Convert InDesign ME file to English?

Hi,
I received an InDesign (Middle Eastern Edition) file from a client. Since I only have the English version of InDesign, I can't edit the text and story direction (see this blog post). Is there a way to convert this file?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

You shouldn't have a problem viewing or editing the text. But to use middle eastern features (like paragraph and character direction) you will need to purchase a plugin that gives you access to those features on the English version.
In-tools.com has a plugin called WorldTools that does this.

  • Saving previously converted InDesign CS1 files in CS3

My company recently upgraded from CS1 to CS3 (skipping CS2 altogether). I've noticed that after I open some CS1 layouts previously converted to CS3, when I hit <Save>, I get a <Save As> type dialog box where I either have to rename the file, or overwrite the file. This doesn't happen with layout files created originally in CS3. Is there some setting in CS3 that is constantly forcing this <Save As> type behavior on previously converted CS1 layouts? It's more of an inconvenience, than an actual problem, but annoying nonetheless.

I understand converting/re-writing the file format to the updated (in this case, CS3) format, and am well used to this process from older InDesign file formats. What I'm experiencing is this: (1) I open up a CS1 layout file in CS3; (2) CS3 converts the layout; (3) I go to Save the file & CS3 prompts me with a <Save As> type dialog box; (4) I then either overwrite the existing CS1 layout file, rename the new CS3 layout or save it to a new location; (5) I close out the new CS3 layout. This is all expected behavior. However, when I go back later to re-open the newly "converted" CS3 layout file, the first time I go to <Save> the new changes to the file, I'm AGAIN prompted with a <Save As> type dialog. The file's already been converted to the CS3 format, so shouldn't it just automatically <Save> the file changes in a normal manner?

  • How to convert InDesign CS2 files for editing in CS5 (win)

We are a small publishing company with several top-selling language products. I need to revision a title which was published 10 years ago. The files are CS2 and I cannot open them in CS5. Seem Adobe doesn't offer any conversion utility. It seem I need to open them in CS3 then save and use CS4 to convert from CS3 to CS4, then I can use CS5. But I cannot find CS3 for sale anywhere. So I'm screwed. Please offer a file conversion service. It's just code! you can run the old versions on virtualized servers and charge $500 per file. I'll pay! I'm totally screwed. We have to recreate the entire book from scratch. I used to be an Adobe promoter, but now I'm a detractor. this is horrible.
Does anyone have old versions around could be used to get this job done?
    Cheers!

OK this is seriously messed up. I just spent the day installing trial versions of InDesign CS3 and CS4 (on a Windows Virtual PC running Windows XP) and converted my files from CS2 to CS3, then C3 to CS4. But when I try to open in CS5, they still crash InDesign CS5! Something is corrupt or incompatible with InDesign CS5 even though they opened in CS3 and CS4. wtf.
Guess I'll just have to edit in CS4 and give up on bring these files any closer to the modern world? Any other ideas?

  • Converting InDesign CS3 files to Word Files

I am running InDesign CS3 and I need to know the best way to convert an InDesign document to a Word Document 2003.

You might try printing the ID file to PDF, then exporting the PDF from Acrobat to Word. There are still some issues, but Acrobat 8 does a fair job of retaining the formatting and styles. This assumes, of course, that you have Acrobat 8...

  • Acrobat and InDesign CS5 file issue

    Hi everyone...
My issue is that Acrobat won't or can't convert InDesign CS5 files. It opens Illustrator and Photoshop and converts them to pdf's but not InDesign.
I've tried everything. I've even tried Adobe tech help. No luck. It was a relatively easy procedure in CS4, not to mention a time saver.
Is there someone that knows how to resolve this? Please help as I'm desperate to avoid having to convert all my InDesign files one at a time.

    Hi Matthew-
Our workflow often involves combining multiple IND files into a pdf.  With CS4, we merely opened acrobat, clicked "Merge Files into a Single PDF" and dropped in the indesign files we wished to combine. Presto- we had one PDF with all IND files put together without having to go through indesign.
In response to your post, I only have CS5 installed, and it seems as though Acrobat doesn't recognize ID CS5 as a program at all.   I believe I am current on all InDesign and Acrobat 9 updates to date - I'm running InDesign7.0.2 and Acrobat 9.3.4.
When trying to open IND files through Acrobat, Acrobat launches and gives an error message that states: "Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer."
Acrobat can't call InDesign CS5 to open at all.  Could this be because Acrobat was not updated along with the CS5 suite and therefore doesn't recognize the new CS5 Indesign files?
I read another blog that mentioned it could be a registry problem- they ran CCleaner and ran the registry fix.  Then uninstalled and reinstalled both Acrobat and Indesign.  What are your thoughts on this method?  It's hard for me to try this on my own, as it requires an administrative login- our IT department has us locked out.  I would like another opinion before I ask them to help.
Do you forsee a fix from Adobe in the future?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Batch Convert InDesign Files to PDF: Acrobat 9 Pro Opens CS3

A question came up in the InDesign forum about batch converting InDesign files. I've never really needed to do it but I was aware of the batch convert command. The OP reported errors so I tried it myself and while it worked, for some reason Acrobat 9 Pro is opening InDesign CS3 even though I have CS4 and CS5 installed.
I can't seem to find any way to change the default for INDD files. I tried launching ID CS5 first, but Acrobat still launched ID CS3. If I double click an INDD file in Windows Explorer, it opens in CS5 so the operating system has the default correct.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Thanks,
I just found that out, too.
What I'd like to find out is how to fix this.

How can I convert a .pdf file to an Indesign CC file which is editable?

    Hi btacme,
I understand there are some third-party utilities that will allow you to convert a PDF to an InDesign file. But, as PDF is intended to be a final format, Adobe doesn't offer this capability. Are you unable to make the edits that you need by opening the PDF in Acrobat?

  • Is there a way that you can convert a pdf file into a InDesign 5.5 file

I know I can save an indesign file to a pdf and convert to powerpoint from there, but not everything translates. Drop shadows, some dingbats, and some text formatting do not translate, so I have to edit within powerpoint.
I read about a plugin called ID2Office v2.0. Has anyone heard of it or used it?
    Thanks!

    Hello
I represent Recosoft. We make ID2Office (http://www.recosoft.com/products/id2office). This exports/converts InDesign CS5-CC 2014 files to PowerPoint, Word and Keynote formats. You can view the Youtube video I've posted below how it converts the file:

  • Indesign PDF convertable to .jnt file?

I have a client who wants me to convert all my Indesign PDF files to .jnt files so they can be viewed in Microsoft Journal on a tablet. I am not sure if this is possible (I don't think it is). I converted the Indesign PDF to a .JPG and .PNG file so they can maybe insert it in as picture in Microsoft Journal and then save it as a .jnt file. I don't have a tablet and I don't have Microsoft Journal. I do have Acrobat X and am wondering if maybe I can save it as an .xml 1.0 maybe?
Why would anyone want to do this anyway? These PDF files were originally created to go to a print shop to be printed and are not intended to be viewed on a tablet. Is my client essentially asking me to recreate the file on a tablet (in Microsoft journal) just so I can save it as a .jnt file? It is a complex form with check boxes, graphics, etc.
    Help!

    I don't think it's a feasible workflow and can't find a converter online.
Best to supply a PDF and have them view it in Acrobat Reader 9 or later.
If they can't work with that  - then providing instructions for inserting in Windows Journal would be better.

  • Converted InDesign file for smaller .pdfs

A year ago I created an InDesign file that, when I open it the words - 125%(converted), are added to the name of the file (after the .indd). You can't see - @125% (converted), in the file name when the file is closed.
Does anyone know how I must have created this, "converted" file?

It's been created with an older version, that's all. The text in the title is there to remind you.
If you need to know what it was created with, open the document, hold Apple (presumably -- on the Windows vs it's Control), and select "About InDesign". There it shows the full document history.

  • Convert a PDF File to an Indesign File

Can I convert a PDF File to an Indesign file.
    Yvonne

Another way is to use Acrobat's built in conversion to Word or rtf and import that back into InDesign.
Either way, remember that PDF is a final form file format in which the original layout program docment's contexts such as what is an article, frame, paragraph, sentence, etc. are not maintained. All PDF maintains is content at a particular position on a particular page. As such all attempts to return such content to an editable format achieves somewhat mixed results.

how do I convert a Pages file (a form) into another programme like Word or InDesign? I do not have Pages

In OS X Pages '09 v4.3, do not be tempted to File > Save... copy as Word document. Instead, you want to export (or Share as Mail), both the PDF and the Word Documents.
If you choose Share > Send as Mail > PDF (and/or Word), make sure that in Apple Mail, that your composition window has Send Windows-Friendly Attachments selected. You can enable this from the paper-clip icon on the Mail composition window toolbar.

    Hi,
What product are you using? Are you using Adobe CreatePDF service that you can access at https://createpdf.acrobat.com? Can you please send me your PDF file at [email protected]? I'll give it a try. And you may also post your question on CreatePDF discussion forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/createpdf?view=discussions.
