Convert dvds to ipod without spending $

I want to convert DVDs to IPOD format without breaking the bank as I am unemployed.
ANY help would be appreciated.

I am not trying to break the law, I do not see a problem with converting a dvd that I own and viewing that dvd how I want to view it whether it is on a TV or Desktop or Laptop or whatever way I want to view it.

  • Comparison for iPod Users: Free Online Converter & DVD to iPod Converter

Compare two channels of obtaining video sources for iPod: one is using online converter, the other is DVD to iPod Converter. After the general introduction of the two methods, I will analyze their advantages and disadvantages for you to choose according to your need.
Part One: Enjoy YouTube (online videos) on iPod
Instruction: a useful website to convert online video freely: http://www.vixy.net/
For vixy, you can just copy the URL of the online video into the “URL” blank of the vixy, then choose the format you want to convert to. Click “Start”. For a short time, the conversion will be finished. You can click the “Download the converted video” to restore the file.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/vixy.jpg
Advantages: Free online video converter. No software to install. Only a few clicks you can get the converted file after a short while. The most important thing is that online video sources are numerous and original, so you can get the first-hand sources in time through it. Some personal DVs are also shared with you.
Disadvantages: They set limitation of the length and size of the video. The classical movies usually are not on line available. Even if existed, the quality of image and sound is inferiors.
Part Two: Enjoy DVD movies on iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPhone, iPhone (3G), Apple TV
We usually bought classical DVD movies for collection or regular watching later, but DVD cannot be copied directly into iPod for us to appreciate it at anytime and anywhere. On this occasion, we need to convert DVD to the format, video and audio settings (Resolution, Bitrate, Frame Rate, etc) supported by your iPod player.
Instruction: the way to convert DVD to iPod: using Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter http://www.aiseesoft.com/dvd-to-ipod-converter.html
Install and run Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/download/dvd-to-ipod-converter.exe
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/screen.gif
Step 1: Click “Load DVD” button to import your DVD
Step 2: Use “Profile” drop-down list to choose your output format.
Step 3: Click “Settings” for setting your video parameters.
At last click “Start” button to start your conversion.
    More tips:
    1. Merge into One File
If you want to merge the selected contents into one file you can check the "Merge into one file" option. As default the merged file is named after the first selected file (either a title or a chapter)
    2. Movie Effect
You can set the brightness, contrast, saturation of the video and volume of the audio.
    3. Trim Movie
It can help you to capture the segment of your movie.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-trim.jpg
    4. Crop Video
You can remove black edge of your DVD movie and get any playing area of the video by using its "Crop Mode" function. You can also select "Zoom Mode" to extrude your video slightly to adjust to your portable devices so you can get the best video quality.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-crop.jpg
    5. Take Snapshot
It allows you to capture your favorite pictures from your movie.
Advantages: In this way, you can make full use of your DVD: not only in DVD player, but your iPod player. The function of effecting and trimming allows you to clip the segment of the DVD movies complying with your will. You can enjoy more movies taking full advantage of your spare time while relaxing or traveling.
Disadvantages: DVD movies are usually popular, lacking of individualization. You can not share others' DVs.
With these two ways, we can enjoy the pleasure videos bring to us as much as we like. Have fun!

Depending on what update your iPod is, you may need
to dowload YAMB to make sure the videos play well on
your iPod. If you are watching a converted video on
your iPod and it freezes suddenly and this problem
continues, you need to download YAMB and convert the
files already converted with videora iPod converter
with YAMB, this will only take a few minutes.
I hope this helps you out.
Nope. All that a person with that problem should have to do is just update their iPod firmware to 1.1.1 with the newest updater, as that issue has been resolved in the latest firmware.

  • When converting dvds to ipod, how do you combine many video files into one?

Hello everyone! When i convert dvds to Ipod format (on windows using videora) the converter seperetly re-encodes severeal (about 4) .99 Gig files into smaller ipod videos. each file is about 30 minutes long, and i was wondering if all of them could be converted into one 2 hour movie file(star wars III if you're wondering). If there is a free way to do this (not quicktimePro)I would find that extreemly helpful.

As TSN has indicated we have no idea what program you are using, other than you posted in the Acrobat forum. In Acrobat you go to File > Create > Combine (varies with version of Acrobat). You can also open one and then use the pages>Insert to add the others.

  • Still no sound when converting DVD into Ipod

I'm using Videora to convert DVD's into my Ipod. The sound is not coming out but the movie is. I read the article going around about Muxed files, but this is not the case. I have converted this movie about 3 times. Does anyone else have this problem?

Interestingly enough, when I used Videora to convert DVDs, the movie's audio was replaced (twice, two different completely separate movies) with two mens' voices, while they were chatting about the movie. So, I had to download the movies I wanted via LimeWire, and convert those. That's my only suggestion to you...either that, or spend about $40 on CuCuSoft (really great, you won't regret it).

  • Help with converting dvd to ipod

I got Lenogo software and it def. works getting my DVD to my ipod. My question is I am try to download Sex and the City to have all the episodes on my ipod and maybe some other things I own that are episodes. Is there a way to burn them so I can put in episodes by episode rather than one big chunk of video? I actually think I am having a problem with it even converting a big chunk, I really would like the option of pivking what episode I want to watch without having to go through a long piece of video. Any help and suggestions is appreciated, thank you!

I use dvd decrypter though you may find it hard to come by since they were just bought. Then I use a program called Xilisoft (www.xilisoft.com) to convert. I convert to psp format as they share the same format (the psp requires you to have a .thm file as well). IF you want your file to be one movie file instead of individual .vob files, you will want to change you use DVDDecrypter the mode to ifo. Then you will want to right click on the pgc file on the right and go down to file splitting and select none. After that you need to click on stream processing and enable it. Deselct all options except for the top 2 (usually video and audio - you can play around with the audio but I find those 2 to be best. Xilisoft is self explanitory but if you can't figure it out, I suggest you Google it.
Remember, it is only legal to back up your own DVD's.

  • Converting DVDs to iPod format

Someone please help me! I have done this same search on google and on this apple discussion site, but can not understand much of what is said. I am just not a very technical person. Would someone be able to tell me, in layman terms, how to convert a dvd, like pirates of the carribean or skeleton key,to ipod format.
    iPod video-30gb black   Windows XP

    Hello Justin,
Can't really speak for the software personally as I'm not all that interested in video on the move. All I can say is that there have been numerous posts on the iPod forum concerning difficulties with Videora. Whether that's a user problem or a software issue it's hard to say, it seems to have it's advocates and detractors as do most things. Good luck anyway and I'm glad the article was of some help.

  • Convert DVD to iPod For Windows

I have some DVDs that I'd like to play on my iPod, but I haven't been able to convert them. I tried them on my Mac at work using Handbrake, and that didn't work. I really need a Windows free shareware program that will do it, so i can load the DVDs on my home PC where my iTunes library is. Do you know where I can download the free shareware and how to actualy convert the files?
    Thanks so much!

I am so upset about this subject for the first time in my 35 years I actually called the Attorney General's office to complain. I suggest more people do this as well, they told me this is a "very deceptive act" and were going to investigate fully.
What annoys me to no end, is how I never saw anything saying I had to buy videos from itunes. Why should I be buying what I already own? And, if we are having this issue, you know there has to be at least 500,000 other people with the same complaint. Shouldn't have to use illegal software to do something that is legal... I own it, I can do what I want with it, I am not selling it, i am not charging a viewing to see/use nor am I sharing any file with anyone... It is freakin mine!

  • Convert DVDs to Ipod touch

Hi, Can someone give me details of any software I can use to transfer DVDs to my Ipod touch? I just want something really easy and simple to use - I simply want to transfer them straight to the ipd I don't need to edit them or do anything fancy with them. I am using a Mac computer running OSX
    Help is much appreciated.

Do you mean DVDs you've made yourself or commercially released DVDs? If you mean commercially released films or TV shows on DVD I'm afraid that can't be discussed as that involves breaking the encryption on them. Such discussions are against the terms of use. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.":

  • Tip for converting AVI w/divx & DVDs to iPod

As many others here have done, I purchased QuickTime Pro to use as a conversion tool to get various videos into my iPod. As I quickly found out, QuickTime Pro for Windows (QTPW) is pretty lame. It can't handle the Divx video codec used in some AVI files. I got around this by downloading the 3ivx.com codec, but the audio still wouldn't work. This is because QTPW doesn't handle MP3 audio encoded at a variable bitrate - which is quite common in AVI files also. Running the file through two programs is too much of a pain, so I'm giving up on QTPW for now.
I found another program that so far is working quite well. It is called "Cucusoft iPod video converter + DVD to iPod Suite". Its working well on my AVI files with DIVX video. I haven't tried it yet on DVDs. You can find this software for free eval download at: http://www.goripper.com/dvd-to-ipod-guide.html
    Good luck!
      Windows XP

    Download Handbrake from http://handbrake.m0k.org/
This will allow you to rip the video from the DVD to your computer and you can select the settings you want for use either full screen on the computer or optimized for the IPod. Select your DVD and handbrake will read the chapters. Under the Destination section Select your File format as MP4 file, then AVC/H.264 Video / AAC Audio Codec. Either change the location of the file or leave the default setting. For the Video section leave the framerate to Same as source, the encoder needs to be x264 (Baseline profile), the max bitrate that has worked for me was 750 the iPod can do 768 but it doesn't seem to work correctly when selecting 768, I reccoment using 2-pass encoding, it makes the file better quality but it takes twice as long to encode, although it shouldn't be a problem on you Intel iMac, it still goes pretty well on my DP G5. If you want subtitles select the language. For Audio under Language 1 you can use any of the settings that are available from the DVD, I have never turned on Language 2 so not sure what it would do. Sample rate can be as high as 48000 that is the max the program has and the iPod will accpet. The iPod's max bit rate is 160. I got all the info for the iPod's specs from Apple's website. Click on Picture settings change the Size to 320x240 or whatever is close for wide screen video. I usually turn off Keep aspect ratio after I change the size settings. It said on a website I found that there was a bug in Handbrake that it might crash if this was on. I leave the other settings the way they are. Close the window and select Rip. Then just put the movie into iTunes and sync it to your iPod. It will then go into the Movies folder on your iPod. Hope this works for you.

is there any dvd to ipod programs out there will convert the actual final file to play in your ipod that is only one file. asking this question because right now im running videora converter and just wondering if its going to be only one file to add onto the ipod to play the movie

  • Dvds to ipod and software

When trying to convert dvds to ipod I can't find any software thats free that let's you convert it. But thats okay because dvds take up A LOT of freakin memory, downloading movies on limewire seems to work better cuz theyre smaller but they take like ten hours to download. So does anyone know of a software that is free that downloads them faster? (Also I know I mentioned limewire and this might be a little off topic. I already know this, so if your about to post about that and not answer the question then don't post cuz I just don't care in the least bit.)

Well this question really has nothing to do with the ipod but I will try to help anyways. When you download things off limewire the speed that it downloads at depends on your connection to the internet and the person you are downloading it off of's connection to the internet. Also the more people that are sharing that file should help increase the download speed.
You could also look at a program called Morphius. Does basically the same thing but I prefer it over limewire. Your may have better results with it.
And just incase you change your mind about putting the video on the ipod, download a program called videora ipod converter to convert the videos to the format ipod will play. Its free and works fine for me. Just search for it in google.
    Hope that helped some.
