Convert ie favorites to safari 7 bookmarks

I'm on a new MacBook Pro, and love it.
I want to know how to convert the .url files which were IE 9 Favorites to Safari 7 Bookmarks. Import doesn't work.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Export your IE bookmarks to a USB thumb drive then connect the thumb drive to your Mac. The USB icon should appear on the desktop.
Launch Safari. From the Safari menu bar click File > Import Bookmarks then navigate to the USB drive.
If the USB drive does not appear on the desktop, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click File > Preferences then select the General tab.
Select:  External disks
Congrats on your new MacBook Pro!

  • Deleting Safari Bookmark Favorites with one key stroke

Just got a brand new MacBook Pro 15 in. with retina display...upon connecting to the WIFI that my old Toshiba laptop was connected to, my new Mac imported all this suff and filed it under my Safari Bookmark Favorites....I can delete them one by one, but it's too many to delete singularly. Is there a way to delete all that is in my Safari Favorites with one key stroke?

       Delete Safari .plist file.
Quit all applications. Click on an empty spot on the desktop to activate Finder.
Hold the “Option” key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select “Library” from the drop down.
       Library > Preferences >  com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click it and select  "Move  to Trash".  Close Finder window.
       Please don’t empty the Trash.
       Restart. Launch Safari.
      Test Safari.  Try editting bookmarks
       If this doesn’t help;
       Put back the com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”
Right click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.

  • How do I delete ALL Safari bookmarks?

I am currently using a MacBook Pro with OSX Lion 10.7.2 and Safari 5.1.2 and would like to know how to delete ALL Safari Bookmarks.
I have selected the various titles under Collections and selected all the bookmarks on the right and deleted these.  However, not that there is a Bookmarks section on the left just as there is a Collections section.  The bookmarks under this Bookmarks section are the one's I can't seem to delete all of without selecting each individually.  I believe these bookmarks might have been what was imported from my PC bookmarks when I converted.  However, I would like to be rid of them and there are a lot to remove.  It would be very nice if there were a less time consuming way to accomplish this task.  I've gone to find this plist file that I've seen mentioned in the support archives and I don't know if I don't understand the structure of Macs well enough but I can not find the plist to remove.
Please help!  I don't understand many acronyms and such that responses typically include so if you have a solution for me, please be very specific.
    Thanx

don't know if I don't understand the structure of Macs well enough but I can not find the plist to remove.
    Quit Safari.
Click a clear space on your Desktop. You'll see Finder top left corner of the screen.
From that menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this in exactly as you see it here:   ~/Library/Safari
That will open a Finder window for you.
Move the Bookmarks.plist file to the Desktop.
    Relaunch Safari.
That should remove all the Bookmarks from Safari.
If you want to re import those Bookmarks at some point, with Safari open, from the menu bar click File > Import Bookmarks.
BTW... when you are searching the Finder there are two libraries. One is root the other is user.
The    ~ (Tilde) character represents user:   ~/Library
    No tilde:  /Library     is root

  • Transfer Safari bookmarks to new MacBook Pro

I just got a new MB Pro yesterday and would like to transfer my bookmarks from my older SR MB. So I "exported" them to a jump drive and then transferred that file "Safari Bookmarks.html" to my new desktop. I then went into Safari and tried the "import" option. However, I get an message that says "can not import bookmarks. Unable to read any bookmarks in Safari Bookmarks.html.
I don't know why this process can't be simpler? I've had the same problems with Windows Bookmarks (Favorites) for years now. I did manage to drag the entire Safari Bookmarks folder on to the Bookmarks Bar, but all these bookmarks are in sub-folders under "Safari Bookmarks.html".

Move the file ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist over in the Finder, where ~ is the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.
First of all, when I export my bookmarks, the produced is called "safari bookmarks.html". Moving this file as per the about directions did not make Safari use the new bookmark list. I then tried renaming the file to bookmarks.PLIST and that didn't help either. I must be doing something wrong. Is it necessary to reboot for the change to take effect?

  • Is there a way to customize safari bookmarks' icons

I guess the question says it all.
I would like to customize the generic bookmarks' icons in the safari Favorites page.
    Any way to do that?

What do you mean by "customize"?
If you want to change the icon for a specifc bookmarked site in the Favorites list, then lizdance40 is correct.  There is no way to change a site to use a custom icon.
If you want to change which bookmarked sites appear in the list, then the answer is yes, you can change the list of sites that appears in the list as well the order that they appear.  To change which sites appear in the Favorites list, add bookmarks to or remove bookmarks from the Favorites folder by navigating to that folder in the Boomarks pop-over (tap the Bookmarks icon to the right of the address field, then tap the Bookmarks icon, then navigate to the Favorites folder, then tap the "Edit" button).  You can also open a new tab, then press-and-hold on one icon to move it to a new location.  Just drop it when it's in place.

  • Lost favorites in safari

I have been continually losing my Favorites in Safari.  They just seem to disappear every so often.  They were all there yesterday and today they are gone.  Any help would be appreciated.

It is a guess, but I suspect that syncing through iCloud is somehow clearing your favorites.
I would go to system preferences>icloud and uncheck safari. Then I would go to system preferences>internet accounts and highlight iCloud and uncheck safari (the order may need to be reversed.
This would, at least, remove a possible variable from the problem.
The bookmarks are stored in your home folder (~). ~library>safari> bookmarks.plist.

  • How to sync Safari bookmarks between various Macs?

I own a desktop iMAC and a Mac Book Pro, but most of my work is done in the iMAC, However, I'd like to sync my Safari bookmarks in my MBP in order to have the same bookmarks in it too.
Being a mobileme subscriber, I have set it up in the iMAC and the MBP to sync the Favorites too. But it doesn't seem to work as the bookmarks in my MBP are completely different from those which I'm after, i.e. the ones in my iMAC.
    Where am I going wrong?

    HI,
    Try MobileMe: Resetting sync data
Then open System Preferences / MobileMe - Sync
Select Bookmarks in the list and click Sync.

  • Make Safari bookmark show up like an iPhone app?

    Hi all,
Is there a way to make an Safari bookmark show up like an iPhone app? I'd like to set up a screen of just my very favorite bookmarks with their icons being the sites favicon. This would be a lot easier than going into Safari, open, a new page, and traverse to the desired bookmarks.
    Any info will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steven

With the website available that you want to create a web clip for - to appear as an icon on your iPhone's Home screen just like an app for faster access, at the bottom of the page select the + icon.
    The options are:
    Add Bookmark
Add to Home Screen - this is the one you want to select.

  • Problem managing Safari bookmarks

    Hey guys,
I've been having a problem relocatting my bookmarks in my bookmark bar. What I mean is: I created a new bookmark bar folder and put some bookmarks in it. I don't want it in the first place though, but every time I put it in the right order anyhow (even in the Show all bookmarks page (alt-Cmd-B)), they go back to the place they were, and with it go some other bookmarks. It gets very messy! Sometimes I get the error that it cannot be changed because it's synchronizing, so I even tried it without my wi-fi on, rebooting and all... But the next they the order is changed again! I've been trying to put it right (because now I have ALL the wrong bookmarks in the bar, and none of the really useful) for about one week now every single day and it doesn't seem to stay.
Deleting the folders with the bookmarks seem to work, but I need them, it's just not as important. Every time I try to add another folder/bookmark, same happens... So now I have a bookmark bar full of "useless stuff" and can't make it right!
What can I do? This is very unpleasant!
I'm using a MacBook Pro i7 2.7 GHz, with Mountain Lion OS, Safari version 6.0.
    Thank you!

I have an update but the problem is even more confusing to me now!
I have not synced bookmarks since getting the iphone originally, and at first when the sync seemed to fail, I was seeing what I thought were the older original bookmarks.  But I happened to notice that a file named PC Favorites had been placed in the Bookmarks Bar which contained all the Favorites from my old Dell PC--this was apparently transferred by the Apple Store when I first purchased my Mac Desktop and had them transfer all my files.  On inspection, the bookmarks on my iphone are identical to those in the PC Favorites file.  I did an experiment in which I altered the bookmarks on my phone by deleting some and then tried sync again--sure enough, I got back the complete "PC Favorites" set of bookmarks.  So the sync feature seemed to be working, just pulling the wrong set of bookmarks.  Next, I deleted (or so I thouhgt) the PC Favorites file since it is no longer relevant to me, and then tried another sync, thinking that the Safari bookmarks would now be transferred.  I got back the PC favorites even though I had deleted it.  Strangely, it did not appear as a Trash item when I checked after deletion, but I can't locate it in Finder anymore and it is no longer visible in Safari.  So I have to assume that the deletion of PC Favorites did not occur and it is lurking somewhere, being preferentially synced for some unknown reason.
Based on my lack of technical knowledge, I am guessing that there are any number of alternate explanations, but I am at a loss as to how to proceed now.  If anyone can shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it--but what I'm considering now is just waiting until I get an iPhone 4S soon and sync directly from my computer rather than transfer from my old phone.  If the problem persists, support will be covered with the new device.
Thanks for tolerating a couple of longer posts, and any info you might provide.

  • Problem Syncing Safari Bookmarks

I am trying to sync my Safari 5.1.1 bookmarks to my iPhone 3G using iTunes 10.5 (I do not have MobileMe).  I have tried checking the appropriate boxes in the iTunes Info page when my phone is connected to my Mac desktop (OS X 10.7.2), including the option to replace phone bookmarks with those on the computer.  These attempts have been unsuccessful.  All other items, such as songs, calendars, etc., sync successfully.  I have searched and found various bits of information regarding the deletion or moving of plists such as safari bookmarks plist or com.apple.safari.plist, but nothing seems quite current or directly applicable to my particular problem.  I am not very technically knowledgeable and do not want to do any irreparable damage.  Can anybody suggest a course of action for a cyberchallenged person like me with step-by-step instructions?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Deleting a Favorite in Safari

Go to safari and go to the book symbol in the top right-hand corner and your favourite will either be in your reading list, bookmarks or bookmarks bar and swipe and press delete.

  • Lost "Home" icon above Safari bookmarks bar

The "Home" icon in Safari on my wife's MiniMac (OS 10.4.5) has suddenly disappeared. The icon is a small house and is normally shown just above the Safari bookmarks bar, on the left, next to the forward and back URL buttons. Using Safari's Help page has not produced a solution.
Can anyone help me restore this feature?

    Grant,
Use Safari>View>Customize Address Bar...>Drag your favorite item into the toolbar...(Home)

  • IPhone sync alters desktop Safari bookmarks instead of copying unaltered?

I'm still using my iPhone 4 (I know, I know. . .) and in the past, my sync process has always simply copied whatever is current on my MacMini Pro desktop as a clone of that data to the phone. Just the other day, I deleted a folder of Safari bookmarks on my phone that I didn't want cluttering up my phone's browser, but a folder that I DO wish to keep on my desktop. Upon syncing, the desktop's bookmarks were altered to match the iPhone. I lost the most current version of that particular folder containing many Favorite sites, unfortunately.
I thought the iPhone was always a downstream servant to the desktop, but apparently not. I would like to force it to be that way if that is possible and learn how to turn off the flow of instructions from the phone to the desktop. Sorry if this is an obvious control tweak, but I was caught off guard by this.
    Thanks!
