Convert Illustrator text to path and use in Motion - How?

Can someone please list in steps exactly how I would type text in Adobe Illustrator and use that as a path in Motion to animate the writing of the font used. I am trying to understand how to have text written on like handwriting, but all the descriptions on the forums have fallen short of actually describing how this is done.
That's not what you want to do. Illustrator paths are too complex and convoluted. For instance, a capital "L" is not two strokes that form a right angle, it's six separate paths that are filled. If you could use the path in Motion, you would be tracing the lines that make up the letterform, not the letter itself.
I would do this with the write-on effect. It creates an animated brush stroke that is used as a mask.

1) to be able to set the font face of the destination file ( destFilename)
2) to be able to set the font size of the destination file ( destFilename)

We didn't say it doesn't work. We said it isn't supported.
There are a number of other ways to make a PDF. The one which would
give the most control is if your application directly printed to GDI,
controlling the font directly. This could print to Adobe PDF.
You could look for an application that gives control of font for
printing.
You could use a text-to-PostScript system and distill the result. You
could even look for a non-Adobe text-to-PDF.
Working in the unsupported and dangerous world you chose, the font
size for text conversion is set (and this is very bad design from
Adobe) in the settings for Create PDF > From Web Page. There is no API
to this.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/LaunchDaemons
In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
          com.something.daemon.plist
and
           com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
/Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
          com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
Open this folder:
/Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
           something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
Finally, in this folder:
/System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
            v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
          Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
          Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.

Find which screen, folder it was moved to, and hold down the icon until the icons start shaking. Then drag it to the left or right edge of the screen, and it will allow you to move it to which ever screen you want it. When you have it there, tap the Home button to stop the icons form shaking.

The ID for iTunes must be the same on both devices for it to automatically download purchases made on the other phone.
For example, if you have been using [email protected] for iTunes, continue to do so. One of you could also use [email protected] for their iCloud account and the other one use [email protected] for theirs, alternatively you could use [email protected] and [email protected] for the two separate iCloud accounts.

I have a feeling I am missing something when it comes to creating images in Illustrator by drawing paths with either the pen or brush tool, laying them on top of each other and then dividing them. As I know it's best that the edges of two objects meet in order to keep the file clean. I make use of the layers pallet by selecting objects there and deleting stray points and objects that are not needed after using the divide tool.
Is there another way to do this? Because it is soooo time consuming I am just wondering if there is a better way to keep the file clean. I am trying to build a small portfolio in order to start selling images so it is very important for the files to be well built. Everything I have read on the pathfinder tool and divide has been so simple. Is there another tool that I should be using? Is there a faster way to edit?

I am a little confused out dividing to make the file clean. As I understand divide splits overlapping areas so that artwork is no longer stacked.
In a sense this is destructive. If you have two circles overlapping, with pathfinder: divide, you end up with 2 circles with bites taken out, and a football:
It's true that there is no more hidden artwork, but you also have three objects instead of two. So one could argue that having two circles makes for a cleaner file (but I guess it's a matter of opinion)
The truth is most artwork is comprised of stacked objects. Many compound shapes allow underlying shapes to show through. If you were to divide the compounds you lose the information of the compound shape.
When artwork is stacked, some artwork below may be hidden. But this dimensional aspect allows you to move or reshape the objects on top later on, and what was hidden before may become visible. If it was all divided you would have to do a lot of adjusting.
Another approach to clean files is to make use of the appearance panel and pathfinder effects. Consider if you wanted a large red circle with a green donut on top. One catch - the center of the donut has to be white.
Most people would probably just draw 3 circles, one red, green next, and small white on top. But that's not a green donut, that's just 3 stacked circles.
Others might create a green compound donut, punch a hole through the red circle, allowing the white artboard to show through. But then, it's no longer a red circle. And you have two compounds.
Then somebody else will draw the green donut, and slap a white circle between the red circle and the green donut big enough to fill the hole. But now you've added another object.
There is a way to get the white hole, with no white objects, and the red circle intact. Refer to the attached file (CS4). By utilizing effects, you can make your art simpler and more elegant.

Can't paste text nor paths and text

What is wrong?
I have a layer with some paths and lines of text.
I copied some of the paths and text and tried to paste in another layer or document; the paths are not pasted and all the text becomes a single line.
When I copied only the paths, it is pasted correctly.
If I copied only the text and tried to paste in another layer or document, all the text becomes a single line.
If I drag the selection from one layer to another using the panel, it works. If I drag the selection from the artboard to another document, it works.
But these operations sometimes are not convenient.
What I would like is to copy the items, target a layer in another document and paste there.
With a large document with dozens of layers and a lot of text the drag and drop solution is not feasible.

You hit the nail on the head. The problem was the "FormatMatch" clipboard extension for Mac, that changes all copied text to plain text.

Created path and used trim but the line appears from the wrong side?

Hey,
I've created a rectangle by using the pen tool, then applied a stroke to it. I've then added "trim paths" and the end value at 0seconds is 0% and then at 5 seconds its at 100% however the line appears from the wrong side of the screen, basically it's reversed, yet the reverse path symbol is not ticked.
The line is meant to appear from left to right of the screen with a 2px stroke, which will then have a mask applied to show a large black box appear from this line and fill the rest of the screen up.
Anyone able to help me at all?

I was able to create a digital signature for my boss who's on vacation using his email address. I figured when I used the signature he would get some sort of email confirmation letting him know, but he got nothing. So it seems like I could create a signature for anyone and use it on any document without their knowledge. What's the protection against anyone creating a signature for anyone else and using it whenever?? Am I missing something??

A digital signature can not be used to verify someone's identity. I can create a signature using anyone's name and email address. In fact, those things are irrelevant to the signature. The only thing that matters is the key used to create it, and therefore to verify it.

Converting Illustrator documents to Indesign and back

For one of my client we want to try to use the new software for automatic artwork creation. At this moment this software is only capable of generating Indesign files. What we want to do is to create a template in Illustrator and export this document to an Indesign file. This Indesign file will be uploaded in the software.
So that client can add their own text. As soon as the file is ready, we will download this Indesign document. Once the finished document is downloaded we want to export the text layer back to illustrator and place this text layer into the original illustrator template, cause we want to deliver the files in Illustrator instead of Indesign.
Do you know if there’s a way to export Illustrator files to indesign without having to do a complete new layout in Illustrator?
COPY paste is not an option at this moment. I am looking for any script or pluging or any software which does it automatically.
Please let me know the possibilities.

Why the constant switched back and forth from Illustrator to InDesign?
Are you aware of Adobe InCopy? This is separate Adobe application that allows people without a copy of InDesign to edit elements of an InDesign document.

You won't need Illustrator at all.

When you are sending the final artwork to be printed you shouldn't be sending native files like Illustrator or InDesign.
You will be sending a PDF which will still retain all the text and drawn elements as vectors.
Pixel-based images will still remain pixels, but this is the same whether you use Illustrator or InDesign.

Help configuring adobe media server's apache to use UNC paths and use multible VOD directories

I am experimenting with v 5.03 for media server with look to upgrade our current pool of v4.x server to support ipads etc.
i have set the ams conf file and have in the past use a unc paths for my VOD_Dirs
eg

Cc text not displaying when using full motion recording

Hello everyone,
I wanted to find out if anyone has experienced a problem with
cc text not being displayed on slides with full motion recording.
I have added and sync'd the cc text on a slide that has full
motion recording. When publishing the file, no cc text appears in
the the published file.
Is there a workaround or a setting that I need to check to
ensure that the cctext shows up?
Any information which anyone can provide would be greatly
appreciated.

I'm having the same problem you were last year! Just wondered if you were able to find a workaround.
I have a full motion page with audio embedded in it (meaning that the audio does not show up as its own item in the timeline view). When I open the Advanced Audio Management dialog box, I'm not able to add a caption because CP4 doesn't think there's sound on this slide. (see attached screen grab -- the slide in question is slide 9. You see that the caption button is greyed out).
I've really hit a wall on this one today. I tried deleting the audio and re-adding it from the library, but it doesn't get added as an independent object in the timeline box; it just gloms onto the "captured animation" object.
Maybe it's simply not possible to have a closed caption on a FMR page? That doesn't seem right though.
