Converted PDFs in InDesign are too BIG!

I am a recently employed designer for a magazine and have been at the company for 4 months. At the end of creating an issue, I convert it to a PDF using the settings sent by the printers. Typically the end file size is around 300mb (before I joined, the previous designer had a typical file size of 1gb), but this issue was just over 1gb! I have done nothing different to how I have converted the mag before. At the end of converting the mag to PDF, I extract the PDFs as single files. I compared the file size for the 'editors page' (which doesn't really change, same content, different text), last month the file was 1.4mb, this months was 9.8mb! I have no idea why the overall PDF (and individual PDFs) is so much bigger than the previous month(s).... PLEASE HELP!

How would I audit space in Acrobat and what would it do?
Assuming you're using Acrobat X Pro, it is hidden in the FIle > Save As > Optimized PDF... dialog box, in the upper-right corner, "Audit space usage...".
It will tell you what objects in the PDF are using the space, by type of object. This should especially be useful if you have two PDFs to compare, as it sounds like you do.

I'd love to help, but need a little more information to go on. Are you converting from or to PDF, and where is this error occurring (in Acrobat, InDesign, or somewhere else)? What operating system/browser are you using?

I see how to change the size after the document is open by going to File/properties/initial view and saving this setting. I want all documents to open at 100% when they are first opened. Can I set this as a default view?

Hey Kris,
You might go to Edit> Preferences> Zoom
Do this without opening any particular PDF so that it applies to the program itself and not just one document.
Try this and then let me know.

Photos Are Too Big

Good morning.
I've just started exploring the possibility of making a photo album in iPhoto. When I place a photo on a full page, the photos are too big for the 'frame'- that is, the frame crops part of my photos off. I have tried using the resizing tool but find that the photos are already resized to their smallest.
Is there another way to deal with this problem?

iPhoto puts up that warning when the resolution of the image falls below 180 dpi. A lot would depend on how far it falls below. They will not appear as good as they do on screen but that goes for all of the photos. The monitor display usually has more contrast and snap than the printed version. But that's not to mean the printed version doesn't or won't look good.
You can approximate the dpi of the photo for the frame that's giving the warning. The pages are 8.5 x 11. Estimate the size of the frame and divide the frame's dimension into the pictures corresponding pixel dimension.
What are the pixel dimensions of a typical photo that's giving you the warning sign and what page layout/frame are the in?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

I need to downsize phots to publish on a website but they are too big . In help it says when I select a photo it gives me the option to downsize. It does NOT. ?

This is the iPhoto for iOS forum. Are you asking about iPhoto on your Mac?
In iPhoto on your Mac select Export and you will have the option to select a size for your photo.
In iPhoto for iOS this capability is not there. I use PhotoForege2 on my iPad to resize my photos to meet the requirements you describe.

Do you have Large Text turned on? See Settings > General > Accessibility > Large Text.

Pages and icons (in the tabs and navigation bars) are too big due to 22 upgrade

Due to FF22 upgrade (from 21), all my icons (from webpages, addons and regular buttons) and tabs have got bigger and that's really ugly because of the low resolution of the images. Also considering I have a rather big number of tabs I can just see a smaller number of them and it's annoying.
The zoom of the page is now bigger (given that I has already zoom in in version 21, now the pages are too big and I have to zoom out a page that was correctly zoomed in 21)
Surprisingly the menu bar is intact !
Is that a new graphic convention ? Is there an update of something like GTK+ in this new version that could be responsible of this bug ? And mainly is there anyway to fix it ?
My screen resolution is 1920*1080. And for example with chromium or FF21 the menu have the perfect size.

All these confusing explanations on how to fix something that never should have been changed. It just pisses me off that I now have to get used to inferior graphics because someone thought it would be cool to screw with settings people have obviously been using for who knows how long. I have tried simply zooming down and that doesn't work. I am not going to enter a bunch of techie gobbledeegook and screw up my whole internet experience. I am just PISSED!!!!

30 minutes later: Okay, I went to about:config and a window came up .. pretty much telling me my computer would blow sky high and take me with it. I'm just an old lady who WAS passing my time browsing and playing a few games. Oops, I'm getting mad again. PS I NEVER talk like this, but this has ruined my whole fricken day.
15 minutes later: I decided to give up. I went to play some monopoly at my favorite game site and the pop up window with the game board was unplayable. The board was way down the window and not complete. So, I went back and despite all the warnings went back to Version 21. I have used Firefox for years and have sworn by it and defended it and given it my best reviews. up until now. I absolutely don't want to quit FF, but I don't know all the tech stuff, I guess is required to change formats back to what you are used to. I still can't believe FF would make a drastic change across the board without warning or giving a choice. If I didn't know how to downgrade, I wouldn't be able to use my PC to help me get through each day. Why why why?

IPhone Earbuds are too big and uncomfortable

I love my iPhone but the earbuds are too big to fit comfortably in my ears. When I work out or do any movement at all the buds fallout which defeats the purpose of listening to music on my iPhone. Does anyone know of any earbuds or headsets that I can buy that work better with the iPhone? I've googled the web and lots of people are having this same problem, but I have yet to find a solution.

Following are performed.
Staging area different from SOurce is checked.
IKM used is : IKM SQL to File Append
Truncate is True
No LKM is used.
I am getting following error:

I am trying to a file to file mapping and all of my columns match in size. Does anyone have any ideas what this problem could be? I am getting an error when it tries to perform an integration step while trying to create the target table. I am assuming it is something wrong with one of my datastores

My computer words are too big

I hope I describle this correctly. I turned on my MACBOOK Pro this morning and everything looks huge on it. Nothing fits anymore. The web pages are too big, the lettering is huge, and everything just looks plan fat. Does this make sense? What would have happened? I didn't change any fonts or hit any buttons that I know of. I have tried turning the whole computer off to see if that helps, nothing.
Does any know how to fix this or know what I am talking about?

Try opening up System Preferences, click the Displays icon and select a screen resolution that puts your monitor back to normal.

Which operating system are you running? Not sure, click the apple on the left of the menu bar, the click about this mac. It will say version 10.6.x or 10.7.x.

Look at your settings iPhoto>Preferences>Accounts
and make changes here or add your email account if not in the list
One thing to look at for sure is the SMTP sever name, I think by default it fills it in as smtp.me.com or some such, which may not be your email outgoing server.

Fonts are too big under Linux

under my Linux X11 installation (gdm,xfce4) the fonts of the Oracle Calendar are too big. Is there a way to set up the font size of the calendar application manually?

EDIT:
I just tried AGAIN and it worked... Dont understand why but its fine now. For everyone wondering:
- disable custom dpi
- close appearance
- enable again
- restart
is what worked for me.
