Convert mp3 to aiff

i imported songs into itunes as mp3.how can i convert them to aiff and i done tried setting preferances,hit convert to aiff and its not working.at least if it did the show info still says mp3.if i burn the mp3 through itunes set on audio does that convert it to aiff and burn it as such?

A data disk will not not play on your CD player like an audio CD. It's only useful for backing up in case you need to restore your library.
The convert feature should work. Don't know why it's not. What view do you have your library set on? You might tell iTunes to show duplicates and make sure the converted file isn't hiding somewhere. (You say you set the Preferences....that would be iTunes prefs, Advanced, Import (IF you want to convert the file) and set to AIFF.
If you're burning the file after that, setting Burning to Audio CD.

P.S. Are you sure the files are MP3s? If they were downloaded from iTunes, they are protected AAC and you won't be able to convert them to AIFF. (Have to burn, then re-rip to convert those.)

"Best" depends totally on your usage, so without knowing what you need these files for and what your criteria will be, it's difficult to offer any useful advice.
"CAF" is probably "Core Audio Format". See this developer article for information.

Frankly though I think if it can't play mp3 then it cannot play AIFF. Do not confuse a file in AIFF format with the format that is used on an audio format CD which all players can play. I suspect that what you really need to do is burn audio format CDs. You can do this using your mp3 files.

Audio problem-- converting song to AIFF doesn't stop pops and cracks!!

i've converted mp3s to AIFF both thru itunes and quicktime. when i import them to my FCP HD timeline, they still sound distorted-- with the same cracks and slowness as it does when i try to play an mp3 without converting the song format.
i have made settings 48/16bit to match my footage.
why isn't this working? any tips?

thanks for trying to help. i'm still having the audio problem-- the aiffs sound clean in both quicktime and itunes, crackly and distorted in fcphd.
my fcp sequence setting is for 1080i/60 HDV 29.97fps with audio set to 48khz/16bit stereo.

I'm using GB '08 on OSX 10.4.11 w/ a G4 MDD. ( Sorry folks, This is the setup that I have and cannot buy a new computer or software at this time)
I'm pretty new too DAW and all of this but want to compose music with traditional orchestra sounds as well as what GB offers.
I have found Muse Score and I can get some pretty good results for writing but I want to expand the software instrument voices that GB has.

and they have some pretty good sounding software instruments for free, except that they are in mp3 format.
I did some reading and see that GB understands a different format for this. I put some of the sounds into the correct GB folder as a test and result is of course no go. I see that GB uses exs and cst files in addition to wav and aff files.
How do I convert mp3 software instrument samples to the formats garageband can use? Is there a way? What would I need to do this?

The first step would probably be to convert the samples into AIFF files, that's what GB's sample files are in.
But so far that's only a collection of samples - what you need is a sampler file that tells the software which sample to trigger with which key (the .exs files in GB's instrument library).
Since your software is old, t works pretty well with soundfonts (the latest versions have problems), so you might try this software to create them:

Converting MP4 to AIFF

I purchased a song to use in Final Cut Express. However, Final Cut Express will not accept MP3 or MP4 formats, only AIFF. But iTines will not convert MP4 to AIFF. Both iTunes and Final Cut Express are Apple products. Isn't one department of this company speaking to the other? How can I get my song to play in Final Cut Express?

Burn the file to an Audio CD. Then import back into Final Cut. Or use iMovie and import the song into that then export(share) out as an AIFF file. iMovie needs to be version 4.0.1 or later and Quicktime needs to be 6.5.2 or later.

Replacing mp3 w/AIFF

Hello - I loaded an mp3 into FCP, as I had temporarily forgotten about converting it to AIFF... The thing is, is that I already edited the song into a number of sections, so rather than having to start that from scratch again, is there a way to 'disconnect' the media, then 'reconnect media', reconnecting to AIFF? I did try deleting the mp3 file from the Browser, thinking that I could do just that, but the mp3 is still in the timeline -- thanks very much!

Ok, here's something weird, I did think I was reconnecting, but there was no box for 'Matched Name Only'... but here's the thing - I went back and listened to what I had in the timeline, and it didn't skip where it normally did, leading me to believe that I wasusing the AIFF file. However, when I click on the audio in the timeline it, it still shows up in the Viewer as being the mp3...
So I tried it again w/another song, and still no 'Matched Name Only' box, and it shows up in the Viewer as being the mp3. But by now, I can't tell if I'm listening to the mp3 or the AIFF. And about that, the AIFF is actually an AIFC, after I've converted the mp3 to AIFF file - anyone know what that might be about? THank you!!!

Converting mp3

Since no server will allow big files to be sent in e-mail we're stuck with sending mp3's which of course don't sound as good as Aiff files. My questionis: if I send an mp3 to someone for him to record his vocals on, should he convert the file to Aiff, record his voice over it, and then convert it back to mp3, send it back to me and then if I converted to Aiff would it sound as good as thouugh it had been in the Aif format all along? Or should he skip converting it to an Aiff and just record over it as an mp3 and send it to me for me to convert it back to Aiff. I guess the basic question is: does an mp3 file that is converted to an Aiff file take on all of the uncompressed and good sonic qualiites of an Aiff file or the final product be compromised in some way by the conversion process?

Just tried it and can report the following:
Dragging onto the phone in PC-Suite effects the format conversion
Dragging from Nokia Music is not supported
Dragging from Windows folder is supported
However, files thus transferred lose all related info and can be found by filename (not track name) under
Unknown Artist > Unknown Album.
It is then possible to re-enter the track info directly on the phone via Options > Song Details.

All this means that Nokia Music is superfluous.

Garageband 11 wont convert mp3

Hi:
Project to combine 2 tracks of 25 minutes or longer.
Problem: Garageband will attempt converting mp3, and then stop. No Track.
Garageband 11, OS 10.8.2
Attempted solutions:
Converting to AIFF. Successful once, from that one on, AIFF does not even create a track.
Converting to WAV. Does not create a track.
Oddity:
Was successful in one instance, using AIFF. But, not since. Even opened successful song and couldn't import the successful AIFF as a 3rd track (used as test).

When bouncing, do you use the Key Command or the button on the Output Channel Strip? The Key Command only bounces from the Stereo Output. The bounce button bounces from the Channel Strip it is on. So if you want to bounce out outputs 3-4 or higher, don't use the key command, but the button.
The strange thing here is that Logic, when it bounces an MP3, first bounces an AIFF, which at the end of the bounce process is being converted to MP3, so I can't imagine how you can get a silent AIFF and a normal MP3.
How have you listened to those bounces? iTunes? Quicklook? Quicktime?

Exchange mp3 for aiff (reconnect)

Hi I am working on a project right now in Logic Express 7, it's kind of a collage of mp3 song mixed together to create a new piece. My problem is that logic is getting really slow when I work in the arrange window if I move the cursor the rainbow is spinning for a while before I can hear anything. Usually with midi and aiff files I have no issues. I am suspecting the mp3 format not to be well supported in that version. I just did drag and drop of my mp3's just like someone suggested before. Right now I am trying to convert all the mp3's that I am using in this project to aiff. My question is how to replace the mp3 files by the aiff files without loosing my editing? I don't want to start from scratch again, how is that possible? (I would need something like reconnect media like in FCP)

Sure, Logic can do this, but:
MP3s can not be edited destructively and have to converted into wav/aiff/SDII first if you want to actually change the pitch/tempo of the file in the sample editor, There are many tools to line up tempo and speed like various pitch shifters, pitch and time mashine, beatmapping and others. Logic is a full DAW also capable of Remixing and DJing stuff.

there is no such thing as "converting an mp3 to a URL." a URL is a pointer to where the file resides online. iow, you have to "upload" the mp3 somewhere (typically a web site that you own), and then use that URL to point to the file.
for example this:

points to a file located on the bulletsandbones web site

Can you use iTunes match and not get duplicates if you maintain mp3s and aiffs files of the same song in either the same or separate libraries?

I maintain a collection of aiff files and mp3 files of the same music.
Aiff for home listening and Mp3 for my devices.
I can arrange these in the same or seperate libraires.
Will "itunes match" duplicate the songs in the cloud if they in the same or seperate libraies on the same mac?
If not, is anyone aware of how to manage seperate Mp3 and Aiff libraries so as not to get duplicates in itune match?

I checked my "purchases" and the 7/19/13 purchases don't show up. However, the earlier versions from usually several years back...the ones that are Matched...often do show up in my Purchases. I suspect that somehow those REALLY purchased several year old versions were deleted and redownloaded by me so I could change them to the 256 kbps versions under iTunes Match. They were probably 128 kbps versions originally when purchased.
Why the earlier versions that were really purchased are now identified as Matched is puzzling.
Why I now have Purchased versions from 7/19/13 is puzzling too...especially since these versions do NOT show up in my purchases.
Calling Apple Support if a good idea unless someone can explain this mystery. I might even take one of my laptops to the Apple store and show a Genius.
