Convert to Apple TV converts 5.1 to stereo.

Using iTunes to convert a .mov file (H.264 MPEG 4 6-ch High efficiency AAC) for the Apple TV resulted in a .m4v file (H.264 2-ch AAC).
Surely I should not lose the surround sound?

I suggest using Handbrake to convert your files. Google it. It presents you with a much wider variety of options for conversion and audio tracks.

  • How to convert surround back to stereo?

I've got into a problem with surround sound. One track from the loops library is in surround format and this seems to make it impossible to insert mastering fx in the normal way on the Out 1&2 tracks? (The insert slots have simply disappeared.)
Can anyone enlighten? How does a surround sound get converted back to normal stereo, and how do i go about restoring the insert slots to the out 1&2?
    Thankz ahead,

  • How to convert mono audio to stereo during import?

When I shoot my videos for YouTube I use an external mic which works great but when my camera records it, it is mono sound, so only the left channel of my source videos contain the talking.
In the previous version of iMovie 9 I used to be able to export using QuickTime and convert the audio to mono so the final video which is uploaded has sound coming out of both speakers.
Honestly I don't care what format my exported files are in, as long as they're HD and the audio is good. So the new .mp4 file format is no problem for me with iMovie 10.0.1
In the lastest version of iMovie (10.0.1) I can't see a way to convert my mono audio to "real" mono or stereo sound (whatever it's called) so the sound comes out of both speakers. Having the talking only coming out of one speaker now makes me look like an idiot on YouTube.
I tried a stereo/mono adapter where the mic connects to the camera but it resulted in no sound. So I'm hoping I can use an audio fix somehow using iMovie 10.0.1 to fix 'er up. What are my options guys?
Yes I'm aware I can still use iMovie 9, which is what I've reverted back to until I can fix this problem.
    Thanks.

For now, I think that is the best choice.
You could also buy QuickTime Pro 7 which will allow you to do the same mono conversion that iMovie version 9 does.

  • How to convert false (dual mono) stereo files ?

I imported an enormous amount of regions from a Final Cut Pro project, and because the cameras each had mono mics but were recording audio in stereo, all the audio files are technically stereo, but contain only mono information.
So I've got hundreds of stereo-interleaved files in my Logic session, but each file contains only mono information, so my project is twice the size it needs to be.
Can anyone suggest a way to remove all that redundant information ? What I want to do is split all the interleaved files, then select all the .R files and delete them, but I don't see any way to accomplish this in Logic, other than file-by-file (I have 500 of them...)
Anyone been down this path ?
    Thanks!
    -James

Hey, thanks for all the suggestions, Seeren!
I'm not sure how your method is generating only .L files for you--when I split interleaved, I always get both sides... but not a big deal. It's easy enough to delete half the audio.
The real problem is getting the files replaced without losing all the arrange work: your method requires manually replacing the old stereo files with the new mono files in the arrange, which would be a ton of work in large projects like mine...
But... I did find a solution to this--it's not exactly elegant, though, because it requires some filename hacking:
Turns out if you have a reference to a stereo interleaved file in your project, and you replace it with a mono file of exactly the same length and filename, Logic will happily accept the substitution without a complaint. So the way to replace all the stereo files with the .L files is:
    1) Copy the stereo interleaved files into split stereo, then remove the new split stereo files from the audio bin (but leave them on disk)
    2) Close the project
    3) Remove the original stereo files from the "Audio Files" folder, and delete the .R files.
    ...that's all easy... then...
    4) Rename all those .L files, removing the .L so they have the same names as the original stereo files
    5) Reopen your project--Logic will now refer to the new mono files, not the original stereo files
Step #4 requires some hacking to do efficiently: I used the command line to rename all those files quickly. There are probably utilities out there that could have done the job with a GUI, and AppleScript could probably do it, too.
Anyway... this works, if it's helpful to anyone else.
But ultimately I guess this is a feature request: it's cool that Logic makes it so easy to manipulate split stereo files as a single unit. But there are occasional times when you need to manipulate stereo files individually. There should be a track command in the arrange that takes a stereo track and replaces it with two mono tracks... rather surprising this doesn't seem to exist (it's one mouse click in ProTools [ducking])...

  • Convert Dual Mono to Stereo in Timeline?

    I don't think there's a solution for this, but I'll ask anyway.
    I'm in Premiere Pro CC.
Due, I believe, to the way FCP xml is read, any project I import from FCP, and any sequence I send to PluralEyes and back, has all stereo audio clips split into dual mono. The clips are still linked, are designated L and R, and play back correctly, but it's an organizational pain in the *** to deal with when all of my other clips are correctly in stereo.
Is there any way I can relink/combine/merge the split audio back into a single track? This seems like it would be an easy feature to add, so I don't see why it wouldn't.
Merge Clips and Nest are both greyed out. Under Audio Channels, I can only change the source channels; Channel Format is greyed out.
    Thanks.

I've found to way to do this myself.

  • I need to conect my 2nd generation apple tv to an old analog stereo. What is the best way?

So, I have a brand new 2nd generation apple tv, a brand new projector and an old analog receiver. I want to be able to play music off of the apple tv without turning on the projector and so am trying to figure out the best way to connect the ATV to the receiver. 2nd generation only has an optical audio out. The cheapest option I have found is a Digital to Analog converter that costs $90. If you add in the wires it costs as much as the ATV! Kind of annoying as now I see the first generation had analog outputs.
Just wondering if anyone had any other solutions or suggestions. Anyone done this?
    Thanks!

  • Apple DVD Player: Audio problem w/ stereo playback

Hello, i thought that there were already various answers to this topic but i didn't find any.
THE PROBLEM: I use a simple stereo system to playback the sound of movie dvds on my powerbook g4. problem is that the sound is very inconstant: sometimes it's too loud, other times it's way to low.
any idea how i can get this to a constant level?
    thanks in advance,

Try changing the "Dolby dynamic range compression" setting in the "Disc Setup" preference of DVD Player.

  • How can i convert from alac to mp3 and export to artist/album hierarchy

I am trying to populate a 32GB SD Card with music to listen to in my car.  My itunes library is largely in apple lossless format, but the car stereo does not play that format.
I have created a playlist of all of the music I'd like to have on the SD Card (but its in apple lossless format).
So what I'd like to do is:
    a)     Bulk convert a large number of apple lossless files to MP3.
    b)     Export the MP3 files to an external Finder folder, organized in Artist/Album hierarchy
    c)     Delete the MP3 files from the itunes library so as to have just the apple lossless version maintain in the itunes library
Sounds pretty simple, but I'm having a devil of a time trying to figure it out.
I can find a way to do the conversion and export the MP3 files (and subsequently deleted from the itunes library), but they will not be organized by Artist/Album in the Finder folder.
Similarly, I can export a bunch of files from itunes to a Finder folder and have it be organized by Artist/Album.
I just can't do one followed by the other.
I suppose this would also work if instead of exporting the newly created MP3 files, it would establish a new playlist in itunes with these.  Then, I could just export them and have them then organized by Artist/Album; and then I could delete all of the MP3 files in the playlist.
Any thoughts or ideas on how to accomplish this goal?  (I do know the manual way of doing this, but am trying to figure out a faster, more elegant way).
    M

I ask because you wrote, "I just can't do one followed by the other".
You can. Just do one followed by the other.
    Convert the files to mp3.
Put them all into a playlist.  A smart playlist with Kind is MP3 and added in last one day will do it for you.
Select the songs in teh smart playlist
Run Export to Album Folders script.
Select all the songs in the playlist then Command Delete to remove them from iTunes.

  • Convert two mono tracks into one stereo?

I've imported a clip from my DV camera into Final Cut. For whatever reason, the clip audio is two mono tracks rather than one stereo track. Is there a way for me to convert this to a stereo track after the import?
    Thanks very much,
    Greg
    G5 Dual 2.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Select both clips in the Timeline, then go to Modify->Stereo Pair (Option L). But if both clips contain the same audio information, it won't really be stereo ... just two tracks panned left & right.
If you want the audio to come in as stereo when you capture next time, make sure that you have the Capture settings for the audio set to "stereo."

  • How to Connect My Apple TV to My Panasonic SC-PT760 Home Theater

    Hello;
I currently use the Panasonic SC-PT760 as the Home Theater DVD Player which only has 1 HMDI output and connects directly to the HD TV, also I have the Direct TV connected to the Home Theather via AUX.
I am wondering how should I connect my apple TV, if I would like to connect ut via HMDI. Is a HMDI switch an option or what should I do ?
    Please advise.

You can purchase HDMI switches but don't expect them to work perfectly in _every_ configuration. What I mean is that your mileage may vary, it may work, or it may not. However, chances are good that it will but I'd make certain that you can return the HDMI switch if it doesn't work correctly when paired with you DVD player and the Apple TV and your HDTV.
By the way, does your TV have component inputs? If so you can use the Apple TV's component outputs to get HD but then you'll have to route the audio from the Apple TV either over standard RCA stereo plugs or via the digital audio optical connection on the Apple TV (assuming again that your HDTV has optical audio inputs, but I see that you receiver has an optical input so that should work too).

  • How to connect a wireless drive and stream to my stereo through MacBook. I currently have a non apple WiFi network

I currently have a PC based WiFi network and am about to buy a MacBook Pro. I have 250 gb iTunes library and 100+ gb of photos. What I was going to get is the 120gb MacBook and run an external drive to store the iTunes library and photos. For intensive photographic work I'd directly connect the drive but day to day I'd connect it to the wireless network. What I want to do is to stream my music, from the wireless drive to my stereo
Will the drive work this way on my existing router - usb2 connected? Or do I need an apple device.  Should I use an airport or Apple TV to connect to the stereo?
I also want to have the option of streaming from my iPhone.

Hard to say when you don't give us a clue what you current router is??
USB2 is slow.. it is double slow from a network device.. and even slower if that network device doesn't actually have too much CPU power or RAM..
Even worse is the idea to move the disk from the network to the local external port.. because then format comes into play.. Apple devices can use FAT32.. yuk.. but really want HFS+.. most routers cannot talk HFS+ except apple ones.. they want NTFS or FAT32.. You can see where this is going.. buy two disks.. one for library.. one for a scratch disk .. usb3 will be great.. or thunderbolt even better. And when finished copy your project to the network drive..
Think carefully about backups.. they are important too.. might be time to invest in a real NAS. Not toy systems with USB.. dangling off them.

  • Can I connect a stereo receiver to Apple TV and stream iTunes to my stereo?

I copied this question from a discussion archived from 2008, it's pretty much my question, although I hope to get a little more information on the answers... My stereo receiver (Sony STR-D511) is an older one but currently my TV (signal from Directv DVR) plays through the receiver on video 1 but I can't get the Apple TV to play through the stereo... My TV is quite new, a philips 1080, and the Apple TV is hooked in to HDMI 3, the Directv box is hooked into AV3, I believe I'm having issue with all the different sources my TV has and somehow I'm unable to cross the paths (make the connections) any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I would like the ability to play my itunes via Apple TV through my stereo receiver so that it's on the Stereo speakers rather then the TV Speakers.

Hi, and firstly thanks for the reply... I think my TV back has different labeled areas, so I took a photo and posted -- I'm bad with the electronics terms and the  translating of it all - ( I attached a pic) - I hope this helps with the photos you can also see where I have
thing plugged in - that one with svideo/rca cables is AV 3, where my DVRbox is going - the red/white cables on the right without a yellow go to my video 1 input on my receiver... the cables on the side are for my dvd player which the audio only works thru TV as well... then also below the red/white ones is HDMI3 where the apple tv is going... that's why i thought the stereo would work because its right below the cables that go to the stereo?
i hope this helps thanks again for your time
    cheers

  • Stream music from Apple TV and use Apple TV source output at the same time?

Hello, I'm using an Apple TV 3 and a wireless speaker Bowers & Wilkens Z2 . The Apple TV is connected to my Stereo equipment. I now want to use the B&W in parallel. So far I only could find to switch between Apple TV and the wireless speaker. I'd like to include and not toggle between the stereo and the wireless speaker.
    Any support would be appreciated.

On Mac in Settings go to security - advanced and turn of IR on the Mac you don't want it to control.

  • 5.2 update does not send audio from video played via Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices or AirPort Express.

I just updated my Apple TV to release 5.2, which is supposed to give Apple TV the ability to "Send stereo audio from movies, TV shows, and other videos on Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices (including AirPort Express and other Apple TVs)." Problem is, this does not seem to be the case.
I have two AirPlay enabled devices:
    1) Bose SoundLink Air
    2) AirPort Express
In the Apple TV menu, I selected Settings, AirPlay, Bose SoundLink Air. I then played a video; the audio from the video played from my projector's speakers - not from the Bose speaker. I then went back to Apple TV's Settings/AirPlay and selected "Airport Express" (which connected via an aux cable to a speaker)...audio continued to play over my projector's speaker. I can, by the way, play audio on both the Bose and the speaker connected to the Airport Express if I select either of them from the AirPlay menu.
Am I doing something wrong, or is the 5.2 update not working as described?

No. But, are your speakers only connected to the AE or are they also connected to an amplifier?
You would need to use a Toslink cable to go from the Apple TV to the speakers/amp.
I don't use this or know a lot about it, but it is wildly popular, inexpensive and may be of help:

  • IPod Video (first generation) RANDOM crashing!

    Hi,
Ive had my ipod for almost a year now (purchased in November), and all of the sudden, not even right after i updated my ipod with the new ipod software update - just now - it starts crashing at random. I will be playing through a playlist and then it will go to a certain song, and - click, turn off and the apple logo comes up. It goes back to the main menu eventually, and then it will happen again as im playing through again. What is going on? is anyone else having this problem? Ive tried resetting it, but not restoring. Any ideas?
    Thanks

yeah I totally feel you on that... you have XP so I kind of know how to help... its mega basic but a lot of steps (n.n)
    Start>search>
click "all files or folders" and select the ipod drive
click "more advanced options" and select "mpeg layer 3 audio"
hit search and all of your files will pop up
right click where TITLE, ARTIST, SIZE, BIT RATE etc are (the way you can quickly sort your files).
    Select "more"
    check "channels" and hit OK
and then sort your files by channel.. it might take a couple minutes if you have a ton of songs..
you'll see files that are "1(MONO)" .. hover over them to find the title/artist/album info
make a list of the songs in a word document/notepad
    close the search
    open itunes w/ ipod connected
Search for the songs you found as mono on your itunes,
    Right click>get info>summary (tab)
check that they say Channel:Mono before you delete them from your ipod.
re-download them in stereo format or convert the files to stereo and add them to your ipod again.
    happy musicating!
