Convert to MPEG-4, AVC files

Hello,
Is there any convertion software (to MPEG-4, AVC files) for MAC OX ?
Many thanks,

There are dozens of software titles claiming to be able to convert files to the Sony MPEG-4 formats.
I suggest you look in the iPod discussions pages (the subject of conversion to and from PSP formats has been mentioned hundreds of times). Use the "search" feature to help narrow thing down.
Then do a Google search for software converting apps. I'm sure you'll find something that fits your situation.

  • Converting MPEG-4 Audio Files back to iTunes

So my computer crashed from Vista's Service Pack 1. The cause of the crash was unknown at the time and I thought I had a virus so instead of backing up files which could contain virus's. I just reformatted my computer.
Now I have about 10 gigs of legal music from various place (CD's, iTunes, Friends) which are all already on my iPod. I know there are 3rd party programs to retrieve these songs, but I know a little bit about computers so I just did it myself.
The problem I am having is converting the MPEG-4(m4a) files so iTunes recognizes that these are music files like a MPEG-3(mp3). For some reason the actual CD's I bought when burned saved under both file types, I have no idea why. So basically I am missing about 1/3 of my library.
Any help on how to get these files back onto iTunes from my iPod without re-burning 100's of CD's?

Some of those solutions are free. You can also take a look at this user tip:

The solution presented is free albeit a bit involved.

  • Converting MPEG-4 video files to AppleTV

I'm trying to convert an MPEG-4 Video file in iTunes to AppleTV. I have tried various settings when exporting to iTunes. The imported file plays fine in iTunes, but the converted file just gives me audio and a white screen - no picture. The converted file is only about 39MB, when the original MPEG-4 file was about 2G. It appears that the audio portion is converting, but not the video. Can anyone out there tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I think the mystery has been solved. I switched to H.264, and it worked beautifully. Apparently, that's the only format that works. Too bad that neither QuicktimePRO nor iTunes mention this when you attempt to do the conversion to AppleTV...
    Thanks, for the help!

  • Ipod plays MPEG-4 but not MPEG-4 AVC (H.264)??

I've converted a bunch of DVD's to MPEG-4 AVC H.264 using Xilisoft's DVD Ripper Platinum. But to my surprise my iTunes doesn't even transfer them to the Ipod. It says on Apple's Tech Spec's that the Ipod plays H.264 format.
The video's are converted in 320x240, 30fps, 768Kbps, all according to "what's allowed". Xilisoft also converts DVD's straight to Ipod format, which plays without a problem. But the problem for me is, that it is in MPEG-4 format and the file is TWICE as big as in H.264!!
It is possible to use in "iTunes->Advanced->Convert selection for Ipod" too. This converts the MPEG-4 AVC H.264 file to a .m4v file, which works fine on the Ipod and all.
But i'm still wondering why the Ipod doesn't play from the beginning the MPEG-4 AVC H.264 file? So if i want a small file that plays in my Ipod i need to convert twice, DVD->H.264 and then H.264->.m4v?? Just sounds so crazy...What am i missing??
I would appreciate it very much if somebody could help me with this, i have tried to search in just about every single forum on Google but none has really helped me.

Do you have a check box or option for baseline
    profile under h.264?
Yes, it says on the upper right corner, after you choose in which format you want to conver the file to, in which codec it is. So when i convert it to MPEG-4 AVC it says h.264 and when converted to "Ipod format" on the drop down menu, it says on the upper right corner mpeg-4.
I am just really dwelled with this and i have updated all softwares, but no luck whatsoever.

  • Can I transfer Mpeg and wmv files to my Ipad and how do I do it?

Just wondering if you can do this

Yes, you can transfer your mpeg or wmv files to you iPad, but they can not be played in iPad, as they are not supported with iPad. So to play them in iPad normally, you should first convert your mpeg or wmv files to mp4, mov, or avi, then transfer the converted mp4(mov, avi) file to your iPad.
What you need is a video converter, and there are many ones on App store or Google.  And I just got Total Video Converter, it depends on your demands.

Great hearing for you all! I thought I was all alone this past weekend. I did learn a lot this weekend. I really like the InDesign product.(half-the-battle) But to be helped by the prestigious “Sandee Cohen” was an honor indeed.”  I ordered the InDesign CC today.  Peter, I appreciate all the feedback on Lynda too. They are loaded with lots of good videos. Derek too honed in on one of the most important aspects!  Since I have been working with Word for most of the first portion of the book this will be a big help. I looked at the comments big help ! hi,

Just because they are in mp4 format does not mean they are iPod compatible.
Files must conform to these standards:
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

  • Converting MPEG-4 Audio File (Protected) to MP3

New user purchasing tunes for my Lyrica MP3 player using daughters setup for IPod. Tunes downloaded in MPEG-4 audio file format and are 'protected'. When trying to convert to MP3 it won't because of its protected status. How can I convert them? If I already purchased the songs, can I go back and download them again in the MP3 format? Did I just waste my gift card and need to purchase them all again downloading them in MP3 format? Thanks

I too am interested in this answer. I am trying to copy files from my son's Itunes library to his PSP and it will not play protected files.

  • Converting to MPEG-4 Files

I am a novice with iMovie. Awhile back, I purchased a digital camcorder (JVC Everio with hard disk drive 20GB) with the idea of creating iMovies. My camera allows me to directly download movie files (by UBS; no firewire option) only as Capty MPEG (MPEG-2 Format) which I then must convert to MPEG 4 files to edit with iMovie. What software is recommended for this conversion? (Apologies if this has been answered before.)

Search this discussion group for mention of "MPEG Streamclip". That free application, combined with the Quicktime MPEG-2 plugin (US $19), is probably the most popular choice for converting such clips into DV format for editing with iMovie '06. VisualHub ($23 I believe), DVDxDV also work.
Some JVCs also come with a Quicktime plugin that lets you do editing in iMovie directly.

i want to convert the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a) to a window media audio file,  i downloaded some songs so i can run them with a photo slide show on my samsung video.  the machine would not play them (could not find them)  the files that work are all windows media audio

You can't convert to WMA with iTunes. I'd be surprised if the software can't read mp3 files. iTunes can convert to that. Otherwise there are free format converters out on the web. The suite from http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ is handy and includes an audio convertor. There is no need to install their toolbar or any other 3rd party software that gets offered.
