Converted song sounds slower than original

I have a song in WAV format, and when I try to convert it using the feature in itunes to do so, the song sounds slower and the original and is listed as being more than 2 minutes longer than the original. I've never tried using the convert to MP3 function before, so I'm not sure where the problem might be.
What can I do to make it sound the same when I convert it to a different format?
  Mac OS X (10.3.9)

That might be a problem, since 96 kHz is a very high sample rate--great for recording, but not usually used for final export. Maybe iTunes doesn't recognize it.
I looked in the custom mp3 conversion options in iTunes. The highest bit rate listed is 48 kHz. So it may be that if you had iTunes set to for "auto" sample rate (the default setting, which is supposed to use the same sample rate as the original file), it couldn't actually make a 96 kHz mp3, and made a 48 kHz file but didn't cut out any samples.
Can you re-export the file from your recording software at either 44.1 or 48 kHz? If not, you could try using either QuickTime player or, better, an audio editing application (like Peak) to downsample your WAV.

Le déroulement du projet est plus lent, ce qui donne des images saccadées comme-ci il y avait un effet ralenti. Cependant le son demeure exact avec l'original sans décalage.
The project show pictures more slower than the original, but the sound is okay.

  • Why is my video sounds slower than the video playing

Why when I record a video the sound starts way after the video has been started

Macs normally slow down a bit over time. Uninstall any unneccary apps and try keep the ammount of hard drive space free more than 50%. To find out how much hard drive space you have left click the apple logo in the menu bar and click "About This Mac" Then click on "More Info" and after that click on "Storage".
Also, try to see if there is anything wrong with your hard drive. To do so click on the liitle rocet icon (launchpad) in the dock and click on "Utilities". Then click on the "Disk Utility" app. Then select "Macintosh HD" in the left menu/ Then click "Repair Disk Permissions". Wait for it to finish. Then click "Verify Disk". Wait for it to finish.
After that, if Disk Utility says you have any hard drive errors, click "Repair Disk".
Lastly, try a good old restart!. This always speeds up a Mac.

  • 2010 13in macbook pro wifi slower than original core duo 15in mbp.

hmmm...ive been noticing that on my new comp 2010 13in mbp that that wifi isnt as strong as my original 15in mbp.
when i alt-click the wifi, its substantally less and also the range drops off faster. i have a 2.4/5ghz dlink extreme that used to give me constant steady 300mbs connection. Now it seems as if i avg 150-250 with a RSSi of -57 sitting 10ft from the router.
Was wondering if this is due to the latest airport update.

    Hi,
Maybe you should take a look at your Firefox add-ons and get rid of the ones you don't really need. Also, you have two torrent items mentioned in your report. Downloading torrents runs the risk of bringing in malware.
Another thing to do as maintenance is to start into Recovery -- holding down Command and R keys together while booting up -- and using Disk Utility (bottom of the box that appears) to Verify your disk and Repair disk permissions.
    Regards.

This is good for me but what happened?
I don't understand the question...  Did something happen that you think should not have happened?
It took such a long time to sync, because iTunes was converting songs with bit-rate higher than 128 kbps "on the fly" while syncing.  That takes much longer than just syncing the songs.
Also, since you have so much space on your iPod (compared to the size of your music library), you should not use that "convert to 128 kbps AAC" setting.  For songs that are encoded higher than 128 kbps, the conversion reduces sound quality.  You may want to uncheck Sync Music and Apply, to remove the songs on the iPod currently, and then sync it all again without the "convert" setting checked this time.

  • Song on youtube sounds better than the on bought on iTunes

    Hi,
Having just migrated to iTM, I was having a listen to some songs when I noticed one song - Gigi's 'Bale Washintu' - sounded distorted on the chorus (around 3:45).
To doublecheck it wasn't my speakers or soundcard I played the youtube version and it sounded better than the one on my iTM.
To doublecheck doublecheck I bought the original song again from iTunes and STILL the youtube version sounded less distorted.
Can the Youtube version be better sounding then a 256kbps itunes download??

Keep in mind, if you bought this from Apple or an Apple Store, you only have 14 days from initial purchase to return it for a full refund (in the USA at least).
If it is past that 14 day window, you will have to sell it privately and then buy a different machine.
If you bought from an Apple authorized reseller, then be sure to check what their return period and polciy is.

  • Sounds out the original video start playing when I have muted them

In my video I set the volume of the original video to 0% and added a song for the entire edited video. When I play the video on big screen, on certain parts, it still plays the sounds of the original videos until I pause it and continue it. Even if I export the video the original sounds play through.Disturbing  What can I do to get these sounds out of it entirely?

I would guess that you are using either fast motion or slow motion. There is a bug in iMovie 09 which makes random audio artifacts when you set the speed slider to anything other than 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800% (i.e. the Presets with the tick marks).
If you choose another speed, like 139% or 58%, you will get tha audio problems.
Change your speed to one of the tick marks and that should solve the problem.

  • How can I turn off the sound from the original midi  or audio tracks when I turned on the duplicate tracks for editing ?

How can I turn off the sound from the original midi or audio tracks when I edit or listen to the duplicate tracks in Logic Pro 9 ?
I'm using iMac desktop with Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. Pls advise.

    Dan,
It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
    Hope that helps

  • PS CS3 much slower than CS2 on Intel Mac. I don't get it.

    Yes, very very strange.
I work with very large files, so I just got a spiffy new Mac Pro. It's my first Intel machine, so I expected that CS2 would drag a little bit, due to Rosetta. In fact, moving from one processor to eight of them seems to have much more than compensated. Nevertheless, I ordered CS4 and while I wait I downloaded the demo of CS3.
I expected that CS3 would fly (no Rosetta) but have found my test tasks taking an inordinate amount of time... much slower than CS2 on the same Xeon workstation, and slower than CS2 on my old iMac (single 2.1GHz G5)
Since I work with extremely large files, I got a hardware RAID5 made up of four 15,000RPM SAS drives. I can't get enough RAM to avoid using scratch disk, so I attacked the biggest performance bottleneck. I did get 8GB of RAM; would have gotten more, but I read that it won't matter until CS goes 64-bit in CS5 at the earliest.
The rest of it: dual quad-core 2.8GHz "Woodcrest" Xeon processors, NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT graphics card, OS X 10.5.5, all updates (Apple and Adobe) applied as of 6pm Wednesday October 8th.
I'm running two tests as my benchmark: open a file (PSD created with CS2, 75" x 75" at 400ppi, two layers, RGB with one additional channel) and resize to 75" x 75" at 800ppi. Once that is done, I rotate the new, massive file counterclockwise 18.5 degrees.
On my old setup, 2.1GHz SP G5 iMac with CS2, these tasks took 38m 30s and 1h 33m 22s respectively.
    New machine with CS2: 10m 09s and 29m 14s respectively
    New machine with CS3: 42m 38s and 1h 36m 24s
(above tests run repeatedly: these numbers are the fastest numbers for each configuration)
I have nothing else running for these tests, except for Activity Monitor. What I've observed with Activity Monitor: the old G5 was pegged at (or very near) 100% CPU the whole time. Mac Pro with CS2, Photoshop ran most of the time on one CPU at a time, but spiked up as high as 250% CPU usage just for Photoshop.
I haven't seen Photoshop CS3 use more than 80% of one processor the whole time on the Mac Pro. Mostly it sits around 35%.
One more informal test: if I open that same file and downsample from 400ppi to 200ppi, CS2 does it in 1m 40s. CS3: 6m 57s. I don't have the iMac any more so I can't tell you how long it would take there.
In both CS2 and CS3 the scratch disk is my startup volume, but it's a RAID. I can't add any more drives except for external drives. I could have configured it to one dedicated system drive and a second scratch volume made up of the remaining three drives, but I consulted with people who know RAID better than I do who agreed that since everything is going through the SCSI controller and everything gets written to multiple drives in order to make it faster that I'd get a performance hit by splitting the RAID into two volumes, even if multiple processes are trying to get at the same drive array. Even adding a Firewire 800 drive for scratch would be slower than using the RAID. Or so I've been told.
So, this seems absurd. CS3 is not using Rosetta, right? So it should be flying on my machine. What on earth could I have done to a fresh CS3 (demo) install to make it slower than CS2 on my old G5? Is the CS3 demo crippled? Is there a conflict having CS2 and the CS3 demo on the same machine?
    I'm stumped.

    >Ya see, this is the attitude you really, really should get over. The Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1) code is just fine... it's your system (hardware/software) which, for some reason is not providing an optimal environment.
Jeff, I agree completely. You seem to be assuming that I actually think Adobe wrote bad code. In fact, I believe Adobe did NOT write bad code (and I wrote that) but that the condition that you are suggesting (CS3 being slowed by having having scratch and system on the same volume to a far greater extent than CS2) could only be caused by bad code by Adobe. Since I believe that, as you say, a universal difference of this magnitude between CS2 and CS3 would be noticed by huge numbers of users, I doubt that what I am seeing is the result of having scratch and system on the same volume.
In case I'm being less than clear:
Scratch and system were on the same volume for CS2.
Scratch and system were on the same volume for CS3.
On my system CS2 performs tasks three to four times faster than CS3.
ergo, either there is some problem other than scratch and system being on the same volume (perhaps something that exacerbates the scratch/system/same volume issue, OK, I accept that possibility) or else the change has been between CS2s and CS3s handling of scratch disks.
If for the sake of argument we rule out the possibility that CS3 handles the condition of scratch and system being on the same volume worse than CS2 does, the only possibility left is that there is SOMETHING ELSE WRONG WITH MY SYSTEM.
I am trying to find out what that other thing is. You're the one insisting that scratch and system being on the same volume is the cause of the CS3 slowdown. Accusing me of not believing that there's something wrong with my system misses the mark entirely. I ABSOLUTELY believe there is something wrong with my system.
    > Your RAM tests sound pretty thorough, but if I had your large-files workflow I would buy two (or preferably 4) 4-GB sized matched RAM DIMMs, remove all the existing RAM, and install only the new RAM to further test whether or not the old RAM is anomalous.
    Thanks Allen,
Actually, this is exactly what I've done, though in a different order. My system shipped with two 1GB chips. I bought two 4GB chips from OWC and installed them, and found my CS2 performance to increase significantly. It was only then that I tried installing the CS3 demo. When I found CS3 running my tests more slowly than expected, I pulled the new RAM out and tried with just the original 2GB and tested both CS2 and CS3 again. Then I took the original 2GB out, put only the new RAM in and tested CS2 and CS3 again, finding the same results. Currently I have all 10GB in the system and for the moment I'm setting aside the possibility of a problem with the RAM (or at least setting aside the possibility that the RAM chips are just plain bad) because that would indicate that both the new and the old RAM are both bad in the same way. That seems unlikely.
So I guess I'll have to drag the system down to the Genius Bar if I don't see an improvement from rearranging my hard drives.
The update there is that last night I backed up my system, and this morning I deleted my RAID5 set, blowing away everything on my system until I can restore from backup. The new configuration is 1 JBOD drive plus three drives attached as RAID0.
Unfortunately, neither of the new volumes is visible when I go to restore from backup. For the moment, this little experiment has cost me my entire system. The upshot is that it may be some more time before I have any more information to share. Even when I do get it working again, I can expect restoring to take the same 12 hours that backing up did.
I will certainly post here when I've got my system back.

  • Home Hub 3 is slower than dial up.

I used to be on a voyager 220v router but started having connection problems. After speaking to customer support, and after they ran some tests on the line/router, they told me that the fault was with the 220v and as it was obsolete, i would need to change to a HH3.
After receiving the HH3, im now finding that the d/l speed for webpages is slower than it was on dial-up. Ive tried running speedtester but it fails to complete and just gives an error that it cant be completed at this time and to try later. is their anything amongst the above which explains why its running so slowly?

    Bah, this is a PITA.
Got up around 7am and the HH3 was displaying connection time of 10 hours, great, lets leave it for 24 and see what happens. Tried browsing and pages were incredibly slow to load, thats when they did actually load. I said stuff it and took the dog for a walk and left everything as is. Got back and checked again at 9.15 to find a connection time of 14 mins, so obvioulsy something has reset itself.
Tried speedtester and quite simply, the page would not load in order for me to test it.
Tried clean line check, sounds perfect, no noise whatsoever on it.
Tried connecting to the test socket and now get the following results:-

  • Why is the download/upload speed so slow on my MBA (about 5 times slower than my PC)?

Why is the download/upload speed so slow on my MBA (about 5 times slower than my PC)?

Are you on band 13 or band 4?  13 is the original LTE band and remains relatively congested. Band 4 is the XLTE band and is less congested and has higher overall potential bandwidth (15 MHz vs 10 MHz). Even so, 7 Mbps is more than enough for doing stuff on your phone and is not considered slow.
    To check band,
    dial *3001#12345#*
    select serving cell info
frequency band will say 13 or 4
FInd an area with band 4 and retest.

  • In CS6, JavaScript Running MUCH Slower than ActionScript

    Hi All,
I am finding that in CS6, JS code runs MUCH slower than ActionScript code. I don't want to double-post here - Full details may be found where I posted them in the InDesign Scripting forum at  - CS6 JavaScript Running Much Slower than ActionScript, before I realized that this forum might be more appropriate.
The basic gist of it is that I had a Flex/ActionScript Extension, which I obviously needed to start converting to JavaScript in advance of the next version not supporting ActionScript. I converted 20,000 lines of my business logic code from ActionScript to JavaScript (grrr...) - only to find that it now runs 5 times slower than it did in ActionScript.
What has been the experience of others who have converted large Extensions from ActionScript to JavaScript?
I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions.
    TIA,
    mlavie

Yes, the old album art view is gone, bu you can see the album art for a song that's playing by clicking on the art image and it will open a bigger view.
Everything else in your post is a waste. I'm not going to spend time reading it. If - and I repeat if, you have a question on how to get the best out of the new look iTunes, post it. But don't spend your time in long rambling negative rants.

  • Adding Covers and song info slow down

I just my new 120gb Ipod for christmas and I started to load album covers to it. It started out fine, the album cover would load/save in no time, but now it takes forever to save a cover to a song, any help on why?

    Hi JGG,
Thank you for your reply. I forgot to mention that I house my iTunes library on an external drive. I understand that, of course, anything hosted off of my computer would be slower than if it was on my laptop, but this still seems much slower than it was on my older computers (where I also used an external to host the music). Also, I mentioned earlier that if I added music to iTunes that was in a random folder on the external, it would show up instantly on the playlist; but if I added music that was within my iTunes library-folder on the external, it would upload very slowly. Even after it's on the iTunes playlist and "organized" within the Library-folder with the correct titles/folder names, just editing a song (for example, to change the year) would take a long time as well.
Edit: And, I just realized, there is a big delay when I try to click on a song to play. The little spinning color wheel pops up for a few seconds every single time I click to play a new song out of my playlist. I'm sure that NEVER happened in the past on my old macbook when I also used an external drive.
    Thanks for your help!
