Convert labview 5 llb to 8.6

Could someone please convert this library (apparently from Labview 5) into a format compatible with Labview 8.6?  Also, if it is possible to download labview version 8.2 (so I can do these conversions myself without bothering anyone) that would be great too.  I've tried accessing some links but get am denied access.  From reading prior posts, this is not uncommon.
Many thanks for any help you can provide!

  • Is it possible to convert LabView data into OLE variant?

Hi. I'm using Activex Data Objects (ADO) to communicate with MySQL. Some ActiveX methods give OLE variant output, with "Variant Type" like "VT_ARRAY|VT_UI1", "VT_UI1" or "VT_BSTR". With some deduction and trial and error is relatively simple to extract data from this OLE variants and convert them to LabView data types. The problem is when I try to input variant data to some ActiveX methods, it almost always give me errors, I suppose because it expects the same type of the outputs, this is: OLE variants. Now, the question is: ¿Is there any way to convert LabView data into OLE variant data? ¿How?
I've been searching and found a lot of posts about problems when passing variant data into ActiveX, saying that sometimes SAFEARRAYs are needed, sometimes saying that there were some bugs in LV6, giving some workarounds to this bug and saying that it is fixed in LV7.1, but the supposed workarounds don't work and the bug is still present in LV7.1, if it is really a bug.
I think that if I could put LV data into OLE variant shape I may find an answer and solution to this matter.
    Thank you

Below I describe how to handle OLE Variants, but I wanted to mention that LabVIEW does have a Database Connectivity toolkit (http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/6429) that has already created a set of VIs for ADO. You might check that out first.
However, handling OLE Variants in LabVIEW is automatic. LabVIEW itself has a variant datatype. When you use the ActiveX property or invoke nodes and one of the parameters is an OLE Variant, it is automatically converted to a LV Variant. You can then use the LV Variant VIs (such as "Variant to Data" and "To Variant").

  • How to convert LabVIEW 2.2 for Mac to PC

Need to convert labview software from MAC to PC.
Moved files from mac to pc. No files with .vi extension. several resource.frk files in sub directories. Is there any instructions for conversion or is this not possible?

I've heard of people doing this before. It's been a couple of years but the process involved going from LV 2 to 3 on the MAC. Then from 3 MAC to 3 LV. Then use the LabVIEW converion kit. You may be able to bypass the 2 to 3 on MAC step.
From my understanding you can open LV 4 and onwards VIs with LV 6. Here's a Knowledgebase entry you might find useful:

  • What is the eaisest way to convert an LLB to new labview version?

I have an insturment driver LLB that is a total mess now.
It started out as a LV 5.11 LLB
I am working in LV 8.5 now and LV 8.5 will not open code written in LV 5.11 (Too old)
I have tried to mass compile it in LV 8.2 but I still am running in to VI's in the LLB that are too old for LV 8.5 to open.
That means they are still in LV 5.11.
Do I really have to open each and save every single VI in the LLB in LV 8.2 to be able to use it in LV 8.5?

    Dennis Knutson wrote:
I was able to mass compile it. I did notice that you did not include the hp34970u.llb. Did you point to this during the mass compile. Also, this llb is long obsolete. There is a nice, modern 8.5 project style driver available as well as a plug and play driver. Why do you even need to convert this?
I have mass compiled it with out errors too, but it seems like it was not really compiled as I still keep running into vi's in it that were still in 5.11.
I have a decade (or more) of 5.11 code that I am maintaining and upgrading when I have a chance.
Production test is still coding and deploying LV 5.11
I have tried the newer version of the 34970A driver but it is missing some of the vi's that many of our 5.11 codebase uses so is is not a drop in replacement for upgrading code.
Here is the "u" llb too, I forgot to attach last time

  • Convert VI llb from LabVIEW 5 for use in LabVIEW 8.6

    Hi Everybody!
Firstly, I'd like to say how much I have enjoyed working for NI and especially supporting the online community in my spare work time. I have to say it is a great place for NI, long term users, new users and everything else LabVIEW - and you guys have fun! Excellent.
I am now back at university and I am looking to use LabVIEW for some robotic work. During my research I have found some manufacturer's VIs for the hardware: however their 'latest' version appears to be in LabVIEW 5.
Would someone be so kind to convert my VIs into at least LabVIEW 6, or up to LabVIEW 8.2.1 (Last version that can open LabVIEW 5 VIs) that would be great. My LabVIEW 8.6 should be able to open VIs saved in LabVIEW 6 or greater. (Obviously not LabVIEW 2009!)
Reference: How to Upgrade or Revert a VI to a Different Version of LabVIEW
Thanks ever so much in advance (I miss the day I had every version of LabVIEW - and NI software on my machine!)

  • Is it possible to run a LabVIEW LLB from Version 8.6.1 on a Version 8.6 platform?

We need to move a Version 8.6.1 LLB to a Version 8.6 platform. Assuming our 8.6.1 LLB does not use any 8.6.1 specific features, can I convert it to run under LabVIEW 8.6? Thanks!

    TCPlomp wrote:
One thing as a tip, don't usean LLB as a way to develop VIs in. Only use them for distributing code. If one of your VIs become broken, your whole LLB will be broken.

Actually this is not entirely true. The VIs itself are independant entitities in an LLB, so the brokeness of one of the VIs does not automatically have any influence on other VIs inside that LLB.
That said, the VIs do get written to the LLB individually, and although writing changes to an LLB is always done on a shadow copy of the LLB, which only replaces the original LLB AFTER the writing has been finished without any errors, there is of course always a chance that writing of a VI itself goes havoc in some ways. This could in principle destroy the integrity of the LLB data structure, and in such a way make the LLB as whole inaccessible. But because of the shadow copy technique it is a rather seldom event.

  • Need to convert labview files from version 4.0 to 8.6

I have a few labview .iv files that I need to convert to version 8.6.  They were created in version 4.0.  Can I download an intermediate verison of labview to process the conversion?  Or can i order a cd?

Typically, you would need access to several version of LabVIEW to do the conversion.
Open the 4.0 VI in 5.1, save.
Open the 5.1 VI in 7.1, save.
Open the 7.1 VI in 8.6, save.
This example uses the most popular versions - ones you are most likely to encounter. 6.i was also popular, and might work somewhere in there.

  • I try to convert LAbview 2.2 VI to Labview 3.1 for MAc using the conversion Kit. Labview 3.1 mass compile cannot find several VI like "open file, open folder, wait(ms), al_config"e.t.c. How can I manage this problem?

It looks like Labview 3.1 has different names for these VI.

It has been a very long time since I worked with such an old version but version 3 was a major upgrade that made the MAC and Windows versions much more compatible. One of the changes was to make the VI names the same on both platforms and another was to make the locations the same (i.e. the name of the llb that the functions were stored in. You should be able to find the equivalent functions in 3.1. Open the app in 3.1 and when prompted to find a VI, browse around until you find it. If you have a list of the VIs that couldn't be found, before opening the old app, create a new VI. Use the palette to find the functions and place them on the diagram. Then, when you open the old VI, those functions with the same name will get replaced by the new ones. For ones w
hose name changed, you'll have to manually replace those one by one. I also seem to remember a compatibility llb that was available back then. It was a set of VIs that was not part of version 3. I have no clue as to whether it's still available from NI and whether it included everything you might need. The good news is that once you're past this conversion, upgrading becomes a lot easier.

  • How to convert Labview 9.0 vi files to 7.1 vi files?

Hi, I have a set of LabView 9.0 .vi files that I need to convert to 7.1 .vi files, but the current LabView 9.0 version only allows me to save it to 8.0 version. Thus, my questions are:
    1) Can a user with LabView 7.1 open 8.0 files?
    2) If not, is there any other way to convert 9.0 files straight to 7.1 files?
    Many thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    It requires two steps.
You need to open the VI's in LV 2009 and do a Save for Previous version back to LV 8.0
Then open that in LV 8.0 and do a Save for Previous back to LV 7.1.
If you don't have LV 8.0, then you can post the files to the downconvert thread and request there that they be converted to LV 7.1

  • How to output data when converting labview vi into matlab mex functions

    Hi,
I am a fairly new user to labview and am currently working on labview
7.1. I have created a labview vi which can extract data from ni daq
6070e in real time. The problem is that this code has to be converted
so that it can be used with matlab.in order to do that i am using math
interactive tool kit which converts the labview code into mex files
which can then be used in matlab. Unfortunately i have not been able to
figure out how to output this data so that it can be processed in
matlab easily. i cannot afford any loss of information and all the
output must happen in real time. the o/p must take place after the fft
has been done. i am attaching the vi for convenience. There are 10
broken wires ,and this is the place where i want the o/p to be
    generated.
Also do let me know if this vi can be further improved.

    Manuj,
You seem to have misunderstood the way in which LabVIEW processes data.  The code that you have produced will run in exactly the same way without the need for the case structure.
The code does not actually run the data from the previous case. It is merely processing data from the previous loop iteration, regardless of the case. If you were to remove the case structure, leaving only one copy of the code intact, and remove the toggle switch you have produced, or used the shift register which, I assure you would have worked, then you will have exactly the same functionality.
I have attached an example that uses the shift register to toggle cases, but also iterates that the case structure is not needed by using the same feedback node (and code) without a toggle switch or case structure.
Hope this helps you optimize your code
