Converter for AVI?

I know that there has been a million posts about AVI files but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I have a music video that I edited using Adobe premere 6 on a Windows machine at school. I exported it using Microsoft Video codec version 2. The video looked prety good so I braught it home to see if it worked in QT7 on my mac. I wasn't suprised that it didn't work in QT (it just played the audio and showed a white screen). There is nothing wrong with the file because it played perfectly in VLC player. I tryed to export the video as "Movie to Quicktime Movie", but that didn't work. Then, I tryed MPEG Streamclip which didn't work either.
I need the video to use in another project. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks
P.S. Keep in mind that I can't go back into premere. I looked in QT movie prefrences and the video track format says MP42.

Thank you for the links.
I installed the pluggin and the video plays but the video lags. About every 5 to 15 seconds it pauses and continues. So I exported it as a Quicktime Movie (h.264) which took a very long time. I played the new file and the video plays all the way through without interruptions, but the video looks like it may have dropped frames or something (it just doesn't look as smooth). Also, I can see that the horrizontal lines of video are slightly misaligned.
Should I have used another QT codec? I just want the best quality possible.
Thanks the help.

  • Video Converter for wmv, avi, etc. on Mac Platform

Does anyone know of a good converter for Mac to put wmv and avi videos (and a few other formats) onto an iPod? I've tried the Prism software that is listed in the downloads section of the Apple, but the video quality is spotty and the audio is always out of sync by 10 seconds or so.
"Drag and drop" and "Add File to Library" doesn't work for a file that isn't mp4.
I saw a recommendation for something called WinFF in another forum, but it talks about Windows and Ubuntu, not OS X or Leopard.
    Thanks.

    MPEG Streamclip - it's freeware.
Note, though, that WMV files may require the paid Flip4Mac Player Pro plug-in for QuickTime to allow export to other file types.

  • Converting uncompressed AVI files for FCP?

I recently had 30 reels of old 8mm film footage from the 50's and 60's converted to digital and I now have a hard drive with all of the footage converted to uncompressed AVI files.  These are extremley large files as one 2 minute and 38 second clip is 4.45 gigs.
I want to bring them into Final Cut Pro to edit them but retain as much quality and picture as I can.  I am going to use Mpeg Streamclip to convert the AVI files to quicktime Mov. files but what compression setting and frame size should I use when converting them to Mov. files for best results?  As far as frame size, should I use 648 X 486 4:3 aspect ratio or 720 X 486 unscaled?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Given the material, standard ProRes or even ProRes LT (if you have FCP v7) is fine.
ProRes HQ is intended for 35mm film out and/or 2k video. It is a waste of file space and processing overhead for your purposes.

  • How do I convert an .avi file when the codec is CLLC

I've been sent a file .avi to convert for a digital display. We do this often and have had no problem, however the codec is CLLC? I've never heard of it and FCP won't read it, nor will VLC or QT.
    They compressed using Edius.
I've tried all sorts of programs, the preview comes up with a blank screen and tells me its an audio file.
Does anyone know how to convert the CLLC file.
    Thanks

Tell "they" to provide the clip in an edit-friendly QuickTime codec.

  • Random selections of mp4 videos won't sync, convert for iPhone option in iTunes comes up with unknown error 2002, help please!

I've been having massive issues copying mp4 video files onto my iPhone 4 from my windows 7 (64 bit) pc.
I converted a large number of avi files into mp4 using aiseesoft movie converter and most of them work just fine.
However about a quarter of the files with no Obvious difference in size and converted the same way will not sync.
Instead a message appears saying these cannot be played on the iPhone.
Also when then trying to use the iTunes convert for iPhone function It fails for unknown error 2002.
Any help on why this is happening and how to stop it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

When the videos are in the Movie library, try using the Create IPod and iPhone Version in the Afvanced tab of iTunes.

  • Convert large AVI files to MPEG4 with PE11 to reduce size

I have a lot of large AVI files from captured VHS tapes. Computer hard disk is full. Should I convert large AVI files to MPEG4 using PE11 to reduce file size? In the future, can I import MPEG4 into PE11 for video projects? I don't want to delete the AVI file until I know I can work with MPEG4.

    uberjaeger,
My next objective will be to learn PE11 so I can edit the video.

  • Convert DV AVI to DV MOV and retain timecode

How can I convert a DV AVI created on Windows to something that Final Cut understands? I can import the AVI directly into FCP, but I lose the timecode and I need to render it. I can convert the AVI to MOV, but I lose the timecode information in the file. Any recommendations on what software can do what I need? I have tried MPEG Streamclip and QT Pro. I can record to raw .dv files if needed. It also needs to be a lossless conversion - just basically looking to change the wrapper so that FCP understands the file.

I guess the biggest issue is that if my TC does not match what is on tape then I can't imagine trying to get the footage re-captured from tape if the file gets corrupted or deleted. I already know the answer to that - "be sure to always back up your data". Yes, but for us the video tape is the backup. File gets deleted? No problem. Right click, batch capture, insert tape, wait the capture time, done. If I don't have matching TC then I would need to backup all of our footage daily, which is out of the question due to the amount of footage we have and the cost associated with that.
I know how to assign new TC to a clip, but without a painstaking process of manually looking for a good sync point on the clip and the tape to find what TC I need to manually put in I don't know a better/faster way.
Capturing in FCP of course is not a problem. TC remains what it should be, all is well there.
I have not looked into Live Capture Plus, but I really need something for PCs due to cost of Mac hardware.

  • How do I batch convert separate avi files in Premiere Elements 11 to separate mp4 files

How do I batch convert separate avi files to separate mp4 files

For batch conversions, I use DigitalMedia Converter by Deskshare. My version is an older one (2.7), and there is a newer version, in two flavors, "regular" and "pro." I do not recall what limit on number of files is, but have had about 10 in the conversion queue. The newer version, and especially the Pro version, has probably expanded the number of files in the queue, but I could not quickly find what that max number is. While not opensource freeware, my copy was only about US$40. I was so impressed, that I bought two licenses - one for each of my editing computers. I have been meaning to upgrade to the new Pro version, but as old 2.7 works for what I need to do, just have not gotten around to it.
Now, Premiere Pro can do batch conversions too, through the AME (Adobe Media Encoder), but that would be a much, much more expensive solution.
I am certain that there are other conversion programs (some might also be free), that can do batch conversions, and with the H.264 CODEC for your MP4 output.
One caveat: if your AVI files are SD (Standard Def), you will NOT be pleased if you convert to MP4 in HD (High Def), as there will be up-rezzing, and the results will not be pretty. If you need to up-rez to HD, when using SD material, you might want to look into something like Red Giant's Magic Bullet Instant HD. Many users have been impressed by its up-rezzing capabilities, though some have not.
Also, I think that Corel's video editor has an up-rezzing capability, but have never used it, so cannot comment directly - might be great, or not so great.
    Good luck,

  • Encode Video Files not working for avi files

    Hi,
I've been trying to convert some .avi files to apple format using Lion's native 'Encode video files' function however keep getting a 'avconvert: source file not found for source file://fileparthhere avconvert: failed to create an export session. Check setup
I can't work out why as this has worked before in Lion and works fine for other video formats. The only thing I've done is remove Final Cut Express HD and can't add it again as I don't own it anymore
Suggestions? Is there a encoder to make this work or should it work anyway?
    Thanks

If you click Yes the project file will be updated when you save it. That has nothing to do with the media.
Are the Lesson and Media folders still in the Book Files folder (or whatever it's called)?
Select one of the clips in the browser and use Edit>Item Properties. One of the first lines is Source. That gives you the file path for where your media is supposed to be located. What does it say? If nothing is there, use the File>Reconnect function and point the application to where the media is located.

  • Install codec for avi Premeire Elements 12

How does one install a codec for .avi in Premiere Elements 12 ? or do what ever is needed to allow .avi files created with a Canon G9 camera to be edited.

    Bondz2
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Can we assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit?
From what I have read, your camera is recording with video compression = MotionJPEG. This video compression can be a problem
for Premiere Elements. It is a toss up whether the issue involves the MotionJPEG codec not being available to Premiere Elements versus
    the MotionJPEG being absent.
    The classical remedies include...
    a. Look for a utility that camera with the camera so that you can install the utility and get the MotionJPEG codec
    or
    b. Download and install the Morgan MotionJPEG codec as the tryout. If it works, then consider if it is worth the investment.
    Morgan Multimedia - Product - M-JPEG Codec
This codec might be available from other sources. Not sure.
    c. Convert the MotionJPEG to another format which is compatible with Premiere Elements and import that into the project.
Example: MotionJPEG.avi to DV.AVI with MPEGStreamclip.

All details can be customized and fine tuned depending on the follow up information that you post.

  • Converting HDTV .avi to mp4

I've been using VisualHub to convert HDTV .avi files for my ATV. The video converts, but I lose the 5.1 audio and only get stereo. I think this is a limitation of VisualHub.
Is there another converter that will retain the surround audio?
    Thanks in advance.

the last version of visualhub supports 5.1 (there is even a seperate appletv preset for 5.1)

  • Converting to AVI

I'm having trouble converting a 3 minute program to an AVI. I'm using quicktime conversion from the drop down menu, AVI, best settings/millions of colors, 48 khz, stero sound. the program converts for about 2 minutes, but when i play it back it onlys actually has converted an AVI movie that's 3 seconds long. this has been unsuccessful on two computers. any suggestions?

make sure you have not marked an in and out point on your sequence ... when you export it will only export the entire timeline if no in and out are set

  • Best Video Converter (for Mac) For Use With CS5

I need a good converter for a Mac Pro so that I can easily bring in AVI i
    nto CS5.
    Thanks.

What sort of "AVI" are you talking about? An AVI is just a container/box/dufflebag for all sorts of stuff; Macs and QuickTime will handle a number of codecs stored in an AVI container, but not everything. So ultimately, a Mac converter might not do you any good if there isn't a decoder available for the Mac. For example, Lagarith and Ut are two popular lossless codecs that write to AVIs, but there are no decoders for Mac, so the AVIs are unusable there.
Another thing to consider is that, in all likelihood, if a converter can open up the AVI on the Mac, then Premiere will be able to import it without any other necessary changes. Get MediaInfo to analyze the file and discover what is inside of it. Once you know that, we can make better recommendations about how to treat the file.

  • Adding subtitles when converting for ATV

Is there a way to add a file with English subtitles when I convert a .avi file to mp4 for AppleTV?

I haven't tried this app myself, but it may be of use to you. It's called Muxo and there's an article (and a link to the free download) here.
