How does one go about converting an mpg file to an mp4 file using handbrake on Mac OS Tiger? I have a relative who needs to know. Any help is appreciated.

How does one go about converting an mpg file to an mp4 file using handbrake on Mac OS Tiger?
It doesn't. HandBrake only converts DVD in the drive, DVD images on HD, and/or ripped VIDEO_TS folders on the HD. Tell your relative to try iSquint (free) or PSPWare (free in unregistered mode) for conversion of MPEG1 files. MPEG StreamClip will also do the job for free, but may have more options than desired for the beginner.

  • MPG to Final Cut Pro , convert mpg files to FCP freely

Why need to convert/import MPG files to Final Cut Pro?
Final Cut Pro is the premium choice for any Mac video editing, and it is widely used by Mac users now. These MPEG standard files can be these different codes and cause failure in importing to Final Cut Pro. If anyone comes across the situation, the best solution is to get aids from MPEG/MPG to FCP converter for Mac, which can help you to convert MPEG group files to FCP compatible video format and then files can be easily imported for editing job.
As we know that Final Cut Pro don't natively support MPG, MPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 files, it can import MPEG-4 files (but need to be rendered once you place them on your timeline) and MOV files (without rendering). Therefore, to import MPG to Final Cut Pro directly, the best way is to convert MPG to Final Cut Pro supported Apple ProRes MOV files.
How to convert MPG to Final Cut Pro(fcp)
    Step 1: Import MPG files

Import unsupported MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 to Final Cut Pro 7/X, Final Cut Express
Summary:If you are looking for the best way to transcode MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 videos to ProRes MOV for FCP 7/X and FCE, you can follow this post, it has offered best solutions for editing MPEG videos on Mac in Final Cut Pro 7/X, Final Cut Express.
    Cases:
The following are two problems when some users import MPEG-1/MPEG-2 to Final Cut:
"I am trying to import MPEG-2 files into Final Cut Pro X. I have the raw files from a Sony Handicam HDR-SR5 as well as raw files from an Sony Handicam MDR-CX560. These files were recorded as MPEG-2 files and copied from the camera hard drives (entire folders were copied containind the MPEG-2 fies) to a local hard drive on my computer. Final Cut Pro X does not recognize the files and will not import them. I have tried to use Compressor to conver the fies. I am using the very latest version that touts being able to export to Final Cut X format. I don't see that option anywhere in the settings."
    Question:
Is there a way to get MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files into Final Cut Pro X without having to convert them?
    Answer:
Don't try to work with (highly compressed) MPEG 2 in FCP X. Use software to convert to ProRes 422 first, it's best codec for final cut pro or final cut express. Life will be much easier for you if you do. ProRes 422 is roughly between 5 and 8 times bigger than native camera footage - sometimes as much as 10 times, I believe, but it's well worth it for editing, effects and playback quality. The time required depends largely on your processor power but 30 mins sounds realistic.
    Software you need:
Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac
This software can convert MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 to Apple ProRes 422 codec for Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X or Final Cut Expr editing without rendering.
    Step by step guide:
    1. Download and install the best MPEG1/MPEG2 to ProRes Converter and launch it to add your videos to it.
    2. Choose output format. Click on the “Format”> Final Cut Pro, Apple PreRes 422(HQ), Apple PreRes 422, Apple ProRes 422(LT), etc are all the proper choice for you.
    3. Click "Settings" to adjust the parameters as you want, like Video Codec, bit rate, frame rate, Audio codec, sample rate, bit rate, channels. Set the video frame rate as 30fps, video size as 1920*1080 will be better.
    4. Click Convert button to start MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 to Final Cut friendly Apple ProRes 422 for native editing on Mac OS X.
    5. When the conversion ends, you can run the Final Cut Pro and click File --> Import --> Files to import the resulted MOV files and edit them in FCP easily, you can follow this import video to fcp guide.
From the steps above, I think you got the point to convert and import MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files to Apple ProRes 422 for Final Cut editing, please have a try, this software will solve you MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 importing and editing problems, and then you can import and use your MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 in Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X or Final Cut Express on Mac without any problems.

    Hi
We are looking for a software which converts SWF to MP4, we found many software which does the job but issue is file size is not optimize.
We found Adobe captivate 6 which gives optimum quality with good output but thing is we do not have batch process in captivate 6. so we request you to create a plugin or give a best option which have batch render quality and optimize in file size,

Captivate is e-learning development software not a dedicated video convertor, you are better off trying something like Adobe Media Encoder or Super.

Which is the best video converter that can help me convert M2TS to MP4. Thanks?

  • Is there a fast way to convert mp3 to mp4?

Got a large library of audiobooks in itunes that are in mp3 format.  I want to convert them to mp4.  Join Together by Doug Adams does a great job of this but is sloooow (appears that Quicktime is running in single step mode.)  Is there a faster way to make the conversion?  What are the best sample rates and data rate for a fast conversion?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

You still haven't talked about the reason for converting, other than easier to use. I can read between the lines and guess that you are copying the files to some special device that doesn't like MP3,but no idea what it is or why MP3 doesn't work with it. Also, are you settled on using AAC format? I think it is a more advanced format intended to replace MP3 (Haha... sorry, just thinking about how long these PC guys took to give up on Windows XP-- they will fight much harder before giving up MP3 and AVI),
Try Max for conversions. It has a batch feature (drag a dozen files to the window and click the Convert icon). Here is the comparison I got:
Using iTunes to convert a 3:02 length song, 192 kbps, 4.2MB MP3 to AAC 128 kbps, 2.8 MB, the conversion time is 59 seconds.
Using Max (free) to convert the same MP3 to the same setting of AAC 128 kbps, 2.9 MB, the conversion time is 37 seconds.

  • Converting AVI to MP4

I have a number of older AVI files that I'm trying to convert over to MP4 so that I can not only play them on my computer, but on my HD TV as well.  They are older, like I said and not in HD, but having the ability to show off my videos on the big screen
I pulled them into Premier (using the school computer after class) and queued them to convert to MP4 using H264 and 720p. Now the original files were NOT HD, and I know that the quality won't get any better during the process, but I figured that this would have less quality loss during the conversion.
The files converted in about 15 min each, and I took them home to check.  Seems to play fine from my flash drive right from the TV. Cool!  Trouble is, when I watched them on my computer screen all the way through to check the quality, I noticed problems.  During some scenes, mostly during pans, the images smeared (the best description I can think of).  It's not huge, but since it's not there on the original, I can't imagine what would cause it, unless it's the decode/encode process.
I'm going to test it with MPEG2 / HDTV 720P 24 High Quality next, but I wanted to get a feel on what would be the best option for this type of conversion.  I don't really know if my TV will play the MPEG file types since I've lost the book for it. :/
As I said, they are older files and certainly not HD so I know that the quality won't improve, and I know that some degredation will occur, but I'd like to keep it to a minimum.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
    Eric the Grey

According to Premiere, the original was not ntsc (512x384 (1.0)  23.97fps, Progressive)  The original files were pulled from the camcorder (an older type that used big clunky video tapes, old for it's time even in 2003) by a friend since my computer at the time was not able to do so for some reason. He also encoded them the way they are now.
As to DVD, I actually did that a few years after getting the originals encoded, but a recent viewing of them showed that they degraded and some of them no longer play.  The disks act like they are scratched but the disks themselves are in perfect condition.  I've thought about getting a blu-ray burner and disks and putting them all on there, but that will have to wait until after the holidays at the earliest...
Anyway, I'll give the SD Youtube preset a try tonight and let you know how that works out.  I'm not terribly interested in changing the aspect to widescreen. I can deal with the black borders.  Once I've got the formatting figured out, I've got some more, even older videos to convert.  These came from some very old 8mm film of my fathers.
    Thanks again for the suggestions.
