Convert XFA-Forms in AcroForms

Hello,
is there a possibility to convert a pdf which contains a xml form to an pdf with the same form as AcroForm?
Background: I want to create a form with the designer but I need a pdf with acroform without xml form because there is an acrobat plugin which need acroform
Chris ;-)

You can do it but its quite a job and in a way it will be like designing the form twice. First, you will add and layout all your fields in Designer. Then once you are happy with the layout, you need to PRINT the form to PDF (Note: this is Print and not Save As). It will then be a flat page with no fields on it. Then you can open that flat PDF in Acrobat and then add the fields again where the old fields used to be. None of the Designer functionality will exist in this new form so you cant add scripts in designer and bring them into the Acroform. Scripts will need to be added in Acrobat itself.

  • Convert XFA form to static PDF

    Hi,
I have few XFA form and i wanted to convert them to static pdf.
could you please tell me if it is possible via Coldfusion.I would be great if you could share sample code\approach to do this.
    regards

    Hi,
    you have several options.
    1)     Print the form with a PDF printer — Produces a completely non-interactive PDF file with a very small file size
    2)     Use JavaScript to lock down all or specific form fields — can also be combinated with password protection and preserves the interactivity of the form for further changes

  • Convert XFA form to PDF document

Within a process, I have form defined as a xfa variable and user can fill it in workspace and also include attachment when submitting the form.
Then after the form is processed, approved by manager I need to convert it to a pdf(which should contain attachments) and save it to a folder. how can I do that?
    Thanks.

There is another way but it's a manual process and it's a HACK. Using this process will basically kill any XFA or JS functionality that was in the form previously. So proceed at your own risk...
Use a tool that can view and edit the internals of a "static" LiveCycle PDF form (i.e. Windjack's PDFCanOpener).
    Delete the XFA dictionary
Do a SaveAs to a new form name.
    Close the form
Re-open the form and then you should be able to edit the form with the Acroform tools.
Note: This WILL NOT work with dynamic forms.

  • Keep getting failure msg saying can't convert file containing XFA forms. help

I just purchased the adobe convert program to convert this one file I need now and it won't work!  it says it can't convert XFA forms. Help! How do I do this?

You can't. What it says is true, and it doesn't really matter what an XFA form is except that you have one.
But let's go back a step. Why do you need to convert? What is the problem you want to solve? XFA forms are designed to be filled in, printed, and have their fields exported - that's all, and all most people ever need too. Converting forms to other formats almost never solves the problem people think they have.

  • Xfdf supporting java library for xfa form provided by Adobe ?

I had been working to find that how we can handle the newer xfdf format and explored many pdf libraries including Apache PDFBox and iTtext.
While exploring I found that the underlying architecture for the pdf  itself could be either Xfa (composed in livecyle designer)  or Acroform(composed in acrobat tool). The forms available with us are third party provided form and  are Xfa forms.
Acroforms are properly supported in all these libraries but I see very less support for Xfa.
Is there any java liberaries provided by Adobe to work with xfdf format in Xfa Forms ?
    Thanks

Thanks , but pls elaborate more on this .
Is it LiveCycle ES3 Server ? If yes which jar do I need for this purpose. Any documentation to go with it ?

  • I am unable to convert a pdf file to word as I get the error message indicates it contains XFA forms

I am unable to convert a pdf file to word as I get the error message that pdf files containing XFA forms cannot be saved to the specified format.

    Hi curtlea,
XFA forms are not regular PDF's but XML files in a PDF shell.
To create a word file from those files, you first have to flatten the XFA forms by printing as PDF with the Adobe PDF Printer.
Then you can save using ExportPDF the created static PDF as Word document.

  • Unable to convert pdf's with XFA forms

Why can I not convert a PDF file with XFA forms to Word?

XFA is its own little world, and very few tools will touch it. In any case, ExportPDF isn't for converting filled in forms, I think.

  • Batch sequence to 'flatten' xfa form to static non-interactive AcroForm

    Hi,
I'm looking for a way to flatten a bunch of xfa forms in a batch sequence. The result being the exact same as printing to pdf.
I believe I use to just add optimizer settings in the sequence editor and that would do the trick. But now I'm getting an error saying optimization settings cannot be applied to an xfa form.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Kyle

Actually George I found a solution. They are dynamic xfa forms. I realized that the pdf printer settings has an option to suppress the save as dialog and default the output flat pdfs to a location of my choosing. I just set the pdf printer as my default printer and run a batch sequence to print the dynamic pdfs.
It requires a decent system with lots of memory since an instance of Acrobat is opened for every pdf processed but it does the trick!
    I appreciate your response.

  • Failed export to Excel PDF files contain XFA forms cannot save in specified format

Has this excercise been a waste in time and money. Like my car I will put petrol oil water and air where they need to go but don't care how they make the car work as long as it goes

Converting forms to fill them in is never a good idea; if they are official forms it can be a catastrophe. Keep the forms as PDF, don't convert.
XFA forms are ALREADY FILLABLE. If you can't fill it there is a fault.

  • Why can't I export a PDF containing XFA forms to a word doc?

I have an application that I'm trying to export to a word doc, so I can save the modifications that I make. I get an error message that states that "PDF's containing XFA forms cannot be saved to this format" Can someone tell me what this means?

I just have the reader, but I do have the capability to export and convert PDF's to either word or excel. I just checked the posting and it has to be mailed. I was just trying to save my work, but being that I have to literally mail it USPS, I will  have to print it off anyway. Thanks for your help. I guess if I had read the posting a little closer, I could of saved us some typing.

  • SWF in XFA Form?

    Hi everybody,
I'm trying to insert an SWF-file (Flex-Application) in a PDF-Form, which was created with LCD ES.
Is it correct, that the only way to do this, is the new Flash-Tool in Acrobat 9?
When I try it with Acrobat 9, I can't insert the SWF because of the security limitations created by LCD although I didn't specify any limitations. I can't change the document at all in Acrobat 9...how can I get the SWF inside the XFA form?
    Thanks in advance...

    Sorry,
That is the closest I have seen for having multimedia in a XFA form.
LiveCycle generates an XFA form, which is "wrapped" in a PDF structure. While an XFA form opens in Acrobat, it is fundamentally different from an AcroForm (Acrobat form) and a normal PDF.
When you open an XFA form in Acrobat there are a lot of (normal) PDF functionality that is not available. Inserting a Flash movie is just one of them.
There is no way around this. You will not be able to use the insert SWF command when in an XFA form.
    Good luck,
    N.

    Acrobat Reader

gracias por responder mi inquietud, tengo un problema, traté de convertir un texto de PDF hacia work y salió este errorAdobe Reader for iOS can read most PDF files. It cannot do conversions. It also has limitations and cannot read some kinds of XFA forms.
    que puedo hacer para resolverlo.

  • PDF with XFA forms to excel or word?

I am trying to convert pdfs with XFA forms in them to an excell document but get an error message stating that documents with XFA forms cannot be converted into this format. Any way around this? Any way to remove XFA forms? Im pretty lost.

If you removed the XFA forms there would be nothing left. XFA forms are a complete replacement for normal PDF - a different kind of form, pretending to be a PDF. There's very little you can do with them, except fill them in, or export form data. Maybe print-to-PDF?
Beware if these are official/government forms. Converting them will usually leave them invalid and your application unacceptable.
