Convert print dimensions of an InDD file or a PDF?

I have a CS4 INDD file that was prepared for me as 6" x 9" ...but I need it printed at 75% scale ( to equal 4.5" x 6.75"). Is there any way to convert an INDD OR a PDF file to a smaller size or would I need to literally copy & paste all the elements into another INDD file at a smaller dimension?
PS - I have heard of a plug-in called "Quite a box of Tricks", which apparently shrinks print sizes on PDF's like a print provider would. Not sure if that is something I need to buy or if I can do it through INDD or Acrobat Pro?
Thanks kindly,
Chemol

You cannot export an InDesign file to a PDF with scaling. You can print to a PostScript file with scaling then Distill that file into a PDF using Acrobat Distiller. You cn also pace an InDesign file or a PDF into a new InDesign file and scale the placed file in the new InDesign file. This file can be exported as PDF. I would go that way.

  • How to add watermark (print only) for  a indd file in java ?

    Hi EveryOne ,
I have a few indd files in the database .
I want to write  a java class , that puts a water mark (print only) on a few indd files based on some parameters.
I  have the binary , which after modification will have to be saved back to the DB as indd.
Can anyone suggest a way how this can be done.
    Thanks in advance.

Can't be done, for a realistic assessment of "can". InDesigns documents cannot reliably be created or modified without InDesign itself. (*)
If you need to do this on native InDesign documents, you have to buy and install it.
    * "Not true, there is always IDML". But that's not a 'binary'; and you cannot (**) "convert" a binary INDD to IDML and back again without InDesign.

  • How to export multiple indd files to individual PDF's?

Is there a way without using scripting, to simply take, say 10 single indesign files (all just single 3.5x2 business card layouts) and export them to a pre-defined PDF preset resulting in 10 single PDF's? (other than one at a time?)
I tried a few things from Acrobat 9 pro, one of them being File/export/export multiple files/  thinking that must be the ticket, but
    1) I can't find my pre-defined PDF preset in the "export to dropdown list" (but thats secondary, probably can add that in somehow, right?) and
    2) even when I just pick PDF/a or PDF/x it starts the process, then tries to open each indd doc but a message comes up saying it can't open the INDD  file(s) and nothing was processed.
Can someone help me with this?
    Thank you.

    Macinbytes,
Would you mind walking me through what you are doing?
In your screen shot, that window looks like the preferences panel, in which you can set your PDF preset, correct?
Here's what I have been trying.
    File/Create PDF/Batch Create Multiple files.
Eventually, I get this window. (output options)
Then when I hit OK, I get this error message saying the files cannot be opened.

  • Export indd file to Snippets [VBS]

Hello all i'm trying to modify an existing script that Exports indd files to pdf's. it goes through all the indd file and createsa pdf one page at a time and workds fine. However in converting it to do the same but convert to Snippet files  i'm having problems with the "idExportFormat.idInDesignSnippet" class and memebers  when i try somthing like
    myFilePath = myFolderName & "\" & myPageName & "_" & myBaseName & ".inds"
    myDocument.Export idExportFormat.idInDesignSnippet, myFilePath, False
I get an "The Specified object to does support the desired export format." error # 25398
if i remove the  ",myflePath, False" then i get a "Missing required parameter 'To' for export event".
The really anying this is if i change that to a
    myFilePath = myFolderName & "\" & myPageName & "_" & myBaseName & ".xml"
    myDocument.Export idExportFormat.idXML, myFilePath, False
    it works fine..
So there is somthing missing for the snippet export.

I've broken the problem down and started as small as possible.
To do the same thing but to export each page as a jpg's i can use the following script
    Set myInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Application.CS3")
    myFile = "c:\myTestFile.jpg"
    myInDesign.ActiveDocument.Export idExportFormat.idJpg, myFile, False
If i change that round a abit to customize it to export as inds snippets i would get
    Set myInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Application.CS3")
    myFile = "c:\myTestFile.inds"
    myInDesign.ActiveDocument.Export idExportFormat.idInDesignSnippet, myFile, False
This produces the following error " The specified object does not support the desired export format"  - Line 3
This is because the object i am speifiying is "ActiveDocument" which when selected (manually) cannot be exported as a Snippet.
What I need to do is cycle trough my pages selecting Texframes of which they are multiple on each page and export them as Snippets.
    Can anyone help please?

  • Printing issue when converting an .indd file to .pdf

    All,
I have two .indd files that loose color when printing after .pdf conversion. The first file looses all color and changes the text font. The second file prints correctly on the first page but not the second. The seond .indd file looses it's color all the way through.
When I view the .pdf, they both look fine. Also, If I print directly from indesign, it prints fine.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

You need to provide us with more information.
How are you creating the PDF files? Export (recommended)? Print to PostScript (strongly discouraged)? With exactly what settings?
If you examine the PDF file in Acrobat, does the document information indicate that all the fonts are embedded?
More information and we can try to begin assisting you.

  • Page numbers from placed indd file not printing

I've created a saddle-stitch booklet 1up in InDesign CS4. I've got auto page numbers on the master page, but when I place it in another InDesign document 2up for proofing, the page numbers are visible, but don't output either to an exported PDF or a PostScript file printed to be Distilled. Please advise.

It's a bug. Anything on the master page of a placed INDD file just
    disappears...not good.

I installed the InDesign CC Testversion and now i try to open INDD-Files from earlier Version. Always i get the error "This file is made by an earlier Version...." but it´s CC that is the latest Version. What is the problem ? Should i have to convert the files ?

Adobe has been using confusing version names for at least five years.
There are now two versions labeled CC, version 9 and version 10 (also known as CC 2014). Version 10 is the latest, and if you attempt to open a version 10 file in Version 9 that is not fully patched you will get an error message telling you that the file cannot be opened. The latest patch for version 9 should use a cloud-based service at Adobe to convert version 10 files to IDML and allow you to open that.
I suspect you may be using an older operating system. Version 10 requires that your system runs at least OS X 10.7 or Windows 7 SP1 and if you are not it will not even be offered to you.

  • Why am I getting faint random ink spots on my inkjet prints from indd files?

I am running OS10.4 with CS2 on an Intel Imac with 2 GB ram and an Epson C88 printer. I made files in Photoshop and did a layout of the files with indesign. The psd and tif files on Photoshop print nicely without the faint random ink spots. The indd files which contain multiples of the psd and tif files print with the faint random ink spots. Please help. Thanks.
    Alan

If the spots aren't identical, its more likely that your printer heads need to be cleaned. If they
    i were
identical, here's what I was thinking about the percentage:
Suppose your Photoshop image has a dark subject against a light background, and there were some very small dark spots in the background that you missed or didn't want to remove. If you print it from Photoshop at 100%, the spots might not be large enough to trigger the printer to deposit some ink droplets on the page. But, if you enlarge the image in InDesign, it may make the spots large enough to show on the page.
Mind you, that's just a shot in the dark. It could be something totally unrelated.

  • How can i convert a .indd file into pdf

    please help on this
How can i convert .indd file to pdf file using .net c#
please share some code sample for a better help

    Hi there,
There's actually an easy streamlined way to do this using Acrobat.com. Here are the steps:
    1. Log in to Acrobat.com with your Adobe ID.
    2. On the left, you'll see a navigation menu that includes the item "Import and Edit". Click that.
    3. Choose the .doc (Word) file you want to convert and upload it to Buzzword.
    4. After making sure that it looks the way you want it to, go to the top menu (still in Buzzword now, not the organizer where all your files live) and click the document menu. There will be an option to "Export" - choose that.
    5. When prompted to select filetype, choose "Adobe PDF" and press OK.
    6. It'll save to your desktop, so now you have to get it into your acrobat.com organizer. To do that, close the Buzzword document by clicking the little "x" in the upper right corner, under the Sign Out button. This'll get you back to your organizer, where you can choose "Import" from the left nav menu again. This time choose your new PDF file.
    7. Select the  file icon in the organizer and click the Share button. Or, select Share  from the file context menu.
    8. Select Allow Anyone With A  Link To Share This Document to set the document to open access, and then  click Copy Embed Code. The necessary HTML code to embed the preview is  copied onto the clipboard.
    9. Open the HTML file and paste  the code into the file. The Flash previewer can display any file type  that you can convert to PDF.
Hope this helps! Good luck, and let us know how it works out.

  • When I open an indd file in InDesign CC, first it says file converting, then I get font errors?

    Can someone please help.
    thanks!

    Peter,
I didnt buy the licenses, I had the person who originally built the document send me the files, however its still not working.  I have the files in a Document Fonts folder in the same file where the indd file is located.
Should I put the Document Fonts folder in the file labeled fonts within InDesign under program files?
The file came to me as a zip file and when opening it, it asked if I would like to encrypt the files, when i agreed it said there were errors in encrypting the Document Fonts. I really dont know what else to do?

  • I am trying DWF files to a PDF format but only half of my drawing is converting.  Can anyone help?  Is it a setting?  The original file is an autocad file.

How do you convert AutoCAD DWF files to a PDF format.  These are blue prints and I was told by Adobe to use the Acrobat DC program so that's what I did but now I am only getting half of a drawing on a page.  Is this as simple as a setting?

    Hi subscription question,
I've checked your account; it looks like you tried to place two separate orders this morning, but it doesn't appear that either went through. However, it does sound as though you've been able to convert a file successfully. What happens when you log in to your account at https://cloud.acrobat.com/files? Do you see your converted file there? All converted files are automatically stored in your online account, even when you convert from within Reader.
    Best,

Hi! I'm having trouble opening a indd-file. It was sent to me as a zip-fil along with the used fonts and links. When I try to open the file, I'm getting this error: "Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by another application". I've tried to look up this error both here in these forums and through google, but can't find a similar case. Hope someone can help me with this. Please let me know if you need more information/details, and I'll provide. Thanks!

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I'm suspecting it to come from a mac user, if that could influence the case...
It does come from a Mac, as is proven by the fonts, which are of no use on my Windows machine, but that doesn't prevent my CS4 to open it without any problem. It seems to me it's a perfectly regular CS2 file.
Just for cheers I set the file to Read-only, but my InDesign opens it regardless (again as a copy, because it's a "converted" file).
Could it be something in your environment? No network read/write privileges, insufficient free hard disk space, stuff like that?

  • Script to open INDD files, run script, and close

Hello, I'm looking for a script that will open a folder of Indesign files, open each one, run a selected script, then close each file.
RIght now I'm using the Batch convert script, to convert INDD to INDD and run the script in between (then I delete the extra INDD file). But I'm trying to eliminate the conversion element, just need the script part of it.
    Anyone have any help? Thanks.

Here's my whole code if it helps. I'm wondering if the script is moving too fast. I think that the first files are still PDFing while the others are opening and closing. Could that be it? I'm not sure why else the for loop for the PDFing is only working on the first file.

  • How do I convert an excel file to a pdf, NOT a pdf to excel

Until this year, I've been running OSX 10.5 Leopard. When I wanted to convert a Microsoft for Mac Excel worksheet to a pdf file, I simply clicked File/Print/PDF (in the lower left corner of the dialogue box)/then, Save as pdf. No problem, perfect pdf file. Upon upgrading to Mavericks this year, the resulting pdf file is filled with a checkerboard pattern that effectively renders the file useless if read onscreen. How can I get rid of the checkerboard?

  • ?  Printing a PDF file to Adobe PDF messes up everything

Here are three questions that may be related to each other.  I've wanted to ask them for a long time but kept hoping they would somehow resolve themselves.  Any advice would be appreciated.
    1. When I print a PDF file to Adobe PDF as an image, the black color (even the fonts) becomes gray and blurry.  The selection to print as an image is made in Print (to PDF) - Advanced Print Setup - Settings Custom / Print as Image (resolution 600 dpi, which is the highest available choice).  This happens regardless of what settings I choose  in Print - Properties (Standard, High Quality Print, etc.).
    2. Running OCR on occasion does something similar.  The letters become blurry and grayish.  Everything is more difficult to read after OCR. It's as if Adobe has chosen to substitute the font or color for something blurry.  It's strange.
    3. Sometimes OCR doesn't make things worse.  The quality doesn't deteriorate.  In this case I wonder whether the quality should actually improve rather than stay as is.  If a letter is recognized despite the fact that its image is not perfect, shouldn't it be substituted in the document by a perfectly solid letter with no defects by using one of the regular Adobe fonts?  Should a real font be used instead of an image of the letter that has been recognized in OCR?
Are my settings wrong or am I doing something wrong?  I'm using Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
    Thanks in advance.

What version of Acrobat? What OS? What are your choices when creating the OCR? Without knowing how you are doing things, it is hard to answer.
It is not clear why you want to create images in a PDF from a current PDF. For a black type style, it is probably better to use a preflight script to convert to gray-scale first and then do your graphic conversion (I am not asking why you want to do this, but just trying to address your question).
