Convert .dwg to .pdf in Acrobat X Standard

I have Acrobat X Standard running on Windows 7.  Can I convert .dwg files to .pdf files without having AutoCAD installed?

With Acrobat X Standard, you cannot convert .dwg to .pdf without installing AutoCAD but with Acrobat X or XI Professional, you can.

  • Can't convert files to pdf using Acrobat 8 Standard or 9 Pro

    I am having a major problem. I have tried converting both Word 2003 and Excel 2003 documents to pdf using Acrobat 8 Standard (I can't recall which version because I uninstalled and installed a trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro) and Acrobat 9 Pro. I have tried to convert directly from the open document and through Acrobat using create from file. In every instance the process starts and then stops after a few moments. When I try the conversion from within Acrobat, I get the following error message: " Pdf conversion failed, please correct the error and retry." When I try the conversion directly from Word or Excel, the conversion starts, stiops suddenly and gives no error message.  I have had Acrobat 8 Standard installed for a couple of years. It worked fine on this computer until the problem started a week ago or so. There have been no software or hardware changes that woudl trigger suspicion.
    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 8 Standard version. I have uninstalled the 8 Standard version and installed the 9 Pro trial version. I have run the repair module on both versions. I'm sure it is something simple but I just can't figure out what the "error" is that I need to "correct". Any suggestions?
    As an aside, I have several Adobe programs (Photoshop CS5, Contribute 3 and Acrobat), all of them expensive. Their business model of offering no unpaid support (even for this type of problem) is one reason I hate Adobe more than Microsoft... but I rant.

    When you uninstalled, you should have used the MS Installer Cleanup utility. It cleans up a lot of the junk left over in the registry. You should have also deleted the Acrobat folder. Then you would reinstall. You did not indicate your OS and it may be that you need to update the AA8 to get it to work correctly. Also, the installs and uninstalls can mess up your registration process if you are not careful. If you uninstall the AA9 trial, you will not be able to reinstall it for use. At this point, I can only suggest you do a repair of your installation and be sure you have all of the updates.

  • How to convert large Word 2007 doc (1200 KB) to PDF with Acrobat 9 Standard

    I'm trying to convert a large Word 2007 document to PDF with Acrobat 9 Standard.  It gets as far as 58% and then says it is unable to complete the conversion.  How can I fix this?

    The file you are working on is really not that large. There probably is a problem on a certain page of the document. Break the document in half. Try to create a pdf file from each half. Hopefully, one half prints properly and one-half does not. Take the half that does not break it in half.  Try to convert each half into a pdf, etc...
    Eventually, you will find which page has a problem. Most likely there is a graphic or a font used on that page that has problem. Most likely a graphic. That graphic will need to be recreated.

    How do you convert an Autocad drawing into a pdf with Acrobat X Standard?

    Something to try -
    Having installed Acrobat Standard you have the Adobe PDF virtual printer installed.
    From your authoring application do a "file-print" and select the Adobe PDF printer rather than the attached local or network printer / plotter.

  • Word 2003 crashes when converting to a PDF in Acrobat 9.3.1

    OS                    :   Windows XP Pro SP3
    Acrobat Version:   Acrobat Pro 9.3.1.
    M.S. Product     :  Word 2003
    Not every file will crash Word 2003 when converting to a PDF using Acrobat Pro 9.3.1 but this particular file and some others will produce the following error:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
    %%[Page: 1]%%
    %%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: )  '$ $ $ &$   ]%%
    %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
    %%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
    The co-worker was receiving the same error in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 before we updated her to AAP 9.1.3.
    I have read some other threads similar to mine but none of them answer the question well enough to try anything listed there.  My co-worker can email me the Word file and I can print the file to my Adobe PDF printer just fine.  I have Acrobat Pro 7.0.
    Can anyone give me help on the cause and or solution to this problem????

    Hi,
    - syntaxerror indicates the file contains unintelligible PostScript code.

  • Cannot convert webpages to pdf using Acrobat X Pro with IE9 and Windows 7, worked fine until a few m

    Cannot convert webpages to pdf using Acrobat X Pro with IE9 and Windows 7, worked fine until a few months and updates ago

    I tried your suggestion, not knowing that the direct pdf printer would also "save as" PDF, but when I try your suggestion and use the Adobe PDF printer that is a direct creation of the PDF from the browser (IE9), instead of the "black out" areas I get when I use the "Convert to" button, I get missing blocks of the resulting PDF, and only get the first 1/4 to 1/3 of the webpage.
    Just to clarify, when I said I print the webpage and then scan, that is a work around I have to do if I need a scanned version of the way a webpage appears on a particular date and time, instead of the one step process I used to be able to do when Adobe Acrobat would actually convert the webpage to a pdf without blackout areas or, if I try your suggestion, blank spots with a partial webpage. But the idea was one I had not thought of and I appreciated the thought.
    Yes, Acrobat was updated, and is updated, and was working fine until a few months ago, Win 7 and Office 32 bit versions, Office 2010

  • Color changes when creating PDF in Acrobat X Standard

    I'm printing to PDF from Word 2010 by using Acrobat X Standard.  Here are the two issues:
    I have overlaid two text boxes (different colors) on top of each other.  The overall image should be blue on top and bottom with tan in the middle.  When I print to PDF in Word, the PDF is perfect; however, when I print to the printer, the blue on the bottom changes to purple, while the blue on top is correct.  Again, this is the same blue text box, so I don't know why the color changes.
    Also, the tan is a darker shade than what the PDF shows.
    Is this a printer issue or PDF settings issue?
    I'm new to using Acrobat, so any step-by-step help is very much appreciated!
    Thank you.

    Create Adobe PDF is a (by default) a LOSSLESS operation where Acrobat processes the Word graphics data directly into PDF.   Printing is a LOSSY operation that first has Word convert Word->”printer spool”, then the printer driver (Adobe PDF) converts that “printer spool” into Postscript, and then Distiller converts the Postscript into PDF.   As you might imagine, you get MUCH higher quality and fidelity results from the former.
    Have you verified that you are using the same color management settings in the printer from both Word and Acrobat?  Is the Konica configured for Postscript, PCL, other?  There are SO MANY possible options that could be impacting your configuration…

  • Can't find Save As Optimized PDF in Acrobat X Standard.

    I just bought and installed Acrobat X Standard, but cannot find the Save As > Optimized PDF option.  I have seen and used this option before in Acrobat X Pro, and it was one of the reasons I bought Acrobat for myself.  Adobe's own website says that this option is available in Acrobat X Standard.  My File > Save As menu has options to save as PDF, Reduced Size PDF, Certified PDF, Reader Extended PDF, and the other format options but no "Optimized PDF" option.
    Does anyone know what might be going on here?  I've tried to look through Acrobat's Preferences to see if I missed something that would enable this option, but I haven't seen anything.  Can this be fixed?  I didn't fork over a bunch of money to have one of the few options I wanted not be available.  If not, is this grounds enough for me to get a refund?  I'd appreciate any help I can get.

    Any idea what can I can expect if I try to explain this to Adobe Customer Service?  I bought the software as a download from Amazon, which will not refund software downloads I just learned.  I'd say that since Adobe's website provides incorrect information, and I based my purchase  off of that incorrect information, that they should do something for me, then fix their website so it doesn't happen again.
    I see that my only two options to talk to customer service are via phone or online chat.   I have no idea how helpful or unhelpful Adobe customer service is (i.e. do they use foreign hard-to-understand call centers or stock-answer chats).  Does it seem like I'd have any chance in the world of communicating this fairly complicated situation and getting an actual resolution from someone?  Is there any email address somewhere I can contact?  That way I could copy and paste the link to the incorrect page on Adobe's website.  If Adobe can't provide me with a refund of some sort, maybe they could just upgrade me to Acrobat Pro or something.  If this is going to be nothing but a many-hour nightmare to try to deal with, though, I'll just eat the money I've spent.
    As a last ditch effort, is it possible to upgrade from my existing Acrobat Standard to Acrobat Pro without having to buy a whole new copy of Acrobat Pro?
    Geez, what a mess.  Thanks for your help.

  • How to convert DWG to PDF 8.5x11 page size? using VueBean.convert()

    I am able to convert dwg files to pdf files. The dwg can be very large in size (example: 32" x 42"), but I need the pdf output to fit an 8.5" x 11" page size. I am using the VueBean object and the VueServlet to perform the conversion. I am using the  VectorConvertOptions to set the conversion options but no matter which options I try I can't get the output to fit 8.5" x 11" page size. I have tried varying the scale factor but that doesn't seem to affect the ouput at all. Can anyone tell me which options will get the pdf output to fit 8.5" x 11" page size? Maybe its a matter of scaling but I can't seem to figure it out. Please help.
       VectorConvertOptions opts = new VectorConvertOptions();
                opts.setStepsPerInch(1);
                PAN_CtlFileInfo fi = vueBean.getFileInfo();
                PAN_CtlRange ps = vueBean.getPageSizeEx();
                if (fi.getType() == PAN_CtlFileInfo.PAN_DocumentFile) {
                ps = fi.getPageSize();
                opts.setInputRange(ps);
                opts.setArea(ConvertOptions2D.AREA_EXTENTS);
                opts.setPageSize(1);
                opts.setScaleType(ConvertOptions2D.TYPE_SCALE);
                opts.setScaleFactor(200);
                opts.setWidth(Math.abs(ps.width()));
                opts.setHeight(Math.abs(ps.height()));
                opts.setUnits(Constants.UNITS_FILE);
                opts.setPages(ConvertOptions2D.AUTO);
                opts.setFromPage(1);
                opts.setToPage(fi.getPagesNumber());
                opts.setFormat("PCVC_PDF");
                opts.setModes(PAN.CTLMODE_MONOCHROME);
                opts.setSubFormatID(0);
                opts.setFileName(fi.getDocName().toLowerCase().replace(".dwg",".pdf"));
                vueBean.convert(opts);

    This is not possible using the convert option. This is a product limitation. Another possibility would be to use the print options instead of the convert option.

  • Bulk convert text to PDF with Acrobat

    Hi. When I convert a text file to PDF with Acrobat X Pro the character spacing in the resulting file is incorrect.  The columns of numbers which do correctly line up in the text file, do not line up correctly in the PDF file.  I adjust the settings for the conversion in the CREATE PDF FROM WEB PAGE box and I choose a fixed-width font.   If I use Adobe PDF Converter (the printer driver) the result is perfect.  If I open the text file with Microsoft Word and then convert it to PDF with PDFMaker, it is also perfect. I want to use Acrobat so that I can bulk convert my 300 text files to PDF.   Can you please help as I have tried everything?  Thank you.  Paul Pontikis (Deakin University)

    Thank you for responding LoriAUC.  I have 300 (*.txt) files that I only ever open with Notepad. I don't every open them in a web browser.  I want to bulk convert them to PDF.  The orientation of the resulting PDFs must be landscape.  It appears that the only way to select LANDSCAPE in Acrobat is to adjust the settings in the CREATE PDF FROM WEB PAGE box.  It seems that Acrobat uses its HTML Conversion Engine to convert text files to PDF.  When I do this and then bulk convert them using Bulk Convert Files to PDF, the orientation is correct, that is, landscape instead of the default portrait setting, however the character spacing is imprecise and the columns of data are wavy.

  • Compare PDFs in Acrobat 7 Standard?

    Can anyone help, I usually use a Mac and using Acrobat Professional. I can compare different versions of a PDF easily using the Advanced Compare Documents tool. Does anyone know if there's a way of doing this effectively in Acrobat 7 Standard and where the options would be on the PC version.
    Many thanks

    This happens on Acrobat 8 Pro on Windows XP too - the text only compare in side by side mode correctly traps the redline differences but highlights non-changed text in a very strange fashion.
    It appears to be a bug to me as when you open the comments list and click on the highlight it appears as with a type of 'Indeterminate' and the annotation 'Matching text on page 1 of other document'. When I click on the comment I get an Acrobat error dialog box with the text:
    'There was an error processing an annotation or link. There was a problem reading this document (14).'
    And I can't seem to delete the comments (presumably as Acrobat is failing to read the comments).
    Very irritating. Worse, Acrobat 9 (Mac) has no way to preconfigure the compare so a 2.3MB compare in v8 is now 13+MB in v9 and every table edge (in a 150pp doc) is highlighted as different. Otherwise the v9 compare appears very good for on screen in v9 except it doesn't degrade very well to v8 and there is no side-by-side redline mode I can see.
    Will be running v8 for a while yet.

  • How to convert a form created in acrobat xi standard to a flat pdf

    I have created forms that i wish to fill out myself and e-mail to clients as a flat pdf without the option to edit. From what i have read it looks like i have to add some java codes attached to a "complete or submit" button.  Any help in finding this code would be greatly appreciated.

    If you want the form "flattened", that is all form fields converted to PDF context, you need to use some JavaScript to flatten the form fields. This will remove all form functionality. It will not prevent editing by Acrobat's text touchup or object tools.
    The "submit" button is used by other users to sent the PDF form data to a central collection site or email address where the sender or provider of the form can collect the submitted data.
    You could also use a digital certificate to sign the form and lock the fields. The signature will also verify that no changes have been made to the PDF since it was signed and one could also see what was changed.
