Convert higher bitrate songs options stops iPod update

Hello, This is my first post so apologies if this is old news. I had my iPod shuffle set to convert higher bitrates to AAC (in an effort to pack more songs on). However, with this option set my iTunes was extremely slow (10-15 minutes a song) to update my iPod if it was anything but the foreground application. It was slower as a foreground app but nothing like what happened if it was a background app. I did a bit of testing and it turns out if I turn off the "Convert" option everything proceeded very quickly. Is there a setting in Windows XP that could help with this or is this a known issue?

Because it is simply loading the iPod, not converting it and then loading it.

There is nothing to "help" with nor is it an "issue".
The only way to "help" with it is to get a faster computer, bit will still be slower than not converting.
If you songs are already 128 kps, turn this option off as there is nothing to convert to.
If they are higher bit rates and you do not want to wait, turn this option off. However, you will get less songs on the iPod.

  • Convert Higher Bitrate Songs for Regular iPod

I recently switched to a mac from a windows pc and now I'm finding some of the key features of the software that I was using, (Media Center from JRiver) missing. I have converted all of my music from flac to apple lossless, (200GB) and the key workflow for me is:
    1. Convert from apple lossless to a smaller codec when importing music to my iPod. This can be done on the shuffle with the, "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kpbs aac for this iPod" option. It would be great to include this functionality for regular iPods, and the ability to select the codec used for conversion if a higher bit rate is desired.
    2. Synchronize my iPod with iTunes and have the track information like My Rating synchronize from the low bit rate song on the iPod to the high bit rate song in the iTunes library.
The current workflow requires a duplicate version of the high bit rate tracks in the lower bit rate, which can take up quite a bit of space when using a 60GB iPod. These simple options made using Media Center very nice and I'm sure they would make your clients happy.
Thank you for helping me direct my request to the right place!
    Marc

Has anyone found a way of easily converting Apple Lossless files into those of a lower bit rate for use with any iPod other than the shuffle (the iTunes for the shuffle has the nice option to convert to 128kbps on syncing).
My Nano isn't much use as it can only hold 3 Albums imported in Lossless and I can't work out how to change them into a lower bit rate without having to re-import the album from the CDs and selecting the appropriate bit rate to encode at.
    Thanks

  • Cannot Find File - Convert higher bitrate songs to 128kb AAC on an iPhone??

I ran out of room on my iPhone 3G, so I checked the "Convert higher bitrate songs to 128kb AAC" option. I had already made an 'iPhone' playlist as the only playlist synched with iTunes, and the playlist reduced its iPhone footprint by roughly 25%. It worked well except for several songs that "could not be found" by iTunes. These are all songs for which I have the CD, and play perfectly in iTunes (and on the iPhone before the conversion).
I have tried deleting the songs from my 'iPhone' playlist, iTunes, and my hard drive and reinstalling from the CD (first to iTunes then to the iPhone playlist) - ALL with reboots and permission repairs between reinstalls. These 13 songs seem to be impossible to convert, despite several other songs from the same CDs converting perfectly!!!
After each attempt, iTunes goes through and re-evaluates the gaps, which takes time. This is not a problem, I just note it for diagnostic purposes.
How do I resolve this perplexing and vexing conversion problem? The songs ARE on the hard drive, and iTunes CAN find them (because they play in other playlists and played before the conversion) they just do not seem to convert.
    Help!

Everything is up to date, except for the security patch released yesterday. That is on the list for a 'today task' but I have not gotten to it yet.

  • Itunes "convert higher bitrate songs" not working properly

    hello,
i recently used the option "convert higher bitrate songs to 128kbps aac" to save storage space on my iphone. it worked like a charm and i saved several gigabytes.
HOWEVER, as soon as i sync my iphone again, it starts to reencode approx. 60 tracks again! it takes a while of course and after that, the tracks are converted and on my iphone (i checked it). if i sync again it will reencode again the very same tracks (and delete them before from my iphone). this is really annoying because it costs time and cpu usage.
i didnt changed those files, i checked the date when they were changed, and they werent changend at all this month!
does anyone have an idea? i really like this option, but if it means that i have to convert 60tracks everytime i sync my iphone, i will have to disable it...
    regards

I am seeing this artwork bug too, on my nano. It seems to be tied to the 128 kbps songs, but I can't pinpoint exactly what makes it happens.
All I know is, now that I'm using the 128 conversion, I have to reset my nano at least once per day to get artwork back. It also seems to be tied to coming out of pause or hold. After I've paused music and come back later, the artwork shows a white box. But not all the time, so I wonder if it's only when I pause a song that has lyrics.

  • Will iTunes ever add the syncing option to convert higher bitrate songs to 320 bitrate?

Most of my music is ALAC, but I do have several that are 257-320 bitrate AAC/MP3. When syncing to my iPod Nano, everything won't fit as is. So I have to convert to 256 while syncing. Of course, this further degrades the higher bitrate AAC/MP3 songs.
APPLE: It can't be that hard to add the 320 bitrate option. Can it???

  • When converting higher bitrate songs to 128 does it alter the music library on the pc?

I have an iPhone 5S 64 GB and an iPod Nano 6th generation 16 GB that I sync to a windows based PC. I have 15.28 GB of music on my PC. It fits nicely as is and at the higher bitrate. I would love to put all that music on my iPod. I am curious if I convert the higher bitrate to say 128, does this affect the music on my PC and on my iPhone or does it just convert the music and put it on my iPod?

The music on the PC and iPhone won't be affected.

I have unchecked the box that converts my higher resolution songs to 128 kpbs downloaded to my iPod classic. How do I restore the higher resolution songs to the iPod?

Uncheck the option to sync music to your iPod from under the iPod's Music configuration pane and hit Apply.  After it has completed, retick the option and again hit Apply to resync all your music from your main iTunes library back to your iPod.
Or restore your iPod and start from scratch.

  • Album artwork doesn't synch when converting higher bitrates

    Hi!
This worked before so not sure if it is the new version of iTunes (10.6) or the iOS (5.1).  When I have the convert higher bitrate to 128 kbps checked, it imports the song but if the bitrate is greater than 128 kbps, the artwork doesn't get imported.
I've tested it with it checked and without and it works when you don't do the conversion.
Looks like a bug to me...anyone else run into this issue?

    Hi,
Got the same issues when using the conversion to 128kbps.
Everything is fine when the bitrate is already 128 or without using the conversion.
NB : I don't have the issue with my old iPod nano when using this option, so maybe it's an iOS issue.

  • Function Fill free space with music on iPhone skipping high bitrate songs

Hi, I have in my Library some high quality songs (m4a 320) and this (fill free space...) function skipping theses songs.
I must add it to iPhone manualy.
    Any help?

I have studio headphones. And 128kbps AAC is low. I like listen 320kbps AAC it's much better then 128 or 320mp3.

  • Convert higher bitrate to 128aac ERROR

If I check the option to convert to 128kbps aac and try to sync my iPhone 4 (4.3.3) the sync will freeze giving me a pletora of errors after a few songs.
Then I will have to set the iPhone as a new iPhone in iTunes and re-sync everything once.
If I sync normally everything is allright. I have an iPod nano and I'm able to use that option perfectly. My music wasn't bought in iTunes but that shouldn't matter anyway.
    What should I do?

When the capability to shrink-n-sync first came out in 9.1, it had several bugs. Supposedly they have been corrected. If you don't have the newest iTunes release, download it from here, install it, and try again.

  • So how long does it take to load a 160GB iPod using the Convert Higher ...

I have a 160GB Gen 5 that I bought when first released back in the day when they were $400. Through a number of changes, the most recent being the advent of the Convert Higher Bitrate Songs to 128bit AAC feature, I decided to look at what more music I could store. After all was said and done, I ended up with a bit of a disaster with cover art not being properly applied to the music being played. I decided to *restore the ipod* based on suggestions in the discussion boards, and equally important was following the hints and tips here.
    http://www.samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp
The advice is especially important in very large library situations to ensure you have uniqueness in the albums you want to display. Hadn't really given it much thought until I had the ability to see the individual albums for the 40K songs on the iPod via the cover art view.
Finally the point of the post...
*So how long does it take to load a 160GB iPod using the Convert Higher Bitrate option now available in iTunes 9.1?* The specs on my computer are not highend by any stretch, but it's no slouch, and neither of the CPUs are ever pegged. At this point I've lost count of how much time it's taken, but the load is going on 3-4 days. With some breaks in between because I need to check each incremental load to verify there is no cover art corruption, correct bad tags and such, but for the most part the loading is visibly slow, and I'm sure the conversion is the cause. I'm not really complaining at this point, but there is clearly room for improvement. And of course unless there is a redo involved in which case I will get quite cranky.
*I would like to hear the experiences of others.*
Finally to lend a bit more credence to the performance concern, my 32GB iPhone 3GS for only about say 28GB of music takes about 24 hrs to load from a 2.2GHz dual core intel laptop, again using the convert higher bitrate option.

With AC power adapter it takes 3-4 hours for a full charge. With the USB charger it takes 9-0 hours for a full charge. I am not happy with them removing the AC charger and other accessoreis at all. It's business but it still stinks.
I know I would rethink my purchase but would most likely end up buying the Micro anyway

  • How do you convert songs ON the iPod to 128kbs?

There is an option to convert new songs I put on my iPod (3rd generation, 4GB) to 128kbs, but how do I convert the songs already on it? Many of them are 256kbs and I need the space, and can't tell the difference in quality. I have a large library on my computer so I manually manage my iPod library. "Updating" the songs by dragging them individually to the iPod isn't a realistic option since it would take forever, AND to add insult to injury it even removes the song from any playlist when you do this!
Ideally I would like a button in iTunes that would convert all my songs on my iPod to 128kbs, but what's the next best thing?
    null

If it matters, I should add that I have both Mac and PC, so if there's any iTunes plugin or external application available to do what I want, I will be able to run it.

"Convert" tends to be a confusing term. What iTunes does is make another copy of the track at the lower bit rate for transfer to the Shuffle. Your original, higher bitrate file remains untouched.
Actually, iTunes converts the track on-the-fly while loading it on the shuffle. NO copy of the downconverted track is kept. The same process will occur IF you decide to delete the track from the shuffle and then happen to want to put it on the shuffle again.

Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. Im sorry for the confusing topic im just so lost.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
    Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
    Now just synch the iPod.
