Convert video podcast to audio podcast

Hello!
My ipod can't show videos. There's a weekly discussion on a video podcast, that I would like to listen to on my ipod (without image because there is no visual action...). Is there possibility to extract just the sound and produce a "new" podcast out of this?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Well, this is really weird but sometimes the option is there and sometimes it's not.
Here's proof - look between "Reset Plays" and "Consolidate Files":
So the real question is how to get that to show, and I can't say for sure how I did it. The trick seems to be related to whether the episode is selected or not before you right-click on it, but that's not entirely it. I think what I did was click on an audio file, then right-click on the video file while the audio file was still highlighted.
It may be easier to just open the video in Quicktime Player, and use that to export the AAC audio.

• Converted video with no audio

i used the convert video to ipod file function on itunes and it worked except there is no audio. any suggestions to why that is?

Try using Videora or MPEG Streamclip to convert the videos; more information is available in this article.

• Converted videos have no audio??

I converted my videos to be formatted to my ipod but when I tried to listen to it the music video had no sound or audio at all.
When I play the video on itunes it doesn't have any sound either but the unconverted video does have audio?

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.

One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

but there are other applications besides MPEG Streamclip you can try as well.

• Converting video podcasts into audio podcasts?

I have an iPod Nano, so I obviously can't watch video podcasts on it. But that's fine with me because most all of my video podcasts are of stand up comedy. Is there anyway that I can just take the audio track off of a video podcast and save it as audio to put onto my Nano so that I can listen to the stand up comedy?
Thanks for your time if you're answering me.

Open the file in QuickTime and select Export from the File menu. In the dialog box that opens, select Sound to AIFF from the drop-down menu next to Export (near the bottom of the box). Add the exported file to iTunes and either leave it in AIFF format or use the Advanced menu (Convert Selection to _) to convert the file to MP3 or AAC. If you convert it, you can delete the original AIFF file afterwards.
You should be able to put the file on your iPod like you would any other music file even if you leave it in AIFF format.

• Convert video podcast to audio podcasts?

Hi,
Is it possible, within iTunes, to extract the audio from movies, video podcasts, and iTunes U videos? I know that I can export them into Quicktime and do it there, but it's time consuming. The reason I ask is that I download the files to my iPod, and I only need the audio. (I'm resubmitting this question because I received no response the first time.) Thanks.

Select/highlight the ones that you want to change in your iTunes library, do Get-Info (control-I) and change their Media Kind on their Options tab to 'Music Video' - and then similarly for the podcasts.

• Can you filter iTunes search results by video or audio podcasts?

I have been searching for hours and haven't found a definite answer. Anyone know if this is possible?
Can you filter iTunes search results by video or audio podcasts?

I'm having the same problem. I go to Podcasts/Video Podcasts/News and they only give the featured, favorites (whose?), etc. I want to see all video news podcasts but if I then click on see all, it drops the video classification and shows all news podcasts. The iTunes search in general leaves a lot to be desired; its not very intuitive or pleasant to use, not the usual Apple experience.

• Is there anyway to seperate audio podcasts from video podcasts?

is there any way to view a listing on video podcasts tthen a listing of audio podcasts in itunes?

Does anyone know of a solution ?
The only solution to remove this data from your phone is to go nuclear: Restore your phone as a "new" device in itunes, followed by syncing your content back to your phone. ALL data on your phone will be erased, including these "phantom" email addresses. There is no other way to remove this data from your phone.

• Video / Audio Podcast

If I go to Music -> Podcast I can listen but not watch video podcasts. If I go to Video -> Video Podcasts I can't listen to audio podcasts. I wish there is a top level Podcast option that can do both so I don't have to switch menus when switching between video/audio podcasts.) There doesn't seem to be a way, is there?

I'd be happy if they each had their own list and not mixed together in the audio list. If I want an audio podcast, I have to scroll through all the videos to get there! Seems to me keeping them in their own respective list would be more productive.

• ITunes categorises my podcast as 'video podcast' instead of 'audio podcast'

I'm new to this!
When I started, I had 'select any media file' ticked on my Feedburner preferences in 'create podcast enclosures from links to'. iTunes took this and added a random video I had uploaded ages ago (as well as the audio podcasts I wanted up) and put me into the video podcasts category. Once I sorted it out, I changed my preferences to read 'audio files only', and pinged etc.
iTunes has now updated everything, however the category remains stuck on video podcasting! I can't figure out how to change this. Is there something in the XML file? I've looked all through it and can't see anything I should change!
Or is it just that iTunes will take a while to update and reflect the changes?
Many thanks for your time.

I'm getting 'Podcasts>Audio Podcasts>Video Games>GAMINGtruth' which seems reasonable. Your category tags read
<itunes:category text="Games & Hobbies">
<itunes:category text="Video Games" />
</itunes:category>
So it looks as if it's sorted itself out.

• Video Podcasts Will Not Sync; Audio Podcasts Do

I recently upgraded my iPhone 4 to the ios 5. Now when I sync my iPhone to iTunes, my video podcasts will not sync. I have not changed any of my settings, and I noticed "All podcasts" is selected under Podcasts section. Audio podcasts sync fine. All was fine until I did the recent software upgrade. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

They are there. They are now under the "Video" app on the first page of your device. Seems like a pointless change to me. It took me a couple of days to find mine, too.

• Ipod won't play video/podcasts or audio only a black screen with the play symbol and volume/progress bar. games work fine! any ideas?

Ipod video classic 5th gen won't play video/podcasts or audio only a black screen with the play symbol and volume/progress bar. games work fine! any ideas?

Here's some more info.
I tried installing the latest iTunes to my housemate's PC, logging into iTMS with my account, authorizing his machine to play my content, restoring my iPod to the factory settings, downloading the videos and copying them to my iPod.
It worked fine, and I can play my videos.
I have done the exact SAME thing on my own home PC twice, after completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and the Apple Software Updater. But I still can't get any videos downloaded on my home PC to play on my iPods.
Any thoughts?

• Can I link video into my existing audio podcast stream?

I am a podcast producer for a non-profit and have just started doing videos too. How do I link video-casts into my show's existing podcast stream? I would appreciate help.
Thanks.

My original answer assumed you wanted to use streaming video, but probably I misread what you intended: the term 'stream' doesn't apply to a podcast. You can add video episodes to your podcast feed - there's no problem about some episodes being audio and some video.
Your video file must be .m4v, .mov or .mp4, not .wmv or .swf (Flash). You place them on an ordinary web server, just as you would with a web page, and link to them in the feed, which can be placed on the same server.
You should check that your server is configured to serve these video files - most are: enter the URL in Safari and the files should play in the browser window (you can also use FireFox but you will probably have to wait for the entire file to download before you can play it). If the browser downloads the file, or offers to, the server is not correctly configured and you need to talk to the people running it.

• Audio podcasts going into show folders, but not video podcasts

After upgrading to iTunes 7, I've noticed my video podcasts are not going into the proper show folders, but rather just being dumped into the ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library/Podcasts/ directory. Audio podcasts are working fine though, and each get moved into their proper show folders. Its just highly annoying, because most of the video podcasts don't have descriptive names, just the date of release, so its confusing when I go to burn some off to DVD (my podcasts directory, I keep at around 10gigs, and thats just the current stuff). Its not just *.mov, but *.m4v's as well. Anyway to fix this?

I'm finding it really annoying, because its getting really disorganized.

• Podcast Videocast/ Audio only not showing up in itunes podcast feed

Hi Everyone, I work on a site called Truthdig and we can't get our latest audio (mp3) only podcast to show up in our itunes podcast feed, latest podcast episodes have been video. is this what is causing the problem? Could it be something else? Advice? Wisdom? Please help.

FYI, your link to your podcast in iTunes is wrong, it should be
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=299750047
Your feed validates, and I can't see anything wrong with it. Plainly the iTunes Store is failing to pick it up: it's been known for the Store not to be happy with feed URLs with a '?' in them, but presumably you haven't changed the feed URL since the original episode?
I can only suggest you approach Support:

(email link at the bottom of the page).
