Convert Flare 10 project to Robohelp 11

I need to convert (or import?) a help project that was created in Flare. I'm currently using Flare 10 and I would like to switch back to Robohelp. I downloaded the trial version of Robohelp 11, but don't have a clue how to import my files. Thank you!

Hi, kgabby7
I have a free Flare to RoboHelp Project Converter which is described on my website. The description is somewhat out of date on the page.  Email me at the address in my Forum Profile and I will send you the free converter via email attachment.

  • WinHelp Project in RoboHelp for Word v7.0

I inherited a WinHelp 4 RoboHelp project and have worked with
it successfully for a few years, converting it to various versions
of RoboHelp. I was able to open it recently in RoboHelp for Word
v7.0, after getting MS Office 2007 installed on my machine, but it
won't save any edits I try to make to the Word docs. My choices to
Save are: "Yes", "Yes to All", "No", and "Cancel". The only way to
get the Word doc to close is to choose "No", and then my changes
    are not being saved.
When I opened the WinHelp 4 project in RoboHelp for Word
v7.0, after getting MS Office 2007, there was no prompt to convert
it to Word 2007, and the Word side displays "Compatibility Mode" at
the top. (When I opened a WebHelp project in RoboHelp for HTML
v7.0, after getting MS Office 2007, I was prompted to convert the
    project).
Also, when I click "Generate Primary Layout", nothing
happens. No error message, no popups, nothing.
I read on another page where someone suggested re-instaling
RoboHelp v7.0 for someone who had these issues with a project that
had been opened before receiving MS Office 2007, but I did not open
mine until after getting this. If anyone else is having these
issues, I would appreciate your thoughts.

I think the point in the thread you read was that RH has to
be installed after Word. It's not about the opening of the project.

  • Converting RoboHelp7 FlashHelp project to RoboHelp8

Hi!  Was looking for some best practices regarding converting existing help projects (FlashHelp) from RoboHelp 7 to RoboHelp 8. What you need to copy down so that you can verify and if necessary, recreate in RH8. Also, what major differences in just basic functions should I be aware of?
Reason I'm asking is because I've been doing some testing and have noticed that my some of my applied styles are not coming across correctly. Normal style is being changed from Verdana 9pt to Times Roman 12pt.  Numbered lists have 12pt Times Roman numbers and rest of paragraph is Verdana 9pt.
In the attached css file, I'm seeing Kadov styles, which is strange because this project was created in RH7.
In addition, the ftp information that I had set up in the Primary Source Layout did not get copied over into RH8. Is that common because now I have to make sure that I've got it all copied down (which I do) but it would have been nice if it just imported during the conversion.
Another thing that I noted in the Primary Source Layout window after I converted my project was the "enable substring search" check box. Selecting this check box seems to really slow down the generation of my project when it gets to the Full Text Search process.
So basically, I'm asking for a handy-dandy checklist of what to check before you convert and things to review after the conversion.

As you realise, RH7 CSS files should not have kadov so my guess is somewhere along the line, a backup from an earlier version got applied and missed the upgrade. Doesn't really matter how, we are where we are.
First make a backup of the CSS that you posted and then strip out all the kadov definitions so that you can see the definitions that apply. That should not affect the output as it is now but at least you will be able to read the CSS.
Where normal is showing as TNR, look at the HTML. Is the <P> tag applied?
The list problem is because no font is set for the OL tag.
You also have two definitions of the P tag, maybe others with a conflict?
Your CSS needs a tidy up as the first step. Try Top Style, there is a free version and it is widely regarded as THE editor for CSS files.
I don't think we lost our publish details but we don't use them with FTP.
I am not surprised the sub-string search takes longer. It has more work to do would be my guess. Only Adobe can confirm that. I haven't seen anyone else comment on the additional time.
Handy dandy list? Sorry it doesn't work that way. Every project and author will be different so what might affect one will be OK for another. It's trial and error.

  • Combining Projects in RoboHelp v5

I have two projects in RoboHelp 5 that I need to combine, in order to move them into Flare as one project. Can that be done in RH5?
The help only refers to merging projects when compiling and that's not what I need. I actually need to combine the source files into one project and hopefully keep indexes, etc. intact.
Can someone point me in the right direction for information or confirm whether this can actually be accomplished?

    Hi again
When you import, note that you are able to import more than a single file at a time.
And sure, there is usually always more than a single way to do anything. What I offered is the "RoboHelp" way. If you are willing to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, you could manipulate things by copying files and editing some other files. For example, create an HTML Help (CHM) project in RoboHelp. Then compile it so you get an updated .HHP file. This is the master control file used by the Microsoft HTML Help compiler. You could then close the RoboHelp application and make some edits to the HHP file to include the additional topics. Once you are fairly certain you have them all combined, you create a RoboHelp project by pointing at the HHP file. You could then port that to Flare.

  • Convert RH8 HTML Project to RH8 Word Project

    Hello,
I am new to this organization and taking over an existing RoboHelp 8 HTML online FlashHelp project. My supervisor has requested that I find out how to get our RH8 HTML project into a RH8 Word project, and after reading this forum and others, this sounds like it is not the way to go. The intent of converting to Word is to allow multiple authors (who are not HTML savvy) to create or update help topics. So, my questions are:
Is this the right path to take?
If converting from RH8 HTML to RH8 Word is not the correct path, what suggestions do you have for allowing multiple authors to create or edit content outside of RH8 (and then of course fold into the HTML online Help project)?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi there
In addition to what Jeff offered, there really isn't any clean manner to convert a project from RoboHelp HTML to RoboHelp for Word.
Now if you have a need to allow users to edit content in Word, you have the option in RoboHelp 8 of "Linking" Word documents to the project. When you do this you have icons in RoboHelp that alert you to changes in the linked Word content. You then simply update to pull the new content into RoboHelp.
Keep in mind that in order for this to be remotely successful, you will need to ensure everyone uses Word consistently. RoboHelp really works with Word content best if it has been consistently styled with Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3. Sometimes folks just swipe across text and adjust the font color and size to be larger instead of applying consistent styles. When that happens things become a big mess when it comes into RoboHelp.
Personally I would view converting projects from RoboHelp HTML to RoboHelp for Word to be a bad move. I'd suggest sticking with RoboHelp HTML and utilizing the linking feature to your advantage.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Problems converting context sensitive help to Robohelp 6

I’m new to Robohelp and have inherited about 60 WinHelp
projects which were created several years ago by a previous tech
writer, using Blue Sky Robohelp Classic 2000.
I am having a problem with converting these projects to
Robohelp 6. The same three compile errors are coming up in every
project I convert to Robohelp 6. Yet, when these same projects are
compiled in Robohelp Classic 2000 they are error free.
These are the basic steps I follow:
    1. Open Robohelp 6.0 for Word.
    2. Open the .hpj
    3. Choose the “Generate Primary Layout” icon to
    compile the project.
The Primary Layout for these projects is WinHelp3.
At completion, the compiler says the WinHelp 3 project has
been built successfully, although the error log contains three
    errors.
When viewed, the help files appear as normal. However, the
projects are used for context-sensitive help which is activated by
the user pressing F1 or Shift + F1.
When I test the help files with our software, I receive the
following WinHelp error message: The topic does not exist. Contact
your vendor for an updated help file (129).
The following three compile errors come up in every project:
    Error 1230: line...21 of MENU0000.hpj : File '!HPJ-OPT.TXT'
    not found.
    Error 1230: line...52 of MENU0000.hpj : File '!HPJ-CFG.TXT'
    not found.
    Error 2050: line...42 of MENU0000.hpj : Invalid #include
    syntax.
In larger projects, the Invalid #include syntax error appears
many times, in smaller projects just once.
The two .TXT files that are not found during the compile are
present in the project folder for each project, but RoboHelp seems
to think they are not there.
As for the #include statement, I can only find one #include
statement in the project. It’s in the Project > Startup
Macros area and it calls HPJ-CFG.TXT. The syntax is correct. I have
tried deleting this startup macro and recompiling. This removes the
“HPJ-OPT.TXT' not found” error but still leaves the
other two errors. I cannot find the reference to HPJ-OPT.TXT
anywhere in the project , so I haven't been able to delete it and
see what effect this would have.
I am running Robohelp for Word, version 6.0 with Word 2002
(10.6826.6825) SP3 on Windows XP Pro operating system.

Hi Carenb and welcome to the RH community. Although you don't
specifically say it does sound like you are continuing to output
winhelp. Can I ask why? It would be wise to think about converting
to another format (e.g. HTML Help or WebHelp) in order to keep up
with recent Microsoft announcements. Anyway, RH Classic 2000 was a
very different product than RHX6. For a start it uses a completely
different set of project files (.HPJ are now .XPJ) which I think
explains the error message you are getting. If you want to continue
using winhelp I suspect you may have to rebuild your map files. If
you migrate to another help format you can concert your existing
project by creating a new project in RoboHelp HTML and importing
your .HLP file or word documents.

  • Cannot open Robohelp 8 project in Robohelp 9

I cannot open my old Robohelp 8 projects from Robohelp 9. When I open it, it shows me a prompt to make a backup and upgrade the project. Then I click Upgrade, it returns an error:
"open project was cancelled or the application was unable tp load the database for   <path to my project>"
Creating or opening new projects in the 9 format works fine.
The old Robohelp project was created on a different PC. I just copied the whole folder to a new PC with Robohelp 9. The oroject is not corrupted  I can still open it on my old PC with RH8.
Any suggestions how to fix that?
    Thanks

There isn't a Save As option but usually it is as simple as copying the project from one location to another.
No it doesn't write an absolute path as if it did that, none of us could move projects.
Do you have a second machine (not with SSD) that you can install RoboHelp 9 on in trial mode? With that you could perhaps put the project on an external hard disk and prove it works there as it does for me?
Are you copying just the project out of your profile? So C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\My RoboHelp Projects\Project1 becomes D:\Project1. If not, try that.
After moving, getting the error and trashing the CPD, do you get the error again if you reopen after that?

  • Unable to Open Project with RoboHelp 9

I've been working on a project using RoboHelp 9. Last night when I attempted to save RoboHelp froze. Looking at the CPU usage in task manager I saw it was still hovering between 45 and 50% CPU usage. Seeing as it was the end of the day anyway, I decided to leave the program running overnight in the hopes that it would eventually unfreeze.
When I came in this morning it was in the same frozen state, still using between 45 and 50% of the CPU. So I used end task to stop the program from running and tried to re-open the project. The project tried to open but froze during loading.
After consulting the forums I made a back-up of my project directory and deleted the CPD file. The project hung again on open (though it created a new CPD file was slightly smaller than the original CPD file).
I restored from backup and tried to open from the XPJ file but had no luck.
Restoring from backup again, I deleted the CPD and XPJ files and tried to open the HHP file with similar results.
Other projects are working fine so I created a new project and attempted to import the HTML file (a file which opens fine in Firefox) and it also causes the project to hang.
    A bit of additional info:
I'm running the project on a local drive on Windows 7 32 bit edition.
Does anyone have any ideas for next steps I should try? I really don't want to have to restart the project from scratch.

    Hello Peter.
    Thanks for the speedy reply.
I have rebooted my system to no effect. I also am able to work on sample projects (adding and removing content, modifying topics, saving, generating output, etc) without any issue.
I tried the items you talked about on your Opening Projects page that I hadn't already tried. I even tried deleting the HHP file and using the HHP file to generate a new one in the hopes I might luck out but it also hung. It did create a new XPJ file that would open but all the content was missing (I could see the table of contents but the links were all x'd out because the page they were pointing to wasn't being loaded).
One thing I have noticed is that most (though not all) of the times I try to load the project and it hangs it hangs out "Loading topic files" (other times it hangs without any text indicating what it is doing).

  • Can I convert my VBA project to some sort of batch submitted executable

Thanks to the help from you all, I have written VBA macros that open huge word documents and pluck out specific information and put it into Excel.  The files I've received have grown in size from 1500 to 3500 pages.  I'm currently running the VBA
macros by opening the document in word and then clicking "View....Macros...mymacro....Run.  The macro then runs for any where from 10 minutes to 2 hours.
Is there a way I can convert my VBA project into some sort of executable so that I can "submit" the word file to the executable? Sometimes I run this on a term server.  I'd like to start the job, log off the term server, and then later
check for the resulting excel file.
Is there a way to queue up a list of input files for this?

    Hi Denis Backer,
    >>Can I convert my VBA project to some sort of batch submitted executable<<
Yes, it is possible. We can write an application to automate open the Word documents and run the macro using
Application.Run. Also we can convert all the VBA project with mange code, however the Office automation is not supported on the server enviroment.
Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of
Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client
application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services),
because Office may exhibit unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run
    in this environment.

  • How to convert my NTSC project to PAL?

Hi! I'd like know how i can convert my ntsc project into PAL.
I need finish a DVD for my client take to ANGOLA and there is PAL system. It is possible? My Encore is 2.0.
Or It is possible put my NTSC movie into PAL project and let encore transcode the movie? Thank you very much and sorry my english.

    You have several options.
1 - Create a new PAL project in Premiere Pro. Capture your footage in the usual manner, and as soon as it is in the project, hit the ENTER key to render it.
2 - Create an NTSC project in Premiere Pro, capture to NTSC DV footage, and export it out again.
    Close project.
Create new PAL project, import the NTSC clip & then interpret/conform the footage to the project settings.
3 - Set up an NTSC project, capture footage, export to PAL DV or MPEG-2 from Premiere.
4 - Use TMPGEnc Xpress 4 - it's standards conversion is very good.
5 - Use ProCoder, as Ruud suggests
6 - Use CCE SP if you have it.
I'd try as many different ways as you can, and view the lot to see what looks the best.

  • Merging Projects in RoboHelp 8

I've never merged projects before so this is probably user
error, but when I follow the steps from the Adobe help system for
merging projects in RoboHelp 8, generate the project, and then view
it my merged project is not present. This is what I did:
    (1) Created a generic project (documentation that we reuse in
    all help systems)
    (2) Created the client project (documentation that's specific
    to this client's help system)
    (3) From the Client Project in the TOC pod, I clicked the New
    Merged Project icon
    (4) This is a WebHelp Pro project so I selected the
    FlashHelp/WebHelp/Adobe AIR tab
    (5) I browsed for the generic project (located in a seperate
    folder)
    (6) I clicked OK
    (7) The generic project name showed up in the TOC
    (8) I generated the project like normal
    (9) I clicked View Results and the only stuff that's there is
just the stuff from the client project. Nothing from the generic
    project is available.
Everything that I read says that merged project doesn't show
up until the project is published. I guess with the way we do work
I don't understand the difference between generating and
publishing. What happens is that I generate the project, zip the
WebHelp Pro folder, email it to a developer or put it in a shared
drive depending on the client and then the developer attached the
files to the system. To call the correct screen, I have to include
a HTM for every single screen (wfm) in the application. The
application calls the screen name with the same HTM name which
displays a screen help page for that particular screen and then the
user can use the navigation (TOC or search or links) to find the
help topics they're looking for. I doubt this is the "best" way to
do this, but I'm working with developers on a 12 hour time
difference and this is how they requested the files. Point being --
there is no "publishing" step according to my understanding of
publishing. I know there is a server somewhere because the actually
application we build is on a server, but I don't know the technical
aspects about how my HTM files I create get onto that server and
    display online.
    Can anyone help me?

Actually, I had generated all the child project previously,
but what I did wrong is that I didn't create a folder for the
child. It looks like in the table of contents, you actually have to
include a separate folder for the mergedProject to go into. I just
called it the same thing that I called the child project. For
example "Global Features." You can't just have the mergedProject go
into the table of contents without it being in a folder (normally).
That said, I did find a way to get it in there before I found this
solution. I did all the steps that Peter Grainge had suggested,
then I copied and pasted the !SSL folder from where the child
project was saved into the mergedProject folder of the parent
project. That's basically what RoboHelp does anyway, but doing it
manually allows for you not to have to create a folder in the table
of contents -- just provides a different navigation to the same
    thing.

    1. Copy/Paste Webdynpro components in the new project as was suggested before

  • Wiki or Robohelp - What are the benefits of using a wiki vs publishing projects in robohelp?

What are the benefits of using a wiki vs publishing projects in robohelp? I currently use RH9/RH9 Server and  publish multiple SSL.  The company is looking to stop using Robohelp and replace our online help authoring tool  (RH) with a wiki. Are there any benefits of going to a wiki environment.  What RH features/functions that I have today will i not have by having IT import our robohelp files into a wiki?
I know that a wiki is not an authoring tool, but someone must think it is and we'll still have all the functionality of publishing multiple SSLs, reports, etc once in the wiki environment.  Any comments - is this the best route?

    Hi,
There are many differences. The idea of a wiki is to allow anyone to view and/or edit the content. Depending on the wiki system, you can set access control for viewing and editing.
Wiki's typically have simple syntax (html in a wiki is a serious security risk), allow image embedding, links and attachments. You will need to learn the specific syntax (rather easy, but also very limited).
What will you lose? This depends on the features available in the wiki system as well as the available plugins. A few downsides:
    - WYSIWYG editor limited, if at all.
    - No snippets
    - No variables
    - Dropdowns (may be possible through plugins)
    - Index
    - Styling based on css classes (mostly supported through HTML which is a security concern)
    - Only one version of your support system: multiple versions require multiple installations/configurations.
    - No searching in attachments.
    - No CBT (Though some wiki's allow comments in the wiki code)
    - No Word/FrameMaker import.
    - You have to create your own CSH calls.
    On the upside:
    - Most wiki systems are free, even for commercial use.
    - The syntax is quite simple, allowing you to quickly write text.
    - Wiki's typically offer good support for syntax highlighting.
    - They are very easy to set up.
    - Most wiki's have plugins to enable comments.
The greatest downside in my opinion is that you always have the latest version of all files. Whenever you update a page, everyone immediately has the latest version. And if you want to create help for a feature that isn't released yet, you will have to use access control to make sure not everyone sees the (unfinished) help for the unreleased feature. With RoboHelp you have a single source that creates a one way output.
We use both RoboHelp and wiki's: RoboHelp for customer help and wiki internally to share knowledge. And sharing knowledge is what wiki's are designed for.
    Greet,
    Willam
