CONVERT ZEN VISION:M STORAGE TO NT

can i convert my zen vision:m removable to ntfs?

I am new to these forums. So bear with me. I am in the Oz outback.
In a possible answer to your problem IlRiccardo I purchased two Zen Vision M units this past week with the same problem. I returned the first unit and got my money back. I purchased a second unit from a different supplier in a another town. Same problem again The second time I did read the supplied booklets in more detail pouring over every word. I found what the symbols in the top right of the screen was suppose to mean. I did purchase units with the Creative supplied powerpack. I was able power the unit up on the external power pack.
Q. Do you have a symbol that looks like a plug with two prongs on it's
Q2. What is the version number of the installed firmware?
I had that symbol on the top right of the screen. I found through a small Product Information booklet that it was to indicate a fully charged battery and operating on external power. RUBBISH (to the charged battery) as it was a brand new unit. The firmware version installed in both ZENs was .30.xx (cannot remember the last two digits).
I checked the Creative FAQ pages at my daughter's place (in town where I purchased second unit) and found a page listing most of the same symptons as I was experiencing. The download page was talking about a version .50.xx. The link was for a downloadable version of .6.0.
Subsequently I did download the update file and installed it. Low and behold my ZEN Vision M now showed the symbol for a charging battery. The unit did charge up and is working on the battery. Firmware Version .6.0
Check with your supplier/shop where you purchased your ZEN to see if this action will void the warranty? My supplier is suggesting it has!!!!. I hope I don't have to go down the warranty path for any reason.
Hope this helps you and others.
I have post an almost similarly worded reply in another thread about "not charging" SO it is a firmware version issue in my view.

  • There's video problems with my Zen Vision:M already (M video cable related) Please help

    Some background...
System:Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
Player: Brand new Creative Zen Vision: M with no firmware updates.
My Zen Vision:M has a problem (besides the scratch and fingerprint attracting top surface): It won't play videos on a TV screen when the M Video Cable (also from Creative) is linked to it anymore. It's only been a few hours...
I had the cable already, and got the player today. I let the player charge to /4th of a battery while I was setting up all the software. I ran the software programs just to take a peek, only changing the name of my player (to my name). I used Winamp 5.3 to put a music track on the player to test it. After that, I hooked it up to the VCR in my room through the white and yellow A/V plugs in front. It worked just fine. It to the tv a little large, but I was okay with it.
Later on today, the new AC charger I ordered came in the mail (Player came through UPS, charger through USPS). I looked at my old charger (Creative Zen Touch) and realized it would work with the plug-in part of the sync unit at the bottom. I tested it for a minute and it did. I still took it out and tried the new one. This is where, I think, something happened. I had to press the sides to get the thing in, and it was hard to come out. Everything still fit just right, and nothing seemed to be wrong. I used my old charger as I added more of my music library. Now it was on to videos. I had to convert the first two test vids (they were .wmv), but they played on my player fine. I put a bigger .wmv file onto the player to see if it had to convert it, and it did. It still played on the player. When I go to hook it to the TV with the A/V cord again, there was nothing but a black screen with the occasional diagonal scan line. The sound is still there.
Besides quirks with the navigational system, the player is still great for music and video. Still, I needed no video capability, and one of the things that made the ZVM a buy for me was watching my vids on the big screen. I'd return this for a second try, but I want to know if this is a recurring issue with you guys and if there's something I can do to fix it before a return. Did I mess with a setting? Should I get new firmware? Did I do wrong using my old charger? If any of you have an answer, or need more info on my situation, please let me know.
And BTW, does anyone know of some better software for organizing files on the ZVM? I used Winamp for my Zen Touch and the music on my ZVM, but videos are another ballpark. I can't transfer a video from one folder to another folder (assuming both folders are on the ZVM). Not to mention the music I transferred using Winamp isn't even showing up in Windows Media Player. I think I need a different program altogether.

I have got a new Creative Zen Vision W and getting the same problem....when i attach to the tv then i am able to hear the audio content and the video does not show. Are we missing something ? or is it a problem with the player. Also the software provided with the Zen converts small .vob files to .wmv when ever the size is large it gives an error 'conversion?unsucessful'.Any body facing similar problems please help.

  • Zen Vision:M files disappe

    Greetings:
I recently uploaded some videos to my Zen Vision:M. They all appeared on my Zen for awhile, but the last time I went to look at them all but disappeared. I plugged my Zen into the computer and used Media Explorer to browse to the video folder. Sure enough, they were all there. I browsed to a couple other folders and came back to the Video folder(s) (there are two) and...there was only one video there. The one that I could still see on my Zen. I deleted all the videos that were missing, and reuploaded them using Windows Media Player 0. I also used Creative Video Converter to add a couple more. Once again, all but the same video appeared, and once again sometimes I could see them on the computer, and sometimes I couldn't.
Any suggestions? This makes no sense.

I think I found the problem - since there are two video folders I deleted all the videos once I was able to see them and removed one of the video folders. This has cleared up my problem. I don't know why I had two video folders in the first place.

  • Zen Vision M or Zen V P

I'm going to buy Creative mp3 player and i'm looking at these: Zen Vision M(30gb) or Zen V Plus(4gb).
So I need advice which to buy. First I was thinking about Zen V Plus (4gb). I found that it cost 229$, but when I looked at Vision's price it was only ~70$ more than V Plus and it has ~4.5x more space than V Plus...
And about removable disk storage... With which player I can easily store my files in removable disk storage?

You can set aside a certain amount of the ZVMs disk space for personal storage. But one thing to consider is are you going to use the player. i.e. casual walking around or while working out in a gym. Hard dri've based players aren't the best for use in the gym you risk damage to the player due to the ZVM being a hard disk. a Flash based like Zen V Plus is better suited for the gym

  • MAJOR Zen Vision: M 30GB PROBLE

First, when trying to recover my computer after some problems, the software no longer worked with my ZEN. I didn't want to install another Service Pack and potentially lose everything else I had, so I just started using Windows Media Player to add music. No problem. Here's where the fun began.
The other night, while playing music, my player froze while shuffling to another song. I mean, it froze in the middle of shifting from one song to another. I had never seen that before. I was concerned when I saw it, but I figured I would just restart and everything would come back up. After it "rebuilt" the library, I was surprised (to say the least) to see that my player had reverted back to the original factory settings. Playlists, videos, pictures and music were all gone according to the player. Yet, when I went to MUSIC LIBRARY, all the albums were there but the artwork was gone. When you would play a song, the screen just read "Select Music to PLAY from the Music Library" as if no music was on the player. Very odd, but it can't get any worse than that, right? Read on.
After a couple of days of this, I finally decided to see what I could do to fix it. I connected the Zen to my computer, only to not have it recognized at all, and, freeze after 2 minutes each & everytime after I reboot/restore. I've found the XNJB program for my iMac instead of changing the whole system around on my PC, and it looks like this would work beautifully with the ZEN. Therefore, what I'm looking for is a way to completely reformat the Zen without the aid of a computer. I would use the new Rescue tool, but since my PC doesn't recognize it, that doesn't help me.
I fought it for so long, but Steve Jobs & Apple have finally won me over. I installed music on a friend's 80GB iPod and pretty much fell in love. I will miss the FM radio and voice recorder on the ZEN, but its a small price to pay for FREE SUPPORT (are you listening, Creative?) and tons of official & aftermarket accessories. Once all of my options are gone, and I have no choice but to turn to Creative for help, pay for their "support", send back my Zen, etc., I will purchase an 80GB iPod for what I paid for a 30GB ZEN Vision: M. Creative, I gave you a try, and I always support the underdog, but Apple's on top for a reason.
I've already paid for Creative's help which was anything but helpful, so I'm leaving it up to everyone out there. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to try and recover this $300 paperweight on my desk, please let me know at: [email protected]
    Thanks!

PS - Should I get the 80GB iPod Classic or the iPod Touch? I know there's 0X the storage space on the classic, but the iPod touch has Wi-Fi web browsing. Let me know!

Warranty? You can sell it to someone too. Ebay might work!
I would get the 80GB classic. The touch doesn't have as much storage and I think the price is just ridiculous.
    Good luck with your search!!
(did you contact costumer support to see if they could fix your Zen?)

  • Creative Zen Vision 30Gb Stuck in Recovery Mode, Freezes when trying to deal with Firmware

My Zen Vision is stuck in Recovery Mode. The PC recognizes it but it comes up as 50mb Storage Media. When you touch Reload Firmware or Format All, it freezes and you have to pull the battery out to shut it off. I don't know what to do. Charges fine, never said anything about HARDWARE issues, just can't get it to not freeze when trying to load firmware back onto it.

I did the same thing, my unit was working perfectly.
I just read that these players have a laptop 2.5 hard dri've installed in the unit. If this is true, the next chance I get, I will take my unit apart (40 gig nomad zen xtra) and see if I can reinstall the firmware directly. It's probably what they do at the repair sho

Check it out, It may be worth a try!!!

Hi, I stopped using this MP3 for about 2 or so years because I bought a new one. I decided to start using it again and downloaded all the required software but as soon as I unplugged the MP3 from the power outlet, the player died. I can't get it to start up without plugging it into a power outlet. I think it has rechargable battery? Why didn't it recharge itself?
My second enquiry is about the capacity of the player. When my player was empty, I went into "Information" and it said Total Space: 28GB and Free Space: 2GB. Why is free space only 2GB? Shouldn't it be 28 as well?
    Thanks in advance!
The battery will only last about 3yrs regardless of use.You will need to change it. Did you scroll down to see the album, picture, track counts? Did you partition part of the dri've for removable storage. You can find instructions to open here ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Drkr...e=channel_page & ? the battery here(very easy to do) http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Creative-ZEN-Vision-M-30gb-Battery-LPCS285385_W0QQitemZ400028645679QQcmdZViewItemQQpt ZOther_MP3_Player_Accessories?hash=item40002864567 9&_trksid=p39.c0.m4&_trkparms=72%3A205|66%3A4|65%3 A2|39%3A|240%3A38|30%3A0|293%3A|294%3A200

  • Zen Vision M problem (30

My mp3 was working fine, could ocnnect no problems and put videos and music on it ect, then all of the sudden one day i turned it on and it told me i had to rebuild it, i didn't think much of it cause this had occasionally happened to me before..i let it rebuild and i went to look for a specific song and it was gone, i looked for other recent songs i had added from the same artist and cd and they were gone too, along with some other songs. everytime i turned it on from there i got a rebuilding thing, then i tried to watcha? video about a week later and in my list of videos it said thata ll my folders had 0 files in it, but when i went to system info, it said i still had like 25 gigs or so of space taken up from all the videos, but it still had the oflders and info, but no video. when i connect my mp3 player to my PC, it days it is docked and connected, it charges, but my PC will not recognice it. i tried it on my other computer too which i installed the software on when i got it and it would not connect there either. basicly i cant connect my player to add new music/videos, all my videos are what seems to be corrupt, music randomly gets deleted, and i have to "rebuild" everytime i turn on my player. i tried the recovery program today but that too would not detect my player, and people told me when you hold down the reset button you can go into a recovery mode or something and that does not work either...what should i do? is there a way to fix this? or am i screwed and i just need to go get an ipod or something?

    anyone can to help me?

  • Creative Zen Vision M 60GB no longer recognised on Vi

Im running vista home premium and have had no problems with Zen Vision M 60gb until now. When connected to my PC, the player lights up but does not begin charging as normal.
In addition, my PC will not recognise the player, only saying I can 'safely remove a USB mass storage device'.
Any ideas? - I cant get into the player as the battery ran down (hence why I was trying to charge it in the first place!)
    Thx

Do you have a wall charger for the player? If you do use that instead of the usb from the computer. Also it may take a day or to to charge if the battery is really drained. A good charger to use if you have one is the wall charger for the PlayStation Portable. Radio Shack should also have one you can use for it also.

  • Zen Vision M 30gB: How Do You Add DVD Movi

Just received this player as a gift from a friend. I think he got it at DELL. It was easy adding Music and it sounds great. I have to figure out how to use the Equilizer, Smart Sound (keeps sound levels constant) and Bass Boost...to arri've at the best sound quality. Takes some fiddiling as each changes quality. Through much trial and error i figured out how to add some video clips i had stored on my computer. They had to be converted even though they were in the acceptable AVI. format. Convertion TAKES A VERY LONG TIME to WMA but at least it worked. I then figured out how to download a "Simpsons" episode from Kazaa and convert it,? and load it to the player. Conversion of the 30 minute episode took some 2 hours. I did all this on Zen Vision Media Explorer software that came with the unit. BUT:I HAVE NO WAY OF ADDING DVD MOVIES! I tried using the Media Explorer? - Convert Video - Add: i select Dri've E: / DVD - Spiderman II ...but i get folders with lots of weird files and it doesnt work. Isnt the point of a Video player to have a drag and drop DVD movie feature?HELP.

I'm afraid we cannot allow discussion of ripping commercial DVD on the forum, for legal reasons. I'm sure you will be able to find more information by using search engines or from some other websites.

  • ZEN Vision M 30GB Video Conversion problem: black scr

My husband cannot display any video on his ZEN Vision M 30 GB. Any video converted comes over with ONLY audio, black screen (? no video display )This happened with the original firmware and software. I updated firmware and did all available software updates; no change. I had a previous ZEN Vision M 30GB, which did not have any problem with video conversion and display. Are there any known problems with specific Media Player versions, or QuickTime ?which may be a potential cause of this problem?( I have heard that this product works best with Media Player 9. )Anyone had similar problems, or have any ideas? Thanks,Ravenquille

Problem apparently solved: Last night, I downloaded and installed the free program, SUPER. My husband has not had a problem so far; been working beautifully! Ravenquille

  • Can no longer transfer .wav files to Zen Vision:M in Windows Media Player

Ok, first off let me state my goal so that if anyone knows a way for me to accomplish it without WMP that would be ideal:
I'm trying to copy lossless (wav) music files to my Zen Vision M including album art and all the information the player needs for artist, album, etc (rather than just plopped into the "all tracks" section.
Until today I was accomplishing this just fine in WMP. I would sync up my player and everything worked relati'vely well. Then today for some reason windows now wants to convert my wavs to WMA before copying to my zen. I don't know why and it's really irritating me. There must be a solution because it was working just a couple days ago on the same machine!
    Thanks for your help

Well I figured it out. Turns out if you go to Sync(little down arrow)>DEVICE_NAME>Advanced Options>Quality if you leave it on automatic it will transfer wav files, but if you change it (I did without knowing) then the highest quality you're going to get is 92 WMA.

  • Got my Zen Vision M: to work but

    Hey everyone,
I got the Zen Vision:M 30gb last Friday and after some trial-and-error I finally got the mp3 player to work. I have some questions and I'm hoping you guys can answer them.
When I first plugged in my mp3 player to my PC it wouldn't turn on (I didn't realize I had to wait a while to let it charge for a bit). Out of confusion, I hit the "reset" button a few times (which by the way didn't do anything, haha). Will this affect the performance of my Zen over time at all?
I also plugged and unplugged my Zen player several times because I was wondering why my computer wouldn't detect it. At one point, the device's screen finally turned on, but I still couldn't get my PC to detect it... so I once again unplugged and (re)plugged the cable. My main concern here is whether doing this will have any short or long-term detrimental effect on my battery? I hear this shouldn't be a problem on lithium(?) batteries, but I thought I'd just make sure here! Also, any tips you guys recommend on how to make best use out of my battery?
Finally, here's a noob question: can I copy/paste my songs to my mp3 player directly via Windows Explorer rather than using any kind of software?
Thanks for taking the time to read this! And I deeply apologize for my computer illiteracy!

  • Please, please bring out a Zen Vision:M with integrated digital camera!

Is there some chance to contact the development division of creative and ask for a Zen Vision:M with integrated digital camera? there are mobiles out there with 0 Megapixel cameras and they don?t have a 30 GB disk space.
There would be nothing better then have this nice Vision:M mp3 player with an integrated camera..
one additional use for Vision:M besides using for listining to mp3 is to keep and carry around photos with it anyways.. so why don?t they bring it our with camera? wouldn?t need to take photos with another devise, transfer these photos to the pc/mac and then transfer them back on Vision:M.... just carrying aroung one devise would be so much better... but I guess that is also some marketing stuff... first sell this generation of Vision:M, and then wait some time and come out with the new generation of players, with finally integrated camera... or maybe just wait, until ipod brings them out first... anyways, I really don?t see a technical problem for this...
Olympus m:robe 500 put a mp3 camera on the market a couple of years ago, though it can't really compete with Vision:M on the mp3 player part.
    any comments from anyone?

I actually disagree, reason being that when you take into account the cameras that are build into the phones they are at most adequate, 2MP is the current theme (at least in UK I think). The option/settings/tweeks with the phone cameras is poor when you look at it, stand alone digital cams offer better features compared with phone digicams, then you have the power too, to dri've a good camera if you have one then you know required decent batteries, storage (ok you have a hard dri've so that is sorted) but take into consideration that you will always get better results with a digicam than phone cameras and you can see that would be a waste of time for the time being.
There is an old saying "Jack of all trades, Master of none" and this seemes to hold true to the phone cameras. Don't get me wrong it would be nice to have it only and only if you have all the features of the stand alone one with big resolution and so on, heck I have a Nokia 6230 and like it very much but my old 3.2MP Cannon (by all means not the best and not the newest?in the world) gives me far better/superior results than the the one on the phone even can. What would be cool to have is a port where you can hook them both up and use the Mp3 players HDD to store (I know you can on some Creative players) your snaps without having to buy or have attachments, just plug a mini USB and you are off. Technology as always moves forward and an astonishing reate and new gadgets?come out?and quality improves, battery life lengthens and so on, so we might even see this happen. Ttill the time where they are on par with most consumer digicams?I will be?witholding in buying one.Message Edited by RobertM on 03-0-20062:57 PM
