Converter Box

I have a Lenovo S10-3t abd I have been trying to conncet to my tv for a while now. To do this I brought a converter box and followed the instructions given here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBI8mkKBG68&feature=related but my reslts weren't nearly the same. The first time after everything had been connected my tv showed the rainbow bars like seen in the video. So I pressed Fn and the key on my laptop with the picture of a compter on it which on my laptop is F3. Four options then appeared on my screen reading: Notebook, External Display, External Display and Notebook Clone Mode, and External Display and Notebook Extended Mode. I chose External Display and Notebook Clone Mode anfd my computer blanked out for a moment and then appeared the same. The tv was the same as it was alson with the rainbow bars. So then I chose External Display and my laptop went black again but after many moments it still remained black. So I held the power button on my laptop until it shut down. When I started it again I cold finally see the screen. Then I tried to converter box connection agian and my laptop went black again and the next time I tried and the next and so on. So I would very much like to receive some help on this matter. Please?

Hi
Welcome To Lenovo Community
May be this is caused by the resolution being sent from the computer being too large. Go into your display settings and change the outputting resolution to 1024 * 768. Or 800 * 600
Hope This Helps
Cheers!!!

  • VCR/DVD combo (maybe without a tuner) to use with a converter box?

The VCR that I've been using is starting to chew up tapes so I'm looking for a replacement.   I've had my eye on a Magnavox ZV426MG9 VCR/DVD tunerless combo since the manual I looked up online indicated that it could be connected to a converter box.  However, some negative customer reviews of that unit and the Magnavox unit WITH a tuner, ZV457MG9, make me wary of getting that one.  Also, my stepfather has said that he's had problems with previous Magnavox recording devices he's owned.  So does anyone have any recommendations for a VCR/DVD combo unit, with or without a tuner, that can be connected to a converter box that they could recommend?  Since I have a converter box, I figure I may not necessarily need a tuner but it has to be able to be connected to a converter box, not just a cable or satelite box.  I'm thinking of copying movies that I've recorded on VHS to DVD to increase my supply of usable tapes.  I record cartoons that I watch every day.  Also, since I don't have a lot of money to spend, I'm considering factory refurbished or used items.  On ebay my spending limit is up to $100.  Each time I think I think I can afford to order what I need, something else comes up that needs to be paid off and I keep having to put it off.   And I don't suppose I can put a Geek Squad service plan on something I buy somewhere else.  If I can, let me know how that can be done.

Thanks. Changing the channel isn't really an issue for me since I usually only record one channel a day and that's cartoons in the morning.  If I need to record anything else in the evening, I've usually at home to reset the VCR and set the channel on the converter box.  I figured out how to record from a converter box on a VCR and wrote a post about it on Best Buy's digital tv transition board before they took that board down.  And I have done some research on tunerless VCR/DVD combos from looking up the manuals online and contacting the manufacturers directly and found that not all tunerless units can be set up to converter boxes. Some can only be connected to satelite or cable boxes, or at least the manuals only include instructions for connections to cable and satelite boxes and nothing else or the manufacturers claim that connections are only possible to such devices.  As for Panasonic, my stepfather bought a Panasonic unit and had terrible luck with it and so I am staying away from that.

  • Imac won't recognize Pyro A/V converter box

I can't seem to get my G-4 imac to recognize my Pyro A/V convertor box to use for importing analog video. I've tried resetting power, unplugging cables, etc. I'm pretty new to mac, so could someone help me with this?

I have same problem on G5 Dual. Used to work with Panther. Have your found any solution yet?
I have a Sony 8mm 72X camcorder ( with standard RCA output cables to an ADS Pyro A/V Link API -550 rev B converter box. I connect with firewire 400 to front of Mac G5 Dual with Tiger OS 10.4.7.
I also upgraded to iLife 6 recently
It used to work with Panther and iLife 4.
Now I cannot get iMovie HD to see the camcorder. Tried all the tips of restarting, unhooking etc. Neither does Final Express 5 or Premier 6 (Classic).
Looked at ADS help pages-not much help, but I downloaded and installed FireWire SDK version 19 for Mac OS X! No change.
    Any suggestions?

  • Analog to Digital Converter boxes

Does anyone think Apple will ever fix iMovie to restore usage of many analog to digital converter boxes that were broken by iMovie 5?
I have a SONY DVMC-DA1 firewire unit and wish I could use it again in iMovie. Does anyone know what the exact component is that they left out or changed that would cause this problem? I'm just trying to understand.

The ADVC-55 is capture only. It includes composite & s-video inputs and stereo audio inputs. Firewire output.
The ADVC-110 is bidirectional (meaning you can both capture and output through it - this is a very good way to monitor your video during production as you can see the actual quality on a monitor/TV rather than just your computer screen, which has limited capability to show you the actual video quality.) It includes composite & s-video inputs and outputs; stereo audio inputs & outputs; Firewire input & output.
The ADVC-300 is also bidirectional and includes composite, s-video and component video i/o (D1 connector) inputs & outputs; stereo audio inputs & outputs; Firewire input & output; and software that enables you to tweak its video settings. Helpful in cleaning up particularly bad analog videos.
I've used these things for years and they all work great. I do not believe there is any difference in the internal conversion hardware ... The primary differences are support for one-way vs. bidirectional conversion; input/output connectors; and the software that comes with the ADVC-300.
If you have basically clean analog video, any of these units will be fine. You can use any analog source (VHS deck, camcorder, DVD player, etc.) and would typically use iMovie or Final Cut Express to capture your video on a Mac.

I wanted to let you know that I made a practice dvd today, sampling edited clips from four different sources of imported vhs video--some of it 16mm dubbed to video around 20 years ago--into iMovie. I worked in the update of 6 to see if the application had stabilized at all. I've been working only in 5.0.2 recently.
I was pleasantly shocked at how much better the video quality was than on the computer--as you foretold. I really couldn't tell a visual difference from the source videos. What a relief! But do you work with that disparity, the difference between computer and TV, without a live TV monitor as you go? It's hard to make decisions on the basis of how it looks on the computer.
Other encouraging news: the garble around the edges didn't show at all on the TV screen. In the meantime, I'd been trying the plug-in you recommended. I'm glad I won't need to it for all this video after all, but I'm curious to experiment more with it. Any other plug-ins you'd recommend?
Thanks again for your generous response.

  • Is there acharge for connections to other tv's without a converter box?

is there acharge for connections to other tv's without a converter box?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I assume you mean hooking a TV directly to the coax and use the TVs QAM tuner.
If that is what you mean, then there is no extra charge for that.

  • Exporting imovie through AVDV converter box?

I have been using either export or share to send finished videos through a converter box and into a VCR for years with no problem. When trying to export the latest project, it jumps in pieces and freezes up. It plays fine in imovie but can't export. I tried changing the preferences to play through camera and do it that way, and it still freezes. I have 1 gig of Ram. Any thoughts? This is for a high school video production class.
    Thanks
    emac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Thanks- I did read the post you noted prior to making my post. Unfortunately, nothing in that post helped me resolve my issue. My ADVC300 is recognized just fine by iMovie. Just when I go to Export or "Share", I no longer receive the message about 'the converter' box. As a result, iMovie simply times out. Any other advice?

  • Converter box not recognized

I just got a new computer with imovie 5.02 and now my Sony DVMC-DA1 converter box is not recognized. Do I need to replace it or is there a way to make this work?

I only have one firewire port to work with on my Powerbook and two empty ones to work with on the emacs. The ports are not suspect. I have hooked firewire hard disks to it and confirmed that they work by doing firewire networks between two computers as well. So I am nearly certain that the firewires are not the problem. Canon responded to me telling me to try a new firewire cable (ha ha). They also said to check out if the camera is transmitting to alternative devices (TV input jacks). If they don't work then the cameras are dead. The DV box is a Canopus OHC-55. That causes the infamous firewire error (kernel[0]: FireWire (OHCI) Apple ID 31 built-in: no valid selfIDs for more than 2 minutes after bus reset.) in the console so I know that the box could be suspect, but it still doesn't make sense why the camcorder doesn't work. I may resort to checking out some old old versions of iMovie to see if they see the camcorder. This is simply baffling. I will go to the apple store on thursday if time permits. This is really baffling.

  • Would a DSL converter box provide internet for a MacBook Pro?

    Hi,
I am new to Mac computers, and am planning on purchasing a MacBook Pro 13 inch. However, I do not have cable and am currently accessing my internet via
a DSL converter box from Windstream, a telephone company local to Erie, PA. If connected this to a MacBook Pro, would this internet connection work for
Safari? Just wondering. Also, does anyone know of the best deals for wireless internet involving a company wothout purchasing cable in case I were to switch
    in the near future? Thanks!

I don't why it shouldn't. Lots of folks have DSL. Best deals for internet service depend upon where you are located.

  • DVcam as converter box for analogue import for imovie hd 5.0.2 SUCCESS

DV camcorder as converter box for analogue import for imovie hd 5.0.2 SUCCESS
Try hooking everything up and hitting record on the camera, suddenly imovie import works and imovie does not try to play the tape in the camera, simply importing to your hearts content.
I was trying analogue through a Sony DCR-PC1000E. You can't record with the regular rec/pause switch but with the onscreen menu.
My problem was Imovie would only display a blue screen with "camera attached", imovie could see and hear the signal during import but would quit after 7 seconds and 24 frame every time.
I believe this was due to the camera not sending control track or timecode, thus imovie times out, more of a preset then a fault.

Hi conrad - great that it's working for you! It's probably worth walking people through your set-up and step-by-step process, just to clarify what you did (especially the bit after you have connected your camera to iMovie). A lot of people will be interested.

  • Trouble importing analog video thru converter box into Imovie

I have a very old Sony Video 8 Handycam and and a Pyro A/V converter box. I movie sees the Camcorder/Box but when I press the import button the screen says "Importing" and nothing else happens. I have everything hooked up the way it should be. Can you help?

I movie sees the Camcorder/Box but when I press the import button the screen says "Importing" and nothing else happens.
Your capture work flow is not clear here. Are you trying to import in the Auto or Manual mode? Since no "communication" is possible here, you must capture your content in the application's manual mode. Without communication, there is no device control and you must also manually start and stop the camcorder manually. Simply begin playback on the camcorder and when you see the video begin to play on the iMovie '08 capture screen, then press the button to begin importing your video.

  • DV Camcorder as passthrough or converter box for analog import to iMovie?

    Greetings,
I've read a lot of posts about doing analog to DV conversions, but would still appreciate some comparitive comments about what tends to work better in terms of preserving analog video quality when imported into iMovie.
I'm doing the conversion with a Pinnacle Movie Box (wish I'd read the posts from the Pinnacle skeptics before I bought it); the VHS, which looks decent played on a TV, seems to be suffering badly in the transfer. Also, there are vertical black bands at each side of the frame in iMovie and a horizontal band of skewed video at the bottom. Is that a ratio or scanning problem? Or???? Any way to correct?
Thanks for all the great posts. Couldn't do it without you all.
