Convert live trace object to gradient mesh? Help please! :)

Does anyone have advice on turning a live trace object into a gradient mesh? Or some sort of workaround? We love the live trace tool, but cannot get the mesh to apply to it unless created by the pen tool first. Thanks for any help, using CS5.

Yes Monika has this right.
Ths is wha will happen toyour rt if you are first sucessful in creating shapes and then if you are successful in converting to gradient mesh.
You willlose your strokes and some of your strkes will be in part filed objects.
Best to do the live trace for the ink work and the gradient mesh as separate shaphes, but I do not think it is ncessary to lose you strokes by using tham ads clipping paths I think simply placing the gradient mesh objects behind the line work will do the trick.

Gradient Mesh Help Please

I am struggling to control the gradient mesh tool. I can't reposition anchors on the edge without reshaping the object. When I use the tool (not generating from the objects menu) it feels like a craps shoot. I never know where the mesh will intersect the edge of the object and I can't change it when it's there.
I've been looking for instructions for this online for days, but I can't find anything. I must have watched a dozen tutorials hoping they would explain it.

How to create a live trace object with transparent background?

Hi, I am trying to create a live trace object of my logo in ai. The logo is coming from photoshop on a transperent background, and it is all black. What I want to do is to bring it into ai and make it an object for obvious reasons. The problem I have had is that when I live trace it, the live trace leaves a white background which then overlaps with other objects in my ai file. Is there a way to live trace while preserving the transparent area or possibly better, to not include white space in the live trace? Thanks in advance!

Yep open the properties for live trace (Object>Live Trace>Tracing options). You will find a checkbox for ignore white.

Gradient Mesh Help

I like the idea of the tool, but whenever I could really use apply it, it seems I mess with it way too much.
My particular problem at the moment is shading a kind of boomerang shape...like the sun was hitting it from the top.
I draw the boomerang shape and when i click inside of it with the gradient mesh tool it to creat a first division of the gradient i get some whacked out lines that are nearly impossible to edit and smooth out.
Is there any advice about creating the mesh or good tutorials about creating it in a complex shape?

We all just sort of learnt this technique a few days a go.
Draw you boomerang shape and select with the direct select tool the four most outer anchor points like such
Then go to Object>Create Gradient Mesh and enter your desired divisions like such
then make sure you have the fill select on the color proxy. Add your colors.

Creating cut mask with live trace object?

Hi, I was wondering if it´s possible to creat a "cut mask" (in my spanish version -mascara de recorte) using an object created with live trace without expanding it. I need this because whenever I expand it, the object is so big and has so many paths that is impossible for my computer memory to work properly.

No, that's not possible. You could only create an opacity Mask with that traced object. But you would get transparency then, this might make your workflow even more complicated depending on what exactly you're masking and what exactly the file will be used for afterwards.
Isn't it possible to simplify the path?

Loading and viewing XML when a class object is created..Help Please

Hello,
I have writing a simple class which has a method that gets invoke when the object of the class is created. I am able to view the loaded XML content when I trace it with in my class method, but cannot assign the content to a instance variable using the mutator method. So the process goes like this:
Class object is instantiated
Class construtor then calls the loadXML method which laods the XML
And then assigns the XML to a class instance variable.
So now if I would like to access the loaded XML through class object, I should be able to see the loaded xml content which I am not able to see. I have spent over few hours and cannot get the class object to display the loaded XML content. I would highly appreciate it if someone can help in the right direction, please.

c.Cars will not trace as the loaded xml, because it will not have loaded in time. After some time it should presumably have the correct value.
loading operations in actionscript are asynchronous, so your nested function which is acting as the listener ( function processXML(e:Event):void) only ever executes when the raw xml data has loaded and that is (I believe, not 100% sure) always at least one frame subsequent to the current one.
In general I would consider it bad practise to use nested functions like that, but I don't think its contributing to your issues here. I think its just a timing issue given how things work in flash....
Additional observation:
your Cars constructor calls loadCars() and your loadCars method is defined as:
public function loadcars()
I assume its just a typo in the forum that the uppercase is missing in the function name....

However at the same time, if there has third filter condition,BO Edit Query can not generate sqls and display error.
I confirm by checking the sqls sentence in the sqlplus, the results are correctly.but in BO Edit Query are not correctly.

Sorry I didn't read the whole thing above.. But I can advice you as I encountered the same error.
It happened to me because of a loop that was forming between the tables .
loop in the sense: A-B-C-D-A
When i checked Short Cut join in the join properties I was not getting this error message. but... it was joining through a different longer path. It was then I realized that it had a loop. You can have a careful look to see if you are having the same issue. hope it helps people in future.

I recently upgraded to Yosemite. Now in my Pages documents I cannot select/edit any objects or images. Help Please!

I just recently updated my MacBook Pro to Yosemite 10.10.2
I also updated my "Pages" when asked to.
Now when a open any of my Pages documents, I cannot select/edit any of the objects/images in those documents.
I have gone through the "Pages" help but still cannot solve the problem.
There used to be a "make background objects selectable" button, but I can no longer find it.

I checked out your link and I remember the import box popping up when I upgraded from iWork to Pages a few years ago. My problem is with all files (even documents created with "pages" last week. The documents open fine, I just cannot select/edit the objects/images in the background of my documents. Yes, I have tried going through all of the tab menus and layout options and tried "pages" help.
So my problem is that I cannot open documents and adapt them to my next lesson, etc.

All songs sold in the iTunes Store are in AAC format, which as you have noticed, may require conversion when used outside of iTunes.
You can buy songs in MP3 format from Amazon MP3 or Google Play Music. Also, if you are interested, check out the DJ-oriented music download stores junodownload.com and beatport.com.
MP3s can be used without conversion in iTunes, as well as virtually every other player, program, and device.

Convert photos on DVD to iPhoto format Help Please

I made a DVD on iDVD of all my photos from a trip to Central Australia.
I wrongly assumed that this would provide a backup.
My Hard Drive crashed and I lost all the originals.
How can I convert the photos on the DVD back to iPhoto format?

Remember the three rules of computering:

3. and Back up again.
Get an external drive and back up your entire iPhoto Library! Right now!
What did you have on the DVD....iPhoto slideshow? iMovie of photos? Slideshow created in iDVD? Or, you burned the photos to the DVD-ROM area? If it is the latter, you can just open the ROM file and drag the photos out in their full resolution, so I am assuming that you did not do this.
If the photos are within an iDVD project, you can retrieve them, but you will lose significant resolution. You will need to use another application to extract the video. You can use Handbrake, or MPEG Streamclip to convert the video clips to DV format and you can 'Save Frame' as JPEG for each photo. However, the results are very grainy and not clear.

I have not used these...and I am skeptical of anything that says it can produce stunning photos, but they are not too expensive, $25 and might be worth it to you to retrieve your precious photos, even in cruder form.

Gradient mesh tool in a donut-type shape

I am trying to use gradient mesh in a donut-type shape. Basically I want the inner and outer circle of the donut to be black and the inner to fade to gray and back. In other words I want the gradient mest to follow the path. Now I realise that gradient mesh cannot do this. So what I did was cut my shape in four and then try to apply gradient meshes -- still it didn't work. Hopefully the below will explain what I am trying to do and what I end up doing!

1. First, turn on Smart Guides in the View menu, set up some construction guides and draw a rectangle that has the same width as the circular guide, but 50 % of the circular guide's height. Like this:
2. Select the rectangle
3. Object > Create Gradient Mesh: 1 row, 4 columns
4. Direct select the top left mesh point
5. Double click the Scale Tool and choose Uniform Scale = 0 %
6. Now, select the second mesh point from the top left and scale it: Uniform Scale = 0 %
Repeat scaling each single mesh point until all direction lines completely scarper.
7. Direct select the lower 5 mesh points
8. Double click the Scale Tool and choose Uniform Scale = 0 %
9. The next step is to direct select mesh point B and drag it onto the circular guide's anchor point W.
10. Now, direct select mesh point D and drag it onto the circular guide's anchor point O.
11. Direct select mesh point A and drag it to the South Pole. Do the same with mesh point E. This is the result:
12. Take the Convert Anchor Point tool, click on mesh point N and Shift drag to the left until you reach the vertical guide G1.
13. With the Convert Anchor Point tool click on mesh point W and Shift drag to the bottom until you cross horizontal guide G3.
14. With the Convert Anchor Point tool click on mesh point O and Shift drag northwards until you cross horizontal guide G2.
15. Finally do the same at S, but note that there are actually two congruent mesh points, so you'll have to fiddle around a bit in order to drag out the direction lines. However, you should be able to get this:
Now take this mesh object and add it to any Symbol library, so that you can use it as a conical grad maker in future sessions where you just draw a rectangle, fill it with a linear gradient, place the symbol on top of the rectangle and execute the Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object command.
