Convert Website to PDF on Vista 64-bit

Hi,
using Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 on Vista 64-bit both German versions. In Internet Explorer I see the Acrobat toolbar with all menu items. But regardless what I choose (Convert to PDF, Settings etc.) nothing happens! All other Microsoft Office Plugins work fine. All desired IE-AddOns seem to be there.
For installation I manually expanded the AdobePDF.dll_64 from Data1.cab, renamed it and used it within the installation process. The problem occured both on Vista Business 64 and Ultimate 64 (DVD incl. SP1) which I installed yesterday on a fresh formatted partition.
Any Ideas? Thanks in advance
Andreas

Solution: Download a current distribution of Acrobat Professional 8.
New download: 515 MB
Original download: 478 MB
With the original distribution I was prompted for the AdobePDF.dll at the end of the installation process. However, with Vista SP1 installed first, neither method of supplying the AdobePDF.dll_64 (renamed of course) or AdobePDF.dll file worked.
Note: If I tried using the *.dll_64 it would give me a javascript error when printing from a web page.
I also replaced splwow64.exe and spoolsv.exe with copies from Vista SP1 distributable. This didn't remedy the problem either.
I did notice that two sets of files were created during the print process:
00001.SHD SHD File 3KB
00001.SPL ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash 0KB
The only way to remove these files from C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS was to issue a net stop command.
"net stop spooler"
The files are still in use so you must stop the splwow64.exe process (hint: use Task Manager). Then you can delete the files. If you do not delete these files before reinstalling, these files will still show up in the Print Manager.
To restart the printer subsystem, issue the following command: "net start spooler"
I also came across a tech document indicating that a manifest error found in the Event Viewer should be looked at. It suggested that Nero 8 could be the culprit. Hence, I removed Nero 8 completely and used a clean up too as directed (General-CleanTool.zip or General-CleanTool_2_2_0_37.exe). This didn't remedy the problem either.
I then found a tech document that said to install the update Windows6.0-KB930627-x64 ..... (MS quote) Install this update to resolve an issue where the private data of the DEVMODE data structure may be corrupted on a 64-bit version of Windows when using a 32-bit application in raw mode to print a document. (end of MS quote) Since Vista SP1 was installed it was not possible to install this patch.
Also, there was another tech document that suggested that I install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Feature Pack Redistributable Package (x64) .... (aka: vcredist_x64.exe). Once installed, it did trigger an unexpected event. It triggered the installation of MS Office 2003 Service Pack 3 via the Update process. Previoulsy, Vista did not even hint that there was additional download available. How do you like that for bugs in Vista? *sigh*
I previously mentioned in the above postings that this only affected the Internet browsers. However, after further investigation I found I could not print a PDF from any application. This included all the applications under MS Office too.
One other note: After finally finding a solution, I found that Internet Explorer 8 (Beta 2) was not a good choice to use with the PDF Print function. It cuts off the sides of the web page and prints only the first web page. Additional pages are left blank in the final PDF document. Therefore, I removed the update (IE 8 is considered an update by MS).

  • Converting website to PDF - landscape

    Newbie question:
Usually website converting is okay (portrait), but sometimes I think it better to convert website pages to landscape orientation.
    Is this possible?
If so, how am I to proceed?
Is it possible to have Acrobat ask which orientation?
Or alternatively add a landscape oriented conversion to the context menu?
Is it possible to resize the page, for example, when drag top margin down so things I dont need won't be printed
and or insert a page separator, so e.g. images are not cut into two (one part on page 1, other part on page 2)
A little bit like the below (gave it a try to illustratie what I mean)
    Acrobat Pro XI
    Thanks !

You can set the page orientation for web capture in Acrobat by selecting File > Create PDF from Web Page > Settings button. In the Conversion dialog select the Page Layout tab.

  • Right Click to convert webpage to pdf creates pdf with website headers but not iframe content

    Hello
We are having a problem converting webpages to pdf with Acrobat.  Out website uses Iframes to view the website we are converting to pdf.  When I right click on the webpage and click convert to pdf everything works fine. But the pdf that is created is only the header of the page not the content of the iframe I right clicked on.  If you go to file and print to pdf it works fine we get the content of the iframe in the pdf and not the rest of the webpage. But the users prefer to right click. Is there some way to fix this so we can right click to convert to pdf?
    Thanks
    Jason

I dont think acrobat can convert iframes to pdf (need to check). It can convert html, some javascript, images and swfs for example. Data driven pages, depending of the programming cant be converted too.

  • Website to PDF - Keeping links ...

    Hi
I've been asked to do a job where I have to convert a website so that each page is a pdf.
I have done this using the convert web to pdf website which is free and brilliant.  It keeps the links which is impressive.
However it plonks a logo down the bottom of the convert2pdf website down the bottom which the client doesnt want.  He also wants various other things link at the top of each web page there is a "join the mailing list" bit which he wants removed.
I thought of bringing the pdf into indesign and just covering the things he doesnt want with white boxes and re-pdfing but then the links disapear.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Cheers

I have tried to use this function but the page doesnt come out in the correct format.  It seems to take the menu bar and make it into a list, one under the other!

  • Memory Problems with Adobe PDF iFilter for 64-bit

In preparation to rebuild my Windows Search Index, I installed the Adobe PDF iFilter for 64-bit on my system (Vista Business 64).  When I finally rebuilt the index, I wasn't too surprised by what I saw happen, namely, the SearchFilter.exe process would kick in whenever I wasn't using the system and just eat RAM.  One time I turned it on and it had allocated over 4,000 MB (and my system only has 4,030 MB available) so of course it was forcing all the other processes to hard fault (ie. everything was moving like molasses--for example, it took 20 minutes to put the thing to sleep).  But I just let it do it's work, figuring that perhaps this was to be expected relative to the small library of PDF's that I've accumulated on my computer, ranging from LaTeX generated text files, to containers for hi-res scans.  So, after a day and a half of basically not using my laptop, everything finally calmed down and I enjoyed the benefits of searching the content of my library from the Windows Start menu--for a short while.
However, to my dismay I've encountered the problem that this freezing of my computer would now occur after everytime I download a new PDF (in this particular case they were Google Books scans) and then left the computer to idle.  Again, the SearchFilter.exe would allocate all of my RAM for itself and just push everything else onto the Virtual RAM, which means the SLOWEST possibly fetching you can get.  I had to uninstall as this was making my computer unusable for 15-30 minutes after each idle. Everything is back in working order without the iFilter, but I would like to know if anyone has reported such problems on x64 systems.  Obviously, I will also report the problem to Microsoft, since the search engine should certainly have the precaution to handle such memory problems.   However, it is a problem that is created by the Adobe PDF iFilter interacting with the Windows Search engine.

    Hello,
We believe we have figured this out.  It looks like it has to do with the length of the default folder location for the Adobe iFilter.
I was able to reproduce the issue and the following resolved it for me.  See if this resolves it for you all as well.
Here is how to get Adobe Version 11 PDF filter to work.
1 . If you haven’t already, run the following in SQL Server:
    Sp_fulltext_service ‘Load_os_resources’, 1
    Go
--you might also need to run:
sp_fulltext_service ‘Verify_signature’,0  --This is used to validate trusted iFilters. 0 disables it. So use with caution.
    --go
    2. Stop SQL Server.  (Make sure FDHost.exe stops)
    3.
Uninstall the Adobe ifilter (because it defaulted to having spaces or the folder name is too long).
    4.
Reinstall the Adobe iFilter and when it prompts for where to install it, change it to: C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter
    5.  Once the installation finishes, go the computer’s Environment variables. Add the following to the PATH.
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter\BIN
NOTE: it must include the BIN folder
NOTE: If you had the OLD location that included spaces, remove it from the path environment variable.
    6. Start SQL Server
    7.  IF you had an existing Full-text index on PDFs, drop the full-text index and recreate it.
    8. You should now get results when you run sys.dm_fts_index_keywords('db','tblname')  --Note: Change db to be the actual database name and tblname to be the actual table name.
Give this a try and see if this fixes yours.
    Sincerely,
    Rob Beene, MSFT

  • Is Creative Alchemy Supported on Vista 64 bit? Attention Creative Mod p

    Ok I'm confused.
I've had a creative X-Fi Fatalty card for a couple of years that came with a Mesh pc I bought.
So I buy all the kit for a new pc and think I can just move the card across. I install Vista 64, install service pack and all is peachy apart form my Razer mouse that needs a new driver.
I install a load of old games and they work fine. Some fine tuning for allowing games to run as admin, but considering my new pc is so much faster, and the greater security (i've been told, and call me sad?but i believe it) I'm thinking its worth it.
Wow I think, this vista malaky's great!
Pop in my creative?soundcard?download the drivers and think here we go.
So I install Half life 2. A fairly old game. And it all starts going wrong. I load up the first level and I suddenly only have 2.0 sound.
open up the console and notice all kinda errors (on screen node graph out of date, A. I.disabled, and a load more in the console when i look).
Are they caused by Vista or Creative? I dunno, i didn't load half life prior to installing the card so it could be either to be fair.
So I read up more to try to work it out and I come across a funny thing. If in Creatives download manger pages you tell it you have a creative Fatalty soundcard, and you have a vista 64bit operating system then there are no downloads.
But if you put in Vista 32 bit then you get offered the Alchamey drivers. Which state that they are for 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista.
Now i've been looking at these forums for the last 2 days and I'm begining to feel a little worried. I'm not a sound Guru and I don't understand alot of whats been discussed. I don't feel i'm in a place to pass judgemnt on Creative cos the only contact I've had with their support staff was with a Zen Micro that was out of warrenty and they fixed that for free. Didn't even charge me P&P to send it back!
So I'm really not sure where I stand. I'm about to download the alchemy software that may/may not work with vista 64 by admission of their own website, and can't help but feel that support isn't quite what I was hoping for, and used to. Is the MP3 part of Creative effectivly a seperate company or something?
Now I don't want to start yet another bash creative post.
What I'd really like is a comment from Creative as to why their driver page does/doesn't offer you the right downloads and a solution to my problem.
Call me selfish but I kinda dcame to the Creative Help forums for some, well, Help.
I'd really appreciate if all the pro and anti forum trolls could stay off this topic and give creative a chance to show they can do good support.

JohnZS, thanx very much for the prompt response. I really do appreciate it.
But let me get this straight.
I've had to download a software package from a page I shouldn't have been at.
I have to add values to a software package that I have to rely on good natured people on a forum to supply.
And no offence, but even then I don't have the whole answer. I have to search manually for the registry or game path for the ?.exe? I assume (I'm doing this whilst tring to solve my prob, so I could well be wrong about this) tomake the **bleep** think work.
And this thing is Vista stickered?
Ok still going with the no bandwagon jumping plse people, I'm just an honest guy with no agenda apart from blowing **bleep** up on my poota as a stress release, so I'd like to see from Creative where I'm going wrong here.
Oh I seriously forgot the no swearing policy, and on forums like this I do agree with it, its just its late, i'm a bit annoyed, and to be frank, slightly drunk.

  • ITunes Disables My Internet On Vista 64-Bit

I don't know if anyone has ever heard of this issue, but let me detail this as much as I can, and see if anyone knows of a work around...
So I recently set up my girlfriend's network, with her ISP's modem and a Linksys wireless router (http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WRT54GL). I set it up with wireless security (WPA-Personal). I connected to her wireless network with her computer, an HP laptop running Windows Vista 64-bit, my Acer Aspire One (ZG5) running Windows XP SP3, a Dell Inspiron 600m running Windows XP SP2 and my iPhone 3GS, with the 3.1.2 OS. All were able to access the internet flawlessly, with NO issues.
I then bought her a 5th Gen Nano. When I ordered it, I told her to start learning iTunes, so she downloaded it, and was looking around it. This is when the issues started...
She was still able to get online through IE, and she downloaded Windows Live Messenger. However, it would not connect for her.
She was e-mailing me later that night, and everything worked. However, the next day, she called me, informing me that the internet was now inaccessible...
I came over to check on the network, and my laptop connected to her network, but had a sketchy internet connection. Now, please don't misunderstand that, as I had a 5 bar, immensely strong and stable connection with her WiFi, as I was sitting right next to the router. When I used IE (and FireFox), I would be able to access Google about once every 5 attempts.
Her computer (the HP) could not connect at all. My iPhone seemed to be doing okay with the connection. I pinged Google and Yahoo! from the CMD Prompt, and was always given a reply each time.
I couldn't figure out what was going on, and she had been making a comment about wishing her computer was back to the way it was, so being that most Vista laptops (from what I've experienced) have recovery partitions on the HDD, I reformatted it and restored it to the "out of the box" defaults.
Everything worked good then. All devices were able to access the internet EVERY TIME attempted.
I then installed iTunes 9.0.1 again on her computer, and that's when the issues started again. Once everything was installed, it gave the network issues. I had internet issues (not CONNECTION issues with the router) with my laptop (the Acer). My iPhone was unable to access the internet from here, and I had to pop over to the 3G network.
To rule out ANY conflicting software, I pruned her computer and removed all unnecessary software that had been reinstalled through the reformat restore (trial burning software, trial ISP stuff, etc.). I could still not access the internet through any of the three devices. This time I had NO successful attempts, as I had last time.
However, here's the two things that really irritated me to no end. On her computer, Windows Update was actively downloading the updates. However, nothing else that accessed the internet was working (Live Messenger, iTunes store, IE, FireFox, etc.). And my computer wouldn't work online. Nothing...yet pinging different websites still responded...
Anyways, I uninstalled iTunes on her computer and magically the "block" on the internet was lifted. All three devices were able to access the internet with no issues at all...
When I got home later that night, I looked into the issue a little, and noticed that apparently iTunes has some specific conflictions with HP and Logitech drivers, especially when it comes to Vista, and this IS an HP computer. However, what baffles me is that iTunes being installed on JUST HER COMPUTER seemed to put a block on the internet from the wireless router...I would've thought if there were an issue, it would've just blocked her computer from the internet, not mine and my iPhone...*it was as if iTunes on her computer cut the connection from her modem to her wireless router*...
What gets me even more is that I have iTunes 9.0.18 on MY laptop, and it caused NO conflictions with her network...I'm baffled...this is just goofy for me to have to find an alternative to iTunes JUST FOR HER COMPUTER, otherwise it pretty much takes down her internet connection, YET NOT HER NETWORK!!! And what gets me even more is that Windows Update WAS STILL DOWNLOADING UPDATES!!!
I checked her WiFi router settings when I re-set it up, and all restrictions were off, and any permissions that would cause a block in the network by unknown stuff were off...I just don't get it...anyone have any insight on this?
If you have any questions for me, to get more detail to help me rule out this issue, just ask. I'd REALLY like to reinstall iTunes on her computer, instead of another program. I've actually downloaded the older versions of iTunes (as in my research, I read that anything after 7.7.1 apparently causes issues with Vista running HPs, due to some driver or file incompatibility...). Hoping that 7.7.1, 8.0, 8.2.1 or 9.0 (not 9.0.1) can resolve this, so at least she can still use iTunes...
    *HELP!!! Please!!!*

It is not just the HP. I have 3 HP computes and 2 Dell computers. 2 of the HP and 1 Dell suffer the iTunes internet block. Took me a while to figure it out also. But, the one thing that is different on the Dell, is that I can leave iTunes installed and not open it and everything works. As soon as I open it, internet access goes down. BUT secure sites (https:) works fine.

I have no idea what to do, any help?

I'm curious, are you also having trouble connecting to the iTumes store with iTunes 10.5?  I'm having the same Safari problem and also can't connect to the store.  Tons of people are having the store connection problem, but I haven't seen any others mention the connection issue wth Safari as well.
As for me, I've tried everything on these forums so far and haven't found a good solution.

    Dated: 7/30/2008
Using data from its Windows Update servers, Microsoft calculated that 1.45% of all Windows Vista machines were running x64 Vista editions in March of this year. By June, that figure was up to 5.18%. That number is actually more impressive than it sounds: by my back-of-the-envelope calculations, making that shift in total market share means that at least 20% of all Vista PCs sold in the second quarter of this year came with 64-bit editions of Windows Vista preinstalled. By fall, it’s possible, even likely, that we’ll reach a tipping point, with more than 50% of new PCs sold at retail coming with 64-bit editions of Windows Vista preinstalled.
The problem is that for laptops you need to use expensive 4 GB SODIMMs which for PC2-5300  which is used in the older T61 you can purchase for about $200 each for a total of $400 for 8 GB which is not too bad of a price:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231202
But the newer laptops use the faster PC3-8500 which comes in the 2 GB module at $45 for a total of $90 for 4 GB.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148192
And the 4 GB PC3-8500 is about $500 or a total of $1000 for 8 GB.
    http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT51264BC1067
Is there a way to use the cheaper PC2-5300 4 GB modules in the T400 and save $600?
