Convert .M4A to .mov

I'm attempting to upload to a school website and the .M4A (GB podcast with some pictures) won't work.
If I convert to .MP3 I can listen to the podcast online (without pictures).
Also I have uploaded iPhoto slideshows (.mov) successfully.
So what I'm thinking is that if I could convert the finished .M4A to a quicktime .mov I'd have a podcast with photo's that would upload and play.
BTW: I've tried a few M4A's just to make sure I wasn't uploading a corrupt file and this is not the problem. I can play the .M4A as a quicktime movie on my computer, but it won't work once uploaded (I assume this is due to the school's website, for which I cannot really seem to get any real support <answers> about).

A .mov file will be a lot larger. The real question is why you can't play it.
I assume that you have created a podcast in GB3 and added pictures to it? When you have done so you can apparently drag it to Quicktime and play it there (it should also play in iTunes OK and in both cases display the picture).
How have you uploaded it? Just as a file, or is it embedded into a web page?
You say it doesn't work - in what, your browser? If you right-click on the link to it and choose 'Download' can you then play the copy you have downloaded?
Your browser may be having problems - are you using Safari? or are you trying at the school on Windows and IE, because older versions may well not work.
See if you can play (and see) the podcast in this page:

This certainly works so if you can't play it the problem lies with your browser.

  • Converting .m4a into .mov with Quick Time?

trying to convert a .m4a file I pulled from itunes library into a .mov for use in FC7. this was easy to do in Snow leopard w/same quicktime10 with "save as" the option is not there in Lion, only export which does not have a .mov option. what am I missing or do I need another app now? I can't do it in Stream Clip either.

nevermind, I found Quicktime7 in my aplications and used that to do the conversion.

  • Converting m4a files to mp3

How do i convert m4a files to mp3 format? Call me old fashion but i still like to burn a mp3 disc. thanks

Are you using iMovie? Can you explain what/how you are getting to the point that you want to burn the video. My suggestions would depend on your workflow and I burn movies to DVD quite often.

  • There is no sound in converted for iPod movies

The problem is, and so I can't hear any sound after converting from any movie format to the iPod format using iTunes. Moreover, the new file has a .m4v type, and, as I understand, this type can't carry any sound(correct me if I'm wrong) like the simple .m4a and the combined mp4. Just want to know the decision

Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the videos; more information on this issue is available in this article.

  • QT Pro and .m4a to .mov conversion

I'm trying to create a .mov from an .m4a (Garageband podcast with some pictures).
If I understand what I'm reading in the archives here I'm pretty sure that QT Pro can convert the .m4a into a .mov.
    Am I correct about this?
Also,if so, what happens to the file size (how much bigger is it)?
The 1.7MB .M4a that I'm currently dealing with becomes an 11MB when I convert to a .mov in iPhoto.
    Thanks,

You can use QuickTime Pro and just "Save As" to put your .m4a file into a .mov container.
No re-compression and no increase in file size.

  • Converting .M4A

I'm not sure if this question has been answered yet, but how do you convert .m4a's to other formats? (.wmv, .avi, or whatever. Just not .mov.)
I use iTunes, but I don't use an iPod, and I want to transfer the videos I bought to my mp3 player.
I'm not planning on getting an iPod anytime soon.
Is there any way I could convert these videos?

Oh, sorry, I meant .m4v, haha...
I often get those confused. I'm not used to those formats since I use Windows, and I've never had an iPod, but I still use iTunes to buy stuff.
    So... I really meant .m4v.
    Sorry about that.
I have no problems with .m4a's, though. I'm fine with those.
    It's just .m4v's I'm having trouble with. :/

  • Converted .wmv to .mov will no longer play in quicktime

I have converted .wmv to .mov using the quicktime 7.6.4 save as feature and saved them to an external WD hard drive. They have been playing fine for months until yesterday, now i have a black quicktime screen, no sound or audio as the file plays, all that I have changed recently is that i have updated Flip4mac from 2.3.3.2 to 2.3.3.3 and updated Safari to version 4.1. I have run an Onyx maintenance scrypt and disc utility to try a repair a possible permissions or disc error, still no luck. I read an article on the Flip4mac site that suggested I export the file in quicktime, this has not worked. When viewing the files info it states the files codecs are windows media audio 9 standard*, windows media video 9 standard". After reading some other posts I installed Perian, but still no luck. If anyone can help to get these movie files operational again please advise.

I got an answer on the macformat forum that works, refer the attached link

  • How do I convert wmv to mov files for fcp?

I have tried a couple of different conversion programs to convert a wmv file to mov or mp4, and all seem to result in a viewable mp4, but when I import into final cut and try to put the footage into my sequence, it won't render. The sound renders, but the video remains "unrendered." I'm using a Pro res 422 sequence. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix the problem?
    Thanks

  • How to convert mpeg to .mov format

I am trying to upload a 3 minute movie clip to attach to an e-mail document. I converted it to mpeg. However, it is 59 mg and thus, too big to upload. After reading some of the posts on this site, I thinks that I must convert it to .mov in order for it to upload. Am I understanding this correctly?
Note that I don't want to compress the video so that it is of poor quality. If this is the procedure, how do I convert my mpeg file to .mov?
Note that I used Streamclip to do the conversion from the dvd.

Here you go. In this example, we've taken a short video and dumped into a folder we've created on our desktop called "yourvideo." Now, follow these steps to encrypt your video, upload it and get a download link you can email to others.
    1) Open SimplyRar, and drag and drop the yourvideo folder into the application's window. It will appear as shown below:
    http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/2808/10fm2.jpg
    2) Tick the password protect box at bottom and enter a password for your file as shown below:
    http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/8799/25ry.jpg
    3) Click on the "create rar" icon on the upper left and a box will open asking you where to save your new file, as shown below. In this example, I named the rar yourvideo and saved it to my desktop:
    http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3408/33le1.jpg
    4) Once the process is complete, you can close the SimplyRar application:
    http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/7862/48nf2.jpg
    5) Now go to www.rapidshare.de and select "choose file." Navigate to your file and select it, as shown below:
    http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/5081/55pf.jpg
    6) Click on the upload button, and your screen will show you the upload status (this is in Safari):
    http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/6707/63yn.jpg
    7) Once the upload is complete, you'll get this page. Locate the link as shown below. It is the active link you would send to friends in order for them to access your video file. Remember, they will also need the password you chose to .rar the file.

I recently purchased QuickTime 7 Pro to convert avi files to mov files for editing on Imovie. However, QuickTime won't play the files. How can I get them to play and how can I convert them to mov files?
Both the AVI and the MOV file extensions refer to the file container and not the compressed data the file contains. Both are generic file containers in that each may contain any valid combination of audio and/or video data that is compatible with the codec component configuration of the system on which the file was created. On the other hand, whether a file is playback compatible, conversion compatible, and/or edit compatible depends on the data actually contained in the file container. So, you are basically dealing with two separate issues here—the container and what is inside it.
Basically, if you want to make your files ediit compatible with iMovie, you must change your file container to one that is acceptable to iMovie and convert the data to edit compatible audio and/or video compression formats as may be necessary. The best approach is to determine what codecs were actually used to create the original AVI files and add them to your system if possible. In most cases a codec package like Perian can be added to your system's codec component configuration to may the AVI file playable. Once they are playable, in the QT 7 app then they can be chnged or converted to file types and compression formats that can be edited in iMovie. (While Perian handles most codecs commonly used to create AVI files, it does not handle all possibilities and, while the Perian codec package still works under cureent Mac OS versions, its development group has decided to drop further development/support of the package.)
Background: AVI is a file container originally developed by Microsoft back in 1992 but for which official support was discontinued about 11 years. Despite its limitations, Windows users still tend to use this file based on its open source ease of use and generic nature, thus, making its use so popular that most users are unwilling to switch to more modern but less generic file types. Since some AVI legacy compression formats have never been transcoded for the Mac or use beyond OS 9 or OS X PPC platforms, it is often important to know what specific compression formats are contained in the AVI file to know which codecs to add to your system and which not to add in order to avoid possible codec conflicts.
You can use many different converters to convert AVI files to iMovie edit compatible files. Most third-party apps contain their own buit-in codecs which do not relay on the Mac codec component configuration. Free ones, like HandBrake, usually have limited conversion capabilities while those that have more varied outputs are usually commercial in nature and will cost you additional cash. QT 7 Pro or the free MPEG Streamclip app allow you to access you own system's component configuration and use any available codec component like DV, AIC, MPEG-4, H.264, Photo JPEG, etc.—all of which are iMovie compatible for editing purposes—but only after making the AVI file QT 7 player compatible.
In order to determine what compression formats wewre used in your AVI files you can
    1) Try checking the Finder "Info" window,
    2) Use the "Inspector", "Media Info", or "Properties" window of any player app that will open the file, or
    3) Use a general media utility app like "MediaInfo" to read the file characteristics.

  • Converting purchased Lost movie from my APPLE to my PC.

Can anyone help? I use a Apple computer and a windows computer. I purchase the first and second seasons of LOST on my Apple computer. I would like to play them on my PC. IS THIS POSSIBLE WITHOUT PURCHASING FROM MY PC?
Seems like I should be able to convert from a .MOV to whatever format the Windows plays them in. I am not even shure what format the Windows uses if you download a movie from ITUNES.
    Thanks in advance, Dave.

DRM stand for Digital Rights Management - all iTMS purchases are drm'ed, preventing those files to be converted.
The files itself are the same regardless if bought using a mac or a windoze PC - just transfer those files.

  • HELP! Converting MPEG4 into Mov, AVI, WMV

I made a small clip on iMovie. I need to upload to a website for my band. I clicked on Share then export movie to my desktop. The website clearly says..."For video, we accept the following formats: WMV, MOV, AVI, MPG, MP4, FLV"
    Also, "SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT VIDEO:
GigMasters will automatically convert all WMV, MOV, AVI, MPG, and MP4 files to FLV. The conversion process will change the size of your video to 320 x 240 if it's not that size already. Also, the "audio sampling rate" of the video must be 11025 hz, 22050 hz, or 44,100 hz. Otherwise the audio may be garbled on playback."
Everytime I try to upload it tells me, "We do not accept the format of the file you selected. Please make sure your file format matches one of those listed above."
    Somebody please help. Thank you.

If using 4:3, which would be better given the AR of the movie required by your website, using the export to movie and then choosing the mobile size should be just fine. However your website may not like the .m4v extension added to the movie, in which case simply open the movie in Quicktime and select save as from the file menu, the resulting video will now be in a .mov container which you can then try uploading to your website.
