Convert DTS to AC3

I have a MKV movie that has DTS for audio, however, my TV only supports MP3 or AC3 for audio playback. Does anyone know how to extract the audio from the file, convert it to AC3, then reattach it to the MKV file?
Thank you.

you need to select the audio clip in the window, under the import window, after it is imported and then below that it will change and instead of seeing the video options you will see the audio options. check the box that says downconvertDTS. You should understand that there is now DTS decoder for the mac and if you are going to use these on your PS3/360 you will need to take that demuxed file to a pc to convert to an AC3 or ACC file for use in an .M2TS file. email me if you have further problems. Don't upgrade to Snow leopard it breaks TSmuxer

    Hi Friends,
As Part of the Project Requirement,we need to convert DTS packages to SQL Server 2012 environment.
    Please sugest me best approach.
    Thanks

Best approach is to re-design the packages in SSIS 2012 directy if it is feasible. Because most of the DTS feaures are discontinued and also you will have to clean up all errors that you are going to get after migration.

Otherwise you need to migrate it first to 2008R2 and then 2012 version.

  • Audigy 2, DTS and AC3 passthrough in Windows 7

I have this problem, see in my windows xp partition my dts and ac3 passthrough works flawlessly, but in windows 7 i can't get any kind of recognizable signal from my soundcard to my reciever.
So my short question is, is this something that is an known issue with the drivers so far?
is there som quick fix, or am i just a bit slow
it's a pain to have to boot another OS just to watch a movie... still i know my soundcard is getting a bit old and if there's no easy solution i'm thinking of getting something newer to save me the trouble.
but i think it should not be such a big problem to just shovel along the signal without decoding it!
I have the plain Audigy 2 without any extras or letters at the end.

    never mind, i'm a jackass...
i didn't think to check if there was a creative console with the drivers, i thought the windows 7 nati've control panel overided all that. set the creative control panel to passthrough and voila... it works

  • Dts and ac3 - incompatible format

I have been given some pre-encoded dts and ac3 (5.1) files that were encoded on a windows audio encoding system. DVDSP gives me the "incompatible format" message and cannot import them. I suspect the data itself is fine, and there is problem with the file headers on the windows-created files.
Anyone know of a way I can force the files to be readable to DVDSP from my mac, or any tips I can give the person doing the encoding on making the files compatible with DVDSP?
the extension on the dts files is .dtshd
I am able to open the ac3's with VLC, but not with any apple programs.
    Any help would be appreciated.

One of the reasons for non-importing AC-3 file could be wrong parameters. Have you specified your requirements for AC-3 files (bit-rate, metadata, etc). Can you see the file parameters in VLC?
DTS files used to come in two flavors, before HD-DVD and Blu-Ray were invented: padded dts file (.dts) and compact dts file (.cpt). The new HD formats pushed the envelope pretty high, and extension such as dtshd could signify exactly that: DTS-HD file which is not compatible with SD DVD specs.
DVD SP can import only compact dts files with .cpt extension, and it is very finicky about parameters.
For example earlier version of Minnetonka's DTS DVD encoder, copies of which can be found on the web, have a bug that prevents DVD SP from importing the files produced by it.
You should contact the audio house and ask them about procedures and parameters used to create the problematic files

  • How do you convert audio to ac3 in DVD SP 4 without a.pack

how do you convert audio to ac3 in DVD SP 4 without a.pack
    thanks

NO. If you let DVDSP make your encoding you'll get uncompressed audio (AIFF/PCM) what means most probably high bitrate issues during building/playback and a lot of the space of your disc.

  • Converting .wav to .ac3

    Hi Everyone,
I have a stereo mix and a 5.1 mix from a pro mix session and I'm trying to determine the proper way to convert them to AC3 files.
The stereo mix consists of two separate .wav files. How can I convert them to a single .ac3 without altering anything that was done during the mix? I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but I've searched the forums and the Compressor User Manual, and I can't seem to find the answer.
The only way I could seem to combine the files in compressor was by using the add surround sound button and manually placing the Lt and Rt channels and then dropping the dolby 2.0 profile on it. I wasn't sure though if by using the surround sound area that I was harming the integrity of the mix.
For the 5.1 files, which are all properly tagged (i.e Lf, Ls, C, etc.) in the filenames, do I use the add surround sound to assign the channel? This one seems pretty clearly explained in the manual, except that I'm using .wav files.
Thank you in advance for your help. Sorry if these are dumb questions!
    Michael

The converted file will be saved to the same folder the original file is in. You have to delete the original if you don't want it, there's no setting to have iTunes automatically delete it. Party shuffle isn't a folder it's just a playlist of sorts, it's made up of various songs that are in your library.

  • Convert AAC to AC3?

I have HTPC connected with HDMI to AV Receiver and then it's HDMI out connects to TV.
On my HTPC I have few .mvk and .mp4 files that have AAC 5.1 sound tracks, however I have a problem to sent them over through my AV receiver. Whenever I try to play a movie with AAC 5.1 track, it always breaks up once in a while... plays a bit and then breaks up for few seconds or a minute and then plays again...
Can I convert AAC to AC3? So that my HTPC doesn't have to do it on the fly.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to.  While I hate to give cryptic answers, the best I can suggest is to do some research into using ffmpeg and/or mencoder.  Probably either of these programs could do it, but if you can only go with one then my vote's with ffmpeg.
I can't be any more specific, sadly.  Both programs are a little hardcore for me, and the best I can do without a reference is ripping audio out of a video file (creating an mp3).
You might be able to get away with using Handbrake or something if ffmpeg / mencoder seem daunting.  It's worth a look, in any case.

  • Stereo, AC3 and DTS menu

It's been 7 years or so since I made a DVD with three sorts of audio.
Can anyone give me a quick reminder how it's done?
I need a menu, where the user can select Stereo, AC3 or DTS.
I think default should be stereo, am I correct?
I've tried to search on the internet and Adobe content: I can't find the procedure no more.
    1. So, all audio tracks will be given to me.
    2. I suppose I stack them under the encoded video.
    3. I need to make a menu that enables selection.
    4. Maybe I need a bit budget calculation?
If anyone can give me a quick reference list, then that would be great.

I found out how to do this, but the provided link doesn't tell and "Set Buttons to select" is something I can't find either.
However, a right click on a button helps:
    Audio tracks for DVD:
PCM:   a stereo (interleaved) WAV. Please convert it to Dolby 2.0 192kbps which is almost just as good but less bulky.
    AC3:    An early surround format. (max. 640 kbit/s, mostly 448 kbit/s)
DTS:    The best surround but not always useable for consumers. (max. 1509.75 kbit/s typ. 754.5 kbit/s)
For multiple formats in one timeline:
Stack the encoded audiotracks under the video.
Create some buttons for audio selection purposes. Make sure the user encounters them first.
Right click on the buttons and choose "Specify Link" and then select the right audio track the button should activate.
The button can advance to a second menu where the user can select & play videos. The audio will stay at the same selected track. Make sure the user can navigate back to the audio selection menu.
Please remind DTS and AC3 and DD2 all use up some of the disc space AND some of the 8 kbp/s streaming speed. Clever bit calculations are needed!
I think this might be it.

  • How to Import a DTS Package, while keeping version History in Destination Intact

    Hi Guys,
Not sure if this is the right forum for my question. But I couldn't find any other DTS forum to post my query.
Basically, I have my Production Environment in SQL 2008R2 and it contains few DTS [NOT SSIS!!!!] packages in Management > Legacy. One of those packages, Let's say is, 'PackageA.dts'.
Now for the PackageA, we have versions of last couple of years (almost 11 versions we have for this package), recently in Test Environment (again, SQL 2008R2) we made Lot of changes to that Package and now we want bring that package from Test Env. to Production.
But a) we prefer not to 'open it in Prod then make all individual changes one by one' rather we just need to kind of overwrite/replace our existing Production Package   b) also, we don't want to loose version  history for the Existing PackageA.dts
in Production, so anytime we can rollback when required.
Any Idea if I can? [Please don't post non relevant answer like, convert DTS to SSIS. Sorry if I sound rude, really will appreciate if some one can try helping me.]
    Regards, Avik M.

Hi ArthurZ... "...No deletions, just import, it overrides the prod package" --- Is that the
case? If so, it could have resolved my issue I guess. But that's not happening...
If I don't delete and try to import same named package, I get below error::
    TITLE: Object Explorer
DTS Package 'PackageA' already exists with a different ID in this category. (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server)
    Regards, Avik M.
EDIT: Also, I found another Post : dts-package-already-exists-with-different-id-in-this-category which
says, we need to basically delete the existing Package to import same named package. -- Just opposite of what you mentioned ArthurZ. So what's the conclusion?
I need to understand why the same package that I'm bringing from a different server is not just creating a new version if that package name already exists?
    Any workaround Microsoft?

  • Convert SSIS SQL 2005 to SQL 2008

    Hi!
We have problem converting our SSIS package from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008.
When we try to to open our SSIS package from SQL 2005 in SQL 2008 BIDS we get an error.
We don´t get the old BPC tasks in Visual Studio 2008 just the new ones, can this be the problem? And how can we solve this?

    All,
Usually, User can use MS migration tool for converting DTS to SSIS.
Here are something user needs to do
        1. after convert, user should replace Some custom tasks from 4.2 version to 7M version.
        2. Sometimes MS migration tool makes wrong conversion like connection. We need to fix it manually.
        3. If user is using some specific tasks like Data mining tasks, Migration tool doesn't support
This is the only case that user should create package again.
Except #3 case, all existing packages could convert to SSIS package easily,
I converted a customers 4.2 DTS packages to 7 version recently and converting one package only took 5 minutes -10 minutes including test.
As I know, SAP is preparing HOW TO DO as WebCast very soon.
Please wait a little bit more.
    Thank you
    James
For the answer of this thread, sometimes you need to restart SSIS services at Appserver after you MS patches  or add new tasks ,  I think it is a bug of MS but please try it.

    Hello,

A few years ago I converted a .mov file into an .m2v and an .AC3 using Final Cut Pro. Thanks so much for your time !!!

    Doug,
Am posting the workflow discussed in my last email here in the event others might be interested.
Best workflow I've found to resync and convert the M2V/AC3 elementary stream files to an MOV ProRes422/AIFF file are as follows:
    1) Convert the AC3 audio file to AIFF. (My system is configured for AC3 so I used QT 7 Pro here. My only compaint at this point is that my original AC3 file was DD5.1 and my QT 7 Pro component only supports stereo conversions.)
    2) Simultaneously drop-import the original M2V file along with the converted AIFF file to MPEG Streamclip (requires the QT MPEG-2 Playback component be installed).
    3) Sample playback of the combined data to ensure audio and video are correctly in sync throughout the file.
    4) Use the MPEG Streamclip "Export to QuickTime" File menu option to export the current date to the target Apple ProRes422 video target you want and pass the AIFF PCM audio through to the MOV file container without further processing.
    5) Import the ProRes422/AIFF MOV file to your FCP bin and reset project default codec use to match imported file when asked so you don't have to do any re-rendering for final output.
    6) I re-checked file playback in the Preview window to ensure A/V was still in sync before beginning edits in the project timeline.
All went well for me using this workflow. You may want to give it a try and let us know if it worked as well for you.
    Good luck!

  • Batch AC3 encoding from MP2 or MPA audio files

    Hello all!
I've been using bbDemux and mpgtx Demuxer to demultiplex my MPG-2 files captured with Telestream.
The result is an .m2v file (video stream) and an .mpa (audio stream from bbDemux) or .mp2 (audio stream from mpgtx).
When I put the .mpa or .mp2 files into Compressor 2 and try to convert them to .ac3 with the "Dolby 2.0" preset, I get an .ac3 file that contains no audio.
(I am checking to see whether or not it has audio by dragging it to an audio channel in DVDSP4).
In the past, before Compressor 2 came out, I would convert these .mpa or .mp2 files to .aif with Cleaner before converting to .ac3 with A-Pack.
Does anyone here know why Compressor 2 can't convert the MPEG-audio files to .ac3? It would save me a lot of valuable time to be able to do this!
Thanks in advance for any help or advice --

i set compressor to no compression and complete main. is there something i'm missing.
Try adjusting the Dialog Normalization setting to -31.
Setting it to -31 effectively negates the feature and maintains your previous audio level.
And, yes, volume getting reduced is a normal thing when compressing .ac3 (so long as Dialog Normalization is on).

  • AC3 Encoding with Compressor 2

    Hi all --
Anyone know why Compressor 2 won't convert my MPG audio streams to AC3?
I demuxed an MPG-2 program stream to .m2v and .mpa elementary streams.
The .m2v plays fine -- the .mpa must first be converted to 48kHz AIFF before Compressor will convert it to AC3.
Wish I could skip that intermediate step -- anyone know how?
    Thanks -- Jerry
    Dual 1.25GHz G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Thanks everyone.
    So here's a related question:
I've used MPEG Streamclip in the past --
When I do "Demux to M2V and AIFF" on a clip,
the AIFF comes out fine... but the M2V is a program stream, not elementary!
In other words, it's not a true demux, because the M2V still has an embedded audio stream!
Anyone know a fix for this, or can explain why this happens?
    Thanks again for your support!

  • Videos in real 5.1 (ac3), not aac 5.1

    Hello,
I want to find out, how Apple play video files with Dolby Digital in the iTunes Store. I think, the video format is mp4, but how they put 5.1 in this format to play it with Apple TV? I want my Videos in real 5.1, too.
I have a video converter, it converts mp4 with ac3 5.1, but Apple TV plays the videos asynchronous. And also the converter sets no any stereo track so that iTunes and QuickTime still view the files, but not play.
Have you got any ideas? I despair, please help me

    Hi Sami,
I have partially solved my problem.  I had software installed for a Twelve South BassJump (it improves the sound of your laptop speakers).  When I removed that software, I was able to play videos on Apple's website in Safari.  The company has beta software available from their website that is supposed to be Lion compatible but when I installed that the problem returned.  But even with that software removed I still cannot watch videos on some sites such as Other World Computing.
I just got a new Macbook Pro yesterday with Lion installed from Apple and all video plays fine.  So I believe there must be some compatibilty issues with some plug-in.  I have Perian and Flip4Mac installed.  I removed 3ivx and the problem still remains.  I've read conflicting opinions as to Perian being Lion compatible.
Everything works fine in Firefox at this point so at least I have that to fall back on.
Check your system preference pane under "other" and tell me if you have any of the plug-ins I mentioned installed.  Maybe we will be able to see a common culprit.
    Let's keep each other posted.
    Thanks,
    Chris in Ohio (USA)
