Convert non-english EDD to english

In older FM versions, if you installed the program in another language then the EDD was also structured with localized element names. That makes it impossibe to copy elements into a different EDD.
Is there a way to convert the EDD without creating each individual context rule from scratch? I suppose importing the old EDD structure (the EDD of the EDD so to speak) would be a bad solution because of the mismatching EDD versions.
Robert
P.S. I asked Scott via the FMx homepage before I realized that this might be of general interest. If I receive a direct answer I'll post it here.

Hi Robert,
I was using a english EDD (Version 8) for my test. The Generated "mother EDD" had also German element tags (using a german FM11). But the element names for the actual EDD were still english. So I reimported the changed EDD and had still vaild English elements.
The same would work for a old German EDD. As long as you only export/change/import without using a newly created EDD you stay in the language version of the original EDD.
A bit confusing - but just try it out and you'll see what happens.
This is only, if you want to change certain things in that EDD (namely the "only one insertchild element possible" restriction).
If you want to change all element names to get a localized version, you'd need either an already localized "mother EDD" or copy paste the element names from the old version to the new one.
Only solve one problem at a time
My initial thought was, that you would want to upgrade the EDD version to solve some shortcomings of the old EDD implementation rules and especially that issue we already discussed earlier.
That's why I tried to solve that single problem for you.
Cheers Alex

  • Converting German OS X to English

I can get the machine I want from a local discount supplier for 300 bucks less than from the Apple store, where the OS X is available in English. The discount supplier, though, has the OS X pre-installed only in German, but my German isn't very good and would like the operating system in English. Is it possible to convert the German OS to English from the installation DVD that I assume will come with the machine? Or is it possible to install an English OS version over the German version?

Once you purchase the computer, you can reinstall OS X in any one of at least 16 languages....including English.

  • Difference between english (uk) and english british keyboards

When I typed a message I found my iPhone was set to English (US) when I typed a message, in 'International' I added a 'British' keyboard and now I see I have English so I for some reason have English (UK) and English 'with British in grey underneath' in the keyboard list. Now I see when I go between dictionaries while typing that there are the options of English (UK) and English (US)...  can someone explain:
    1) Why English (US) shows when typing messages and yet it is no longer in the keyboards list?
    2) What is the difference between 'English (UK)' and 'English British'?
    Cheers

APPLET An Applet represents a bytecode that embedded in a Web Page.
Applets are executed on the Client Machine automatically the results are displayed at Client Side.
SERVLET A servlet is a Java Object that provides the implementation of javax.servlet Servlet interface.A servlet is a Server side java program which processes client requests and generates dynamic web content.
An Applet is a client side java program that runs within a Web browser on the client machine whereas a servlet is a server side component which runs on the web server. An applet can use the user interface classes like AWT or Swing while the servlet does not have a user interface. Servlet waits for client's HTTP requests from a browser and generates a response that is displayed in the browser
The following are the major differences between an Applet and an Application:
    a. Applets execute within a java enabled browser but an application is a standalone Java program outside of a browser. Both require a JVM (Java Virtual Machine).
    b. Application requires main() method to trigger execution but applets doesn't need a main() method. Applets use the init(),start(),stop() and destroy() methods for their life cycle.
    c. Applets typically use a fairly restrictive security policy. In a standalone application, however, the security policy is usually more relaxed

  • Hi there  I need to change language setting from English US into English uk, in a Mac OS X 10.5.8, how can I do that?

    Hi there
I need to change language setting from English US into English uk, in a Mac OS X 10.5.8, how can I do that?
    Many thanks

    Change your OS X language
Your Mac is set to display the language for the country in which you bought the computer. For example, if you bought your Mac in the United States, your Mac is set to English. If you bought your Mac in France, your Mac is set to French. But if you prefer to use a different language, you can.
If you bought your Mac in the U.S. but English isn't your preferred language,
you can switch the language via drag-and-drop.
Open System Preferences and click Language & Text.
    Click the Language tab.
In the Languages pane, drag your preferred language to the top of the list.
To apply the language throughout your system, restart your Mac or log out and log back in.
You can also customize various aspects of any application by choosing Preferences from the application menu. For example, to configure settings for the TextEdit application, open it from your Dock or the Applications folder, then from the TextEdit menu, choose Preferences. Other application preferences can be configured in similar fashion.

  • Converting non-English characters to their unicode representation

I have series of files/templates where each contains a locale specific language such as Chinese, Japanese or German. I need to find out how do I get their unicode representations so I can send as html formatted email?
I can already send one for the English template as html formatted email w/out a problem. I was able to find a sample of unicode representation of Japanese and send that as a test. But how do I get the temaplates that I have and convert their contents into unicode?
    Thanks in advance.
please dis-regard. I figured it out.
    chehrehk

You need to know what character encoding was used for the template text.
For example, you could have Japanese text encoded using UTF-8 or
encoded using ISO-2022-JP and the same Japanese characters would
be represented as a different sequence of bytes. Without knowing which
charset was used, you won't be able to convert the byte sequence back
into Unicode characters (e.g., to store in a Java String).
If you do know which charset was used, java.io.Reader will convert the
    byte stream into Unicode characters.
If the charset information is not available, there are heuristics that you
can use to try to guess the correct charset, but by their nature they're
    going to be wrong sometimes.

  • How do I convert a German PDF to English in Adobe Reader?

    Hello,
I have a set of instructions that were sent to me in German PDF.
There are 34 pages and the file size is 3.67mb (due to photos on each page).
How can i convert this to English?
    Thank you,
    Rikki

No way with just the free Reader; and an almost impossible task in Acrobat. The only reasonable way to do what you want is to work on the original file (the one from which the PDF file was produced)..

  • Problems for non-US citizens accessing english-only content

    Hello,
I recently switched to Mac OS X and became a registered Apple Developer. I live in Austria, my mother tongue is german, but I have to use english most of the time during work.
I already used the Apple Store (I enrolled in both the Mac Developer and iPhone Developer program). When registering, I had to provide an austrian address for the billing.
Now, I'd like to use the english content of iTunes, mainly the Developer on iTunes (iTunes_U), which I like a lot.
The problem is, I have to switch the contry setting in iTunes back to US when searching for english content. But everytime I reach some non-free content (which can be bought), iTunes complains that my account is valid for Austria only and get logged out and find myself on the landing page with german content. So I have to log in again, switch country back to US and do the game again. This happens very often (more than 10 times a day) and is very frustrating.
What do you suggest I can do?

First, I'd suggest you post questions in the iTunes for Mac forum. You're more likely to get useful assistance there than you will here in the iTunes for Windows forum where solutions are often quite different.
As to your problem, sorry, but I'm afraid that there is probably not going to be an easy solution for you. The iTunes Store in Austria is only available in German, so unless the institution whose content in iTunes U you wish to access makes that content available in English in the Austrian iTunes U or from another source, switching countries back and forth will continue to be necessary if you need that content in English.
The only suggestion I would have would be to set up a separate user account in Mac OS X, connect that account's iTunes to the US iTunes U site, and use Fast User Switching to go back and forth between the Mac OS X accounts. That might be less cumbersome than constantly having to switch iTunes between iTunes Stores.
    Regards.

  • Convert InDesign ME file to English?

    Hi,
I received an InDesign (Middle Eastern Edition) file from a client. Since I only have the English version of InDesign, I can't edit the text and story direction (see this blog post). Is there a way to convert this file?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

You shouldn't have a problem viewing or editing the text. But to use middle eastern features (like paragraph and character direction) you will need to purchase a plugin that gives you access to those features on the English version.
In-tools.com has a plugin called WorldTools that does this.

  • Converting an InDesign document from English into Mandarin (Chinese)

Using a Mac OS X Version 10.7.5. InDesign CS 5.5
A 4 page layout in English needs translating to Mandarin (Chinese). I have been provided the copy in Mandarin in a Word document.
Most of the Word doc looks fine other than a few characters show as rectangles.
I then asked the client to copy and paste each of the four pages into an email, all of the characters showed were in Mandarin.
I then copied and pasted from the email into the InDesign document only to find every character came up as a squares encased in a pink line.
I have reset the settings on the Mac in System Prefs and changed to Chinese (as there's no setting for Mandarin), it has made no difference what so ever.
Apple have advised InDesign has trouble with Asian fonts esp. double bite fonts.
I do not have the seriel number for InDesign on me and therefore Adobe will not assist in this matter.
    Can anyone help please?

Apparently the font applied to the text in InDesign does not contain Chinese characters. Select one that does.

That merely changes the interface, doesn't it? Your documents would not change -- all of your e-mails, for example, are still in English, right?

Don't worry about that, Apple doesn't know anything about fonts, advanced typesetting, PDFs, color management ...

Only way to change the default language (assuming you don't have a program called "CKJOS" installed, right?) is to Hard Reset the device.  When it reboots, it will give you a choice of language to choose IF the Palm device is a "International" version.  There were Palms made that came with only a single language on them!
If you have a single language version, you will not be given an offer to change the language...

  • Converting a German dictionary to English: USA dictionary

A German-based office sent me an InDesign file (CS3) and the Spell check is showing words as misspelled even through they are not. It is using a German dictionary, German: 1996 Reform, and that is what is creating the conflict.
How do I convert the German dictionary or get rid of that dictionary and make it use my preference of the Enlish: USA dictionary which I've defined in my InDesign Preferences. It appears that even though I tell it to use the US dictionary, it won't let go of the German dictionary.
Was is going on? Haben si ein answer? Danke!

The dictionary preference has nothing to do withthe language assigned to the text. That's a character-level attribute. The preference item allows you to pick which dictionary vendor to use in those cases where more than one dictionary is installed.
To change th language you must selet all the text, then choose the correct language from the language drop-down in the Character Panel or Control Panel. You might want to leave any German words set to German...
