Convert InDesign document to Word

I am looking for a tool to covert an InDesign document to Word without losing the formatting....any suggestions?

If you simply want to retain the formatting of a story, choose File > Export > RTF and open in Word.
If you actually want to retain the layout of InDesign, the best choice will cost you a little bit of money. I haven't used it, but it's the best available: ID2Office from Recosoft:

Can I convert indesign 6 document to dreamweaver web page

As SnakEyes suggests, the short answer is, "no." The long answer is more complicated.
InDesign is a tool that provides you with desktop publishing, not web publishing. DTP tools let you choose fonts, precisely place graphics and photos, create columns with text that flows from one to the next and so on.
A website is completely different. Web browsers do not have access to unlimited typefaces and, while your digital font license does allow you to send typefaces to a printer, it typically does not allow you to send it to all web browsers accessing your website on the internet. And also not all browsers work with all types of fonts hosted on a server.
Text in browsers is rendered at screen resolution, which is typically 72 DPI. When you are setting up for a printer, you can access printers with 1200 and 2400 DPI, which is very high resolution. So your use of typefaces will, of necessity, be different for a website than it will be for print. We typically print for publications using serif typefaces for running text, as it helps the eye to flow to the next character and the next word. But since screen resolution is so low, we use sans-serif type for running text on a website because it will be more easily read than serif type on a low-resolution screen.
Layout options for print tend to be very precise. One may simply drag and drop an image and have text flow around it in a DTP application. There is no design application for website building that allows you to do that which also gives you clean HTML and CSS code. So, if you want anything near like the precision for a website that you are used to in the DTP environment, you're going to need to learn HTML and CSS.
Dreamweaver is a code-writing engine that has a display aspect that will let you see your design as you write the code. It also automates the production of a very limited amount of code, manages your links and will allow you to put your finished web pages on a server.
Microsoft allows you to export Excel and Word documents "as web pages" and the result is horrific. It can actually take more time to clean up the code produced by these Microsoft applications than it would be to simply create a website from scratch in Dreamweaver.
With In Design, the built-in HTML export is designed to extract content, not geometry. The end result of an export to HTML bears no resemblance to the original layout. The HTML exporter does allow the designer to attach external CSS and JavaScript files, but this assumes the designer is comfortable with code and has time to re-conceive the layout from scratch.
Now, you can use the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite to do the export. This ranges from about $400.00 to $100,000 plus usage fees. This price may be good for the New York Times, but not cost-effective for a single designer or a small shop. The output of the DPS is limited. It only outputs to tablet devices and the iPhone. It won't output to desktops or Android phones. Everyone who wants to see your publication has to sign up for an Adobe.com account, then they have to send you their email address associated with the account. You then have to add their email to a distribution list, tell them to download the Adobe Content Viewer to their tablet, and then look at your publication through the ACV. Or you can create an app that is a stand-in for the Adobe Content Viewer, like the New York Times did and then you have to pay Apple the iOS Developer fee.
Or, you can simply make a website that sticks to modern HTML and CSS standards.
I'm looking forward to Ken Binney's comments after he sees the code structure exported from InDesign.

  • Indesign documents to Word documents

    Hi
Im hoping someone can help me - I have made a masthead and a footer in indesign and now want to convert them to a word document. i have tried PDFing them and then cutting the image and pasting it as a footer but it goes all blurry and is unusable. Is there a way to use load an indesign a4 file in word?
    thanks for the help
    charlotte

You just want use this as an image without editable text in Word?
Best bet would be to export to PDF, then either rasterize that and save as TIFF from Photoshop, or try opening the PDF in Illustrator (actually, a .eps from exported from InDesign might work better in Illustrator), and save from there as .wmf, but don't expect miracles.

  • Converting PDF document to Word

Why I can't converd a PDF document to Word?

    Good day Scott,
I received your document via our File Conversion Issue form.  The root of the problem you're facing is the quality of the scan.  I'm not sure if you were starting with a poor quality hard-copy or simply low DPI settings on your scanner, but the reason the results you received were so different than the PDF was the quality of the input.
If you're hard copy looks clearer than the PDF file you created, I would suggest increasing the resolution settings on your scanner.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
    Kind regards,

  • Word 13 - Cannot convert ONE document from Word 10 Doc to Word 13 DOCX

All other docs work fine and have converted but one just will not convert.  What do I look for in the document?
They all have photos and I have made them small resolution so as not to use too much space.

    Hi,
How did you convert the .doc file to .docx file? Did you get any error message?
To convert the .doc file to .docx, just open it with Word 2013, then click
FILE tab -> Save As -> choose the path where you want it to be saved, click
Browse -> Beside Save as type, choose
Word Document (*.docx), enter the File name, click Save.
If I misunderstood anything, feel free to let me know.

  • Converting older documents to Word or Pages

I have a number of documents from my high school, college, and graduate school days, all of which are saved in various formats. Some are compatible with Pages and Word, others require a bitttf work to get open and saved, so I can work with them using current software. Presently, two formats that have been giving me the most trouble are leftovers from Appleworks 5 and another word-processing app'm not sure of, possible WordPerfect. When I try to open the Appleworks 5 documents, I get a message telling me Pages is not compatible with this version of Appleworks. I do have Appleworks on my computer, but because I have upgraded to Lion, it no longer works. Any ideas there?
The other format giving me trouble simple shows up in the Finder as a Unix Executable File. I have no idea what that means, nor what to do with it. Can any of you help me out? Thank you!

The AppleWorks documents you will have to reopen in AppleWorks 6 and convert to AppleWorks 6 docs.
AbiWord (free) will open WordPerfect documents and you can resave them to .doc files to open in Pages.
Keep in mind you are heading into another possible deadend with Pages. Nothing else reads .pages files.

  • How to convert emailed document to word?

I emailed myself a word document that I need to convert so I can edit it, how do I go about doing that from outllook express?

    Hello Dave,
You'll want to take a look at the
Open XML SDK. The Open Specifications forums are here to support the
Open Specifications documents, and we also support questions about the Office file formats governed by ISO/IEC 29500. If you have specific questions about a file format, this is the right place to ask. For questions about programmatically manipulating documents
using the Open XML SDK, the best place to ask is the
    Open XML SDK forum.
