Convert music itunes 8

i have used itunes to convtert my music from mp3 to aac (and vice versa for certain situations) and now in itunes 8 I can only convert to mp3... why? please apple put this feature back...

Soz mpdhokie, no solution, just a 'me too'...
I need to convert MP3s, which I create myself (ie- from sounds I create), in to AAC format so I can then turn them in to working ringtones for my iPhone.
Online research is disappointing as tutorials always seem to refer to PC/older iTunes versions.
Any pointers?
Don't see why Apple would have a problem with me doing this, I mean, it's my phone and my sounds!

You can't sync music not obtained from the iTunes Store currently on your phone to the iTunes library on your computer. Assuming this music on your old PC, your only choice is to copy it from your PC to your Mac. Otherwise, SOL.

Help transferring converted music into itunes

I converted my .wma songs to .aac songs with an outside converter because itunes kept shutting down every time i tried to convert the .wma songs there
anyway, i converted the songs but now itunes wont let me transfer the songs in the music library
i have tried everything, the file add to library, the folder add to library

Surprising, since if they play in Quicktime they shoudl be OK in iTunes.
I suggest go back to step 1. Take one of the original files and convert it to MP3 this time. Does that MP3 work in iTunes?

If by any chance you have purchased DRM-encumbered files, which were sold by the iTunes Store until 2009, be aware that they only work in Apple products.
You can replace them with non-DRM files in AAC format for 30 cents apiece, or you can use iTunes to burn them to an audio CD, which can be used like any audio CD.

Select/highlight the ones that you want to change in your iTunes library, do Get-Info (control-I) and change their Media Kind on their Options tab to 'Music Video' - and then similarly for the podcasts.

How do I convert my iTunes Match library to MP3?

I have several thousand AAC files that I created by importing part of my CD collection to iTunes Match. Because these files were created from my own CDs, rather than purchased as digital downloads, there is no DRM issue.
However, I want to be able to play these files on an MP3 player. From what I understand, I can select MP3 in my import settings, which will cause future imports to be in MP3 format, but that does not affect the files I already have.
I can right-click a bunch of files and say "Convert to MP3," but that creates duplicates of each song, so that the songs then play twice.
What I really want to do is create an MP3 copy of everything in my iTunes library, and put those MP3 files into a collection of separate folders that follow the structure of the folders already in my iTunes library. Is there a way to do this?
Again, let me emphasize that there is no DRM issue here: All of these files were created by iTunes Match from CDs that I purchased and still own. The only question is how to put these files into a format that another device can play.

Back up your library. See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested approach.
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced take a note of the current media folder, then click the change button and create a new folder, perhaps inside inside the current one, or at the root of a drive where there is plenty of free space for your duplicates. E.g. C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\MP3 or D:\MP3. Do not consolidate media to the new path if/when prompted.
Take a note of the date and time. Select all of the tracks that you want convert and set the conversion running. When the conversion is complete reset the media folder back to the original path. Again do not consolidate.
Sorting the Songs list by date added, delete the recent additions to the library. If prompted to send files to the recycle bin (which would happen if you make the MP3 folder inside iTunes Media) say no.
Your library should be back as it was when you started, but you have a parallel set of MP3 files for your non-Apple device.

Convert Music while Keeping Play Count, etc.

I've just come to the conclusion that AAC sounds significantly better than MP3 at the same bitrate. I've also noticed from using my own music that a song that's 128-kbps AAC sounds just as good as 160-kbps MP3.
When I first started using iTunes (back in my Windoze days), I imported the majority of my music as 160-kbps MP3 and continued doing so after I got my MBP.
Now since I realized that I could have the same quality of music take up much less space if I use 128-kbps AAC, I would like to convert my MP3s to AAC. However, when doing this in iTunes, it does not copy the play count, last played, etc. While it wouldn't be a big deal if I only had a few hundred songs, I have over 2500 that I would want to convert.
Does anyone know of a way (or another application) that can convert my MP3s to AAC and keep play counts and other tags?

Sorry, but you cannot. Converting music formats creates a new separate file. It is supposed to work that way due to the differences in file qualities and other details. Playcount can only be manipulated by either playing the tracks through or editing the iTunes database (something I do not recommend)

Can't Add Music [iTunes]

I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 11. When i go to add a music file from iTunes, i go to my files, click music, click iTunes, click iTunes media, select the album, and finally select the song i want. After that, a failure report screen appears saying, "The importer reported a generic error." What exactly is the issue and is there any possible way i can fix it?

There is a problem with iTunes music and Premiere Elements (many versions).
Please convert your iTunes music to the wav version using iTunes.

If the music was just purchased on the iPod from iTunes Store, then sync with iTunes. You will be prompted to transfer purchased items to iTunes. You can also re-download prior purchases directly in iTunes: Download past purchases.
Otherwise, you will need a third-party utility for the chore such as Pod To Mac or Pod To PC.

This functionality has been moved under the File menu in iTunes 11, where you will find a submenu labelled "Create New Version." From here you can choose the format you would like it converted to. Do keep in mind that most music purchased from the iTunes Store (unless they're iTunes Plus purchases) cannot be converted.

Hi I'm wondering why when i convert music from original cds to my phone that the sound only comes out of one speaker??? is there a way to resolve this?? downloaded and mp3 music works fine with great sound.

Why don't you try this way:
- download and install iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
- Check in Preferences-->Extended (i believe)-->Import that AAC is selected
- rip your Audio CD via "Import CD" command
- sync with Nokia and play
If you do not hear stereo, then something is really wrong
