Convert selection(s) to ACC possible while iPod is connected to my computer

Hi all... I don't see how, but I would like to convert several albums (large AIFF files) already on my iPod to an ACC format. Must I delete the large files and reinstall the tunes in te ACC format? Thanks, JLMacintosh
PowerBook G4 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   3rd Gen iPod

If you have songs that are AIFF in your iTunes library, you can convert it using iTunes.
Go to iTunes prefs -> Advanced -> Importing and set it to the format and bit rate you want (I use AAC 160 kbps).
Select the songs you want to convert, go to menu Advanced and select Convert selection to AAC (Advanced Audio Codec (not ACC)).
It will convert and add the files to the library. The original AIFF files will still be there. Delete them from iTunes and the HD when it asks.
Resync the iPod.

i am having major issues! this does not work i dont understand..does the ipod have to be off while pressing the buttons if so how is it possible if it is connected to the computer either way it turns on..and when i tried these steps while the ipod was on it still doesnt  work it just asks me “slide to power off” please someone help me i just cant seem to put my ipod in DFU mode

To get the iPod in recovery mode and DFU mode you first have to turn the iPod off.
Just what is the problem you are tying to resolve?
Sometimes you have to let the battery fully drain if you can't turn the iPod off. After charging for at least hour try again.

  • My ipod says "connect to your computer. use itunes to restore."

My ipod says "connect to your computer. use itunes to restore."
So I plug it into the computer and itunes says it needs to restore, so I click restore, everything seems to go fine, and it says the ipod needs to restart, it does, has a lil progress bar go across the ipod screen, then itunes detects the ipod again and says it needs to be restored again. This is an endless loop, anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? Have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if restoring doesn't work, it may be of some help: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore

when ever my ipod is connected to the computer and download an app it wont install in itunes 11

    What happens when you try?
    Can you sync music?
Have you synced apps from this computer/iTunes library before? You an only sync app from the one syncing computer you can have.
Are the apps compatible with your model iPod/iOS
Do you have restrictions set that would prevent installation of those apps?

  • I have just bought an ipod classic, I already have an ipod nano.  The new ipod was connected to the computer to charge and it named itself with my name on the old nano, how do I get the computer to recognise the new one

I have just bought an ipod classic, I already have an ipod nano.  The new ipod was connected to the computer to charge and it named itself with my name on the old nano, how do I get the computer to recognise the new one?

My mistake, it was nothing to do with format.  It woldn't sync because my movies were HD.  HD movies won't sync to an iopd classic 160 GB but when you purchase a HD movie, itunes gives you a SD vervsion of the movie which is compatible with the ipod.  Just needed to go to store, click movies, click purchased and untick the HD box and there you have the SD versions.  Download the SD versions and then sync your ipod and bobs you uncle, movies are on the ipod

  • ITunes on my computer does not recognize my IPod when connected to my computer

When my Ipod is connected to the computer, it does not recognize there is a device. I have been able to sync my Ipod to my Itunes in almost 4 months. Songs transfer to Ipod but the playlists do not. I have tried to figure out the problem and nothing has worked so far to correct the problem. I hope someone is able to help me.

    Hello bre8613,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning recognition issues:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch may not appear under Devices in iTunes after you connect it to your Windows PC. Any of the following may also occur:
The device cannot be restored in iTunes.
An exclamation point, question mark, plug symbol, or "X" appears next to the device's entry in Device Manager.
During an update or restore, the device may no longer be recognized by iTunes

  • Unable to listen to music while iPod is connected to computer

Whenever I connect the iPod(5th Gen) to my computer it shows Do Not Disconnect message and am unable to listen to music. Also, if music is playing previously, it stops automatically. Can anyone help? Just been two days since I bought my iPod

Try this for your Do Not Disconnect issue:
Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes and also have a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you have your iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case use Safely remove Hardware icon or check this link: "Disconnecting iPod from your computer
    " http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61135
Just another point to note, your iPod needs to be in manual mode to listen to it while connected to your PC. In automatic mode you will see the iPod library greyed out and inaccessible.

  • Why can't I use the Column Browser for my iPod when connected to the computer?

In iTunes 11, I can use the Column Browser while viewing my music library on the computer.  But it's inexplicably not available for viewing the music on my iPod when it's connected to the computer to sync.
The Column Browser is the simplest, easiest, most elegant way for me to review what's on my iPod, and create Playlists from my music and CD books.  It was available in 10.7 and is available on the computer, why not the iPod????!!!???
Why mess around changing something that isn't broken - after all these years why can't that option still be available?  It doesn't have to be the default, just be available. Will I have to downgrade to 10.7 yet again????
And you don't even have a relevant category for me to choose from below!!  It makes sense to me that you provide a general "Using iTunes" category.

Thanks for your reply, but I've already done that and the Column Browser options are completely grayed out.  I've taken a screen shot and hope I can paste it in here.  You'll see I have the sidebar open.  That's the way I prefer to deal with iTunes.
This happened after I updated to iTunes 11.0.4.  Perhaps that changed the setting options. I think I had the Column Browser option prior to that, but I just got a new iPod and I was busy loading stuff, so not completely sure if it worked before the update.  But I think I would have noticed, because it bugs me so much not to have the option.

  • My ipod wont connect to the computer but will connect to an ipod stereo

I have a 2nd generation nano that I have had for 2 years, but not used very much. It has always worked fine and still does however it wont connect to the computer at all. I have tried different ipod usb cables and different computers. It will charge and play on an ipod stereo. I would like to be able to hook it up to the computer so I can put more music on it. Has anyone had this problem before?

Update to the newest version of iTunes if that doesn't work
    Try uninstalling the drivers,
    Plug in your iPod
Right click on My Computer and click on Manage
that will bring you to the Computer Management
On the left hand side click on device manager
on the right side click on the plus sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
it will show a list, in that list locate iPod or USB mass storage device
    right click and select uninstall
Unplug your iPod and plug it back in
Windows should automatically start installing them again
if nothing pops up then right click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers
and choose scan for hardware changes

  • Unable to access song list in ipod when connected to the computer.

My daughter loaned her ipod to a friend who tried to download some music to her ipod. A box opened asking if she wanted to delete all her songs from her ipod and she was given yes, no, and cancel. She pushed cancel and got out.
My daughters ipod has not worked correctly since.
When connected to the computer and logged into iTunes she can see all the songs in her ipod but they are light in color and she can not play or pick songs from the list. She can't delete anything from her list in the ipod. She can play her music from the computer list just fine.
What has happened and can we somehow get her ipod back to working correctly?

    Hello jhfields,
So, you are saying that you are unable to pick and choose songs from the Music list for the iPod while it is plugged into iTunes?
If the songs are grayed out, it is probably because the iPod is set up to automatically sync. In order to play music from the iPod through iTunes, you have to enable the "manually manage music and videos" option from under the iPod's Summary tab.
Does that do the trick for you?

    Hello Sonia,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried a simple reset of the iPod while it is plugged in? To do this, press and hold the Center and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
If no luck the first time, I would recommend attempting it a few more times. Otherwise, make sure to try different USB ports on your computer as well as a different connector cable if one is available.
    I would start there.
