  • Converting mp3 to podcast iTunes 11.1.2.31, iPhone 7.0.3

I would like to convert mp3's to podcasts. In the past if I dragged the mp3 into music, then right clicked the file>options and changed media kind to podcast it would move that file into podcasts and when I synced it would move the file onto my iPhone as a podcast. This procedure no longer works. The new update to 7.0.3 no longer has podcasts in Music so I downloaded the Apple Podcast App. Does anyone have a solution?

I am experiencing the same issue. I regularly change mp3 to podcasts within iTunes (change type to podcast and remember position).
Immediately following my update to 11.1.3 (Mac, Mavericks), the files that are created no longer function on my iPhone. iTunes says that they are transferring, but when I open the podcast app, they are not there. All of my downloaded podcasts work fine, but the converted ones are no longer visible or playable.
When I do a spotlight search on the phone, the files show, but the official podcast app and a few other podcast apps that I downloaded cannot see them. These files worked fine after the latest iOS update. It wasn't until getting iTunes 11.1.3 that this problem surface.

  • How to convert .MP3 files into .AAC with iTunes 10.5.2

Im running a Mac OS X 10.5.8, and my iTunes version is 10.5.2.
I want to convert .MP3 files into .AAC using iTunes, but no option is given for me. What should I do?

im not going to change all my songs into AAC, I was experiementing around with making ringtones for my iphone. I can open a song in Garageband, and export it as an AAC file to my itunes, but it is very annoying. I remember older versions of itunes having a "Convert to AAC" option, but i can't find it anymore on this current version of itunes.
Basically, I want to convert a couple songs into AAC to create ringtones out of them.

  • ITunes/iPod is set to automatically convert MP3s to QT

My iTunes/iPod is set to automatically convert MP3s to QuickTime, and I don't want it to do that. All I want to do is transfer TRUE MP3 files without the conversion, but I'm not sure where the settings are, and on which device, that's doing the conversion. Using Windows Vista OS and a new iPhone 4.

    Edit > Preferences > Devices.
Uncheck the option for "Prevent iDevices from automatically syncing".

  • Converting MP3 to AAC in iTunes 8.0.1

I heard about how Walmart is offering MP3 tracks for 94 cents through their MP3 downloading site that is now compatible with Mac OS X, Safari, iPod, and iTunes. The MP3 sites has no restrictions for backups, playlists, computers, etc.
So I'm wondering, how do you convert an MP3 file into AAC file?
    Sincerely,
    Stu "the1macnerd" Carpenter
P.S. MP3 is okay (MPEG-3 Audio layer 1) but AAC (MPEG-4) is a lot better and sounds better in both 128 kbps and 256 kbps, even though 256 kbps takes up twice the space with no DRM, iTunes Plus. However, buying from iTunes Store is a lot better cause Walmart only has 3 million tracks available compared to iTunes' 8.5 million tracks. The iTunes Store is also worth it for people who don't want to buy the edited versions of music because iTunes Store sells both versions, and Walmart is more selective in that they don't sell certain artists based on religious or moral objections, such as Marilyn Manson and other artists.

You won't get any benefit converting from MP3 to AAC, both are lossy compression formats and you could even end up with a file of lesser quality by converting from one lossy format to another. Converting to AAC won't add any more information to the MP3 file than is already there. However to convert any type of audio file in iTunes 8 you first have to change your import settings in iTunes>Preferences>General, choose the Import Settings button. Once you have chosen your setting (AAC for instance) highlight the track you want to convert and go to Advanced>Create AAC version.

  • ITunes 11 convert mp3 to podcast

Not bashing (yet!)  I have learned to give software changes a few days to win me over.
However, I have not been able to convert mp3 to podcast since the update.  I like to listen at double speed and I do seem to be able to convert to audiobook so that could be a workaround.  I'd rather use podcast.
I've tried converting multiple files at the same time and one at a time using "Get Info"
    Any ideas?

And it appears we have a winner!

Sorry – I didn't mean to suggest that my solution was a good solution, just that it might be a temporary fix for some of you until Apple fixes the bug (if indeed they consider it a bug).
skirsman: I'm not sure why you say ID3 Editor needs to be compiled. Go tohttp://www.pa-software.com/downloads.php and look for the download options under ID3 Editor. However, you're right about it being trial software. For me this wasn't a problem, because I'm not looking for a long-term solution, and I was able to change the metadata for 140 MP3s. If you're interested in this approach, it'd be worth searching for other apps that do this – ID3 Editor was simply the first thing I found, and its trial period was sufficient for my needs. I believe it's also possible to write AppleScripts or Python code (or whatever) to do this automatically, and I might attempt something like that if this problem sticks around.
7smcb: Sorry I didn't give more detailed instructions. Here are instructions for the Mac version (Windows version is probably similar):
    Run ID3 Editor.
It will ask you to open a file. Choose the MP3 you want to modify.
Go to the Podcast tab (see screenshot).
Enable the "podcast tag" by checking the box (see screenshot).
Give an identifier, feed location (optional), and description (optional). See info further below.
    Click Update.
    Import the file into iTunes.
As far as I can tell, you don't need to give both an identifier and a feed (just one is sufficient), but I gave both. I also added a description as well, but this seems to be optional. If you leave all the fields blank iTunes will not accept the file as a podcast.
If you want to do this with a whole bunch of files at once, go to File > Open Group in ID3 Editor, which allows you to modify the metadata for many files at once.
As far as I know, the identifier should be set to something unique for each file, so that iTunes can treat it as a separate episode or whatever. I didn't experiment with giving loads of files the same identifier – not sure what iTunes will do in this case.
The location should point to the RSS feed where new episodes can be downloaded. For many of you, you won't need to bother setting this.
    Hope this helps.
Thanks to you JohnWilliamCarr for a simple, if not cumbersome, solution.
This worked for my files and I was even able to do groups of files (separate file for each hour of the show)

  • How can i convert my whole library to flac or apple lossless

how do i convert my whole library to flac or apple lossless?!!?!!?!?!?!

First, FLAC is not supported by iTunes and the same probably applies to the iPod.
Second, are all your files currently in AIFF or WAV format, or on CDs?  If you have mp3 files or AAC files the only thing that will happen by you converting them to lossless is you will use up more space for the music with no gain in quality.  Quality is lost when you convert to mp3 or AAC and converting it to lossless won't get it back.
It looks like current ipods support Apple Lossless.  Still, the whole idea behind ipods is to use compressed format so you can fit on the most music.  Read http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=85227
If after doing all that you still want Apple Lossless, you need to set the preferences to ALAC in your iTunes preferences, then convert with the Advanced menu command.  Mind you, I use an older iTunes so you may have to explore a bit to find where they have those features now.  This conversion will place a copy of the file in iTunes in the new format but also leave the old one there, so you'll need to delete the old ones if you don't want them.

  • How can I import files FLAC in iTunes?

    Hello to everybody.
I would like to import files .FLAC in iTunes and then in my iPod. How can I do it? I see that iTunes doesn't support this kind of files.
    Can you help me?
    Thank you very much
    Stéfano - Firenze - Italy

    Stefano,
No.  That is frequently asked, but in fact, iTunes has never supported FLAC.
Over the years, there have been a few attempts to enable iTunes to play FLAC by means of plug-ins, such as those from Xiph.  However, they (1) are not reliable or well-supported, and (2) allow iTunes playback but do not allow iPod syncing.  So don't waste your time.
If you have FLAC files, you need to convert them to an audio format that iTunes can play, such as Apple Lossless or MP3.  Add the converted files to your iTunes library, but keep the FLAC originals on hand for when you are using a more capable player.

  • (How) can I use my Airport Extreme to send FLAC files/iTunes to my stereo?

(New to this topic.) Is it possible to use my Airport Extreme Base Station to send FLAC and iTunes music files to my (ParaSound P3/A23) stereo system wirelessly?
    If so, how?
(Not interested in iOS devices doing this - just, effectively, in using my 'mid-2011'  2.7 iMac (10.7.3) as a music server
    TIA!

Yes, add an AirPort Express and convert FLAC to Apple Lossless and iTunes will be able to play them. VLC will not help since you need iTunes to connect to the AirPort Express and VLC will not work with iTunes.
There may be an exception to this but I've never tried it. You could try using AirFoil to connect to the AirPort Express and play your FLAC files that way but I have no guarantee it will work. AirFoil seems very flexible so it may prove to be a solution for you.
I'm not familiar with the Sonos Bridge/Connect system so I cannot comment on the quality. I understand that it is comparable to using the AirPort Express but locking at the price it seems a more expensive solution for your needs.
