Convert to MP3 format/Sync to MP3 player

I have purchased songs from I-tunes for my MP3 player. I can see the songs on in the MP3 file, but can't play them...I think I need to convert the files to MP3 format, but am unsure how to do that. Also, how do you sync from I-Tunes onto my MP3 player?

Can you clarify this a bit more. I assume you are saying that you purchased tracks from the iTunes music store? Is that correct?
If so they are in AAC (MPEG-4) format. Do you know if they are protected tracks or if they are "Plus" (unprotected) tracks?
For Plus tracks, you can import them by going into your preferences in iTunes and changing the IMPORT preference to MP3 format (if you are not already using it). Then "OK" out of preferences, find the songs you need to convert, right click on them and pick "Convert to MP3". This will make a new COPY of the file in MP3 format (the original AAC formatted version will remain there untouched).
For protected tracks, you are not allowed to convert them directly to MP3 files. Instead, all you can do it add them to a playlist then burn them out to an AUDIO format CD. This converts them from AAC to a normal music CD like you would buy in the store. You can then treat the music CD like you would any other music CD including accessing it with iTunes like your store purchased music CDs.
Once you have your MP3 files, usually all you need to do is drag and drop the files from the library window onto your MP3 player mounted on your computer. If it doesn't work directly from the library window, you can always go find the MP3 files in your folder structure and drag and drop them from there to the MP3 player.
Which MP3 player do you have?
Cheers,
Patrick

  • Converting QuickTime to format for Windows Media Player

I have some QT movie clips on my Mac that I need to play on a PC which does not have QuickTime installed. The computers I need to use these movies cannot have QT installed on them because my employer does not support QT, only using Windows Media Player.
So, how do I convert the QT clips I have on my Mac in to something that will play on a PC Windows Media Player ? Is it possible? I'd like to convert them, put them on a CD or DVD and then play them on the PC using Windows Media Player either from the CD/DVD.

You could use Flip4Mac with iMovie. Which you probably have. It's easiest with QuicktimePro though.
Flip4Mac PlayerPro converts WMV to mov ($49)
Flip4Mac Studio converts MOV to WMV ($99) and includes PlayerPro too.
Flip4Mac Studio Pro adds 2 pass encoding (more control over data rate) and WMV HD (HiDef) ($179)
The Flip4Mac series are all plugins that work in other programs QuickTime based programs.
You'd open your MOV file in iMovie for example and use the Share export feature Advanced and save as WMV. It'll ask you for settings which depends on what you're actually using the WMV for (broadband, dial up, play from a PCs hard drive).

  • Can't convert my itunes to mp3 format for my LYRA MP3 player

I purchashed a mp3 player for my son. We have approximately 177 itunes I have purchased in my library. I can not convert them to mp3 format so I can download on player. Dialog box reads "files are protected and format can not be changed". Please help. I have paid for these tunes and would hate to do so again.

I'm not sure I completely follow what it is you are trying to do, but it strikes me you're making it more complicated than need be.
iTunes imports files in the format set in your preferences.  If you want to import as other than mp3 then set the other format in your preferences.
iTunes is also set by default to put a copy of tracks you add into your iTunes folder.  You can unset this in preferences (I have this unset) but most people don't because it kind of messes up file management.  You can also temporarily disable it for files you are dragging to iTunes by holding the option key.  If you use iTunes for converting it will add them to iTunes - that's the way it behaves. I often use non-iTunes applications such as Max or XLD for doing my conversions (you also get to use the LAME codec for mp3 which some consider better than iTunes).
You can add a column to your lists display which is format, or just go by the file size or bit rate display columns.  While not definitive, I can usually depend upon files saying 128k bitrate or 3 MB in size to be mp3 (I have almost no AAC tracks) vs. AIFFwhich would have much higher bitrate and much bigger files.
If you have mp3 files and want to put them on a flash drive, highlight the items you want to add (it could be a whole playlist) and drag this from the iTunes window to the flash drive in a Finder window.

  • Sync itunes to mp3 player

Can I sync songs purchased from the itunes store to a Mp3 player? If so, how?

Not directly no. iTunes does not directly support other players. If the tracks you purchased are iTunes Plus (which has no copy protection), then if your player only supports MP3 (and not AAC, the native iTunes Store format) the tracks can be converted to MP3 which you could then sync to your player by whatever process it uses. Another option for synching might be iTunes Agent.

  • Converting an MP3 to WAV -- How can I convert an MP3 to wav format, 16 bit

How can I convert an MP3 to wav format, 16 bit, 44,1 khz? I like the program Switch which I know can convert MP3s, but how to I set it up for the specific settings that I need?

Just import into a logic session. Then bounce at the specs you require. Logic or Waveburner, iTunes and even Quicktime I think can each do this easily.
A question though. I am assuming you are converting an MP3 to 44.1/16 bit just so you can play the file in a consumer quality CD player?? IF so - that makes sense.
But if you are doing this because you think it will improve the sound quality of your MP3, I will save you some time here. It won't improve the sound quality at all. It will just turn the MP3 into a larger audio file.
44.1/16 bit resolution enables you to have a much better sounding file than MP3 formats, but not by going at it this way.
No offense to you if you know all of this already. I am assuming that you may not know this - because if you did you would also likely know how to convert an audio file.

  • How can I convert my existing tunes to work on an MP3 player?

I have purchased a CBC radio show from Itunes and want to put it on an MP3 player. It appears the file format is not compatable. How can I convert the existing files to MP3 format??
    Thanks.

If it has Apple FairPlay DRM on it, you can't simply "convert it" to MP3. You must first burn it to a CD, then import it again into iTunes. Make sure your import settings have MP3, and match the native bit-rate of the original track.
If it's a regular AAC audio file, then simply change your import settings to MP3, then right-click the file and choose "Create MP3 Version."

  • Syncing mp3 player with iTunes...help

I have a Trio MP3 player (yes, I know, that is most of the problem, but bear with me)
iTunes will not allow me to copy song files and convert them to MP3's so I can put them onto the MP3 player. (heaven help me, I miss my iPod) The MP3 player will only play MP3's, not mp4's nor aac files.
I have tried this by placing the songs I want into a new play list - selecting all files in new playlist - go to advanced - select convert selection to MP3...the mac says that it is converting the requested files to MP3 format. Yet, it only turned them into AAC files. I have changed the preferences of importing and burning to MP3 (from AAC), but to no avail. I repeat the steps above and get the same result.
I have also moved the songs into a file on the desktop, but connot convert them from there.
iTunes also will not let me change the AAC files I purchased from iTunes into MP3's...they are "protected".
    Help.
I wasn't able to buy another iPod after ours was stolen, so got this instead. All I want to do is be able to take the songs I legally purchased from iTunes and the ones I importeed from my own legally purchase cd's and put them on this MP3 player. ( I cannot reimport the cd music, those were stolen along with the iPod)
    Help!

Have you tried updating your iTunes Library to iTunes Plus. This will enable you to convert those purchases, as iTunes Plus songs and music videos are DRM-free. You can update your library for 30¢ a song, as long as your purchases are available in the new format.

  • My Sony mp3 player synced with my iphoto. How do I unsync it? It no longer shows up as a device in my Finder window.

I plugged my Sony mp3 player into my mac mini, Snow Leopard, and it synced with my iphoto. Now it does not show up as a device anywhere, not even iphoto. When I plug in the mp3 via its usb, it opens iphoto. How do I stop this and get it back as a device in my Finder window so I can load songs on it again.

Turns out my Mac put code on the mp3 player because after I reset the mp3 player to its 'factory settings', (erasing everything) it went back to normal and now shows up in the finder window.

  • MP3 player loses 75% memory upon formatting for Mac?! Can it be recovered?

I recently pruchased a third party MP3 player. (yeah... I know)
In order to access it on the Mac, someone told me I need to format it when it comes up asking to be initialized. I then via "Disk Utility" volume format, selected MS-DOS file system and erased.
My once 4gb MP3 player is now 962MB!?!
Is there any way to recover that very valuable disk space?
    Please advise!

I got it; Formatted FAT and got it going.

  • Can i convert itunes songs i paid for to play on an mp3 player

Im trying to put songs i purchased from itunes and put them on an mp3 player but its not working. Am i able to convert them back to they can work?

If they are iTunes Plus songs (purchased since 2009) you can convert them to MP3 by following these instructions:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
Note that the conversion process will create a new MP3 and leave the original AAC in place, so make sure you are using the new one for your player.
If you have any "protected" iTunes song files, you need to first upgrade them to iTunes Plus, and then do the conversion.

Did you ever get an answer to your question about converting wma files?
I received some promotional free downloads from a contest and when I downloaded them, they are all wma and I can not get them into my itunes. I click the button that says "convert" when prompted, but then it says it is illegal or something to convert it.

  • MMC card and MP3 player - 1/2 capacity after format?

    Hi,
I got an MP3 player (1 Gb) and a MMC card (2 Gb) and after format in a USB card reader from OS X 10.4.7, they are now 512 Kb and I Gb respectively. MS Dos or Mac format doesn't matter.
Is it a USB 1 or 2 problem?
    Any one know about this?
    EF

Well I have solved the problems and I post here in case others encounter them.
The MMC/SDC card was fixed by getting a true USB 2.0 card reader, the one I had was about USB 1 & 5/8 ths.
The MP3 player was a rip off, sold as 1 Gb but really only 512 Kb see:
