Convert VI llb from LabVIEW 5 for use in LabVIEW 8.6

Hi Everybody!
Firstly, I'd like to say how much I have enjoyed working for NI and especially supporting the online community in my spare work time. I have to say it is a great place for NI, long term users, new users and everything else LabVIEW - and you guys have fun! Excellent.
I am now back at university and I am looking to use LabVIEW for some robotic work. During my research I have found some manufacturer's VIs for the hardware: however their 'latest' version appears to be in LabVIEW 5.
Would someone be so kind to convert my VIs into at least LabVIEW 6, or up to LabVIEW 8.2.1 (Last version that can open LabVIEW 5 VIs) that would be great. My LabVIEW 8.6 should be able to open VIs saved in LabVIEW 6 or greater. (Obviously not LabVIEW 2009!)

Hi Susan,
It is no simpler converting vobs to mp4 than mpg (mpeg2).
There is *always* a loss of quality converting video from one lossy-compressed format to another, e.g. mpeg2 to mp4.
So, if you want to not lose any quality, then converting vobs to mpeg2 (mpg) is the thing to do (since there will be no video/audio re-compression), assuming Lr5 will accept them (sorry, but I do not know). example commands:
Mac: ffmpeg -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mpg
Win: ffmbc -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mpg
If Lr5 won't accept them, then you can convert to mp4 with minimal quality loss using a command like:
Mac: ffmpeg -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mp4
Win: ffmbc -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mp4
You may need variations of these commands depending on encoding of vob.
Note: -i means -input-file; -sameq means -same-quality, as much as possible.
ffm... is smart enough to avoid re-encoding, if possible, when -sameq is used, and makes reasonable choices for audio/video codecs based on extension of output file.
Of course, you'll need to download/install ffm... program if not already on your machine, and execute commands in a terminal or command window.

Hi,
If you are using the CVI libraries on this you can use the GetCompName() function from the programmer's toolbox. However, your code looks fine, the only thing that you need to change is the data type of the paramenters in CompNameLength. Just declare them using the predefined Windows data types; like this:
LPTSTR computerName;
DWORD compNameLength = MAX_COMPUTERNAME_LENGTH+1;
computerName = malloc(MAX_COMPUTERNAME_LENGTH+1);
GetComputerName(computerName,&compNameLength);
printf("%s",computerName);
free(computerName);
Don't forget to include windows.h where those types are defined.

Converting M-peg 2 files for use in i-movie

What is the best (easiest and cheapest) to use programme when trying to convert M-peg 2 files for use in i-movie? I have just bought my i-mac and was assured by seller in Apple store that it would be 'really easy' to upload files from existing camcorder. How wrong he was!

Never had to do this myself. However, if your Windows PC and the Mac have the same version of PM such as PM7.xx, then you should be okay. You'll need to sort out your fonts though as I think the Mac can open PC TrueType founts but Windows cannot handle Mac TrueType. OpenType are cross platform. Hope this helps.

Converting RM files (Real Video) for use in iMovie

I'm looking for a program that can help me convert RM (real video) files for use with iMovie.
I have heard that ffmpegX is great to use. I went to their website, downloaded everything and got it up and running...but when I try to convert anything, it doesn't work. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong?

I found a program but am experiencing lots of trouble with it. I was hoping that others could give me a better suggestion.
I've actually downloaded and installed ffmpeg but the problem I'm experiencing now is that the videos do not convert. The program starts to work and then three seconds later I get the dialog box that says everything has been converted but the file created is 0KB and of course will not open.
Any ideas about what could be going wrong? I've attempted to convert the files to different formats and try converting different files as well. I still have the problem.

Exporting from FCP for use with PC

Trying to deliver a high-med quality 8 minute video from FCP for use with a PC. I've tried exporting both a .mov and .avi using DVCPro50, but neither are readable through the PC. Best I can get is sometimes audio will show up. Does anyone have a good solution for exporting from FCP for use with a PC?

I don't think DVCpro50 codec is available on a PC. I think panasonic has a special license with apple only, so you need to try a different codec for the avi.

Genetic algorithm for use within LabVIEW

I want to use a genetic algorithm to optimise a control system. I was going to use MatLab because I can write the GA with that, but I cannot get it running fast enough with my C-DAQ. The alternative is to use LabView, but I could not write a GA VI. Do you know of a GA for use in LabVIEW?

I would like convert a c++ dll for use in labview--my device has no labview dll

I have a piezoelectric control board (Piezomechanik gmbh) that I would like to use through LabView. Currently, the company does not offer any support for Labview. Windows sees the device (It came with a driver file), but the company only provides dll files for C++ and Visual Basic. Can I convert these files to a format Labview can use? How can I get Labview to communicate with the control board (and ultimately the piezoelectric device attached to it)? Thanks!

This will only help you when you have the header file for the DLL, otherwise you will have to create the wrapper manually using the "Call library node" and the DLL api description or write an header file for the DLL yourself based on the api documentation and use the wizard.

I am a new mac user who switched from adobe premiere to FCE. I need to use some music from my itunes library in my FCE project. How do I convert itunes audio for use in FCE?

I'm pretty new to FCE, so this might be useless. But I've found a trick (obtained from "Final Cut Express 2 Editing Workshop" by Tom Wolsky) which is to render audio at Item Level. It allows you to render a piece of music to the same sampling level as another item.
It seems to work fine, but some of these guys who've used this more might know of problems when using it.
Import your song from the Music folder (or wherever you have them stored) and just go into the Sequence/Render All or Render Selection menus and check the "Item Level." The next time you render your audio, it should render to the same properties as existing items in your project.
At least, that's how I gather it works. This won't help with copy protected songs as the guys mentioned, but the majority of my songs are not from the iTunes store, so it's useful to me. Hope that helps!

How do I write a Dll to perform a union in visual studio for use in LabVIEW?

I'm new to writing dll(s). I'm attempting to write a Dll that will perform a union on a number from LabVIEW and then return the result to LabVIEW for my use. I've been struggling with this for a few days and I'm finally giving in to get some help.
This screenshot is the only description that I have to help me with what I am trying to do. Basically, I'm trying to pass a value that will be different based on a measured partial discharge value. In the screen below, the value used is "1061111989" This number is my reading. I need to pass this value from labVIEW into my dll to perform a union on it.
In my Dll, I need to write MeterReading.IntVal's value and get the MeterReading.FloatVal back.
I have Visual Studio 2012 Full and LabVIEW 2012 Full, I'm LabVIEW CLAD and I've written 17 test floors in the US to date; however, I've never had any need of Visual Studio until now. Can anyone help me out with this?

Sometimes, I try to solve simple issues in very complicated ways. What got me so confused here was the solution from the engineer of the device that I am reading from was using a union to get the value. I'm not familiar with unions so I thought that it was some structure that was not creatable in LabVIEW. Anyways, a typecast to single point gave me the proper value. Thank you.

How do I unlock a iPhone 4s that is from Verizon so I can use it on the AT&T network? My daughter's phone got wet and won't work. We tried her sim card in my wife's iPhone and it worked fine so we borrowed a iPhone from a friend for her to use until her upgrade is available. The borrowed iPhone is a 4s and is from the Verizon network and we are on the At&t network. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
