Convert flv into format for iMovie

I like to convert my YouTube downloads (FLV) into a format which can be used in iMovie. Which free converter is recommended?

I am using Total Video Converter.  You can search it by google, the first result will be the right .

  • Converting mts to format for Imovie

Still trying and trying to find an answer.  So I have tried http://www.iskysoft.com/topic-mts/convert-mtsm2ts-files-to-imovie-on-mac.html which says it will convert it to a version for imovie so I downloaded trial so that I could try it.  TOok an mts file Converted it to the version for imovie.  Tried to drag and drop it into imovie.  Nope wont do it.  Tried converting it to the MPEG format in this trial version nope wont drag and drop into imovie either.
Im willing to buy a converter but want to make sure it will work.  Have found nothing thus far that I can figure out how to convert an MTS file to a version that can be dragged and dropped into Imovie.
    Sigh so frustrated by this.
I have mts video files on my desktop in a folder.  Which I had taken from camera.  They are no longer on my camera so I cant download directly into imovie.  Trying to figure out how to convert them to a format for imovie and have tried several trials another of those being wondershare.
Maybe I am just slow but have had no success so far.
I have spent literally hours so far tonight trying to solve this problem.

    mts doesn't need a 'conversion' just a re-wrapping.
    two options
    • ReWrap2M4V - google for it, it's a free automator script; to make it run, you have to install two other items, basically to get a functioning installtion of the ffmpeg package - sounds tricky, just follow installtion advices, easy. re-wraps any mts within split-seconds
    • AVCCAM - is a QT-plugin provided by Panasonic; it teaches any QT-based app to handle mts; after DL in installation, use most popular tool Mpeg Streamclip to open your mts; then, without any settings nor conversions, goto 'save as' and choose mov.

  • Best clip format for iMovie 8?

I have a few .avi clips from a Nikon CoolPix which load alright into iMovie, but they take a long time to load. Is there a better format for iMovie and should I convert the clips to that format?
    Thank you,
    ray

iM is meant by concept for camcorder imports.
    its internal codec is appeleintermediate.
I doubt, a 'manual' conversion is faster than iM's.
but give it a try, a popular (and free) tool is Mpeg Streamclip

  • Converting VOB movie files for iMovie 09

I would like to import movie files into iMovie 09 which are in the VOB format. How do I convert the files to a format for iMovie 09?

I purchased this Mac two days ago. For a work application I purchased this camera 1 week ago. When I bought the camera I asked the vendor if software came with the camera that would allow me to load the videos onto the computer but when I received the camera no software was included and no one from Canon or the camera vendor would help. I had a Canon DC 330 that came with the software last year but someone from my company made off with it. Another story another day.
I've used PC's for years but I've been wanting to try a Mac anyway so I went into the Apple store with a VOB file that the PC would not read. It took a little fussing but the tech loaded the VOB file directly from the 3" DVD (took a few minutes to find a machine that read the DVD) into iMovie. Worked real slick so I walked out with a new Mac. I knew there would be a significant learning curve but nothing ventured nothing gained.
The Apple Store is over an hours drive one way but I suppose I'll have to go back and see if I can figure this out. Not an issue, just time consuming.
Anyway suggestions would be most appreciated. I will try the tip found on this post but any steps I can save would be great.

  • Convert mpeg2 to what for iMovie HD?

I have a home built DVR that creates MPEG-2 files. Currently, I'm using MPEG Streamclip to cut out the commercials and convert to DV. Next, I use iMovie HD to put the clips in order and set chapters for iDVD to author and burn.
For a 2 hour TV movie, this can take a couple of hours for all the conversions and formatting. Is there another format that I can use to speed this up? The funny thing is, the MPEG-2's that I started with can be used directly to create a DVD if I don't want menus (it plays when I put the DVD in).

I don't see how you can avoid doing what you're doing. MPEG-2 is not an editing format. If you want to use iMovie 6, you need to convert your MPEG-2 into DV for iMovie to work with it. Ironically, you are then going to convert it back to MPEG-2 when iDVD burns a DVD disk.
Ideally, you want to import directly into iMovie 6 in a DV format without the necessity of converting. Or, as you said, go directly from MPEG-2 to DVD.
I am not a tech expert like some contributors to this forum. There are all kinds of software and conversion techniques out there. I don't have iMovie 08 on my computer, but it might be able to provide options other than DV. Perhaps one of the gurus here will have some helpful suggestions.

  • Hello, what is the best way for me to convert RW2 raw format for use in Photoshop CC

Hello, what is the best way for me to convert RW2 raw format for use in Photoshop CC. I would appreciate any help with this.

Thanks for the quick help. I do have to leave for work. When I try to
download the images from the camera they seem to only be in jpeg (I don't
see any rw2 or raw files to download). If I select the jpeg file it seems
to only download a jpeg file. I do understand that I do have the option to
open the jpeg in RAW. In doing this, is all the extra information included
in the RAW file there or is it lost coming from the camera
Once again thank you for trying to make me understand how this works.
    Have a great day.

Hi Mazdauk, To convert ASF to AVI, I recommend you the iorgsoft video converter which I have been using. It claims to support ASF as input and AVI as output. Anyway, I haven't converted ASF to AVI, most of the time, I convert MTS to MP4. You can have a try first.

  • Convert DVDs (make on iDVD) back to DV format for iMovie

I have quite a collection of DVDs of home video all made on iMovie and iDVD.
Not thinking to well, i figured this was the be all and end all solution to managing my home videos. As a result i no longer have the original film from which the video was taken.
The issue now is that i want to reuse some clips from these DVDs. And with the new iMovie, keep all your video in a library (which now makes sense), i would like to convert my DVDs back to a digital format.
I have used handbrake in the past to import the video as mpg4.
This is not ideal. Making DVD = DV to mpg1. Hanbrake from DVD = mpg4. Editing mpg4 in imove *****. reburn to DVD = mpg1. The quality by now is super bad.
Does anybody have a better solution to this issue. Can i import to a DV format ... ?
(PS The tabs in this text editor looks strangely like they are from Windows XP)

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    VisualHub (23.32$)
    Drop2DV (free)
    Cinematize >60$
    Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter

  • Converting Large AVI files for iMovie

I had an old 16mm film transferred into AVI files (HD, very high quality).  The main file is too large to edit (200G), and even play on my machine.  I had them converted by the same company that did the transfer, but there is so much loss of quality, they are only good for a small digital video.  Goal is to produce this on DVD (from iMovie) for later distribution.
So my question is this--what file format should I get these AVI files converted to, so the end output is maximum quality for DVD?  IAny help and advice appreciated!

Hi, thank you for your response!  I don't have access to a MAC right now, so will need to check later (the EHD the large files are on is formatted for MACs), but I'm sure it's uncompressed.
Even editing with a RAID, don't I eventually have to compress to fit onto a typical DVD?  So if I compressed or converted now, could I edit without a RAID?  If so, I'm just wondering what best to convert to, for maximum quality on the finished DVD product later on.

  • Best format for iMovie input: DV or AppleIntermetiateCodec

I thought (and I think I read here several times) that the best input for iMovie, if you use a MiniDV camcorder, was to import the DV files into the app.
Now I have read an article ( http://imovietricks.blogspot.com/ )where it is said that iMovie does not properly work with those files and that a previous conversion to AppleIntermediateCodec should be give better quality.
Can someone give more information about this subject?
I think is a very interesting subject not only for the quality but because AppleIntermediateCodec files are half the size as DV files which make them more easily stored.

I have only DV camera and this issue is very important to me. I have read probably all the threads about it and have seen no solution. I even bought an e-book from a guy who said here that he knows the solution (but didn't of course open the secret here in forum) and guess what he recommended in his book? To convert the files to AIC.
As there have been so many discussions about it then I wouldn't say that iMovie works perfectly well with DV. Even Macworld mentioned this in their review of iMovie '08:
+"...The bad news is that in order to get this real time performance without renders or progress bars, there is some sacrifice in quality. For interlaced video such as DV and 1080i HDV, iMovie now uses single-field processing. This means every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage..."+
    http://www.macworld.com/article/59668/2006/12/imovie08.html
Sorry, but I have difficulties believing anyone who claims that iMovie '08 handles DV fine. If all these reports were wrong and iMovie really could give full quality from DV then Apple would have refuted such reports (especially ones by popular magazines like Macworld) and given some guidelines.

  • Can't load/import converted video into itunes for sync

I converted a video into ipod format by 2 diff software. They seem to have converted correctly as I can play them in apple quicktime. I tried to bring them into itunes for sync, but can't bring them. I tried dragging into movies, tried import, tried add files. Non of them working. Can anybody help me in this, ho can I bring the file into itunes? I am using itune 7, should I go back to old ver (6.x..)?

I just converted some TV shows with iSquint, and drug them over to movies and presto they were there... I then when into Info, changed them to TV shows and they moved over to TV Shows.
    It works.

  • Video: MOV/H.264 format for iMovie

For years I have used a Sony HandyCam with digital tape, inside of a Sony underwater housing to do underwater video.  Great quality and editing it in iMovie is a piece of cake.  I have had no compatability issues.  Trouble is hauling the housing, the tapes, etc.  I am thinking about buying an Olympus TG-2 IHS which records in MOV/H.264 format.  One camera to do it all.
I am concerned about editing in iMovie since this format is a compressed format versus the digital tape.  Does anyone have any experience to share with this format in iMovie?

That will require conversion to a format that iMovie can use, which will give slight quality loss.

  • File format for iMovie 13 (10.0.3) export

What are the exact file format characteristics used by imovie 13 when exporting a file in HD1080p (i.e. the type of audio codec, video codec, frame rates, and bit rates)?  The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to upload a large movie that I export to a file from imovie before uploading it to youtube via the youtube website (it's too large to export it directly from imovie to youtube - it won't allow it even though I have the capability from you tube to export large movies).  I'd like to ensure this movie is in the optimal recommended format for youtube upload.  Thanks for any insight.

    Klaus,
I tried it several times with no avail. When you press the Share button what happens?  Do you get a dialog or something like that which provides options to do the export?  When I press the share button, nothing happens. You can see a click but no dialog, no options.  It should give you options so you can pick the format you want it export as. Then I could see it taking all night. Does that that make sense?
I attached three images showing each Share button/menu. None of which will do anything when clicked.  Notice the Share menu is selected but no child menu shows up.
    Thanks,
    Calvin
