Convert to 30fps for NTSC

Hello all,
I tried converting a DV piece to 24fps via Nattress film effects but the result is too shaky. If I didn't blow up the picture to 133% to give it the widescreen look I might have gotten away with the 24fps but no dice.
So, I tried converting it to 30 fps and it didn't look as bad. Will I be able to get this into a NTSC format DVD? Or will I have any other problems down the road for NTSC?
Thanks in advance,
Pete

I haven't gotten an answer out for this but I wanted to clean up my unresolved questions.

  • Authoring a DVD for both PAL & NTSC regions - convert pal project to ntsc?

    Hello gurus
I have programmed and built a DVD in DVDSP for PAL regions. But my cleint has come back to me and asked for an NTSC version.
I have re-encoded all assets for NTSC but am now struggling to find a simple way to convert the programming. DVDSP is asking me to remove all assets and menus and basically re-programme the whole disk again...
Do any of you peeps have any quick fixes???
    Thank you in advance
    Jay

There is no reason why you can't save the PAL project as a new project - NTSC version - then take out all the assets that are video (and therefore PAL) then change the project to NTSC settings. This way the basic structure is there - you will need to reconnect stuff etc and you may find that buttons you have created "disappear" from the menu screens (due to the different frame size of NTSC and PAL)
I have done this in the past where projects had scripts and the like and were fairly complex - it's not ideal but might save some time in redoing the project

  • PAL-authored Final Cut Express project...how to burn to DVD for NTSC audien

Not sure if this is possible...and through searching a few previous posts it sounds like it may require additional software...but what the heck, thought I'd ask anyway ! I operate in UK and have made several FCE movies for friends in the UK which I've burnt onto a DVD and sent to them as gifts. Now I want to do the same for a friend in the States, and I'm wondering how to go about the PAL>>NTSC issue. Would it be easiest to just take the PAL-dvd and pay somebody at Jessops etc to convert it onto a NTSC dvd for me? I don't mind paying a few quid for someone else to do it, especially if it would require me to go out and buy all kinds of software to be able to do it myself... But I'm worried about how the picture files, music, titling, special effects etc would come out. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks.

Toast 7.x is able to burn a PAL-project on a NTSC-dvd. In the preferences of Toast you can decide wether the output will be a PAL- or a NTSC-dvd.
For friends in Brazil I burned a NTSC-dvd, but I still don't know if it works!
    Give it a try on a dvd-rw.

  • Convert PAL-tapes into NTSC tapes

I had a question about using PAL-tapes. Can I convert PAL-tapes into NTSC tapes?
I am trying to import my video that I shot with a PAL-tape. Is there a way to import my data into imovie?

    Yes.
Use a PAL camera to import the PAL tape.
Use JES Deinterlacer to convert to NTSC.
Create a new NTSC iMovie project.
    Import the converted movie.
Export to NTSC tape using an NTSC camera.

  • Converting PAL footage to NTSC

I'm new to FCE and as I'm in the UK my work is PAL based. However, I've just filmed a wedding and one of the guests lives in the US. They'd like a copy and I want to find out how I could convert the footage over to NTSC.
Any advice? Is this possible in FCE?
I know that Final Cut Pro comes with Compressor 3 but this comes bundled.
Is there any other software out there?
    Thanks.

you can do it in final cut, i have done the other way ntsc to pal and sent videos to england and ireland.
You just need to adjust your export to proper frames, i think we are 29.5 frmaes/ sec and screen size
then when you open idvd set new projects for ntsc then open a new project. i think it has to be a new project.
it will work. i have done it. There is some help in the help menue of idvd i think, it gives you the proper #'s

  • Convert PAL Video to NTSC

I'm wondering how it is possible to convert PAL Video to NTSC using FCP, DVDSP or other tools. Thanks.

    Hi:
You can do it for free using Compressor standard conversion presets.
    Check this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1015451&tstart=15
It's related to NTSC to PAL, but you can use the same guidelines in the other way.
Besides thatm the posted software is only Windows based:

Make a new project. Use custom settings for NTSC. Copy the PAL project and paste it into the NTSC project.

  • Grainy Image when converting from PAL to NTSC...

    Hi,
I'm using Compressor 2.0.1 to convert a PAL movie to NTSC. I find that the output is extremely Grainy, the blacs are Muddy and the Highlights are colored.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rajnesh

There are many options when converting from PAL to NTSC with Compressor's Frame Controls panel. Have you tried other settings? Note, however, that the highest quality settings are pretty slow so be prepared for a fairly long wait even on your Power Mac G5.
Otherwise, you might want to try the freeware utility JES Deinterlacer (available on VersionTracker.com). JES Deinterlacer is pretty fast at PAL <-> NTSC conversion and the results are better than you will get with the basic settings in Compressor 2.

  • Converting French SECAM to NTSC

I have TV programming recorded in France on -R DVDs in the SECAM (or PAL- I don't know which) format and they playback fine on my iMac. I'd like to convert the DVDs to NTSC. In the past I have used a multi-standard DVD deck connected to a SECAM/PAL-NTSC converter box that is connected to another DVD burner that burns the new NTSC DVD that I can then playback into the iMac via firewire, a procedure that has worked for several years.
I would like to avoid using all this equipment, which causes some quality loss because of the analog processing and connections I'm making. I'm told maybe FCE can convert from SECAM (maybe PAL?) to NTSC, but even if I could wouldn't I have to burn the new NTSC -R DVD in Studio Pro? This would be too expensive and time-consuming for projects that just don't require that level of sophistication.
Someone mentioned something about Compressor, but he wasn't real clear about it.
Or does Quick Time allow for anything I want to do? I don't know much about QT and how it works.
    Any ideas? Thank you !!!

  • Convert 1080i 30fps to 540p 60fps - field specific

The conversion I want to do sounds (to me anyway) like it ought to be very simple (at least, from the perspective of the logic involved) but I can find no way to do it.
I have 1080i source at 30fps.   That translates to one interlaced field every 1/60 second.   Hence, it should be possible to extract - without any computation - a 1920x540 progressive video (I realize that's anamorphic and that the final step would be to horizontally re-scale, but lets ignore that for now.)
So - I want to convert 1080i 30fps to 540p at 60fps - and I don't want the conversion process to use any math or algorithm to "calculate" what each pixel row should look like - I just want the even fields from the source to become the even frames on the output file, and likewise the odd fields become the odd frames.   (Or vice versa, whichver makes chronlogical sense).
It doesn't appear there are settings to do that with Apple Compressor - have I missed something?
If Compressor can't do it, can anyone recommend a 3rd party app to do it?

When converting to progressive you are replacing the fields with one frame. To my knowledge you do not get to choose the field. Programs will most likely chose the upper field for 1080i footage and since it is creating the whole frame the end result will be based on the source dimensions to begin with. The point being that throwing away one field will not 1/2 your vertical size but this could be done with a custom dimension output.
I would recommend using Compressor for your frame rate conversion no matter where you are in the process of deinterlacing or size.
I would try doing some 1minute test files that convert the frame rate, size, interlacing or all of these at once to see if you get the desired results.

  • 10.2 crashes when I try to convert old libraries for use in the new software. Is there a workaround for this? Or will i have to continue using the previous version to complete older projects?

Final Cut Pro X 10.2 crashes when I try to convert old libraries for use in the new software. Is there a workaround for this? Or will I have to continue using the previous version to complete older projects? the only foreseeable solution is to begin any new projects on 10.2 or importing footage on 10.2 and starting form scratch--which is something i definitely don't want to do or have time to do. ANY advice, thoughts, or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Some other threads advice to remove fonts, clean the caches, remove add ins but nothing works consistenty, for some it looks like it works, for me it failed.
What I did not try yet, was to move the Render files out of the malicious library to trash.

  • What is better when converting analog video for FCE, Canopus100/110/300/or5

    All,
What is better when converting analog video for FCE, Canopus100/110/300/or500? I have a new MACPRO with FCE HD and I wanted to convert some of my older video that was recorded on a HI8 Camcorder... Thanks.

I have the ADVC-100 (older model) and ADVC-110. They are identical except that the ADVC-110 does not come with an AC power adapter. Currently sells for about $220USD. If all you need to do is convert from HI8 tapes, the ADVC100/110 will do the job quite nicely.
The ADVC300 adds some enhancements for video signal cleanup, but at a higher price. Currently sells for about $450USD. The ADVC500 is overkill for home use.

    Hi,
The software provided for your device does not include OCR functionality
You may use any 3rd part OCR solution to scan as editable text.
If you have Microsoft Office suite there is a good chance the office suite provide this kind of capabilities:

  • A/V sync problems with mencoder -- trying to convert to 30fps

The title says it all. When encoding with mencoder (latest from extra repo), with seemingly everything tried, I absolutely cannot get the audio to sync! It's driving me nuts! Here is the basic command command I used:
mencoder -fps 30 -ofps 30 -ovc xvid -oac mp3lame -xvidencopts bitrate=whatever_i_want:trellis:aspect=16/9 -lameopts cbr:br=128 -vf harddup,expand=aspect=16/9,scale=480:272 infile -o outfile
Where the infile was any one of:
    * A standard, .avi Xvid 23.976 fps 800kb/s video with MP3 112kb/s audio DVD rip you can find on the net and filesharing sites (here the vbitrate was 800kb/s)
    * An .mpeg MPEG1 25fps 1150kb/s video MP2 224kb/s audio (here bitrates were outputted to the same values)
    * An .mp4 H264 29.989fps high-bitrate (in the 2000s, was somewhat random) video AAC audio file downloaded directly from Youtube with a DL mp4 from YT Firefox extension
I also tried to mess with the codec settings, like using libavcodec, no trellis as an option, different bitrates etc. but the audio is still out of sync! Although on the mencoder man page it says to put harddup at the end of the filer chain, I've tried that; all it did was cause weird graphical glitch of a band of rectangles containing some video on the right side of the screen, as well as ignoring the expand filter. And it didn't even fix the A/V sync. To be specific, the audio is considerably behind the video e. g. by the time the video ends, audio is still playing from long before the ending credits from an earlier scene, and cuts off as the file ends.
On a side note, framerate conversion with ffmpeg (which, if I understand correctly, mencoder/mplayer is based on), with -r 30 works. But for some reason I find a quality difference (even when using libxvid directly as a -vcodec) and, on top of that, cropping fails with "Vertical crop dimensions are outside the range of the original image." (which they weren't). Argh, I don't think I've every googlesearched this hard only to not get an answer!
Why am I trying to do this? I am converting these videos for playback on my Samsung P2, whose video format requirements are pretty strict (scroll down to video).
And just as a side question, if that if all figured out, I'm trying to make sense of multi-pass encoding. Anyone have some howto to point me to? Any tips on multipass/framerate encoding? And please, don't tell me to RTFM. Mplayer/Mencoder's man page is 300kb uncompressed in itself. I have already tried to made sense of this large document and it has failed to give me an answer (it is a good resource for xvidencopts and the like, but not so much a good guide for mplayer/mencoder.

Before my ATV I used a Rapsody N35 media play with a 400GB disk and converted all my DVD's to Xvid using avi.net on Windows.
I'm now converting some of these movies to ATV (h.264) format using visualhub, it cost £12.95 and does a great job. I tried a few free or open source converters but settled on visualhub because of ease of use and quality of conversion. I also want a Mac OS application.
