Convert Keynote slideshow to MPEG

Hi,
For my grandma's 80th birthday, I created a slideshow in Keynote. Everybody loved it (hooray Apple!) and wants a copy, so I tried exporting the slideshow as a movie.
But Keynote exports the slideshow into 2 files - the movie and the audio track, both in .mov format. I'd like to combine the 2 into a single file.
Also, the final output should be in MPEG format so that my relatives can view it in Windows Media Player without having to download and install Quicktime. Yes, I know.. I tried to enlighten them, but it would be easier teaching an old dog new tricks than to teach my very unsavvy relatives.
So, what's the best way to combine the 2 Keynote .mov files into a single MPEG (or other WMP-friendly) format? The best solutions for me will involve iMovie, or Quicktime Pro, or open source programmes like ffmpegX.
Thanks for your help in advance!
iBook G4 14"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hi Kyn,
So I've had more time to play with the video and I managed to combine the audio and video tracks in Quicktime with the copy and paste technique you mentioned.
Now I need to convert it to mpeg format so that it will play easily on Windows. (The video is for my grandma, she needs it to be accessible as possible.) I've tried using ffmpegX (http://homepage.mac.com/major4) but mpeg encoding fails constantly.
Could it be my settings? I'm making a 800x600 movie. ffmpegX tells me that my best bitrate setting is 6000kbps. I've left it at NTSC framerate (29.97). Is that way too much?
Anyway else I can convert the video to mpeg? Thanks.

  • Converting a Keynote slideshow into a QT movie

Ok, I've got a nicely made keynote presentation with precisely timed events where text appears and the slides fade from one to the other. When I do the QT export it moves at a totally unacceptable snail's pace. A 10 minute Keynote slideshow was still running after over an hour of tedious transition. What am I doing wrong??

I just did a sample presentation using 5 slides to see the results. When I exported the file as QT self-playing movie using the standard of 5 sec slide duration and 2 seconds for build duration the movies was 25 seconds. When I lowered the slide duration to 3 seconds and kept the build duration at 2 seconds, the resultant movie was 10 seconds faster at 15 seconds.
Going into Custom and altering the FPS, and compression formats from H264 to Video or JPEG Movie did NOT alter the length of the QT output movie at all.
So, I think if you lower the slide duration to 3 seconds , you should get a significant improvement. I hope this helps

  • CONVERTING KEYNOTE FILES TO IMOVIE FILES

HI HOW DO YOU CONVERT KEYNOTE FILES TO USE IN IMOVIE AND THEN BURN TO DISC SO YOU CAN WATCH THE MOVIE ON TV.
    THANKYOU

Thanks! I'm still not sure if Quicktime Pro for Windows will do the trick. I'm not too fluent in file names, but I think what I've got is in a "VOB" format, created with some app on a Windows machine. I have iMovie on my Mac, which is where I'd like to work on the file, however, I'm not sure if getting Quicktime Pro, or, as you've suggested, MPEG Streamclip and the Apple MPEG-2 Playback Component will get the job done converting my Windows file to an iMovie compatible format. Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks again

  • Converting a Slideshow to a movie

I recently made a slideshow in Encore and now I would like to convert the slideshow into a movie that I can download to a picture/video sharing site.
Is there a way to convert a slideshow into a movie?
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
    Jeff

    Jeff,
What version of Encore are you using? That might allow for other options.
One method would be to Delete anything but the SlideShow, set that to Play First and do a Save_As, renaming the Project. You could then Build to Folder, and change the file extension of the resultant VOB to MPEG. You should not need to rip that, as there is no real navigation, and no Menus.
If you have a later version, you could Build to a Flash Project, and probably use that.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Convert WMV files to MPEG  and/or  get Quicktime plug-in for WMV and AVI

    Hi Apple experts,
I need to convert some WMV files to MPEG format or something that will play natively on a Mac in QuickTime or iTunes.
I was advised that the VLC app that will convert WMV to MPEG4?... but the page at the URL below indicates that this version of VLC is a player and does not say anything about converting WMV to MPEG...
    http://vlc-download.com/download-vlc/?gclid=COrY_NKghKYCFQN7gwoduQy4qA
I would like to convert WMV files to MPEG so they will play in QuickTime or in iTunes on a Mac by just double-clicking them... for family members with Macs like me.
I am working on a PC where I am right now, but I have Macs at home and at work. I am on a PC for the time being at a friends place and I've produced a few .wmv files in Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. (Sorry Steve, it's just for a test).
QuickTime will not play WMV files, nor AVI files, but it indicates that it can use a plug-in to do so, but the QuickTime webpage for plug-ins that it takes me to doesn't have any plug-ins for WMV or AVI format files.
Of course the Windows Media Player plays the WMV and AVI files, but is there also a way to make them play in QuickTime or iTunes besides converting them?
    Thanks so much,

    Hi QTKirk,
I would like to be able to just give my family these files on a CD for high-res viewing on a computer, in addition to the DVDs that I have made for their TVs.
Since I don't control what they install on their computers, they don't necessarily have Flip4Mac on their Macs like I do... I just want them to be able to play MPEGs from a file on a CD or on their hard drives by simply double-clicking them.
After working with the recommended VLC player that also allegedly converts WMV files to MPEGs, for 8 hours, I have a result with the 7th attempt that mimics the worst kind of modern digital art that I've ever seen... I wish I could plug in the screenshot of the MPEG video that VLC produced... completely useless garbage.
Are there any other suggestions for a converter that simply handles converting WMV to any kind of MPEG file?
FFE was going to be the one that I tried until I read a post about VLC... that turned out to be a waste of 8 hours of sleepless time.

  • ITunes 11 has converted some songs to Quicktime movie format. How can I convert them back to MPEGs? format

iTunes 11 has converted some songs to Quicktime movie format. How can I convert them back to MPEGs?

I didn't mess with the iTunes Media folder previously, so I don't think that was the cause. Anyway, I manually fixed most of the songs, but I still can't figure out how to fix the movies that became listed as songs.
Here is a screenshot of what it looks like when I click on "Get Info" for one of the movies (which has ended up in the music section on iTunes):
There is no option to change the media kind to "movie" or "video" even though it is a movie and it still plays as a movie if I press play.

  • How do I make a Keynote slideshow controllable in an iDvd DVD?

How do I make a Keynote slideshow controllable on an DVD made with iDVD? And how do I make the slideshow completely auto with no return to a theme. I want people to be able to start the slideshow when they insert the DVD (no theme) and advance through the Keynote slide show (with all transitions, etc.,) by pressing a button on the remore controller to show eack slide - and advance at their option. Then they should have the option to repeat the slide show. Currently, the slideshow plays all the way through - and then pops into a theme intro - which I don't want. I thought it was set to run without a theme with my setting in the "Map" menu.I have exported a Quicktime version of the slideshow from Keynote which is completely controllable (slide by slide) on my MacBook Pro, but just runs straight through from an iDVD DVD. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help which I badly need...

    Burning Keynote presentations in iDVD
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2936
    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!

  • Converting Keynote to pdf

I regularly convert files to pdf before sending to clients so that they have an uneditable version and so they can see the slides (since most have Powerpoint, not Keynote on their pc's). Converting Keynote to pdf causes a huge increase in file size and results in files too large for most corporate email systems to accept. When I zip the pdf it decreases in size only marginally. I have generated pdfs both from the print to and the export to functions and both have the same result. Anyone with any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forums!
If you are running OS X Tiger, you can try this:
    - Choose the Print menu item
    - In the Print Dialog box, use the "Copies and Pages" dropdown menu to select the "ColorSync" menu item
    - In the panel that pops up, in the Quartz Filter dropdown menu, choose "Reduce File Size". This will reduce the resolution of the images in the file (including things like the background), and so can greatly reduce the size of the file.
    - Once this item is selected, use the Print Dialog PDF dropdown menu to create the PDF
Unfortunately, Leopard has done away with the Quartz Filter options in the Print Dialog. However, if you are running Leopard, another option may be to export the presentation as images (you can control the quality, and therefore file size, of JPEGS), and then use Preview to gather those separate images into a multipage PDF.

  • Converting iPhoto slideshow to DVD

I have created a slideshow in iPhoto consisting of appproximatly 150 images. I have used the ability to set the display time for each image to coordinate the images with the audio. Playing the resulting slideshow in iPhoto is great. I want to convert this slideshow to a DVD. Using the "Send to iDVD" option, the slideshow is first converted to a QuickTime .mov file and then automatically imported to a iDVD project, which is a nice feature. The problem is that during the conversion to QuickTime, the images and audio become 'out of sync'. Specifically the images progress slightly faster in QuickTime than in iPhoto. The slideshow, for my purposes, becomes degraded because of this anomaly. I am using the latest versions of iPhoto and QuickTime as of this writing (07/29/06).
Is there a way to compensate for QuickTime changing the display times of the images? If not, are there third party software applications (Adobe?) that can take an iPhoto slideshow and convert to DVD without having to go through QuickTime?

  • Keynote Slideshow displays in reverse sequence

Why does my Keynote slideshow display the slides in reverse order from the order in which placed them?
I have burned 3 CDs with the same result that shows the slides in reverse order. During last September I bought my iMac and the following week I put together a slides show in Keynote for a presentation for my wife. It turned out beautifully.
After not using Keynote since, last week I put together another slideshow of a two week trip and burned CDs. Although I put it together in the same way that I had done with the September slideshow, the slides were shown in reverse order - the one that was placed first was shown last and the one that was placed last was shown first.
What has caused this to reverse the order? What can I do or not do to make sure that the correct order in which I have placed the slides is preserved?
    Thanks for your help.

I'm having this issue as well (same issue that Keynote is the problem)

  • Merging two separate Keynote slideshows

Is there a way to merge two Keynote slideshows into one slideshow? I'm a fairly new Mac user and don't know how to do many technical things with Keynote...
    Thanks for any assistance.

Sorry, do you mean a slide show narration? That will be tricky I suspect. You may need to merge the two audio files but I'm not sure how exactly you go about that. I imagine you would have to locate the narration files (they will be in the keynote package), merge them together and save back into the 'single' version of the keynote presentation.
Searching for narration in this forum will give you the name of the file you are looking for. You'd probably use something like Garageband to edit the two together. Hopefully someone else can help with exact instructions.

how do i convert a slideshow made in premiere elements 11 to premiere elements 12

Given that you have Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 12 on the same computer....
    1. Know the name of the Elements Organizer 11 catalog (See Elements Organizer 11 File Menu/Manage Catalogs/Catalog Manager).
    Close out of there.
    2. Open the Elements Organizer 12, accessed from Premiere Elements 12.
    3. In the Elements Organizer 12, go to File Menu/Manage Catalogs/Catalog Manager and click on the Convert button in the Catalog Manager dialog.
    4. In the Convert Catalog dialog that appears, look for the name of your Elements Organizer 11 catalog, select it, and then hit the Convert command at the bottom of that Convert Catalog dialog.
    5. From that point onward, follow the messages that you get from the program. (If you have any problems, I will go into deeper details.)
When all is done, you will have your Elements Organizer 11 catalog opened in Elements Organizer 12 where it will remain in use until you switch to another catalog there. Your Elements Organizer 11 will remain as it was in Elements Organizer 11. Moving forward, what you do in the converted catalog in Elements Organizer 12 will not affect the Elements Organizer 11 and vice versa.
Please let us know if you are OK with the above and if it worked for you.
    Thank you.

  • Quality QuickTime from Keynote slideshows?

The playback of the Keynote slideshow looks great. But how does one share this with other PC notebooks on the sales force? We've tried exporting to QuickTime, but there are occasional hesitations of action in the QT playback (like a fraction of a second) plus some resolution loss. That's enough to lose the professional gloss one wants for presentations.
Has anyone conquered this challenge of distributing excellent copies of Keynote slideshows to multi-PC users?
    Thanks!!
    Bob

I played with the export settings and created a Quicktime Movie. The generated Quicktime movie came out really nice, smooth transitions and all. I would love to share it with you, but at 344 Mb it is a bit heavy for the internet.
It might take some trial and errors to come to the best result, but it is possible and not that complicated.
