Convert from AIFF-C audio to midi

I'm looking for a way to convert from AIFF-C format to midi on my Mac, and to use with a music program.
I can import the AIFF-C file into GarageBand, but can't seem to export it in midi format, which surprised me -- is this not supported?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Thanks for your replies.
I did a bit of research, and see that there are a number of software products out there that claim to convert audio to midi, but I also see that reviewers report mixed results. So before exploring or trying one of these, somewhat blindly, I was hoping to see if there were any options I had missed with Mac software I already own and trust, from GarageBand to QuickTime to Finale's PrintMusic (have I missed anything?).
And if not, then I'm hoping to get more info from Mac users about what you may have tried and what works best. Here are some of the leading options I've tripped across so far, converting to midi from audio formats AIFF-C and mp3 (since I have easy access to the source as well as the ripped versions):

... and then I just found this one: http://convert.software.informer.com/download-convert-aiff-to-midi-mac/
If you have any thoughts about any of the above, or other techniques or software that would do the job, I'm all ears!
Thanks!

Hmmmm ... yes, I agree. In my case I have a recording of a multi-piece band backing up 4 vocalists, and want to tease-out the vocal parts. Hard to separate all the instrumental and vocal "voicings"! Now, if I was able to get a good piece of the conversion done through software, I could possibly fill in the gaps through listening carefully ...

  • Converting from aiff to mpg not working

I followed the instructions provided here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1550
to convert an aiff file to an mp3 file, but after I do the converstion the file is still an aiff. I do a 'get info' and it says it is an aiff file, and also I try dragging it to my desktop and it an aiff file.
I originally created the file in garageband and imported it into itunes. The file is 20 minutes long.
Strangely I can convert a short song of 3 minutes successfully from aiff to mg3.
Any ideas of what could be happening here and how to fix it?

iTunes converts but makes a new file and also leaves the original.

  • 5300 - files converted from avi have audio/vido sy...

I am at my wits end. Hopefully someone here can help.
I have avi files of a cartoon series and am trying to convert them so I can take them with me when travelling to watch on my Nokia 5300 phone.
No matter what I try, once hte file is on the phone, the audio plays quicker than the video, and gets further ahead the longer the clip plays for. IT is noticeable even during the opening credits though.
I have used the guide at http://www.osnews.com/comment.php?news_id=16983&limit=no&threshold=-1 but without success.
I have also used the following software when doing the encoding:
    Nokia multimedia converter
    Xilisoft
    Super
    Mediacoder
Quicktime Pro (although had usability issues with this)
The files created in many instances work fine on the computer, but the sync problem appears when I copy them to the phone for playback.
I can get perfect sync using Nokia multimedia converter to get 3gp, but the video quality is terrible (very grainy) and the audio is too crackly to be able to understand, even with both on maximum quality settings (allowable settigns are not very high though in the Nokia Multimedia converter).
I have updated my phones firmware yesterday but this has done nothing in relation to this issue.
The tutorial link referred to above also has a Fantastic 4 movie trailer as a test file, and this has the sync problem when I put it on my phone as well.
Definately appears to be a software issue in the phone, but if anyone knows if this is solvable and how, or even if it is not sovlable please comment.
I don't know much about frame persecond and bit rate settings etc, so if anyone can suggest any settings to try in any of these programs I will run the tests and let you know the results.
    cheers

    Hi...
Just to let u knw that I'm also trying 2 convert Mickey Mse Clbhouse cartoon (avi file) to 3gp for my 1yr old daughter 2 watch-on-the-go.
Once I open this file from Nokia Multimedia Player, a window pops out saying 'Video Codec for nokia multimedia player is missing...'. After that, I'm only able to hear the file's sound with a blank screen. Anybody faced this kind of problem? Where can I find/load the missing codec?
PS: I downloaded a software called Plato Video To 3GP Converter & it works buuttt this is just a trial version. It can convert a file up to 2MB only. Shucks!! I have 2 purchase its full license then only I can load more than 2MB. The pic & sound seems perfect to me but its video were cut short....ehehehehe. My gurl got upset

  • Will converting files from .AIFF to .WAV affect ANY aspects of the audio?

I have to ask this question because I am submitting my mastered tracks for digital distribution right now. I have them in .AIFF but they need to be uploaded as .WAV. Please let me know. I don't have the heart to go through and listen to each individual track once i've converted them all to WAV. I'm ready to get it done!
Also, please let me know the easiest way to convert these AIFFs into WAVs. Should I just Bounce them in Logic as .WAVs. Thanks a bunch. Excuse the simplicity of this question. I'm just very vulnerable right now that i'm about to FINALIZE my album. I don't want to take any chances.

Converting from .aiff to .wav will change NOTHING concerning the audio.
You can batch convert from the Bin in Logic, do the whole lot in one swift stroke. Don't change sample rate or bit depth when converting, let the mastering house do that if need be.

  • Converting audio to midi

I want to convert audio to midi.
I know the Melodyne plugin does this...but is there any other way? Can it be done in Logic 9?
Thanks in advance from a potential L9 buyer.
    Chris

Thought I'd show what you can do with Melodyne cre8.
    http://www.digimixstudios.net/bassToMidi/
Single note bass lines work great, but once you have the midi file in Logic, you can create chords or anything else you need in your bass midi track.

  • When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?

When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?

When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?
That would depend on your work flow. MOV is the generic QuickTime file container and is not related to any particular data compression format. If you perform a simple "Save" or "Save As..." action that merely copies the data in the WAV file to an MOV file, then the data remains unchanged and maintains its original quality. If, on the other hand, your transcode/re-compress the original data to a different compression format, then there is always the potential for some loss in quality. Depending on the codec and/or settings, the potential loss could be inaudible to severe.

  • Best way to convert audio to midi?

    Hi.
I am in the process of layering/replacing drums and will need to create midi from some of my drum tracks.
Here is the ways I found so far:
    Region to new sampler track:
    - Pro: You can use transientmarkers as base for creating midi (which is the way I prefer)
    - Con: All velocities gets the same (?)
Drum replacement / Audio to Score:
    - Pro: Midi velocities based on the transients
    - Con: You can not generate midi based on transientmarkers. You need to use a threshold setting,
which means you get a hard time if you have a lot of "spill" in the track.
So, is the above observations right?
In my dream world I would like to base the midi on transient markers and get velocities based on the transients. Is this possible?
    All the best!

You're asking a bit much from automated processes there, I think - I  mean,  making a sampler instrument could well be a good idea, but you can't expect it to include how you're thinking about it with different velocities like you would with a set of drum samples versus a set of string samples, they're gonna be completely different - that's the bit you have to think about when you're building sampler instruments though, innit ?
There are a few different ways of translating audio to MIDI data - it might work for drums with Logic's own thing - it might need some editing, as well, not difficult but a bit tedious. To me, this is where Melodyne comes into its own.

  • Converting "FLAC" and other Audio Format files from Vuze to iTunes

Good afternoon. I have a Mac Book computerthat I purchased about two years ago.  I have ITunes loaded on mycomputer. I use Vuze as a software program to download music and video toITunes.  However, it appears that iTunes will not concert "FLAC"and other formats of audio from Vuze. Can anyone recommend what free softwaresoftware program is preferable to use to convert the "FLAC" and otheraudio formats from Vuze to use in iTunes?  Thank you in advance for anyassistance you can provide concerning this issue.

I have used xACT in the past, and I now use Max for all my FLAC conversion needs. If you need to tag the FLAC files before conversion, Tag is basic but good.
For conversion inside iTunes you might want to check out Quick Convert from Doug's AppleScripts.

  • Does Anyone Or Does Everyone Except Me Know How To Convert Audio To MIDI?

Hello. I'm your new neighbor... I'll be good in the hood... I've been using Logic for 3 years. I have been mixing 14 Tracks of Audio ever since... Never again. No, never, ever, ever, ever again! Ever!
Two questions: Can Logic Pro 7 "Convert" Audio into MIDI? If not will you kindly impart knowledge to Grasshopper which "Software" is widely accepted as the best?
I'll check with Sound On Sound if no one has info here... Thanks.

Does it usually take a long time for Replys? I once asked a simple question in a Recording Studio Forum and waited 20 minutes and said: "This *****, I'm outta here" I returned a year later and found 50 messages saying how impatient I was and even a few kicks in my iAss.
I was a real newbie. More dollars than sense... Avalon, SPL, T.C. Elec... blah-blah. "I'll 'Master my own stuff!" So, I wanted to use the Hardware to "soften". Not a peep! Hello-o-o-o-o-o! All I had was pretty lights glowing.
When I learned the following day, it was only a 'Click' or two away. Usually is with Mac. I love my G5 for Music Production. I've tried 2 PowerBooks an 864(?) and a 1 GHz 17", neither could handle the load of 60 Tracks of Audio. G5, I have increased the Tracks to 78. We're talkin' smokin' trackin' Tracks.
I'll see if I have an answer to:
Does Anyone Or Does Everyone Except Me Know How To Convert Audio To MIDI?
If not I'll slip away quietly and wonder... Does anyone know? I'll return with how to or what to use tomorrow. Then we'll all know!

  • Audio to MIDI Groove/Audio to Score - Undocumented Change

Anyone who uses these functions may have noticed a recent change in behaviour.
From page 464 of the manual...
"Creating an Audio to MIDI Groove Template"
"5 Click on any audio trigger point to prevent it from being transferred to the template.
Manually selected (unused) points will be dimmed."
Well... the background of the 'trigger point' area used to be white and totally independent from the region selection process, so although the trigger points themselves are only one pixel wide, it wasn't a problem if you missed one when clicking; you just kept clicking until you got it. The problem now is that the trigger point area is dark and is included as part of the region selection process, so if you miss a trigger point by even one pixel when clicking, the region will become deselected.
Something else not mentioned in the manual is that holding the Option/Alt key will prevent region deselection when clicking the trigger point background. Be careful not to drag while option-clicking though, as this will move the region boundaries.

There is the Audio to Score function located in the sample editor->Factory->Audio to score which will convert Audio files into Midi Data, but it mainly works reasonably well with monophonic melodic material and drums/percussive sounds. So don't expect harmonic material/chords to be converted as you might expect.

  • How can I convert a .m4r file to a .mid file?

How can I convert a .m4r file to a .mid file?
I have a m4r file that I'd like to use on my Motorola Razor phone. It uses .mid files.
    TIA
    -Apple //GS

Im no tech expert, but .m4r is the file for song ringtones on the iPhone right? Like the ones from iTunes that you make?
If so, im pretty sure that can't be converted to MIDI...long tech story short, a MIDI isnt exactly a straight up audio file like a m4r, or mp3, etc. is. To dumb it down (since I dont even know the technical terms), MIDIs have almost like an internal sound bank, that reads the music, almost like sheet music data.
m4r and other audio files, are just plain audio files, and you can go from MIDI to mp3 for example, but not mp3 to MIDI.

  • "Error while trying to sync Audio and Midi"

"Error while trying to sync Audio and Midi" I have been having this problem now and then for some time. Now, I can't run any audio files without a lot of popping. I tried all the suggestions on the support document for this issue. I even downloaded new drivers from Motu for my Express XT Midi interface and my 828MK11 Audio interface. There has been no change. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!
Also, I have tried reseting the 828 to factory default and that does not help.
    Jonathan Jenkins

    Hi,
I solved my own problem by resetting the factory presets:
Follow these steps to restore the MOTU 828mkII to Factory Default Settings.
Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
    Press the Setup knob
Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
    Press the Select knob
    Press the Value knob
Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable back in
    Power the interface back on
The same steps can be followed to restore the Factory Default Settings on a Traveler.

  • "error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI"

    Hello All,
Just got Logic 8... installed (as upgrade from 7)
    I keep (consistantly) getting this:
"error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI" when in play or record mode... has anyone any ideas regarding a 'fix' or maybe even to point out stupidity on my part re settings; I'm open to comments here and would obviously love to get this fixed/sorted out.
    System is basically: G5 Dual 1.8/OS 10.4.10/MOTU 828 Mk2
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I first did what the manual was telling me but that made no difference as the sync would drop within 5 to 15 bars... very frustrating.
Since my original posting I have spoken with MOTU regarding this Audio/MIDI sync problem. There is evidently a simple reset that needs to be done (that is if like me you are using a MOTU 828 Mk2 interface), you have to toggle through both digital input and output settings in the Audio Control Panel. The problem then goes away.
I hope that is helpful. I think that this probably is relevant to all MOTU interfaces, or is at least worth trying if you are having this problem... maybe other manufacturers too... ?
    Cheers, Kick

Then why are you converting iTunes purchases?
You cannot get higher resolution by converting  the original. This goes for converting anything, not just iTunes purchases.
Creating an AIFF will simply make the file 10 time as large with zero increase in quality.
Don't really want to debate value of creating the new version.
    Agreed.
You are simply wasting time and drive space converting iTunes purchases to AIFF.
