Converted Movies with no Sound

I just converted two short movies to try and play on my iPod but there is no sound to either one of them. I checked the sound on my computer by playing one of my songs and there is sound but just not to those two movies. Can anyone tell me what to do so that I can get sound to them?

If the videos are multiplexed MPEG files then the audio and the video are muxed onto the same track. QuickTime, and therefore any application that uses QT like iTunes, the iPod, iMovie (Mac app), etc. expect two separate tracks, one video and one audio. So when you convert these muxed files, the video is played and the audio is not heard.
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files

So you need to do a conversion on the file first. MPEG Streamclip is a popular one that comes in both Mac and Windows versions and is known to "repair" this problem.
There are other applications that can do this as well. Try searching the iLounge.com web site for more conversion help. But your root cause is the muxed MPEG files.

so i bought quicktime pro 7 last night to convert my videos and play them on the ipod but when it plays theres no sound?? is there a way to fix this and whats the number to customer service because i want my money back!

Apple always likes to complicate easy things.
Yeah, OK. I guess you've never used a Mac.
You're also incorrect about MPEG-4 being the only encoding format supported by the iPod.
The iPod supports H.264 as well.
    H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
    H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

Here's the one I love, the Altec Lansing iM 237. Don't be put off by the small size or cheap price. I have two, one for home and one for my studio/travel.

  • Converting movies with sound

I just gor Quicktime pro after buying my SLVR L7 phone from singular. I wanted to put movies in it but needed to convert them. I FINALLY found out how to convert movies for my SLVR L7 but now they don't have sound. How can I convert MPEG movies into 3gpp with sound? I don't get the choice when exporting.

I had issues with this same thing on a number of music videos I pulled off of "enhanced" CD's. Sound would be fine in QT but the iPod format file would be soundless. I ended up having to use VLC to export the video to a new file (I think I streamed it to a new file) and convert that one with QT Pro.

  • Synchrinizing slideshow movies with its sound

Ok, So I'm making my first slideshow and I've added in very short movies that i took on my camera and a separate soundtrack. Now when I preview my dvd the audio from the movie plays at the right time. I've burned my slideshow to a disk and when it plays on my dvd player the sound from the movie doesn't play during the movie. It plays about 25 slide shows early. Please Help!!

    Hi,
I had same problem many times trying a lot of different configurations (with and without videos, small / large diaporama, different music sources, ...).
The workaround I found was to create same slideshow + small videos on IMovie then export the resulting video as a whole to iDVD with best quality. This is OK if your burn a DVD to be played on a regular TV.
I am still very frustrated but nobody could help me.
I think we are facing a bug !
I hope this will solve your problem.

  • Urgent: iMovie creating movies with random sounds throughout

When exporting my iMovie project - which I put together clips from various documentaries, muted them, and put my voice over in mp3 files... random sounds appear at various points - these are the sounds from one video that I've muted.
The sounds do not even appear during the playing of this video - but others way before it.
None of this shows up in the preview, and I've tried saving it as both as the highest definition - 1080p, as well as the 'tiny' movie (but even this takes 10 minutes to compile).
The stange sounds appear at exactly the same place in both versions... I even changed a few things before the second 'tiny' export, but it was still the same.
The original movie files were high quality, of various formats - mp4, avi, .mov, etc.
The particular file that the audio is coming from is an mp4 file (1920x1080 originally)- it has been muted in the video, and in the Events browser.
I downloaded this video from YouTube, via www.keepvid.com - it's called: Coral reefs and climate change- A message for Copenhagen, and can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SdDiHbG1tY&hd=1
I have restarted my computer, iMovie, everything...
...this video is due ASAP, and I'm not sure how to solve this irritating issue.
I hope to hear from you!!

There have been numerous posts about audio issues. In almost all cases, the user has used speeds other than the presets. Changing to the presets fixed the problem. It's possibly a bug in iMovie, or a less than stellar design with the slider - maybe a pop-up box would have been better.
If you don't want to mess with your project, then duplicate it (File>Duplicate Project). Then make the changes in the duplicate.

  • Quick time movie with only sound

I got some HD footage that was given to me. This footage has been exported from Liquid run on a Intel based Mac using Windows.
When I try to play it I get that I am missing some components or something. When importing the footage into FCE i get the sound, but the picture shows only white. Obviously I need some kind of codec, but I am unsure which one. Can anybody help??

You need to have Final Cut Pro installed to work with that format. It's not available with FCE or with the QuickTime system codecs.

The Official Specification Sheet says, otherwise. But the 808 is definitely capable of 5.1 sound output. Dolby Surround enhancement is what have been bundled with the phone.
DTS may work, but there are several containers or codecs of it out there.

  • Loaded movie with sound problem

I have some movies with attached sound. The movie uses the
sound position property and preset cue times to drive action in the
movie. They play fine on their own but when they are loaded into
another movie using either loadMovie or loadMovieNum, the sound
does not play and the cue driven action don't work. I made sure to
set the _lockroot property to true in the loading clip with
loadMovie and also put it in the original movie and tried using
    loadMovieNum.
    What happened to the sound?

  • My DVD Movies with AC3 (Dolby Digital) to H.264

    Hello,
i want to use QT to convert my movies from DVD to a H.264-file with
    ac3 sound.
The Apple-FAQ says, that i need QT Pro and the DVD2Playback module,
but AC3 sound has no support (for playback too).
Ok, VLC show me H.264 movies with AC3 Sound coded with Nero Digital,
a Windows software. So for me it is possible to put AC3 sound into a mp4 container.
    So i have some questions:
    1. What kind of Mac program can i use, to merge (mux) a H.264 mp4 file and a AC3 sound file ?
    2. How works the DVD2Playback module, read it automatically all matched
vob files after selecting the first one ? Because the DVD main movie is splitted in three or four vob files.
    3. If not (see point 2), what kind of Mac software can i use to merge h.264 files to one ?
    Thank you and
    regards
    F.

This freeware program will export both the video and ac3 sound to other formats, like DV Stream and others. It also will allow you to edit out portions without require you to re-encode mpegs. It works with mpeg-1 by itself and with mpeg-2 if you have the Apple mpeg2playback component.

  • BPM Workspace can't display the flash movie with IE

    Hi
We have the following problem, we have a BPM project with a flash screen, when we execute the project in the workspace of BPM studio we can see the Flash, but when we published the project in BPM Enterprise , the workspace can't display the flash movie, it just display the panel without buttons and fields. This happen just in Internet Explorer, in other browsers we can see the flash.
    Any idea or solution ??
    Thanks in advance

Actually, I got it working now...
It seems that I have to have all the files in the same folder
as the page it displays on!
Historically I would dump a standard flash clip (not a
converted movie with buttons) into the /images folder.
I tested this intitally in a /video folder (just to keep all
the files in one place) which would display the clip but not the
buttons but as soon as I moved the files in the same directory as
the page itself (which is the main index.html) it worked fine!
So if anyone does read this is there a reason for that as I
would like to keep everything in separate folders!
    Cheers, J

  • Will iDVD burn a dvd with surround sound?

I have a quicktime movie with surround sound I'd like to burn to a DVD. Will iDVD burn this and keep the surround intact?
If not, will the latest Toast do this?
If not, are there any other OSX apps that will burn a dvd with surround, preferably a cheap one? I know DVDSP will do it, but that's overkill for burning one disc.

Hey don't get me wrong, dolby digital surround is way
better than ProLogic, but give the dudes credit that
came up with ProLogic in the pre-dolby digital days
some credit, it is "true" surround.
Sure, it is surround, but it's not the same as having four separate channels. There are limitations to what you can encode, and you can end up with unintended issues on both stereo and surround material. It was a cool invention that was a big improvement on stereo, but it just isn't the same as actually having the channels. It just isn't "four true distinct signals" - it simply can't reproduce everything four true distinct signals can.
I should have said I need actual discrete channels.

  • QT7Pro - Movies convert with no sound when converting to iPod

I bought QT7Pro last night, wanting to convert movies (.avi and .mpg) I have on my computer. They play and have sound in QT just fine, but when I go to convert them to MPEG-4 or convert for iPod, the options claim to have no audio track and it winds up being a silent video. How can I convert my movies without losing the sound on them?

QuickTime Pro doesn't (can't) export audio from muxed files (MPEG 1 or 2 and Flash).
Use other software to export those formats to the iPod settings. A quick search through the iPod discussions pages (now over one million views) will give you some software ideas.

  • Working with converted .mov files in Premiere Elements 2

I recently got a digital camera that records .mov clips with H.264 technology. I use it for back up when Im having problems with my regular camcorder. Of course I can work with these .mov files in QuickTime Pro with no problem. But in order to work with them in Premiere Elements 2, it appears I have to export it into the .avi format first. After exporting in QuickTime Pro, when I bring the new .avi file up into Premiere Elements, the color quality is retained, but much of the resolution is lost. Its very pixelated. I understand that .avi and .mov work differently in the way information is stored avi in chunks and mov in streams, but Im wondering if there is a way I can work around this. The reason why I got QuickTime Pro initially was to be able to convert my finished .avi videos made in Premiere Elements 2 into MPEG-4 files using the H.264 codec for better quality. And Im doing that all the time now with no problem. So I am wondering if when I reconvert the .mov clip thats been converted into .avi back into mpeg-4, will the resolution be restored? That is part of my question. The other part is regarding the initial conversion process. Are there settings in QuickTime Pro for converting .mov to .avi with as little loss in resolution as possible? The manual doesnt address this issue specifically. Any ideas or suggestions? OS is Windows XP Media Center edition, computer Sony Vaio dual processor. Thanks, Judy

Hi again Steve. I'm so embarrassed. After my initial reply to your message I went to the Adobe site to see if they even made Premiere for Mac and learned they don't. I also read a review in Wired that says Premiere 6 is just as good if not better than iMovie which they say has actually been downgraded. I'm using Premiere 2, so I thought I might consider upgrading. Then I watched "Steve's Story" and realized it was you. (Your daughter is a cutie! Adobe must love you.) So my question is this: Would my problem be solved by simply upgrading to Premiere 4? If I do that, would it be compatible with regard to catalog integration with Photoshop Elements 4 or would I have to upgrade to Elements 6? If I upgraded the whole package would my current Photoshop Elements 4 catalog transfer with all tags intact? This is vital for me to know because I rely on them heavily. I realize that I would be skipping a version in the upgrade. Is that possible? Does that matter? Please read my reply to Bill because it explains why I want to use those particular .mov files. Another question for you. I use your excellent book a lot. If I upgrade will it become useless? Finally, since you're the expert, let me tell you what I'm really aiming for and get your advice. I need to start composing my own musical soundtracks to my videos. I want to do it as I'm viewing the timeline. Therefore, I know I need to invest in a midi-capable keyboard or controller and software. The problem is that there are few controllers compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition. I am told I would need to disable the XP Media Center registry keys for anything to work which wouldn't matter because I don't use Media Center features anyway (like TV hookup, media player, etc.). But messing with the registry sounds a little complex and dangerous to me. There's got to be an easier way. Do you have any advice or recommendations? Can you point me to any helpful resources? Now you see why I want a Mac? Everyone says all this kind of stuff would be so much easier with a Mac. Problem is I have a limited budget and would like to make the most with what I have. I hope I haven't overtaxed you with my questions. Thanks for your patience! Judy
