Convert final 30fps to 24fps

i've filmed a project in 29.97fps and exported as current.  But for a film festival wants it in 24fps. I tested that as a test in Apple Pro Res and of course the opening tiles repeat and inspector saw it in 23.97fps.  is there a format to keep the frame rate at 24 film style look (23.97) with the recored 29.97?  Especially burning it onto blu ray (in toast)

>is there a format to keep the frame rate at 24 film style look (23.97) with the recored 29.97?
What?  Are you asking how to get the 24fps look, at 29.97 fps? or how to convert 29.97 final to 23.98 to fulfill the film festival requirements?
I just had this same issue...indy doc that has been shooting over 8 years, started as SD 29.97, but eventually had some HD at 29.97...all needed to be HD, so I did so, and had a 29.97 master. Now required to deliver 23.98.  I did the smart thing and took it to a post facility that has a Terranex and had them convert it.  $100/hour, so $300. And it looks great.  I tried so many other software methods and all had odd recurring frames, or jumps due to frame removals, and didn't look smooth.

  • How do you convert DV 30fps to 24fps?

I am trying to capture DV 30FPS NTSC. I can't seem to capture it to another preset of DV Pal or any other preset. I want to know if its possible to convert my footage to 24FPS or 25FPS. Would I use the media manager after capture or is there something I can do during capture?

Capture the footage as shot - you can't convert to PAL on capture.
You can do pretty good standards conversion (post capture) in Compressor, details here:
    http://www.macworld.com/2006/02/secrets/marchcreate/index.php?pf=1
I've tested this method and the results are pretty good. Or you could buy the Nattress plugins, which are excellent value.
Don't convert till you're finished your edit, then just convert the master or final sequence.
Remember also that the vast majority of PAL VCRs and DVD players can play NTSC, as can most newish PAL TVs, so you may not strictly need to convert at all.

  • Converting 30fps to 24fps

    Hello All,
I recently shot a project for work that I would like to have that "film" look. I shot it at 30fps using a Canon XL1 and would like to convert the footage to 24fps. Is there a filter, effect, or setting in FCP to do this. I have shot in 24fps before using a Panasonic DVX100-A but, since I didn't have that camera at my disposal how can I accomplish this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • FCPX Mixed Frame Rates? 30fps AND 24fps in same project?

Just got done doing a multicam shoot for a large event where I had multiple people helping me out. We all shot at 1080p on a variety of Canon DSLR cameras and a Go Pro and a MiniDV Consumer Cam. I thought everyone got the memo to shoot at 30fps, and most everyone did, however one of my Canon cameras shot at 24fps. I know I've heard in the past mixing frame rates can cause issue in other programs, and I know FCPX can handle multiple frame rates, but what sort of trouble am I in for if I want to use footage from cameras using 30fps and a camera using 24fps in the same final product? Is the 24fps stuff going to choppy or weird if I use it in a 30fps sequence/project? My final deliverable at this point can be 30fps or 24fps, it is not stated and I want to make sure evrything looks good so what should I set my project settings for? Any ideas?

Ah - no - conforming simply resets the frame rate information. You should re-conform it back to 29.97...
Here's what I think you'll need to do. If the majority of your material is at 23.98, make your main sequence that. Cut everything at that 23.98 - you'll have to render any 29.97 material then, but when you've locked picture, look at the sections with 29.97 stuff and if it looks okay, just skip to making the DVD. If it doesn't, you'll have to insert a pulldown by exporting your sequence then bringing the quicktime back in, adding a pulldown with Shake ($500) or Nattress frame rate converter ($99) - OR try this - edit it to tape and a pulldown will be inserted, then recapture.
Once you have a 29.97 version of your clip, cut it into a 29.97 sequence and re-cut in the 29.97 material (now you won't need to render). Then export for your DVD.
Now - after all this, are you sure that your 30fps material is NOT 29.97 with a pulldown? Did you check this yet?

  • Change 30fps to 24fps

I have a Canon EOS 60D DSLR camera and accidently shot my video in 30fps instead of 24fps. Is there any possible way I can convert the clips to 24fps on Final Cut Pro X or some over clip converter site/download that is free with no charge? Anything will help! If I can do it on FCPX, how do I do it? Thanks!

  • Convert 1080i 30fps to 540p 60fps - field specific

The conversion I want to do sounds (to me anyway) like it ought to be very simple (at least, from the perspective of the logic involved) but I can find no way to do it.
I have 1080i source at 30fps.   That translates to one interlaced field every 1/60 second.   Hence, it should be possible to extract - without any computation - a 1920x540 progressive video (I realize that's anamorphic and that the final step would be to horizontally re-scale, but lets ignore that for now.)
So - I want to convert 1080i 30fps to 540p at 60fps - and I don't want the conversion process to use any math or algorithm to "calculate" what each pixel row should look like - I just want the even fields from the source to become the even frames on the output file, and likewise the odd fields become the odd frames.   (Or vice versa, whichver makes chronlogical sense).
It doesn't appear there are settings to do that with Apple Compressor - have I missed something?
If Compressor can't do it, can anyone recommend a 3rd party app to do it?

When converting to progressive you are replacing the fields with one frame. To my knowledge you do not get to choose the field. Programs will most likely chose the upper field for 1080i footage and since it is creating the whole frame the end result will be based on the source dimensions to begin with. The point being that throwing away one field will not 1/2 your vertical size but this could be done with a custom dimension output.
I would recommend using Compressor for your frame rate conversion no matter where you are in the process of deinterlacing or size.
I would try doing some 1minute test files that convert the frame rate, size, interlacing or all of these at once to see if you get the desired results.

  • Converting Final Draft file to PDF

Ok I've been converting Final Draft documents into PDF format for years, now all of a sudden Adobe is telling me I can't perform this operation for some reason. I've been using the same laptop for 2 years using Windows 7, and was able to convert until now. Can someone tell me why this is now a problem for adobe? Any suggestions on how to convert without having to buy new software? Is there an update that needs to be downloaded that I can't find in this very moment? Please advise because this is going to cause me serious heartache.

What is the EXACT and complete message you get? And what version of Acrobat? It's hard to say anything about updates or compatibility without that...

  • TA25521 After editing a video clip that was shot in 60fps how do I convert that clip to 24fps for publishing

After editing a video clip in FCX that was shot in 60fps how do I convert that clip to 24fps for publishing?

There is only a limited amount of Compressor instruction available unless you purchase a subscription to something like Lynda.com or a tutorial from Ripple or Larry Jordan.
My advice to everyone who is interested in learning about Compressor is to read the first two chapters of the user manual – on basics and workflows. Those should provide enough of an understanding to cover the majority of things users need Compressor to accomplish. Of course there is plenty more for those who want to explore.
Here is a short write-up from Ken Stone on changing frame rates.
    Good luck.

  • Boris continuum de-interlacer question dv 30fps to 24fps film conversion?

Just wondering what people think about converting NTSC interlaced dv video to film video at 24fps with a deinterlacer like the one that comes with boris continuum that does a simulation pulldown. Think I should just use a good deinterlacer or do you think I should convert my video to 24fps?
If everyone thinks I should do the pull down then I plan to use debug frameserver to encore and I will make a progressive dvd, does this sould like a good option.

And it will soon be getting even better… I am planning some updates for my dv2film functions: Better and faster deinterlacing, more accurate and faster motion compensation, multiprocessor optimization, so stay tuned!

  • Conforming 30fps to 24fps

    Hi,
I know FCP have tools like Cinema Tools to easily conforming 30fps to 24fps.  Can Adobe Premiere do the same???  Also if you conform a file to 24fps from 30fps will there be a lost of quality to the footage?

re 30 to 24. Speed up your audio the appropriate amount. Play it on set while recording at  29.97.
When you retime the video to 24 fps, life is good.
fwiw - The people in front of the camera must have talent as actors for this to work.

  • IPhone 4S / FCP X: Converting 30fps to 24fps?

I found out after I was done shooting and editing my video that there's an app that lets you shoot 24fps with your iPhone.
I have a project that is finished in FCP X, shot with an iPhone 4S.  Now I just want it to be 24fps (23.98 or whatever) instead of 30fps.
Is it too late?  "Frame rate" in Project Properties only showed 30fps in the pulldown list.  Will FCP do this conversion for me or do I need to use another program?  Compressor?  I can't find anything else in FCP X that will let me make that adjustment.  I did this with FC Express in the past but I forget how and everything looks different in X anyways.
    Thanks.

Start a new project and set your frame rate to 24p
Now import your iPhone clip (which should be 30P) and add it to your primary storyline.
Highlight the clip and click on the retiming option icon.
    Choose Conform Speed
The clip on the timeline will conform to 24P, however as Tom mentioned the clip will slow down a tad and audio pitch will be adjusted by FCP X.
    Hope that helps
    Tony

  • Please convert Final Cut 6 tutorials to XML version 3.

I have Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 running on my laptop and in a moment of madness I've just bought the Final Cut Pro 6 Apple Pro training series which includes 14 .fcp project files which obviously I can't open!
Is anybody out there kind enough to open some (or all) of these files in FCP 6 and save them as XML interchange version 3 files for me. They are quite small, about 300 KB each, the whole folder is 6.9MB so they should be emailable.
    Thanks
    Tom

Will I be able to open final cut pro 6.0 files in fcp 7.0
Yes. FCP will just ask "These are older projects, do you want me to update them?" Click yes.
if not is there a way if I were to get it can I convert them to fcp 7 file without losing the video etc.
There will be no quality loss...the quality of the media does not change when you change the application version.

  • How can I convert 720p 30fps AVI to h.264?

Appreciate any guidance on this matter.
I have almost stopped using my DV Cam once I purchased the Canon Powershot TX1 which records video in 720p 30fps in AVI container. For me to import these clips to my iTunes library so that I can view them thru Front Row, Apple TV and download into my iPhone and iPod Touch, I need to convert them to h.264 format.
What is the best way to do that? And the software should support batch conversion of multiple clips. Is Quicktime Pro the right choice for this?
    Thanks,
    New2AppleTV

    Hi Eric,
I have used Handbrake to rip my DVDs and then put them on my Mac Mini as a media server for the Apple TV. I love that tool. However, it doesn't work on .avi files from my camera (at least that is my understanding and I maybe wrong). I have used the trial version of VisualHub, but as you said the full version is no longer available. However, now that I can do my editing and retaining the 720p format using iMovie'08, I don't need any other tool. I am looking forward to iMovie'09 for chapter marking within the same tool. The current workaround of sharing it with Garageband for chapter marking is too cumbersome a process.

  • Any DVD to Ipod prog. converts final file that is only one

is there any dvd to ipod programs out there will convert the actual final file to play in your ipod that is only one file. asking this question because right now im running videora converter and just wondering if its going to be only one file to add onto the ipod to play the movie

I checked out your link and thought it was going to answer my question but it still hasn't. I have downloaded software to convert dvd to ipod (cucsoft). I have been successful in conveting and moving to itunes but it won't update to my ipod. I tried right clicking on the video clip and converting to ipod, but it gives me the message that it is already converted, but nothing shows up in my ipod. I'm totally lost and confused. It sounded to simple and has become totally complicated. Any help would be totally appreicated.

  • Converting Final Cut to Quicktime

What's the best way to convert a Final Cut project to a Quicktime movie. I want to use H.264. The current Final Cut project file size is about 3 GB. I want to create a quicktime that is 640X360 and is about 190 to 200 mgb. The conversion in Final Cut Pro HD is too trial and error. How does apple convert TV shows like Lost to Quicktime movies? What's the process?

Good questions. How does Apple convert a TV show to QuickTime .m4v format?
Answer: There is no "standard" way to do it. Each video is different and could be best served by studying the individual file. Some, with lots of motion may require extra work. Talking "head" movies may only require tweaking some settings.
    First rule:
Anyone that uses "canned presets" doesn't care about either the quality or the file size of the final distributed format.
    Second rule:
They are "your" files and you can do them any way you like!
    Third rule:
Update until your budget breaks! If this means getting a faster machine or a newer OS, as the Nike ad says; "Just do it!"
I suggest a simple series of "test" files. Export (to various settings) a one minute file. You'll end up with a few dozen example files that you can refer to (name them according to the settings used).
Save these files and use the QuickTime Get Info window to compare codecs, frame and data rates, keyframes and other settings. You only need to do this on a few different video files. Separate "fast action" from "talking heads" and store them for future reference.
You'll end up with a series of small files that you can then use to compare various settings.
You can do this! And, it's important! It's your "stuff".
