Convert selection to AAC (iTunes 5)

After inserting a CD and then trying to covert selection to AAC I get the message "Could not convert the selected songs. The songs may be write-protected or of the wrong type" and then "Eror occured while converting the file. An unknown error occured (-48).
This never happened in previous version and yes I've tried various CDs - all give the above message?

You don't select the songs on a CD and then convert selection to AAC. You click on the Import button in the top right corner of the winder.

To convert a song's file format:
    1. Choose iTunes > Preferences, click General, and then click Import Settings.
    2. In the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the format you want to convert songs to, and then click OK to save the settings.
    3. Select one or more songs in your library and choose Advanced > Create [Format] Version.
The song in its original format and the newly converted song appear in your library.

  • During "Convert Selection to AAC" get "The disk could not be read from..."

    Hi,
I'm trying to convert an AIFF file to ACC using the "Convert Selection to AAC" menu command in iTunes 7.6. When I try it runs through the entire conversion but then at the very end an error pops up that says:
"Error occurred while converting the file. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I have never had this issue before but I did just upgrade to 10.5. I tried running "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility but that did not fix the problem.
    Thanks for any help!

I just experienced the same problem. I tried restarting. I tried repairing permissions. I tried excess profanity. Nothing worked. Then I read Diane Wordsmith's response, and when I went to the music folder on my hard drive, I discovered the actual problem.
Long ago, I had moved iTune's music library from my root drive to another internal hard drive. When I went to check the permissions of that folder, I discovered that this internal hard drive only had 27 MBs of empty file space left.
The disk could not be written to not because of a permissions problem but because of a *physical space* issue.
I changed iTune's music library, once again, to another--larger--internal hard drive, and, voila, the problem vanished.
    I hope this helps.

  • I bought 3 records converted now in AAC. iTunes doesn't accept conversion.

I bought 3 Apple now converted in AAC. iTunes doesn't allow conversion in MP3.

So are you saying you purchase thee albms from the iTunes Store (which come in the AAC format) and want to convert them to MP3's?  Is that correct?

  • Why am I given option to "convert selection to aac"?

Help with AAC and my library being added all at once to Itunes
I just downloaded Itunes 5.0 for the first time. I am about to purchase an Ipod. Most of my music was downloaded via napster and lots of it is wma protected (not sure if that is relevant to my question).
I then looked at the 200 or so tracks in my itunes library and I right clicked on the tracks and it gives me the option to convert to AAC.
Why does it give me that option? I thought this happened when I added all my tracks on my computer to Itunes?
    Thanks,
    Brad

CDMA phones don't work the way your asking. See this support article:

  • Convert selection for ipod?

When I right click a video file in my library, "convert selection does not show up". It just says "Convert selection to AAC" (which is my importing file-type.)
How do I get it to say "convert selection for ipod"??

Like someone else said, iTunes needs to be updated.
Also, know that the option only comes up if the video is not in iPod format.

  • Converting Bit Rate of iTunes Purchased songs

I am in the process of converting all my music files to 112 bit to allow for mores space on my iPod. However, the songs I have gotten of iTunes through the music store are protected and it won't allow me to convert them . My method of converting the songs is to select them in itunes and then go to the pulldown menu "Advanced" and then to select "Convert Selection to AAC" and subsiqently convert the bit rate. Is there any way to convert the "protected" songs to a smaller bit rate?
    Thank you for your help.

    Robert
Short of burning the track to a cd and then re-ripping them at the lower bitrate, no, there is no way to reduce the sound quality of your purchased music.

  • Convert selection(s) to ACC possible while iPod is connected to my computer

Hi all... I don't see how, but I would like to convert several albums (large AIFF files) already on my iPod to an ACC format. Must I delete the large files and reinstall the tunes in te ACC format? Thanks, JLMacintosh
    PowerBook G4 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   3rd Gen iPod

If you have songs that are AIFF in your iTunes library, you can convert it using iTunes.
Go to iTunes prefs -> Advanced -> Importing and set it to the format and bit rate you want (I use AAC 160 kbps).
Select the songs you want to convert, go to menu Advanced and select Convert selection to AAC (Advanced Audio Codec (not ACC)).
It will convert and add the files to the library. The original AIFF files will still be there. Delete them from iTunes and the HD when it asks.
    Resync the iPod.

  • Can I quickly convert WMA to AAC?

I am converting wma to aac and i am having to convert one song at a time. Is there anyway to select and convert an entire cd without having to convert each individual song? This is beating me down...

Click on the first track in the list and then while holding down the shift key click on the last one. This will highlight the selection, go to Advanced>Convert selection to AAC and it will do them all in turn.

  • HT1473 I get a message the songs are in wma format and iTunes will convert them to AAC format - do I select Convert or Skip?

I get a message the songs are in wma format and iTunes will convert them to AAC format - do I select Convert or Skip. I ripped new CDs I bought using Windows Media Player and they are saved on my C drive. I have done this before but cannot do it now.

If you want to play them in iTunes, choose "Convert."  This will allow iTunes to create new AAC versions and add those new versions to your iTunes library.
The original WMA files will still be in the folder(s) wherever they currently are.  iTunes will ignore the WMAs once it has the converted versions.  It is then up to you if you wish to keep or delete your WMA origninals.

  • I know how to convert WMA to AAC/MP3 for Itunes

I'm not sure if someone else has figured this out or not, but I figured out how to convert WMA files to AAC or MP3 for Itunes. First open the file using Quicktime. I think you need the Flip4Mac program. I'm not sure and you also need Quicktime pro. Choose Save. Select standalone movie. Choose location. It will convert song to movie, then import all your movies you selected. Organize Itunes by "Kind". Select all of your new movies files. Choose Advanced and convert to your appropriate file type.
I looked for a while and couldn't find a good way to change wma to aac. This takes a little bit, but it works. What do you think? It works for me.

Or, as has been pointed out in numerous posts, you can use EasyWMA.

  • Problems converting song from AAC to MP3 in iTunes

    hi,
I have just downloaded some songs from the iTunes store and they download in the AAC format, I usually right hand click on a song and convert it to MP3 file, however I have one song "animal by neon trees" that it keeps coming up with an error but it says it is an unknown error. this is what it says
error occured while converting the file "animal". an unknown error occurred (-3)
has anyone else encountered this issue??
    please help
ps. i have the latest version of itunes, i have also converted other songs today not a problem.

    Hi affilgraph,
Yes, it can be done. First, go to iTunes preferences, choose "Advanced", click on the "Import" Tab and select "MP3 encoder" next to "Import Using". Close the window. Now select the files in questions, go to the "Advanced" menu and choose "Convert selection to MP3". However, if your files are already encoded to AAC this will not decrease the size of your library significantly AND you will lose sound quality. In addition, converting your library in one go might bring your computer to its knees risking data loss. So, I would recommend buying a bigger HD instead.

  • Converting selections to MP3 option in iTunes

When using convert selection to MP3 in iTunes is there any options that need to be configured or are they set to default?
    Thanks.

The conversion settings default from whatever you have set in your import settings. The default setting for iTunes is AAC so if you want to convert songs to MP3 then you have to change your import settings to MP3. If you are using iTunes 8 go to Edit>Preferences>General and click on Import Settings, change your option to MP3 for example. Go back to your library and highlight the songs you want to convert and go to the Advanced menu at the top of your iTunes window and choose "Create MP3 version": iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format
