Convert CS3 file to CS

A co-worker updated some information in a file I created, he's using CS3. I am using CS and can't upgrade yet because a lot of smaller print shops can't afford to play the upgrade game. Is there a way I, or he can convert the file back to CS?
Tom

CS3 user can export to INX, which can be opened in CS2. CS2 user can then open the INX file, then re-export to INX. Now a CS user can open the INX file. Do not expect a perfect conversion. All users must be fully updated to latest sub-version of their corresponding InDesign CS#.

  • Converting CS3 files to CC.

    Hi,
We have upgraded our office to the Adobe Creative Cloud offerings - specifically, Acrobat, InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator. We previoulsy had CS3. We have several templates that were created in CS3 and have had some difficulty with them after they have been converted to CC.
That said, is there a specific way that we should be converting these files so that there aren't any problems with the files?
I am not a user, so I can't say specically what problem our users are experiencing. One user complained of having to unlock layers in order to make text editable. So far (and we just upgraded yesterday [Sept 2]) we haven't heard of any additional issues but we would like to inform our users if there is a specific or proper way to apply the conversion.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mb

Yes. I posted something on another thread that seems related so I
will try to elaborate. I have files that were created in Dreamweaver
CS3 and recently upgraded to CS5. I have both programs still on my
system, which is Mac OS 10.6.8. When I try to open the CS3 files in
CS5 I cannot do so because the site and html files is not there
visually. This is why I asked about the need to convert. I did find a
way to do something which is hinky but, I will share it since it is
so simple and seems to solve the other problem as well.
I opened the site file in CS3. opened the site management and
exported the site to a new folder. Now the site is visible and I can
open all the files inside CS5. It does create an extra site file, so
I just deleted that one and am left with a usable site in CS5.
I plan to copy off the sites to a new folder and then proceed rather
than overwriting the old ones, just in case.
I hope this helps someone else.

  • Converting CS3 files to CS5

Hi, Just a quick question. We have been using DW CS3 for quite some time and have a fairly basic website using it. We are thinking about going to CS5. Is the converting of the files in the  website project folder (which is offline) going to be a problem? We would like to upgrad to make use of some of the new features and so we can be compatable with outside devlopers we want to have work on the site. Thanks!

  • Images moved/cropped when converting CS3 file to PDF

    Hi,
I was hoping someone would be able to help me out. When converting a flyer I have in CS3 to PDF for distribution two of the four pictures on the page move/crop themselves.
One moves into the upper left hand of where it is supposed to be and only shows 1/4 of the picture, the other gets the right half of it cut off.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

It is when I try to export to PDF, sorry about the confusion.
The pictures are only moved in the PDF file, they continue to look like they are supposed to in the ID file.
I'm not sure if this helps but when I saved it as an INX file the two pictures that behave as they're supposed when exporting to PDF turned into grey boxes and those that became cropped when converting to PDF were still visible. When I then saved that to a PDF the pictures once again cropped and moved themselves, and the grey boxes remained.
I'm not sure if perhaps some of the pictures were placed in the ID document incorrectly, I didn't make the file and was only given it to try and fix the problem. However as you can see I have very little InDesign knowledge.

  • Converting CS3 Files to CS2 - Any Ideas?

    Hi folks,
I know CS3 doesn't save down to CS2. Has anyone found a work-around for this. I have a customer who is still on CS2, she is getting files from another vendor in CS3 and is looking to have them saved as CS2. We have both CS3 and CS2.
    Thx,
    Sandy

    > but you loose new features from ID CS3
Or worse...those features are badly mangled. Additionally, it's very
likely that text will reflow. Not recommended for anything but the most
    basic layouts.

  • CS5 is unable to open CS3 files

I have just installed CS5 on a new machine running windows 7 and I am unable to open files created in CS3.  The message "convering data" appears and hangs there indefinitley.  The document in question is not particulary large and the machine I have should be more than capable.  Is there anything I can do as I have quite a lot of files created in CS3?

Try exporting from CS3 to .inx, then open that in CS5. I'd recommend this even if you weren't having dificulties, by the way. There are quit a few posts about problems converting CS3 files to CS5, some of which don't appear immediately, and .inx reduces the risk of unexpected difficulties.

  • Batch Convert InDesign Files to PDF: Acrobat 9 Pro Opens CS3

A question came up in the InDesign forum about batch converting InDesign files. I've never really needed to do it but I was aware of the batch convert command. The OP reported errors so I tried it myself and while it worked, for some reason Acrobat 9 Pro is opening InDesign CS3 even though I have CS4 and CS5 installed.
I can't seem to find any way to change the default for INDD files. I tried launching ID CS5 first, but Acrobat still launched ID CS3. If I double click an INDD file in Windows Explorer, it opens in CS5 so the operating system has the default correct.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Thanks,
I just found that out, too.
What I'd like to find out is how to fix this.

  • How to convert cs4 to cs3 files?

    Hello,
I got some files that were edited on Illustrator CS4 but now I got Illustrator CS3 and I cannot get access to CS4, is there a plugin to convert those files so they can function normally in CS3? Really need them, they are extremely important. Please help.

Scott has the applications and forums mixed you should be able to open the files in CS 3 if not open them in Acrobat and resave them a pdfs.
Then open them in CS 3. Here is a file created in CS4 and opened in CS 3 you do get a warning that you will some data but that is to e expected as some features IN CS 4 did not exist in CS 3.

  • Options for converting '.vob' files for editing in PP Pro CS3...

    Hi,
I'm using PP Pro CS3 (Windows) and I have a few projects here where the source material are '.vob' files only.
Now because PP Pro doesn't support that file format, I'm looking for options to convert this footage to a format - suitable for editing in PP Pro CS3 - that does NOT explode in file size.
Converting to uncompressed .avi is up 20 times the file size, DV .avi is about 5-10 times the file size.
Here are the options I've tried so far:
    1. importing '.vob' files straight into PP via the Avisynth method
--> works, but PP crashes randomly and it always crashes when rendering more than 2-3 min
--> all my system drivers are up to date
    2. renaming to .mpg or .avi
--> works for some files (only) but you get random red frames in your footage
    3. converting to mpeg-2 via...
    a. Carbon Coder - best quality so far - looks like original
    b. Premiere Elements 4 - no de-interlacing option, takes way too long, quality worse than original
    c. MPEGStreamclip - no options selectable, quality is worse than original
    4. converting to 'DV avi' via...
    Carbon Coder - PE 4 - MPEGStreamclip - VirtualDubMod
--> file size explodes (5-10 times of the original .vob file), quality looks on all kinda the same and NOT better than the mpeg-2 output from Carbon Coder - that's why I don't wanna take the storage hit...
Are there any other methods or ways to convert '.vob' files to a suitable editing format (with a reasonable file size) ?
    Thanx for your help !
    Mike

Take the storage hit and be done with it. Hard drives are cheap these days. Editing takes lots of space. Might as well get used to it.

  • Need someone to convert CS3 .inx file to CS-compatible

    Good afternoon,
Step 1: get someone to convert a CS3 .inx file to one that works in CS2.
Step 2: get someone else to convert that CS2 .inx file to one that can be opened in CS.
Any takers? Say yes and I'll send the file to you via email (since the file attachment feature of this site is currently unavailable).
    Thanks so much.

    Peter,
I originally thought that I come to a dead end when I couldn't open up anything on my own laptop. I am determined so I asked around the office an found someone that has InDesign CS2! With that computer I have had success. Now I see that the image files are not linked so I've asked the designed for the .jpg files. Once I get those, I can put them in the design and move forward.
Thank you so much for your offer to convert the file. I couldn't have done it without you.

  • Need someone with PP CS3 on PC to convert project file

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I have an old project that was cut on Premiere Pro CS2 on a PC.  Now I'm on a Mac with Premiere Pro CS3 and I need to update the project.  So, I need someone that has Premiere Pro CS3 on a PC to open my project file, then save it as a CS3 file and send it to me.  Can anyone help me out?  The project file can be downloaded here: http://www.flowmotionmedia.com/misc/How_You_Doin_07.prproj  It's about 4.7 MB in size.  The CS3 version can be sent to my email: [email protected]
    Thank you very much!

I think we should also thank Stan's dog, who keeps Stan in a good mood mostly....so little credit is given sometimes to those who deserve it !

  • Anyone with CS4 that can convert a file to CS3 for me?

    Hey All,
I'm using cs5.5 to design something for work, however my work uses cs3.... i only just learned that indesign isn't backwards compatible. Any chance anyone with cs4 can export to a cs3 file for me?
    would greatly appreciate it!
    cheers

InDesign is not forwards compatible: any version of it cannot read files created with newer ones.
That's nothing to be amazed about. Most software is not forwards compatible, I only know of one exception, and that is Microsoft Word.
InDesign is backwards compatible all the way to CS (v.3) at least -- the modern vsns of InDesign should still be able to read those files.

  • Can't open CS3 file with my CS2 bc of plug-ins...please advise

I'm supposed to make revisions to a large book, client provided me with CS3 files that had been (supposedly) converted to open in CS2 but when I try to open it says first that I'm missing two plug-ins. When I click to proceed anyway, it lists a whole bunch of plug-in errors and says I can't open it unless I "Upgrade my plug-ins" or get the latest software.
I plan to get CS4...but I can't do it yet. And this job needs to get done asap. Any suggestions?

Are the files you are trying to open .indd or .inx? It sounds like they're still CS3 .indd files, and you need .inx to open in CS2 (plus you need to be fully patched to the last build).
There are going to be issues with any features that were used in CS3 that don't exist in CS2, as well as probable changes to how lines wrap inside text frames due to differences in the text engines. This is not a good round-trip file sharing method unless further editing can all be done in CS2.

  • How do I convert a file into inx with cs5.5?

    Hello,
How do I convert a file in indesign cs5.5 into the interchange format?
    Thanks for your answers

A complete review can be found here, but basically, you can't. CS4 was the last version that was able to generate INX - the format was replaced with IDML. You must export IDML with CS5.5, open that IDML in CS4, then export INX from CS4.
Why do you need INX? If it's for someone with CS3, then that person may not get a useable file, if any features introduced after CS3 were used in the CS5.5 document.
