Converting 8mm tape - please read for detailed question

Hi everyone - A few months back the Apple forums helped me convert old tapes to iMovie using my Canon camcorder as a pass-through, converting the tapes from AV-DV. (These were tapes that fit into a VHS adapter, so I plugged my VCR into my camcorder, then into my iMac and used iMovie for the project).
I'm now faced with a similar project, only this time, the tapes are 8mm tapes. I went out and bought an 8mm player (not camcorder), a Sony EVO-511 NTSC. I've checked the machine by using regular cable wire and plugged it into my tv and it works great. However, when I plug the Sony machine into my camcorder (Canon) and use it as a pass-through, it's not recognizing it so iMovie has no 'import' button (it usually becomes 'available' once it recognizes something's plugged in).
Since the set up would seem identical for the VHS conversion as for the 8mm machine, any ideas on what I can do differently? I even purchased an adapter that has a cable male on one end and an rca female on the other, so I can plug the cable wire directly into my camcorder. Any help is GREATLY appreciated - even if it's to steer me to another forum.
Thank you!

I have a couple of thoughts. First, is there a tape in the camcorder that might prevent the pass-through?
Second, can you PUT a DV tape in the camcorder and record from the Sony 8mm to it? If so, you could copy all the 8mm tapes to miniDV tapes and then import those into iMovie. I did it this way for all my VHS tapes because I wanted to have them 'digitized' as originals to save.
I also export all my created iMovies back to my camcorder onto DV tapes and save those. You never know if DVDs will become lost, corrupted, broken, etc and I want to have double backups of my movies

  • Converting 8mm tape to DVD via FCP (AJA IoLA TBC??)

I am playing old home video 8mm tapes out of a Handycam S-Video out (audio from the a/v jack), into an AJA IoLA. I am having a problem with dropped frames, they are happening all over the place. And although I have it set to not abort on dropped frames, when I view the captured video, there are hideous audio spikes and the audio and video are completely out of sync by several seconds after these spikes occur. I've tried different tapes and had the same problem.
I have combed the discussions a bit and found that I need a Time Based Corrector. Does my AJA IoLA take care of TBC in some setting somewhere? Or do I need to purchase something else?

    FCP 4.5

I'm not completely sure that the AJA allows me to capture to some form of DV. It only gives me a list of specified presets, and it looks like all of them are uncompressed.
This is copied and pasted from my Audio/Video Settings Capture Presets Summary when "AJA Io LA: S-Video 10-bit NTSC US 48KHz" is selected:

  • How to create a loop for my problem? Please read for more detail.

    Hi guys,
I am doing my project and currently i faced one problem and that is more towards looping i guess. My project is about embedding and I had done all the embeding stuffs already but I am only able to embed my barcode into image at starting at coordinate 0,0.
What i want to know is how do i had to structure my loop so that i can embed my barcode even when i start at x=20 and y=30 for example?
currently i used nested for loop which is why i can only start at 0,0.
I wanted to make it something like this:
    for<lets make it x=20>
    for<lets make it y=30>
    <my code retrieve pixel at x=20 y=30>
<my code retrieve pixel of barcode at x=0 y=1>
    end
    end
    end
I wanted to have something like above where i can start at 20,30 but at that certain cooridnate i will starting retrieve barcode pixel at 0,0.

So just say what you don't know how to do, because what I showed is exactly what you need.
    So please answer the following:
1.) I have an image of my barcode and I don't know how to paint it onto another image.
    or is it
2.) I have a routine that draws a barcode at a fixed location and I don't know how to get it to draw anyplace I tell it.
    or
3.) I don't have anything yet, and I want someone to code this for me.
    or it is
4.) Les you don't have any idea what I want to do, so here is what I need (pay more attention):
but in any case (well except #3), you'll be better off if you can give us some code to look at and explain what you are specifically trying to do and where you are having problems.

  • D2445 Problem - Won't Align, Please help! Read for details..

    Hello all,
thanks ahead of time for any suggestions/help. We have a D2445 Printer here at our dealership that we use to print out pictures (our designated photo printer). It's worked great for the past few years, seeing use about once or twice a week.
We usually only use the standard 22/21 cartridges, but there was an ink sale at office depot and we sprung for the Tri-Color photo cartridge. The printer has printed about 70 images with the tri-color cartridge and it finally gave out. We went to replace it with a black 21 and now it will not align to save my life. And everything that prints out is WAYY OFF. The crazy thing is, it was working fine literally minutes before we replaced the tri-coor cartridge. I've tried re-aligning numerous times, doing all levels of cartidge cleaning, unhooking the printer from the computer, unhooking the power from the printer, restarting the computer, re-seating the cartridges, everything except re-installing the drivers (which I dont think would be the issue). I'm tempted to go purchase another tri-color cartridge and see if that works, but it was printing fine for years with the 22/21 setup! And I was literally printing out perfect photos with the tri-color cartridge up until it ran out of ink, with less than 10 minutes between printing the last good photo with the tri-color cartridge and installing the 21 and having all of these issues.
Has this printer finally met its match?
    Thanks,
    BR
If anyone can please point me in the right direction that would be excellent. Thanks!

    You have three choices:
1.Go to Apple or Firedog (in Circit City) and pay to retreive your data and restore your iPod
2.If the computer can read the iPod, get Aimersoft iPod Copy Manager and save your data to a folder then open Explorer or whatever you use in Mac to save other files
    3.Get a new iPod....
    I hope this helps! azureVinh.webs.com

  • Help! Trying to convert 8mm tapes to my Macbook with a Sony HiFi Stereo

I have a ton of old 8mm family video tapes that are very precious. I have wanted to convert them to my mac, then to DVD for a long time. So this is basically what I have: A stack of 8mm VHS tapes, and 8mm
VCR that plays them. This is what it says on the VCR: Sony HiFi Stereo EV-C25 NTSC
So, do I need to buy some sort of cable that plugs into the back?? It has a Line in and Line out (you know, the red, yellow, white cords) I would really really appreciate any help you can give. Thank you!

    that are very precious.
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I would not use a VCR to DVD recorder. You will have no way to improve the material. Menu designs and chapter creations are very limited. By using your Mac you will have total control of how the DVD looks and works.
Let me assume that these movies are important to you and that you want the best quality possible.
You need a device that will take audio and video and convert it to FireWire.
I tried many converters but found the Canopus ADVC300 to be the best.
With the Canopus ADVC300. Audio and Video go in, FireWire comes out. It also comes with a nice Macintosh application that works flawlessly with iMovie 06 and iDVD 09 (I have used it a few times with iMovie 09). The software that comes with the Canopus ADVC300 has some incredible filters that can improve the picture as well as the sound. I sometimes use it to reduce the background "hiss" found in some tapes. Well worth the price.
    http://www.canopus.com/products/ADVC300/index.php
For the best quality (and easiest workflow) I would do the following.
Connect your VCR to the Canopus ADVC300. Connect the Canopus ADVC300 to your Mac with a FireWire cable. Run "Picture Controller" (that's the program that comes with the Canopus ADVC300), then run iMovie 06. Why iMovie 06?
iMovie 09 uses single-field processing. This means every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage.
Your primary workflow is editing DV clips and making DVDs, iMovie '06 is better suited. Your movie will arrive at iDVD in DV format, which is an ideal match for making a DVD: same resolution, same pixels, same aspect ratio, and original quality. If you share your movie from iMovie 09, it gets re-rendered at 640x480 or less, and then iDVD upscales it back to 720x480. The end result is obviously not as good.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09 is a "lossless" combination.
You can get iMovie 06 in a number of ways. You cannot download it FROM APPLE any longer. You can also find iMovie 06 on the iLife 06 install disc. You can buy iLife 06 on Amazon or eBay.

  • Problems with audio... (read for detail)

Alright, so, I have a phone, I take video with said phone (It's got a 5.0MP camera, decent quality... but that's not the point), and upload it to the computer.
I have to use iPhoto, since iMovie doesn't recognize that I have a camera attached, fine, whatever.
So, now that the video is uploaded to the computer, I can play it in Quicktime or VLC, and it works fine. I can even import it into iMovie, and it plays perfectly.
Now, I'll throw together a movie in iMovie, using video from my cell, and other cameras. Then I'll export an XML for Final Cut Express, but here's where I encounter problems. When I try and view the cell-phone-shot-video, it won't play in the viewer, and when I render it in the timeline, the video works fine, but the audio is replaced with an annoying beeping... beep beep beep.... and I also get errors, such as "unknown error" ... yeah, great.
But the weird thing is, if I'm to import the video in question directly into FC, it works perfectly fine.
Does anyone have any idea? I figgure the best thing to do is reformat the video before I import it into iMovie, but I'm not sure what to do.... help please!

    R. Mitchell Fore wrote:
The beeping means that your audio needs to be rendered. FCE works with AIFF audio @48kHz or 32kHz.
Problem being, that, when I import a FCP XML from iMovie, I can't render the audio, or even play it back, I just get an unknown error, yet if I import the file directly into fc, it works fine. Why would that be?
Anyways, thanks for that program, I'll give it a whirl.
Oh, and while I'm here, I've got another problem between iMovie and FC. I've been reading the manual for FC, and it says you are able to open up imovie projects straight from fc by going File>Open... and selecting the project. But when I do, I get an error saying it's a wrong file type. I've looked into it, and the only two possible reasons why it wouldn't work are (1) iMovie needs to be version 2.0 or higher, or (2) to import an imovie project, the imovie application needs to be installed on the computer. And I meet both of those criteria. So... any ideas on this problem as well?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Help: Convert 8mm tape to dvd and edit with imovie

Please help. I would like to convert my 8 mm tapes to dvd and edit them using imovie. I have the original camcorder that captured the video and it still works. (The camcorder is a Fisher Camcorder-8 model FVC-801 circa 1987). It says digital on the camera so I think the videos may already be in some sort of digital. I also have a new macbook and it only has usb ports not firewire. To play the video on the tv the camera came with a RF Adaptor and all i do is plug the adaptor into the camera and the yellow, red, and white cords into the tv. I have done a bunch of research and it seems that I will need some sort of converter. Can someone please tell me what kind of convert, which brand I should buy, and how the process works (ie what gets plugged into what, etc) Thank You.

If you want to edit the footage, I'd recommend to NOT put them on DVD first. That will only compress the footage heavily ... then you'll have to uncompress to convert them into a format that iMovie works with natively.
Instead, capture the footage by playing through a qualified DV device (DV camcorder, VTR or converter) and capture directly into iMovie for editing.
Once you're done with the edit, that's when you'd export for DVD for final delivery.

  • How do I create an iBooks ePub? Please read for more info.

I would like to create an epub from a pages document for viewing on the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad. Here is my problem. I have made a whole book, and the whole thing has floating objects, and the epub format doesn't support floating objects, so how do I make an epub with floating objects (I need it in ePub, not PDF, because I want to submit it to the iBooks store, and also read it on my iPod Touch.)
Also, my other problem is that I have pages and pages made, but all of them are square like or longer horizontally, not vertically like the iPhone. How do I adjust all of the pages to fit perfect or well on the iPhone screen?
    Thanks for the help.

I appreciate the help. and I think I've figured it out with your help. To do what I want, here's how:
To resize page size, go to file menu and choose page setup, and choose your size there.
To convert to epub, I haven't done it yet, but you just need to export your pages document to a PDF, because Calibre doesn't support pages documents format, but it supports PDF, so import the PDF to Calibre, and convert it.
For resizing photos, heres the way I figured out, maybe there's a different, easier way, but you just go to "Insert" > "Shape" > and choose your shape, then choose floating object so you can move it around where you want, and resize it BEFORE to the size you want the picture to be, then find your image in finder, and drag it to the shape, and adjust the mask and zoom of the image in the box.
That's all I needed to do. Thank you!

  • PowerBook 15" 1.67GHz won't turn on (please read for info)

    Hello,
Today I tried to replace my Harddrive from 100GB to a 250GB,
I found a tutorial on ifixit.com and followed there instructions to take apart my powerbook, anyway while I was taking apart my computer I accidentally stripped the screw that holds the HD bracket in place so I was unable to replace the HD I put the computer back together with original HD in place and tried to boot up computer it booted but showed me a finder folder with a question mark what usally means that HD is not found and so I thought that I didn't properly connect the HD to motherboard so I reopened my powerbook and made sure that the connection was ok when I tried to boot up the computer after putting it together a second time it would not turn on, I washed my hands to make sure that there was no static eletricity, when I plug in the AC adapter it won't show light unless I move the adapter around abit then it shows orange light before I didnt even have to move the ac adapter it would turn on after I plug it in, I tried PMU and tried resetting PRAM and nothing any idea"s ?
    Thanks,
    Phil

Yes that could be a reason but that would not explain why my power adapter would not show any color at all when pluged into my computer
it only shows color when I adjust the adpter to touch the outer ring of socket on powerbook which usally means that battery is only charging and not powering on computer
I will let apple technition look at it but for the mean while can anyone else give some more ideas as to what the problem could be ?
    thanks,

  • Please reply for this question

Is it possible to have more than two classes in a single java source file?

The only one that can have
a "public" modifier in its class signature is the one
with the 'main' method in it.No, that's not true.
You can only have one top-level public class per file, and it must have the same name as the file. It does not have to have a main method. You can also have multiple public nested classes in the same file.

  • IPod will not turn on/passcode error. Please read for more info.

I am trying to fix my friend's iPod Touch 2G 8GB. It will not turn on but I have gotten it to slightly connect to iTunes. This message keeps appearing "iTunes could not connect to the iPod because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod before it can be used with iTunes." However, I cannot enter a passcode because the iPod does not come on.
I did get the iPod to show up in iTunes once and I restored the iPod, but after it finished restoring I could not get it to show up in iTunes and it still will not turn on. It just keeps giving me the passcode error over and over again.
The iPod also does not show up in My Computer, nor will it charge/turn on on my Logitech iPod dock or Playstation 3.
I was wondering what I should do to try and fix this issue and get the iPod back in working order. I'd appreciate any help possible!

Can't you bypass the passcode if the iPod is connected in recovery mode(DFU Mode)
Is it ok if the files on the iPod are lost?
Also, reinstalling the firmware isn't guaranteed to fix this problem, only, it is a good start.

    obj.f();
    I answered 001 as o/p
    But the o/p is 101
    How can this be possible.

First I have to say: whoever wrote this code need some extensive lessons in HUMAN FRIENDY CODE. Use useful variables name other than one letter.
    You have two methods:
    Method f
    And method g.
You have to global or public variables a and b.
    Now, in the main method you call the first method f () which assigns zeros to the public variables a and b. it also creates a new array c[] with one slot containing the number 0;
After that, you call the method g. and pass both b and c[]. Notice that you have over ridden the values of b and c[] because you redefined them again in the header of the method
public void g(int b, int[] c)So now both b and c[] are not initialized and contain basically nothing.
Inside the g() method, you assign the public variable a with 1, and the ENTERNAL variable b with 1 (note that b now is not the same after it has been redefined again in the header of the g() method).
    After this, you have printed the out put. a = 1, b = 0, c = 1.

  • Importing 8mm tapes,

I converted 8mm tapes using a digital8 camcorder but think the camcorder has issues, because I just picked up a 8mm camcorder and footage looks better, not noisy like on the d8, anyhow now I have a canon elura set up with pass through ready and an analog camcorder, I have 2 options, basic video cables for input to the mini dv or s-video, which should I use?

Please read my question carefully, this is, I think, a question for the experts. It's not the usual name change question.
When I setup my new MacBook Pro, something slipped by me and my computer was named First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro (using my real first and last name).
I changed the computer name in Preferences/Sharing to a new name and Preferences/Accounts to just be Mike. I can right click on my account name, choose advanced, and see that everything looks right.
However, If I do a scan of my network with my iPhone using the free version of IP Scanner, it lists my computer as First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro! And it lists the user as First-Last.
So even though another Mac just sees my new computer name, and my home folder is Mike, somewhere in the system the original setup with my full name is still stored. And it's available on a network scan. So my full name might show up at a coffee shop.
Can I fully change the name without doing a complete re-install of Lion and all my apps?

One thought... you said the iPhone displayed your computer's old name? I think that you must have used the iPhone with this computer before you changed the name. So no one else's iPhone should display your full name unless that iPhone had previously connected to your Mac. For example, I did this exact same change, and I use the Keynote Remote app to connect with my MacBook Pro. It would no longer link with my MacBook Pro under the old name, and I found that I had to unlink and then create a new link under the new name. So the answer to your question is, there is nothing you need to do on the Mac, but rather the phone, and no other phone will display your full name.
