Convert to 128 bit rate doesn't want to "go"

sometimes, a few hundred songs will make it but then i will get an error i can get around it by not syncing that album but if it has converted 75 songs how do i keep them in my iphone when i stop the synC?

I am experiencing the same issue. Most of my music is in Apple Lossless Format but to try and fit it onto my 80GB iPod I set Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC and start syncing, but usually only a few songs get copied before I get the following errors:
Attempting to copy to the disk "iPod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
iTunes could not copy "Song name" to the iPod "iPod" because the file could not be read or written.
It appears to happen on the same files, but the files seem to be be fine as I can play them in iTunes. Also if I switch off the conversion setting, the files sync without issue.
I have tried restoring the iPod several times, tried different lists of music, but this keeps on happening.

  • 320 & 128 bit rate in iPhone.

I haven't found an option that lets you choose the bit rate you want to convert your music to in my iPhone. All my music is 320 bit rate or lossless... So it's going to take a chunk of space. I'm converting the music I want on my iPhone to a 128 bit rate and throwing that in a playlist to sync to my phone... which I really don't want to do because now I have the same albums twice and it's makes my library messy. Any quick fix or solutions?

I can't speak for iPods cause I never bought one. I've always been the kind of person who rather have one device (Moto Razr V3i w/ iTunes) then two devices (reg. phone and an iPod). My phone would covert the music to 128 bit rate to optimize space. It would make sense that apple would give us an option to convert the size of our music files to optimize space as well. This making duplicate albums in two different bit rates is a hassle! Unless you've gone into Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing... the music you rip on your computer is going to be a defult ACC 128 bit rate format. Which there is nothing wrong with. If you share music with friends and they don't have iTunes there's going to be an issue. So I changed my encoder to MP3 and also adjusted the audio quality. You tend to lose lower frequencies when music is ripped at a low bit rate.

  • Uncompressing 128 bit rate

Is it possible to uncompress 128 bit rate to something like 160 or higher? I see the option of switching imported songs to higher quality under preferences. when I switch then convert the song in iTunes I see a change in the memory of the song, but is it really changing the quality of sound. If this works then what is the point of DRM free music having 256 quality if you can upconvert, if this is possible.

if you are throwing out the cd and want to keep your songs close to cd quality.
Don't throw out your CDs! They are the best quality version of the song, and they are not subject to loss in hard drive crashes. If you are really tight on storage space, toss the plastic jewel cases and save only the discs.
by the way what is cd rate?
Technically it is 1411 kb/s, although because of the different coding scheme, that number can't really be compared to the bit rate of a compressed format like AAC or mp3. It would be "reasonably accurate" to think of CD quality as equal to a compressed format at 320.

  • 128 bit rate AAC?

Is this the normal audio quality (128 bit rate AAC)for purchased music from iTunes store? I thought it was higher than this...? Thanks in advance for the info.

I hear apple is going to start delivering tracks in a higher bit rate. 128 is ok, but it is not good enough for critical listening.

  • How do I convert Ineligible (low bit rate, language lesions) to be eligible

I have a huge amount of language lessions that are 64kb encodings.  They are absolutely fine for my use.
But my paid iTunes Match subscription refuses to upload them.  I tried converting one to AAC but that did not help.
As I understand it, there are two problems: the low bit rate, and the genre is Books & Spoken .. both of which are not uploaded.
The genre is fine, I can change that to something that is "eligible".  But the bit rate is a problem.
So how do I manage these language lessions so that the ones I want in iTunes match are elegible?  I don't have all the original CDs and certainly don't want to re-rip them anyway, there are too many!
My guess is that I have to find an audio converter program and have them upgraded to whatever bitrate iTunes Match needs, and to change the genre to an elegible name, right?

Thanks guys.  It apparently works to simply convert to AAC 128kbs.  The genre lable seems to be OK as Books & Spoken.
There were some bumps along the way, ending up with 3 of each lesson at one point! .. But I think this is all going to work just fine.
It does seem bizzare that this rule is in place, and certainly is going to end up with a LOT of unhappy customers.
Folks should be aware that the AAC conversion creates a copy so the originals can be saved after the conversion, then deleted from the Library.

  • Sync at Higher than 128 bit rate to iphone?

Does anyone know why apple does not give an option to sync songs at a bit rate other than 128 kbps (or the bit rate in itunes)? Some of us would buy iphones with more memory if we could sync at 256.

    Chris,
Thanks for the reply. What would happen if I burn an album from 128 to wav file so i could listen to it on any cd player, then imported it back as 256? Still no quality change? This is why I ask, I accedentally deleted my whole library, fortunetly I had most of it backed up on DVDs. I thought this could be a good opportunity for me to evolve to 256.
Is the concept, if I bought an album from itunes at 128, that is best quality it will ever be? The same album bought at "sears", imported at 256 would be better quality? That makes sense.
Thats exact thing that will happen. Lossy formats (like MP3 or AAC) cannot be improved in any way from their current encoding rate. You already lost the information long ago and you cannot get it back no matter what you do with it.

  • How to upgrade bit rate of ripped CD's w/o losing edited track info

I am in the process of re-ripping my music library to iTunes at a higher bit rate.
An annoying thing that happens is that track information that I have edited (e.g. corrected erroneous track names, added artist info, or other changes to the info automatically gathered from Gracenote), or custom Genres that I use, automatically resets to the Gracenote values. Sometimes the changes I've made are quite comprehensive, entailing a lot of work.
(Album art is not removed, however. That seems to be the only field that isn't affected.)
What I want to do is just pop the CD in, click "Replace" in the dialogue, and have iTunes replace only the audio data itself - +leaving everything else untouched,+ thank you very much.
I have tried disconnecting my Internet connection prior to the operation, but for some reason, this does not help - the information is still reset to whatever was originally gathered from Gracenote. (Is the default information cached somehow, I wonder...)
So: How should I go about achieving the above? How do I preserve my laboriously edited information when re-ripping my CD's?

If you understood what I mean, you'll understand why it loses the information that's associated with the original.
My own experience is when you re-rip a CD and iTunes asks you if you want to replace your current version, it WILL retain all your custom data you added to the tracks including ratings, playcounts, and tags like song name, comments, etc.
    cderalow wrote:
it's annoying, I know. Which is why I'll generally choose to convert over re-rip.
Except converting doesn't gain you anything and may even degrade the tracks. The original poster wants a higher bitrate than originally ripped at. Converting up in bit rate won't gain you any quality. Re-ripping from the original CD will.

  • Converting to 128 kbps

In iTunes 9.03, if you have an iPod, you can choose to convert all higher bit rates to 128 kbps, so you can put more songs on your iPod. What I want to know is: does this conversion affect the actual file, or converts iTunes it specially for the iPod (so the file on your Mac, with the higher bit rate, isn't gone)?

After much testing, I have, to my satisfaction, verified that there is a problem with iTunes 9.1.1 (11) new [Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC] function. After enabling the function for the first time, and all songs had been converted, I discovered that all songs with lyrics had been REMOVED from my iPod touch (64GB 3rd Generation). Thereafter, at EVERY sync, the SAME songs were "updated" but never showed up on the iPod.
I removed the lyrics from the songs, re-synced, and the songs were transferred to the device.
I then added-back the lyrics and synced the device. The songs were then placed on the iPod WITH the lyrics but the songs are now, again, re-updating (each song) at EVERY sync.
I plan to wait until an update to iTunes is released. If this issue is not corrected after that, I will RESTORE the device and report back.

  • How can  edit the Bit Rate on my music?

    How do I do that????

Thank you Airsculpture- I have gone into the menu bar on iTunes, but I can'rt seem to find the location where to choose or select a highter Biz Rate. Can you give me a little more guidance please?
Limnos- I understand it will not improve the quality. I just need to increase the Biz Rate so it is accepted on iTunes Match. Any Biz rate lower than 128, will not be accepted.

On my system (Windows XP Pro SP2, Premiere CS3) any attempt to use flash

Quicktime colors are washed out and lacks contrast.
Using video from a Canon XL H1 and Aspect HD, Windows Media looks great.

"Convert" tends to be a confusing term. What iTunes does is make another copy of the track at the lower bit rate for transfer to the Shuffle. Your original, higher bitrate file remains untouched.
Actually, iTunes converts the track on-the-fly while loading it on the shuffle. NO copy of the downconverted track is kept. The same process will occur IF you decide to delete the track from the shuffle and then happen to want to put it on the shuffle again.

  • When I Tick Convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps and press sync it says are you sure you want to remove apps. Help please

Hi, I recently put music on my ipad (manually, I do not sync because I dont like leaving music in my itunes) I realised they take up a lot of space because of the bit rate so I went into iTunes and pressed "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" Then I pressed apply and I got the message "Are you sure you want to remover 113 apps......." I have checked and sync Apps is unticked so my question is why does it say this and is there a way around it. Also if i tick convert to AAC will it convert the songs already on my ipad or just ones I add from now on.

Why not? That's what it is for.
So Restoring your iPad when it crashes and losing all your music is acceptable to you?
Then I pressed apply and I got the message "Are you sure you want to remover 113 apps......." I have checked and sync Apps is unticked so my question is why does it say this and is there a way around it.
Since you now want to sync the iPad and have told it you do not want to sync apps, it will remove them all.
Check the apps you want on the iPad.
Also if i tick convert to AAC will it convert the songs already on my ipad or just ones I add from now on.
It will only convert new songs added to the iPad.

  • My iPod Nano 6th Gen, Crashes whilst performing "Convert Higher Bit Rate to 128 AAC" in iTunes.

    Hi Guys,
    I have a 6 week old iPod Nano 16Gb.
I have about 2500 songs, which would be coming up to 18Gb, so instead of selecting which albums I want, I've taken the lazy approach and ticked the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 AAC".
As you all know, it does the coversion on the fly, roughly about 8 sec on average per song. Being a slow Core Duo T2500, it takes its time and I have to leave it over night whilst it does it.
Come back in the morning and the watch had the 'White Screen of Death', displaying on the screen like the Apple IIe days of "OK to disconnect"
Then it goes blank and then it says iTunes (picture of a plug), under that, connect to restore.
Plug it into iTunes and it does a full restore with nothing in it.
I hope I explained it ok.
Im kinda think its not the Nano, as I've filled it up with music and photos to its capacity and works fine.
Would it be something to do with "Enable disk use", to stop it from connecting and disconnecting after syncing?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks Guys.

I have the same problem and can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I rebuilt my iTunes library and still my 6G nano crahes whenever I load an AAC tune onto it.  MP3s and podcasts all work fine, it's just the AACs...
Just *loading* an AAC song will cause the Nano 6G to reboot as soon as it disconnects from Itunes. It will then reboot a few times and then go into recovery mode. :-(
