Convert many videos for play on Apple TV

I have a friend who has many videos going back for years in iMovie. All the movies appear to be in the quicktime format when looking at the video with GSpot. They want to play these videos on their Apple TV. I know you can export the movies one by one into iTunes, go in and edit the name of the clip and the metadata -- however this retains none of the information surrounding the "Event" it was labelled as in iMovie or the capture time. I know you can also publish to iCloud but that's a one movie at a time sort of deal and not a long-term solution.
We also tried sharing the files out with a DLNA server, but no devices I tried could play the quicktime movie format. It's shocking to me that there is no way to play iMovie videos on the Apple TV.
1. Is there a device anyone can recommend that will play the quicktime format, streaming over the network on a TV?
2. Is there anyway to export these iMovie videos to iTunes and save the Event title data and capture time/date?
3. Is there a better way going forward to import videos so they will be compatible with Apple TV? You can import them into iPhoto, though that seems backwards. iPhoto...iMovie....

I’ve been having the same issue’s [AirPlay / HomeSharing not working or working intermittently] after some digging and testing I found that this worked…please note I made the change 1 hour ago and things are still working.
Steps to Fix:
Login to the Router
Select Wireless settings
Change the “Wireless Mode” change it to 11G only. [Default is mixed mode]
Power off your computer[s], Apple TV and all other connecteddevices [wireless/wired].
Unplug the power on your router and wait 20 seconds…then plug it back in.
Once the router is full started up [5 min]…now turn on all your connected devices such as computer[s], Apple TV and all other connected devices[wireless/wired]
You should now be able to access Airplay as well as HomeSharing.

  • I've recently downloaded Wondershare software and converted many video files. I'm in the process of creating a movie and imovie keeps quitting on me. Wondering if there is a problem with Wodershare imac conpatibility?

I recently purchased Wondershare software. I've converted many video files and made a movie. imovie quitting. Wondering if there is a problem with Wondershare and imac compatibility. Any thoughts?

Not sure about the codec- Wondershare asked where I was sending to in setup and I selected imovie. It did the rest. I have been successful with editing on storyboard, but imovie (09) quits when I attempt to view project full screen, or prepare the movie for sharing. I have removed some files (to ensure headroom), and have installed most recent updates.

  • What is better when converting analog video for FCE, Canopus100/110/300/or5

    All,
What is better when converting analog video for FCE, Canopus100/110/300/or500? I have a new MACPRO with FCE HD and I wanted to convert some of my older video that was recorded on a HI8 Camcorder... Thanks.

I have the ADVC-100 (older model) and ADVC-110. They are identical except that the ADVC-110 does not come with an AC power adapter. Currently sells for about $220USD. If all you need to do is convert from HI8 tapes, the ADVC100/110 will do the job quite nicely.
The ADVC300 adds some enhancements for video signal cleanup, but at a higher price. Currently sells for about $450USD. The ADVC500 is overkill for home use.

  • Does converting a video for apple TV in Itunes add DRM?

    Hi,
When converting an MP4 video in Itunes to play on Apple TV, it creates a new .M4V file in my Itunes Music/Movies directory.
Does the conversion process also add DRM to the resulting M4V file?

whos digital rights would you want to add

if the source dont include the digital rights of something

  • Trying to covert video for play on IPhone

i downloaded a couple of music videos, not from itunes. i can't drag it into my iphone for play without converting it, so i converted it. after i converted it and put it in my iphone, only video w/ no audio? how do i get the audio to work?
    thanks

I use VisualHub to convert videos for playback on the iPhone.
Another great app is CosmoPod. You can download and convert Flash videos (like from YouTube) on-the-fly. It formats them perfectly for the iPhone.

  • Converting QuickTime Videos For iPod, iTunes Crashes on Windows

I was trying to convert some Quick Time movies (RvB Seasons 1-3) for my iPod, this is not my first time doing this but this is the first time I am having this problem. One day I open iTunes and try to convert these movies, like 10 seconds later the windows thing comes up and says “iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close” in the technical stuff it gave me it pointed to quicktimeessentials.qtx as the problem. So I searched for this file and deleted it Problem Solved! Or at least I though so when iTunes was able to convert my videos but now no Quick Time video will play right, so then I put the Quick Time file back where it was supposed to be, I can now watch my Quick Time movies but iTunes keeps crashing. Somebody Please Help!
    HP Pavilion zd8000   Windows XP

    hiya!
I can now watch my Quick Time movies but iTunes keeps crashing.
just checking. is it currently crashing with that message when you try to launch itunes, or just when you try to convert those videos?
if it's just when you convert those videos, let's check to see if it's a problem with every file, or just the ones you have at the moment. will itunes crash if you try converting the sample file from this document?

  • Converting m2ts videos for iPhoto slide show.

My brother used a new camera during a recent trip we took together. He has some great videos, but they are m2ts format and I use iPhoto to produce my slide shows. (I burn the slide show using iDVD). How do I convert his videos so that I can use them? My computer is not able to open them at this point.

One for the iMovie forum, I think.

  • Convert m4v Video to Play in Music Section

Currently I have taken several videos and converted them to m4v to play in the "Music" section of the iPod Touch but they will only show up in the "Movie or Music Video" section on the iPod. I ask this because American Idol videos that I have purchased play and are listed in the music section as m4v recordings and play just like any song not videos or movies. How does one go about having their own video files play/show up in the music section?

Music files you want as M4p.

  • Why does it take so long for FCPX to render video for the various Apple Devices?

It took 12 hours from FCP X to share 1 hour of video for iPad. It took over an hour to share a 3 min. video from FCP X via the new Compressor for iPad. It takes appreciably less time if I choose the DVD option (which now gives an error message in FCP X) or export as a Quicktime video.

Only an idea but 1.4Gb to 22.5Gb hmm well that may take a while as it's having to make the file bigger add information to it? But the bigger the file to a smaller size the longer things will take. Always use compressor though it's a professional compressor well the last version was anyway and your MacBook Pro is fairly powerful. do you have it plugged in when performing tasks like these as It may be that performance is reduced slightly to conserve battery life but I'm not 100% sure on that but if you haven't I'd give that a go.

  • Which video converter is best for quality on apple tv?

I am trying to find a video converter that will convert video into the best possible quality for my apple tv. I have looked around but there is so many and too make the choice even harder I have both windows and osx on my mac so I am not even limited on choice in terms of operating system.
I would appreciate some suggestions on which I should use.

Video formats such as avi and wmv.
I have one video that I can play on my notebook using QuickTime and iTunes 9.1.0.79; however, AppleTV can not play it because it was encoded at 192 Kbps with resolution higher than 720x432 pixels. The video is in MPEG-4 (.mp4). I'll have to check out handbrake and see if it will re-encode it (lower quality) for AppleTV.
I think you may need to check your video - certainly 720x432 is way below the specifications of the Apple TV. The HD content from the iTunes store at 1280x720 plays perfectly fine on my Apple TV and if I was you I certainly wouldn't even consider re-encoding a movie lower than 720x432 with HandBrake - it will look worse than it probably already does.
P.S. 192 Kbps has nothing to do with your video bit-rate, and as for AVI & WMV I think you may need to move on from your 80's obsession

  • HELP! Converted my videos to play on ipod & popup keep saying it wont work

I am so upset because I spent three days converting all my videos to work on my ipod and the pop-up say that "Blank" video in your Library cant be played. I have no idea how to get it to work. Please give me some answers. Thank you

    from the apple websight...
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
here is a link to a program that is advertised to do the conversions for you automatically, from a vast number of source types...

i have not used this application personally, I use handbrake and instant handbrake on OS X.
iTunes does not handle any of the video format conversions, it simply adds the metadata to its database for playback.

  • Videos not playing on Apple website

I have a 2008 black MacBook. When I attempt to play the videos on the Apple wesite I only get sound and a notice saying unable to download file. I have DivX installed on my computer. The BBC website shows videos OK and quicktime works OK. Is there a problem with the site?

I have had this issue for a while now, but i do not have any Divx extension to delete. Can someone suggest and alternative fix?

  • How to convert MPEG videos for use on iMovie?

I filmed my drama assignment with my friend on her video camera, she gave me all the files on a USB and when I got home to start editing on iMovie, it says:  iMovie cannot open files in the “MPEG movie” format.

I forgot to mention in a strange way there is not a straight standard format used by cameras as I discover In iMove and Final Cut Express. Mpeg is pretty standard but can be different. For example AVCHD or AVCHD Lite, Motion Jpeg on Panasonic. Each Camera uses similar names but the compression format maybe different and not compatible with iMovie. This why I like Toast, it converts almost anything to a useable format. But if your starting out the Camera Brand and Model is the key to finding compatibility with iMove. Since I have not used iMove in a while and don't know the new version go to the forum with Camera etc. and ask about compatibility. But Toast with some tries will most likely give you what need. This can be frustrating but you'll get there, it may take a little time. Also open the folder with files to see exactly what you've got. You really need to know exactly what you've got. I hope QuickTime work out for you

  • Why doesn't my Macbook OS X 10.6.8 support quicktime? Or convert these videos for editing on my iMovie application?

So, once again, my mac has got me frustrated. Why can my mother edit quicktime videos on her PC? I can't do that with my Mac! I took a video with my camera and it opens with quicktime, but I can't do anything after that, I heard I need some type of converter, is this true? That's annoying to me because that's thirty dollars that shouldn't have to be spent for this type of thing. There should be another way of handling this. It's quite frustrating, and if someone could help me understand this, then awesome. Thank you.
I would also like to encourage nice commentary please if you choose to answer, thank you!

If you don't get an answer here, you may want to post your question in the iMovie discussion here.
