Convert to MP3 Loses Some Volume

When I convert a text to speech .aiff to .mp3 in iTunes, I find that the volume goes from -9.4 db to -14.4 db. I don't want any of it to be - (minus) anything at all from the get go. But then when it goes lower, it's getting harder to hear.
No idea what causes this. I tried equalizer, which seems to only make a difference when I'm in iTunes. I also tried moving the volume slider in GetInfo>Options, which makes an almost imperceptible change when I take it from dead center all the way to the right to +100.
And in System Preferences, Sound makes no permanent difference to the recording levels.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

On my desktop I have pretty good contol over the sound levels during playback, but listening on an MP3 player it can only go so loud, and then you're outta luck. Just emphasizing the importance of having adjustability when making the audio files.

  • HT1349 I have a large Windows iTunes library (18k+ songs, 650+ movies, 2.4K TV shows) and since upgrading to iTunes 11 files are disappearing from my library. Some music files re-appear in the cloud which means I have to re-download and re-convert to MP3.

iTunes 11 is rapidly becoming a disaster for me. I have a dedicated Windows 7 machine running iTunes to service 3 Apple TV's, 2iPhones, 2iPods, and an iPad. Itunes 11 is very sluggish with my large library and has now started 'losing' files to the cloud.  This means that music I purchased in 2005 is being removed from my library and subsequently seems to become available as a ne cloud download.  This may well be because I convert all ACC files to MP3 and delete the ACC (my ears are too old to care about the reduction in quality). Either way, it's detrsoying my playlists and means I have to re-download files.
Does anyone know how to stop this?  I have no interest in the cloud (my library is too big and contains hundreds of ripped CD's and Vinyl records that can't be matched).
    Thanks

Because back in the early days very few devices supported AAC so converting to MP3 allowed me to use iTunes and other devices (like a $1000 dollar MP3 player with a 3.5" hard disk drive that pre-dated iPods ) as well as my gen 1 and 2 iPods.  I can't hear the difference (I'm old...) so the files being smaller is still an advantage (even though I have 64Gb iPods and iPhones these days.  Anyway, the major issue is iTunes deleting the MP3's and messing up my playlists because the file it downloads just goes in the library - not the original playlists. The secondary issue is how do I know it's truly replacing all the files it deletes. It's just scary and I don't like it.
BTW, I'm not anti-cloud and in fact use iCloud extensively with my iPhones/Apple TV's for photo sharing/backups but iCloud is useless for media sharing. I have just over 2tb of media data shared on my iTunes server (and remotely accessible on my iPhone/iPad using WebDav to my home server).
...and none of my media is pirated. I have crates of vinyl, CD's,DVD's, and Blu-Rays along with thousands of iTunes store receipts!

  • AAC convert to MP3?

    Please forgive an Itunes virgin:
I just dl'd Mary J & U2/One from Itunes, but unfurtunately it was in aac, which is a format I cannot play on my phone (N6230). Can I convert it to mp3 and if so, HOW?
    Thank you in advance...

You can't convert iTMS tracks directly but if you burn them to an audio CD in iTunes you can re-import them as MP3's to play on other devices, however you will lose some sound quality in the transfer.

  • Converting an MP3 to WAV -- How can I convert an MP3 to wav format, 16 bit

How can I convert an MP3 to wav format, 16 bit, 44,1 khz? I like the program Switch which I know can convert MP3s, but how to I set it up for the specific settings that I need?

Just import into a logic session. Then bounce at the specs you require. Logic or Waveburner, iTunes and even Quicktime I think can each do this easily.
A question though. I am assuming you are converting an MP3 to 44.1/16 bit just so you can play the file in a consumer quality CD player?? IF so - that makes sense.
But if you are doing this because you think it will improve the sound quality of your MP3, I will save you some time here. It won't improve the sound quality at all. It will just turn the MP3 into a larger audio file.
44.1/16 bit resolution enables you to have a much better sounding file than MP3 formats, but not by going at it this way.
No offense to you if you know all of this already. I am assuming that you may not know this - because if you did you would also likely know how to convert an audio file.

  • Can't convert to MP3 with itunes music

I have downloaded some music but I am not able to convert my purchased itunes songs to MP3 so that I can put it into a personal movie maker project that I am doing. When I try to convert the song, I get this message: "Amazing Grace" could not be converted because protected files cannot be converted to other formats. How can I get this into my Windows Movie Maker?

    Di5,
The protected tracks sold in the iTunes Music Store are not mp3s, and under the terms of the ITMS license cannot be legally converted to mp3 format. iTunes does not provide a way to do the conversion, and if you are a rocket scientist and figure it out, you would not (as Paul correctly notes) be allowed to discuss it in this Forum.
To get mp3s, you need to look elsewhere, such as (1) rip from CD (2) purchase from an online store that sells songs in mp3 format, such as audiolunchbox.com, or (3) purchase from an online store that allows format conversion. On the last item, puretracks.com states that "When Puretracks files are burned to a CD through Windows Media Player 9, these music CDs will be recognized and can be ripped by iTunes."
    Hope this helps.

  • Convert to mp3

So, I have recently been using the "convert to mp3" tool in iTunes, but sometimes there is a problem. I will try to change a whole album at a time, and some songs will, once converted, be shortened to 4:01. Even when the song is 6 minutes long or so, it will stop at 4:01. I can retry the conversion sometimes, and it will work perfectly, and other times it will ALWAYS cut it short. The reason I have been doing this was because it was the only solution to another problem I was having. New songs put in my library would play on my laptop, but not my ipod. If anyone can help with that, please tell me, but the conversion seemed to help. Until now :/
I don't know why this is happening, because the songs are much longer than 4:01, but they just stop at the time with some of the conversions.

Export (now under the "Share" menu) your song to iTunes.
In the iTunes preferences (Advanced > Importing) select MP3 (at the bit rate of your choice, though MySpace may have file-size limits).
Then, in iTunes, select the AIFF of the the song you exported from GB, and choose "Convert to MP3" from the pull-down or contextual menu.
When uploading to MySpace, you'll have to drill down through your iTunes music folders to find the Artist>Album folder in which the MP3 is stored.
Shouldn't be too hard -- I've slung a few of my GarageBand recordings onto a Myspace page.
    Cheers,
    Carl

  • Adobe 9 standard loses some functions after upgrading to ie 10 or 11.  is there a fix?

After upgrading ie 9 to 10 or 11, adobe 9 standard loses some of it's functions most noticeable is printing.  Is there a fix for this?

Generally when compatibility is considered (not OS aspect), it refers to the ability to use PDF Maker. Also, PDF Maker is only available on a PC, not a MAC. Generally, if Acrobat works on the OS, then printing to PDF is always an option. However, you lose bookmarks and such when you use that process. There are a few cases that are different and provide more functions. My word processor for instance does not have PDF Maker compatibility. However, the creator of the package added apparently PDF Marks in the file so that when used with the Adobe PDF printer, bookmarks based on styles are created.
I also just noted that I got messed up in the mix of updates. I was thinking Acrobat updates, not IE. With the newer IE versions, you will only be able to print to the Adobe PDF printer, nothing more. Acrobat 9 is no longer being updated except for critical security issues. You might try the MS plugin for IE (if one is available -- sorry, but I am not an IE user) to convert from HTML or other IE display to PDF. I know MS has the converters for WORD, but not sure about other products. When you do not have PDF Maker available, as in your case, then the MS plugin may meet your needs.

  • Converting to MP3 and retain originals

I have several thousands of songs within iTunes that I need to convert to MP3, and still need to be able to retain the originals.
Is there a way to globally select all songs, convert them to MP3, and then redirect those conversions to another disk so I do not have an MP3 for each original?
I know there will be some loss in quality during this conversion.
    Thanks!

I need to convert to MP3, and still need to be able to retain the originals.
When you convert songs to a different format in iTunes, it retains the original. It is not deleted, You would have two copies of the same song in iTunes, the original plus the MP3.
Is there a way to globally select all songs, convert them to MP3, and then redirect those conversions to another disk so I do not have an MP3 for each original?
This is confusing. You want an mp3 for each original but you don't want an mp3 for each original?
Do you want the MP3 files in a different location or are you simply trying to keep the original plus an MP3? (see above)
    Either way, do this;
Set iTunes prefs-> Advanced - Importing to MP3.
    Select all the songs.
Menu Advanced -> Convert selections to MP3.
    If you want to move the MP3 files somewhere else;
Sort by Kind, select all the MP3 files and drag them to a folder on the desktop and do what you want with them.
If you want these mp3 files removed from iTunes select them and delete.
The mp3 files you copied to the desktop folder will still be there.

  • Wave not converting into MP3

I have been sent a wave file that is 2:47 in length. When I convert it into MP3 format it only converts half of the file and it is 1:30 in length??  I have tried many time but I keep getting the same result.  Is it because the file is too big?

    Hey Limnos:
I'm not sure if the WAV is mono or stereo.  While it did actually convert, the MP3 fades out at 1 min. 30 sec.  It is a song being mastered for a CD so I am figuring that the WAV is stereo.  There are 10 songs on the CD and all of the WAV files converted to MP3 with the exception of two. Both fade out in the middle of the song.  The bar indicates that this is the end of the song.  So, in fact it converts about half the song. The actual song is 2 min. 47 sec.  The sound technician says that some of the files are huge and perhaps they are just too big to convert. I'll be getting the actual audio master on Monday so we will test it on every media for corruption.   Very strange however as I have not had this problem before.

Everybody's wrong wrong wrong. You don't need garageband. Select the song, go to info. You need to select a start and stop time for the song that can't be any longer than 40 seconds in length. Then in advanced mode you convert the song to acc. once done locate the file on the computer. it should end in .m4a . Change the a to an r so it reads .m4r Drag the file to the desktop, double click and it ends up in ringtones folder.

About to back up iTunes to XHD. Have old version 10.6.3.  Have been afraid to update with 40GB of music. Been digitizing vinyl.  In this version, playlists export as m3u, which needs to be converted to MP3-Song by song??? Goal is to also be able to burn MP3 to flash drive and to XHD as usable data.
Help?? What do I do first?  Could export as m3u-then figure it out later? Or will this data be unreadable junk in a new version of iTunes?
Does new version 11.whatever., have a provision to make all into MP3? Obviously past applecare contract.
Been looking at forums-not clear what to do.
Is there a simple way to convert/export m3u as MP3 in the newest version of iTunes?  Am I asking the right questions???
