"Convert" from RAW to JPEG?

I normally shoot in RAW so I have the power to make more accurate corrections, if needed. 90% of the time I don't need the RAW image after I've made adjustments, however. Here's what I would like to accomplish using Aperture 3:
-Import RAW images
-Make adjustments to photos as needed
-"Convert" all images 3 stars and below to JPEG and replace (i.e. DELETE) all associative Master RAW images.
What I've been doing is exporting all the images to my desktop after I've made the adjustments, delete all the photos out of the album, and re-import the JPEG images into the album.
Obviously, this is not a very efficient method and a "convert" option would be nice to use if it's present.

The answer is 'No'.
There is no way of doing what you want, many of us in the real world would love that. I for one understand your question from the stand point of I don't want to save every image I ever take in RAW because of the file size.
If you camera can support taking photos in RAW+Jpeg, then there is a route to take that is discussed in this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2375402&start=0&tstart=0
In essence, with RAW+Jpeg, you take a photo in both formats. Note the Jpeg version captures the photo with your camera settings intact (i.e. Creative mode settings, saturation, picture style 'stuff' as an example).
You import (have to choose in import, bottom right corner...outlined in above thread) and then choose which you want to keep Raw and which to keep in jpeg.
That is, for the moment, the best route to take....if you can. Not all cameras offer Raw+Jpeg.
Best of luck! I know your pain!

  • Saving from bridge and converting from raw to jpeg

why can I not convert from raw to jpeg in bridge (camera raw) and save to a location different from the  original

    Yep sure can.
In bridge select your picture(s) then edit in camera raw.
In camera raw look in the bottom left of the camera raw dialog box and you will see a save as button.
This will allow you to save your raw files as jpg, tiff or pngs.

  • Hidden file when converting from raw to jpeg. How to delete this?

I just found out that when converting raw into jpeg in Photoshop there is a hidden file enclosed starting with ._ Computers don't see them but televisions do. I discovered this because I want to show a batch of my images on a television with a usb of a sd card. It shows my images and after each normal image I get a black image with a questionmark. It says 'cannot read this file' and it shows the name of the image but with a ._ in front of it. For instance garden.jpg and then -_garden.jpg. Computers don't read images starting with ._ but televisions seem to do so. I want to delete these ._ images because I cannot show a slide show of my images on a television. Anyone can help? It seems that this hidden file is incorporated into the jpeg file.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I have thought of this solution but these files are not showing when I set it this way. I had a specialist helping me to find this problem and he was very surprised that these hidden files didn't show up in his special program for showing hidden information. Only when going deeper and deeper into this program these files showed on his computer. As they are incorporated into the original file (the jpeg version) you don't seem to be able to delete them. What do people do when they want to show (jpeg converted from raw)images on their tv?
I have a Mac if that helps.

  • Convert from RAW to Jpeg on iPad?

Do any of the 3rd party photography apps let you convert RAW images to Jpeg on the iPad itself?
Do any of them let you change the resolution, especially resize to 72 dpi for Web viewing?

I don't know of any applications that can access the actual RAW data.
Even the iPad photos app doesn't really understand RAW ... I believe that it is just showing you the embedded jpg that exists in all RAW formats.
I believe that some of the photo apps (such as "Photogene for iPad") can also read in the embedded jpg and resize / adjust / etc. the photo and then let you send the photo to other apps such as Facebook. How well this will work will depend on the size of the embedded jpg in the RAW format you use. My camera is the 5D mark II which has full resolution jpg files. Other cameras (like the original 5D) have much smaller embedded jpgs.

  • When converting an image from raw to jpeg , the jpeg can look flat compared to the original raw image . Is there anything I can do about this ?

When converting an image from raw to jpeg , the jpeg can look flat compared to the original raw image . Is there any way to prevent this ?

Hi Joe , Thank you for your quick response . I am viewing the jpeg in Microsoft Picture Manager and Flickr. It 's not always really noticeable , but for example if I shoot into the light with dew on the grass , the dew glistens in LRoom and I'm happy with the shot but when I convert it to jpeg ,it looks dull. I have changed the setting to sRGB - from Adobe 1998 ,but don't see much difference.  Kind regards   Alberto.

  • How do I process multiple files and turn them from raw to jpeg

How do I process multiple files and turn them from raw to jpeg. Ive tried and it seems to go through the files but doesnt seem to process them or store them in the selected folder

Yes that was the first thing I did. Then I used the process multiple files and selected a new folder to put them in and selected use open files and selected to turn them into jpeg. The images flash on the screen like they are being processed, but the folder never appears in library. Is it possible because there are a couple 16 bit files open that this corrupts the task. Do I need to create the folder first. Will elements not create the folder on its own.
    Thanks Vince

  • I have an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.4 I also have about 30 Kodack photo CDs that I wish to convert from PCD to Jpeg but Mavericks will not see the files, they are grey.  Is there any way to convert them?

I have an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.4 I also have about 30 Kodack photo CDs that I wish to convert from PCD to Jpeg but Mavericks will not see the files, they are grey.  Is there any way to convert them or must I do it on another machine?
    Kaibil

iPhoto used to support the PCD format up to a few years ago. It's extremely frustrating that Apple decided to no longer support this format and now I'm directed to pay nearly $40 for an app that will (GraphicConverter 9). Did Lemke Software make a deal with Apple so we'd have to pay a premium for a very overpriced converter? And, how are decisions like this supposed to encourage the use of iPhoto?
Apple users already pay a premium to use a Mac. Obstacles like these eventually destroy loyalty to the Apple brand. Just ask Microsoft how their back room deals that exploited their customer base worked out for them.

  • How to batch convert entire library from raw to jpeg

I would like to know if it is possible to convert my entire iphoto library from mostly raw to jpeg and save as different library. The reason for this is ATV2 will only stream  8gigs at a time and it is annoying and inconvienent to go upstairs to change the selected album settings in itunes when viewing a different group of albums (my library is mostly raw files and tops out at about 300gigs. If entire library is selected ATV2 diisplays the library titles no problem but if attempting to view one it displays the loading gear wheel forever on the screen. I'm sure if I can convert the whole thing to jpeg and preserve the directory structure this will solve the problem as it will be  a much smaller file.
Thanks is advance for any thoughts on this.
    Dave

I would like to know if it is possible to convert my entire iphoto library from mostly raw to jpeg and save as different library.
File -> Export and select Jpeg as the format. Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events. You can then import that to an iPhoto Library.

  • Used Photoshop Image processor to batch convert from CR2 to Jpeg and the edits don't stick

Ok, so I had a huge wedding where the bride paid me to deliver a ton of images.  Well, i did all my edits in ACR and then photoshop.  While in photoshop all the edits look to have been applied.  So, I use edit > Scripts>Image processor to convert the CR2 files to Jpeg in one fell Swoop.   Well, on my last run though (checking any images for missed edits or what not), none of of the edits were applied to the saved jpegs.  So I bring one up in Photoshop (the saved Jpeg) and the edits are applied in Photoshop.  So I click save and it tries to save as a PSD file (which it was not originally saved as).  I click to JPEG and it asks to replace the existing file and I do.  Voila, all the edits are a-pplied.  Now, I have about 200 images that I need to do this on.
Is this common with the image processor?  Is it not for converting processed Raw files to JPEG and keep the edits?
I'm very frustrated since now, depending on my misunderstand of the tool, I have to spend extra time saving the files again.  (At least I don't have to re-edit them)

I have action I wrote so that on large groups of pictures I hit my actions.  It goes through the whole set.  Then I hit my flatten and it goes through the whole set.  Then I go to scripts > image processor  and covert them to jpeg.
The weird thing is when I bring up the jpegs in photoshop, all the edits are there.  When I look through Photo Mechanic or upload them to the web, they aren't

  • Converting From GIF To JPEG...

Alright gang, I've got a pic in .gif format and want to convert it to .jpeg. iPhoto tells me to change it with another application, but doesn't tell me what? Any ideas?
Normally, in the world of PC's, I'd just convert it using MS's Paint program.
    Anyone?
    Bob

    HI Bobby,
In your Applications folder there is a program called Preview. If you double click on an image file, Preview is usually the default application that will open it.
Once opened by Preview, do a "save as" and choose jpg as the format.

  • LR won't convert my raws to jpeg

This problem started a couple of days ago. When exporting. I naturally chose 'jpeg' but it doesn't convert the photos which of course means they are unusable. iPhoto is able to convert them, so it's an issue with LR.

    boadoreen wrote:
Thank you Thomas! Renaming the folder seems to have done the trick. I have to admit as a new user, I'm baffled by LR's filing system, especially since filing organization is supposedly it's strong suit. Based on what just happened, how would I get all my photos that are related to the same subject in one folder?
Perhaps a clarification is in order ... "Filing organization" (in my opinion) has never been Lightroom's strong suit, and Lightroom offers no improvement in "filing organization" over your operating system.
Lightroom does offer ways to organize photos that have nothing to do with the file location or folder location/name. These ways to organize include keywords, captions and other metadata. These are Lightroom's strong suit. These allow you to organize and search independently of file and folder location, for example, you can find all photos of waterfalls, regardless of the folder they are located in, via assigning keywords to photos as appropriate and then searching for all photos with keyword "waterfall".
Thus, to answer your question, you can assign a keyword to all photos "that are related to the same subject", rather than moving them to folders. Then, when you want to find them and/or do something with them, you would search for all photos with the specified keyword. As I said, this allows you to find these photos and do something with these photos, even if they are located in many different folders.

  • PSE changes time of pictures when changed from RAW to JPEG?

The RAW files of my pictures show the true time the picture was taken. But when I save the file as a JPEG format, it adds more hours to the actual time. What is causing PSE to do this and how do I correct it??

Or have you stripped the Metadata during the Export.....if you have "Copyright Only" selected in the Metadata section of the Export dialog, all original dates are stripped, and you'll get only the file created/modified dates (which will be the date/time of export).

  • Changes in line definition when converting from Freehand to jpeg format

When I change my maps into jpeg formats, the lines change.
e.g. a dahed line may become dashes and dots, not as they were drawn. This has happened since I had a new hard disk in my iMac.
    Can anyone help?
    Blodwin

I would try other raster-based formats like TIF and PNG to see if the problem is there. Also does this change happen to all dashed lines or only on a certain type of line? I would try various line widths, colors, straight/curve, group/ungroup, etc. to find if any variables cause this to happen or not.
Also, with the new Hard Drive did you reinstall the OS and Applications or was this a separate drive from your startup dirve? Did you have to reinstall FreeHand and remember to add all the updates? also set the preferences to your last version?
