Convert Maping Package to Procedure

Hello All,
Would any one let me know how to convert OWB Package to procedure such that we can use those procedures in other applications.
Thx & Reg,
S.Gyazuddin.

There are some details here too since mappings implemented as PLSQL will end up with a main, but there is also a generic API to execute any map (including SQLLoader etc.);

  • Reg. Converting a package level cursor into a Ref cursor

    Hi Guru's,
    I am in need of converting a package level cursor which contains "FOR UPDATE OF" clause into a Ref cursor where the query will be dynamically built in with the needed table name and other parameters.
    Using that cursor many Update statement's were performed with "WHERE CURRENT OF" clause included in it.
    Now I changed my cursor into Ref cursor, but when i compile the cursor that is built dynamical is not identified, since i am getting error.
    Can any one tell me how to proceed in order to implement it?
    Do I need only go for dynamic bulding of the whole procedure.
    With Best Regards,

    May be you can work it around with ROWID. Like this
    Say this is your actual code.
    declare
         cursor c
         is
         select *
           from t
            for update of name;
         lno t.no%type;
         lname t.name%type;
    begin
         open c;
         loop
              fetch c into lno, lname;
              exit when c%notfound;
              update t set name = lno||lname
               where current of c;
         end loop;
         close c;
    end;
    /With refcursor you can do this.
    declare
         type rc is ref cursor;
         c rc;
         lno t.no%type;
         lname t.name%type;
         lrowid rowid;
    begin
         open c for 'select rowid rid, t.*
                   from t
                    for update of name';
         loop
              fetch c into lrowid,lno, lname;
              exit when c%notfound;
              update t set name = lno||lname
               where rowid = lrowid;
         end loop;
         close c;
    end;

    First, a basic concept. That also illustrates how different Oracle is (and PL/SQL) from SQL-Server (and T-SQL).
    PL/SQL integrates two different languages. The PL language. The SQL language. It allows you to code SQL source code natively inside the PL language. The PL compiler is clever enough to do the rest - make calls to the SQL engine to create SQL cursors, bind PL variable values to bind variables in the SQL code. Etc.
    PL is a "proper" programming language. It is much like Pascal (it is based on Ada, a close family member of Pascal). It is nothing at all like T-SQL.
    Okay, now for the very basic rule for Oracle development.
    Maximize SQL. This means using the SQL language to crunch data. It is the "closest" to the data. It is designed and optimised for dealing with data. Do your data processing using SQL.
    Minimize PL/SQL. This means using the PL language not to crunch data, but to provide the conditional logic. Implement business rules. And then have the SQL language crunch the data as the data processing language.
    Attempting to directly translate T-SQL code into PL/SQL is flawed. It is like trying to make coffee with teabags. Yeah, the tea may have caffeine it, but it is not coffee.
    To do what that T-SQL script does, insert a row into a table, a typical PL/SQL equivalent will look as follows:
    create or replace procedure InsertMaster( masterRow master%rowtype ) authid definer is
    .. types and variables declared here
    begin
      -- masterRow is a record structure that matches the actual MASTER table
      .. apply business rules and validation to the data.. raising user exceptions as needed
      -- e.g. the POSITION column must be upper case
      masterRow.position := upper(masterRow.position);
      -- after the business logic and data validation we can add the row to the table
      -- (PL will make the INSERT call to the SQL engine)
      insert into master values masterRow;
    end;No commit. The caller does the business transaction. It needs to decide when to commit to maintain the integrity of the data in the database. It may need to do several more calls, before committing.
    With this approach, we can give the application schema (the caller) execute privs on this procedure. This procedure is defined with definer rights. This means it runs with the privs of owner of that procedure and MASTER table. It is trusted code. It does all the correct stuff to add a valid and checked row to the MASTER table. So we give the app schema execute privs on the procedure and no insert priv on the MASTER table.
    The only way the caller can add row to the MASTER table is via this trusted procedure of ours.
    And this is a typical approach in Oracle - using the PL/SQL (both PL language and SQL language) code to create an interface to a logical database in Oracle. Abstracting the complexities of SQL from the caller. Moving business and validation into PL. Allowing us the flexibility of modifying business and validation logic, without touching a single byte of caller/client code. Allowing us to manage and tune SQL performance without dealing with (badly designed and coded) SQL from a client - as the SQL resides in PL/SQL packages and procedures and functions.

  • Need to convert DTS packages to SQL Server 2012 environment.

    Hi Friends,
    As Part of the Project Requirement,we need to convert DTS packages to SQL Server 2012 environment.
    Please sugest me best approach.
    Thanks

    Best approach is to re-design the packages in SSIS 2012 directy if it is feasible. Because most of the DTS feaures are discontinued and also you will have to clean up all errors that you are going to get after migration.

    Otherwise you need to migrate it first to 2008R2 and then 2012 version.

  • Debtap - A script to convert .deb packages to Arch Linux packages

    I wrote this script in my free time to help people who, for any reason, want to convert a .deb to an Arch Linux package. It works in a similar way with alien (which converts .deb packages to .rpm packages and vice versa), but, unlike alien, it is focused on accuracy of conversion, trying to translate Debian/Ubuntu packages names to the correct Arch Linux packages names and store them in the dependencies fields of the .PKGINFO metadata in the final package. In other words, it won't only create an Arch package with the data of the original .deb package, but also it will try to create a valid and as accurate as possible .PKGINFO metadata file in the converted package. It uses pkgfile and pacman utilities to achieve this accuracy. The final package can be installed like any local Arch Linux package. Debtap is now available on AUR!
    FAQ
    Q: What "debtap" stands for?
    A: DEB To Arch (Linux) Package
    Q: Isn't better to download an official package or write a PKGBUILD in case I need to compile a package or convert a .deb package to an Arch Linux package?
    A: Sure it is, and I truely encourage you to do so. Debtap was written to create packages that either cannot be compiled (closed source packages) or cannot be built from AUR for various reasons (error during compiling or unavailable files), as a quick 'n' dirty solution and an extra option for creating Arch Linux packages for Arch Linux users.
    Q: So debtap will help me only in case I need to convert specific .deb packages to Arch Linux packages?
    A: No. In case you need to write a new PKGBUILD for a package that already exists in the Debian/Ubuntu distributions, by converting its .deb package to Arch package with debtap, thanks to the packages names translator function inside the script, it can help you determine which dependencies are needed for the package you write the PKGBUILD for and complete the necessary fields.
    Q: What are the minimum requirements to run this script?
    A: You need to have installed these dependencies: bash, binutils (provides ar utility for extracting .deb package), pkgfile, and fakeroot. You must run at least once (preferably recently) "debtap -u" to create/update pkgfile and debtap database (you do this with root privileges).
    Q: Debtap needs a lot of time to convert a package. So, why this is happening?
    A: Like I said, debtap is focused on accuracy. It won't just unpack a .deb package and then repackage its data to an Arch Linux package, ignoring metadata. Depending on the speed of your processor and the package itself, conversion can take from a few seconds to several minutes.
    Q: During conversion I get several warning messages, why?
    A: Debtap cannot be 100% accurate for several reasons,  the main reason for this is the complexity of packages names. If you want to check the freshly generated .PKGINFO and .INSTALL (this is optional file) metadata files or even fix the untranslated packages names inside .PKGINFO, debtap offers you the option to edit these files before compressing the final package.
    Q: How do I use debtap?
    A: The syntax is quite simple actually: debtap [option] package_filename
    For example: debtap world-of-goo-demo_1.0_i386.deb
    Any recommendations or questions for debtap are welcomed!

    Hi All,
    I am perty new here and I am facing a strange problem in SQL DEVELOPER. I have one schema and it has packages and functions created in it, but when I click

    Which version of Oracle?
    This sounds like an old bug where sqldeveloper checked for 'select any table', but you actually need 'select any dictionary'

  • Strange download size of on calling packaged stored procedure in VB6

    Hi,
    I tried to use VB6 to call oracle stored procedure with ref cursor as output parameter under a package in 10g database (10.1.03). Oracle client uses windows 9.2 / 10.1.02 (Oracle OLEDB Provider) . I found that when the package size increases(> 1000 lines codes), the data size transfer from database to VB client also increases. I try to trap the binary data flow between VB6 and database when calling packaged stored procedure. I found that VB6(or oracle client ??) will first download package spec then execute the requested stored procedure. This may explain the cause of increasing size.
    However, this large download size for calling only one of the procedure will make my application run slowly when my application uses the package much. How can I solve this problem ? Does this relate to oracle client(p.s. this problem disappear when using Microsoft OLEDB Provider)?
    Thanks
    Steven

    You can use a wrapper to get compiled code and if it's 10g you can do even more by putting it in a library.
    OLEDB from VB6 still using Oracle 'Client' as you call Oracle NET.

  • Why apps don't need to be granted for synonyms of packages and procedures?

    Normally, When a user create a synonym of other schemas' package or procedure, it requires to be authorized to execute via 'grant' by owner before the user can call it.
    But on one of our environment of EBS 12.1.1(vis), apps user don't need to be granted. Just need to make synonym and then can call the synonym. while on another environment of EBS 12.1.1(product), it still need to be granted. I notice that apps user in the two diffierent environment has many different database roles. Is any role associated with this? Does anybody know the reason?
    Thanks in advance!

  • SubVersion in SQL Developer - how to link to packages and procedures

    My question is this - I am starting out using SubVersion in Oracle and it seems pretty straightforward to use as a source control for files that are stored in a Windows directory, that is the only way I have used it so far.
    Am I able to use it to control packages and procedures that I have saved as part of my database, ie the procedures are part of a package and the package appears within the Packages section of the appropriate connection in SQL Developer.
    I hope this makes sense.
    Cheers,
    JabJam

    Hi JabJam,
    So far, everyone is correct. SQL Developer just uses a file-based source control system (e.g., SVN), which means updating database object definitions via scripts under version control, or somehow exporting the new definition to a script so it can be version controlled after the fact. And wouldn't it be nice if the database objects could be version controlled directly. With the database developer having control over when any changes are committed for shared use in the database. Similar to using the SVN plug-in for an IDE like Eclipse for a given programming language in a shared development environment.
    But what would your DBA have to say about that? Don't most DBAs require scripts for deploying code or structural changes?
    In Oracle, definitions (DDL) are committed automatically. Anyone granted access sees them. Since you probably don't do development directly against a production database, eventually scripts (either manual or generated) will be needed for deployment to QA or production. Few mechanisms currently exist to work against an active database without other authorized users also seeing these changes.
    For DDL, the closest thing would be the fairly recent edition-based redefinition feature in 11g (R2, I think). For DML, the OWM (Oracle Workspace Management) feature would be loosely analogous.
    This is not a simple issue. Version control via an extension for Subversion provides essential basic support. Going beyond that might mean watching the evolution of edition-based redefinition, but DBAs would probably require scripts for that too.

  • Extracting package and procedure name in code

    In my exception processing I need to log the package and procedure name that got the exception. How do I obtain these two names without manually coding the names?
    Thanks in anticipiation

    A better option is to get the package name and the line numberA still better option is to utilize pl/scope (when you are in 11g (not sure about 10g)):
    SQL> alter session set plscope_settings='identifiers:all'
    Session altered.
    SQL> set serverout on
    SQL> create or replace package pkg
    as
       procedure p1;
       procedure p2;
    end pkg;
    Package created.
    SQL> create or replace package body pkg
    as
       procedure get_scope (obj varchar2, line int)
       as
       begin
          for c in (select rpad (lpad (' ', 2 * (level - 1)) || name, 20, '.') || ' ' || rpad (type, 20) || rpad (usage, 20) identifier_usage_contexts
                    from user_identifiers t
                    where level != 1
                    start with line = get_scope.line and object_name = obj
                    connect by usage_id = prior usage_context_id)
          loop
             dbms_output.put_line (c.identifier_usage_contexts);
          end loop;
       end get_scope;
       procedure p1
       as
       begin
          null;
       end p1;
       procedure p2
       as
       begin
          get_scope ($$plsql_unit, $$plsql_line);
       end p2;
    end pkg;
    Package body created.
    SQL> exec pkg.p2
      P2................ PROCEDURE           DEFINITION
        PKG............. PACKAGE             DEFINITION
        PKG............. PACKAGE             DECLARATION

  • How to convert SQL server stored procedures to Oracle 11g

    Hi Experts,
    In SQL server 30 stored procedures are there how to convert all the stored procedure
    from SQL server to Oracle 11g.
    Please help me,
    Thanks.

    The single most fundamental concept you need to understand (grok in its fullness) is:
    ORACLE IS NOT SQL-SERVER
    There is very little, to NOTHING, in common between T-SQL (a language extension to SQL) and PL/SQL (integration of SQL with the language Ada, part of ALGOL family of languages that includes Pascal and C++).
    So taking a T-SQL procedure and porting it as is to PL/SQL is plain stupid.
    Why?
    Oracle sucks at trying to be SQL-Server.
    So how do you migrate from SQL-Server to Oracle?
    By taking the REQUIREMENTS that the T-SQL procedures address, and addressing these requirements using Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.

  • Pass BLOB as parameter to Packaged Stored Procedure

    Does JDBC (thin or otherwise) support passing a BLOB as a parameter to a packaged stored procedure in Oracle, or do we have to do an 'insert' statement to get it in?
    All the articles I've seen seem to refer to insert and select, but I want to strictly enforce all access to the database being through a package rather than table level access.
    We've certainly had no difficulty receiving blobs from the resultset returned by our packaged procedures.
    Any help appreciated,
    Thanks
    Jason.

    Can someone please demonstrate exactly how to use formula results as date parameters to a SQL stored procedure?  Keep in mind, there are two parameters to the stored procedure.
    I have gleaned this much: Use Add Command and insert the procedure with
    EXEC ServerName.dbo.usp_sprocName;1 '{?StringParameter}'
    but if I try to do
    {CALL ServerName.dbo.usp_SprocName({@Formula1},{@Formula2})}
    then it gives the error "No value given for one or more required parameters".
    Both of the parameters are VARCHAR(50).
    I have finally found this link: [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms710248(VS.85).aspx|http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms710248(VS.85).aspx]
    This Microsoft site defines the format of the ODBC escape sequences, but I still do not know how to convince Crystal to insert it's parameter results or formula results.
