Convert xsl and xsl to pdf
Hi,
In our project, we generate reports using xalan parser in PDF and HTML formats. Now, my client wants them to be generated in RTF (Ms Word) format as well. As this is not possible using xalan, I tried to find out other parsers. I found one JFOR which generates RTFdocs from XSLFO. What I have is only XML and XSL documents. How can I get XSLFO document using these two? Is there any parser which generates XSLFO docs using XML and XSL? Or is there any parser which generates RTF docs directly from XML and XSL?
Thanks
Jagadeesh
As this is not possible using xalanWhy is it not possible? RTF is a text format as far as I know, and you can output text from XSLT.

Converting XML and XSL into HTML
Hello!
I'm designing a servlet class that merges an xml file and xsl file into html that will be sent to the client. But I don't understand how the (sparsely documented) javax.xml.transform.dom package works. An exception is generated for a missing "version" tag, when I've included one that has worked on client-side xml/xsl pages before. If it matters, I'm using Apache Tomcat/JDK 1.4.
Here's the code:package mypackage.servlet.xml;
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
import javax.servlet.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;
import javax.xml.transform.*;
import javax.xml.transform.dom.*;

openFile("D:/Webdev/xml2html/data.xml", "D:/Webdev/xml2html/style.xsl", writer);
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace(writer);

Document xslDoc = builder.parse(xslFile);

Node xslDocNode = (Node)xslDoc;
DOMSource xmlSrc = new DOMSource(xmlDocNode);
DOMSource xslSrc = new DOMSource(xslDocNode);
DOMResult htmlResult = new DOMResult();
Transformer transformer = tFact.newTransformer(xslSrc); // the exception occurs here!

var xmlDocument = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM");
xmlDocument.load(xmlUrl);
var xslDocument = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM");
xslDocument.load(xslUrl);
return xmlDocument.transformNode(xslDocument);
}Any help would be greatly appreciated.Hi!
I found the immediate answer with
dbFact.setNamespaceAware(true);As for parser, I'm just using the default JDK install. But I'd like to hear more on Xalan. Is it independent open source? How does Xalan compare to whatever is default in JDK?

Convert doc and xls to pdf UNIX
Hi all!
I have a problem.
I need a software that make a conversion of documents DOC and XLS to PDF, but specify for Unix (IBM AIX). I have a Dms server(UNIX) with douments doc an xls, and i want lead the document to the portal in PDF format.
Thank youkelvin_nitk wrote:
Thanks anyways, I feel POI is not the solution for my problem.If your requirement is that your PDF should look exactly like what happens when you load a document into Excel and then have Excel output it to a printer, then you are correct. Unfortunately nothing else is the solution for your problem, either, except trying to not have that requirement any more.
Unless you can cobble something together where you actually run Excel and persuade it to output using a PDF printer driver like the one the previous poster described, or like PDFCreator which I use to make things into a PDF. But you're much more likely to get all those bits working together with something that can manipulate Windows internal things better than Java can. -
Cannot view PDF created by passing xml and XSL-FO using UTL_HTTP
Hi,
Using UTL_HTTP Iam trying to contact a servlet which uses the input XML and XSL/FO to produce a PDF.However, when I run the procedure , I get the following error 'File does not begin with -%PDF' ? I checked the output on the console and the blob values does not start with %PDF . Below is the sample from my code , please let me know if Iam commiting a mistake somewhere. I confirmed that the servlet itself is working fine by confirming with test webpage that takes xml and stylesheet input and generates a PDF when 'submitted' to servlet on the click of a button.
INSERT INTO TESTPDF ( PDF_REPORT ) VALUES ( Empty_Blob() ) RETURNING PDF_REPORT INTO vBlobRef;
vReportURL :='/rufop/fop?xml='||xmldoc||'&xsltRPath=../../test/PAXSL.xsl';
req := UTL_HTTP.BEGIN_REQUEST (url=>vReportURL, method=>'POST');
resp := utl_http.get_response(req);
loop
begin
Utl_Http.read_raw(resp, vData);
Dbms_Lob.writeAppend ( lob_loc => vBlobRef , amount => Utl_Raw.length(vData) , buffer => vData );
exception
when utl_http.end_of_body then
exit;
end;
end loop;
Utl_Http.end_response(resp);
owa_util.mime_header('application/pdf',false);
htp.p('Content-Disposition: inline; filename="test.pdf"');
htp.p('Content-Length: '|| dbms_lob.getlength(vBlobRef));
owa_util.http_header_close;
wpg_docload.download_file(vBlobRef);
Thanks in advance,
JenHello guys! I have been assigned the same task,i.e to generate pdf through xml using xsl stylesheet.
I have a procedure which is creating the xml and the stylesheet. But I have no idea how to write the procedure which passes this xml to fo engine. I am very new to this. Can anyone please share your thoughts with me so as how to accomplish this? By reading blogs on internet I figured I would have to use UTIL_HTTP but don't know how.

Is XML+XSL possible within a PDF?
Hello!
After much searching all I could find were articles about converting xml+xsl INTO a pdf file. I'm wondering if I could embed XML+XSL INSIDE a pdf file and have it render. Does Reader support XSL processing? I'm new to pdf generation in general so any tips or advice would be useful and there is very little on the interwebs about XSL inside a pdf.
Thank you!After looking at http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/opensource/index.html I was under the impression that Reader used the Sablotron engine for some reason. What adobe products use Sablotron and XSL then?

I am have a PDF-ducument generated with Apache FOP. The PDF document contains a hyperlink. When I open the PDF-document, after generation, in the browser and I click on the hyperlink in the PDF-document. The hyperlink will be opened in the same window as the PDF-document. So I am losing my generated PDF-document, and I need to regerate.
While I am looking in my generated XSL file, I find the following :
<fo:basic-link show-destination="new"><xsl:attribute name="external-destination"><xsl:value-of select="URL"/></xsl:attribute><xsl:value-of select="FR"/></fo:basic-link>I think normally the link should be opened in a new window?
If someone has a sollution to solve this problem it would be very helpful.

Guy

Using resourceDescription in SUBSCRIPTIONBUNDLED_Email.xsl and xml's.
Hello all,
We are trying to use the Primitive Template "resourceDescription" (as described in "Customizing Notifications"-pdf) in the SUBSCRIPTIONBUNDLED_EMAIL.xsl and SUBSCRIPTIONBUNDLED_en.xml.
Could anyone urgently let me know if it's possible to use this Primitive Template in the xsl and xml mentioned?
It looks like the "resourceDescription" is not being passed on to the bundlednotificationdata-section in the xml?
Any other suggestion in how to get the "resourceDescription" available in Daily Summary Subscription emails?
Thanks in advance,
Tim.Hello Alan,
Yes; as far as I know the only way to get your changes to any of the email notification xml files visible is by restarting the server
The notification email xsl I'm working on is the one for the daily notifications (subscriptionbundled_email.xsl).
My problem is that it seems that the resourceDescription is not being passed on by the java code that is populating the section in the xml file containg the resource information...
Unfortunately no confirmation about this yet (raised OSS with SAP as well).
I'm expecting this resourceDescription to contain the text that you can fill in using standard KM in the Description field of a resource.
I do wonder how/where your users populate the subject and description fields? Standard SAP KM or custom app?
Cheers,
Tim. -
Help-XML report which uses XSL-FO and XSL-FO contains OAF VO
Hello All,
I want to know functionality of one XML report developed by Oracle.
From one oracle form after clicking one button, it is populating PDF file output of report to open.
Here is what Oracle has done to achieve this:
On the click of button on oracle form, it is calling one OAF form. (fnd_function.execute(function_name=> 'ONT_PRINT').
This OAF form contains nothing on its layout. One CO (File is attached) and AM is attached to this OAF page.
In CO, may be it is somehow it is calling RTF file.
I got the RTF file from XML publisher, RTF imports one XSL-FO (ONTBSAEXSL is a Template of XSL-FO type in Oracle apps in XMP Publisher administrator responsibility) file using <?import:xdo://ONT.ONTBSAEXSL.en.00/?>
In the XSL file, OAF View Objects has been used like,
<xsl:variable name="LinesVO" select="/*/HeaderVO/HeaderVORow/LinesVO/LinesVORow"/>
What is the meaning of " /*/HeaderVO/HeaderVORow/LinesVO "? Does it mean LinesVO is getting called by HeadersVO. But in OAF this never happens.
I want to add some columns in the RTF from LinesVO. But "Unit price" is not available in LinesVO.
Do I need to extend this VO in JDeveloper and upload the .JPX and extended VO files?
I have done extending the VO, but no use..
So,
In short my question is,
If I extend the VO LinesVO by XXLinesVO, then will this <xsl:variable name="LinesVO" select="/*/HeaderVO/HeaderVORow/LinesVO/LinesVORow"/>
statement in XSL-FO use my XXLinesVO or LinesVO?
Regards,
ParagI want to customize one RTF template by adding some columns. This RTF imports one XSL-FO stylesheet.
RTF has tags like <?for-each:/*/HeaderVO/HeaderVORow/LinesVO/LinesVORow?>
and XSL file has tags like <xsl:variable name="InternalOrgName" select="/*/HeaderVO/HeaderVORow/InternalOrgVO/InternalOrgVORow/Name"/>
If I want to add one colun in LinesVO, what are all things I need to do?
I customized it by adding the new columns through JDeveloper and extending the VO's and substituting them, importing JPX and bounced apache.
But the XSL-FO file is very strange (attached herewith). Those changes are not reflecting in report even after extension. -
I am querying a database with XSQL and then returning the results in XML which is interpreted by an XML-stylesheet. The stylesheet is used to convert the xml to html. I have trouble however putting the output from my sql query into the value fields of my xsl-html-to-be document. For example:
<select id="logname" name="LOG_NAME" size="1">
<xsl:for-each select="ROWSET/ROW">
<option value="FOO"><xsl:value-of select="LOG_NAME"/></option></xsl:for-each>

I would like this value FOO to be the same as what is being displayed, which in this case is the LOG_NAME. I tried to set the value to
<option value = "<xsl:value-of select="LOG_NAME"/>"> however that does not work since the xsl gives me a problem saying that cannot have < after the value = ...
Is there a way to do this. I tried {,( and nothing works.Hi Patrycja,
if I understood right, I think this could be helpful:
<select id="logname" name="LOG_NAME" size="1">
<xsl:for-each select="ROWSET/ROW">
<option>
<xsl:attribute name="value">
<xsl:value-of select="LOG_NAME" />
</xsl:attribute>
<xsl:value-of select="LOG_NAME"/>
</option>
</xsl:for-each>
</select>
Try it and let me know if it doesn't work

XSL and SQL query : special chars such as ampersand
Hello,
I've got this to create canonical XML file :
PROCEDURE CANONICAL_XML_XSL(query IN VARCHAR2,
p_file_path IN VARCHAR2,
p_file_name IN VARCHAR2)
AS
Ctx DBMS_XMLGEN.ctxHandle; -- Var's to convert SQL output to XML
v_xml clob;
xmlc varchar2(4000); -- Var's required to convert lob to varchar
off integer := 1;
len integer := 4000;
v_file Utl_File.File_Type;
v_more BOOLEAN := TRUE;
xsldoc VARCHAR2(4000);
l_Output XMLType;
lXMLData XMLType;
BEGIN
-- to parametize later the XSL file
-- XSL DEFINITION TO TRANSFORM TO A FLAT FILE
xsldoc :='<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"><xsl:output method="text"/>
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:for-each select="ROWSET/ROW">
<xsl:value-of select="LIGNE"/>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
Ctx := DBMS_XMLGEN.newContext(query);
lXMLData := DBMS_XMLGEN.GETXMLTYPE (Ctx,DBMS_XMLGEN.NONE);
l_Output := lXMLData.transform(XMLType(xsldoc));
clob_to_file(p_file_path,p_file_name,l_Output.getClobVal());
END;
Ok, it works but in the query some value could have &, >, < ... and when the XML is generated I should have $amp; for & etc ...
-> if I use PSLQL function : REPLACE, sqlplus thinks that $amp; is a bind variable !
Does someone have a solution ?
thanks
RomeoI'm working on CRM in ORACLE APPLICATION 11i,
for example to generate a file containing addresses with "customer name" such as "Johnson & Johnson".
using the procedure :
query='select customer_name LIGNE from customer_table", the procedure will apply for each rows ( LIGNE ) the xsl I defined ( here a canonical XML output -> XSL transfomation ).
I have found this on a website ( using XSL ) :
Replace a string
If you've searched for a solution to this problem, you might have taken a peek
at the XSL translate function : unhappily it doesn't permit one to replace a
string but only one character. Don't worry: there is a solution.
Cut & paste this piece of XSL Code in your stylesheet beside your main template
(usually the one which handles the RESPONSE node) :
<xsl:template name="replace-string">
<xsl:param name="text"/>
<xsl:param name="from"/>
<xsl:param name="to"/>
<xsl:choose>
<xsl:when test="contains($text, $from)">
<xsl:variable name="before" select="substring-before($text, $from)"/>
<xsl:variable name="after" select="substring-after($text, $from)"/>
<xsl:variable name="prefix" select="concat($before, $to)"/>
<xsl:value-of select="$before"/>
<xsl:value-of select="$to"/>
<xsl:call-template name="replace-string">
<xsl:with-param name="text" select="$after"/>
<xsl:with-param name="from" select="$from"/>
<xsl:with-param name="to" select="$to"/>
</xsl:call-template>
</xsl:when>
<xsl:otherwise>
<xsl:value-of select="$text"/>
</xsl:otherwise>
</xsl:choose>
</xsl:template>
NB: you do NOT need to understand this piece of code : just copy it.
Afterwards when you need to replace a string by another use this code :
<xsl:call-template name="replace-string">
<xsl:with-param name="text" select="DESCRIPTIONS/DESCRIPTION/TITLE"/>
<xsl:with-param name="from" select="'Bye'"/>
<xsl:with-param name="to" select="'Hello'"/>
</xsl:call-template>
NB: if you only need to replace the & by it's url encoded equivalent, cut &
paste this pieced of code :
<xsl:call-template name="replace-string">
<xsl:with-param name="text" select="DESCRIPTIONS/DESCRIPTION/TITLE"/>
<xsl:with-param name="from" select="'&'"/>
<xsl:with-param name="to" select="'%26'"/>
</xsl:call-template> -

Are you using the "Print to PDF" dialogue to convert your jpegs to pdf?
In addition to OT's test, you might also check, if using a different "Theme" for printing will avoid the crash:
14 com.apple.AppKit 0x912a52e4 _NSDrawThemeBackground + 1429
15 com.apple.AppKit 0x9145edeb -[NSThemeFrame
You crashlog shows, that iPhoto crashes, when trying to draw the "Print" theme background. There could be a problem wit the installed themes. Can you convert any jpegs to pdf, not only the jpegs downloaded from your iPad?

XSL-TEXT: how to import subtemplates in XSL and use xdofx tags?
Hi,
I am working on a BI Publisher Report (XML Publisher 5.6.3 in EBS) to generate labels on a label printer. The output needs to be in plain text format, therefore I decided to use the XSL-TEXT template and create my own XSL translation.
In principle this works pretty fine, but there are two things that worry me a bit:
1. Does anybody know how I could import other XSL files, like sub-templates in RTF? The problem I have is that I don't know the URI or the sub-template. At the moment I store those other XSL files in the OA_MEDIA folder, but this is not really nice. In RFT you can refer to subtemplates with some xdofx commands... this brings me to my second question:
2. In RTF templates you can use the Oracle specific XML tags, including the <xdofx:%> and <xdoxslt:%> tags. Does anybody know if and how I can use them in XSL templates?
Any ideas are highly appreciated!
regards,
David.Hi Vetsrini,
1. but what is the absolute path for my subtemplates if I store them in the Template Manager? How can I refer to them?
This is what the manual says for RTFs:
>
Enter the Import Syntax in the Primary Template
Import the subtemplate to the primary template by entering the following syntax in the
primary template. The import syntax tells the XML Publisher engine where to find the
subtemplate RTF in the Template Manager. This syntax may be entered anywhere in the
template prior to the call-template syntax:
<?import:xdo://APPCODE.TEMPLATE_CODE.lang.TERR?>
where
APPCODE is the Application code you assigned to the subtemplate in the Template
Manager. For example, if you associated this template with the Receivables application,
enter "AR".
TEMPLATE_CODE is the template Code you assigned to the subtemplate in the Template
Manager. For example, AR_CommonComponents.

sounds good and easy to me. But I don't have a RTF template. I have just a plain XSLT and those XML Publisher tags do not work there. So how do I get the absolute path of my XSLT templates stored in the Template Manager?
2. I've included the namespace, no error anymore. But the syntax does not result in actions:
<xsl:value-of select="xdoxslt:substr((PRODUCT_NAME),1,2)"/>
{code}
This does not substring() my string, the full string is returned. But anyway, I don't get an error message anymore. Maybe I just used the wrong XDOXSLT function... I need to search for a list of XDOXSLT functions, but that's not very urgent for now. I think I can do the most with plain XSL and inside the DB itself.
