Converting a 2 page-up InDesign to a 1-up pdf file

We have created an InDesign file for a printing a folded booklet (that is 5.5 x 8.5). We did not use the "booklet" feature, but merely set up a page in 2 columns with booklet page 24 on the left and page 1 on the right column. (The next page is 2 and 23, 3 and 22, ...)
We would like to create a pdf that displays a single page starting at page 1, followed by page 2, etc.
Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks.
Barb M

Best option: Rebuild to the proper size.
Quick and messy option: Export to PDF and use Acrobat Pro to crop only the left half of each page, then Save As. Repeat cropping off only the right half. Still in Acrobat, combine the two files. Finish by running PDF Optimizer or using File > Reduce File Size.

    Hi Linda,
I just tried it, and was able to convert a Word .doc to to PDF, in spite of the fact that it was marked Read Only. Here are the instructions for uploading and converting to PDF with Acrobat.com:

  • Hello, is there a way to export or save layers from Indesign to separate png or pdf -files?

Hello, is there a way to export or save layers from Indesign to separate png or pdf -files? I have a Indesign document with serveral layers and I need them as separate png files.
I know that is is possible with Illustrator but can't find it for Indesign.
    Thanks a lot.

The script Peter's noting is in #122 here:
how to export indesign layers to photoshop layers (same structure)
It is OSX only and exports PDFs for creating Photoshop layers. The exported PDFs get trashed so if you can use AppleScript I can edit out the Photoshop part post a version that only saves the PDFs

  • How can I convert 75 Illustrator pages into InDesign?

I'm working on a rulebook for a boardgame.  Each page has vector art and text blocks intermixed to explain the rule mechanics.  It now exists as 75 individual Illustrator files that need to be combined into a single PDF document.
Obstacle 1:  Illustrator doesn't have enough space for 75 artboards
Obstacle 2:  Using copy-paste to put each into InDesign doesn't work:  Each line of text becomes an individual text block (and therefore uneditable).
Obstacle 3:  Using the Place function loads each page as a uneditable picture.  I'd have to open each individual page in Illustrator to make a change.
Background:  The rulebook was created in a ten-year-old version of Macromedia Freehand, which will not work on my new iMac.  Converting it to illustrator resulted in 75 individual .ai files
Is there a way to allow more space in Illustrator to hold more artboards?  Can two exported .pdf files be merged together (so the rulebook could be done with two or more .ai files)?  Or do I have to start all over in InDesign?
Is it just me, or are InDesign and Illustrator two halves of a single program, but don't work together?  There has to be a way for the latest in two Adobe software titles to accomplish what Freehand could do ten years ago with just one program.

Illustrator and InDesign have completely different file formats because they were developed independently by different teams and for different users. Their way of handling text is also completely different. That's why they don't exchange data as well as you would like.
You could only copy small vector objects from Illustrator to InDesign, and it wouldn't retain their position so that wouldn't be practical. Formatted text can not be copied between the applications.
I would use the Place command. When you need to edit a page use the Edit Original command. You can Option/Alt-double-click on the placed AI file and it will open in Illustrator for you to make your changes. Save the changes and they will be automatically updated in InDesign.
Otherwise, you will have to recreate the entire project from scratch in InDesign.

  • Blackened page and dialog error after opening a PDF file

    Hello,
I have an Acrobat Pro. 8.1 that I had installed in to Win. Vista. After reformatting my system and installing Win. 7 ultimate, I installed it again.  I also have Adobe Reader 9.0 on this system.
Problem is when I click and open a PDF file, it opens it in completely Black page and after a few second Black page goes away and following dialog is display and when I click on Close program on this dialog page the application does not give solution and goes completely away.
Adobe Acrobat 8.1 has stopped working
A problem caused that program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
With a Close program below it.
I can not scan with it either where as I could all the above in Win Vista. What could be wrong?
When I generate System Report if generates the following:

There were documents available in the knowledgeable that I no longer have the urls for. I have had communication with Adobe Acrobat support personnel that have made the same statements. I do not have the habit  of asking official Adobe tech support people to prove their statements by providing documentation. I have also seen Adobe employees give presentations on computers that have had both installed. When they were asked about the incompatibility, they did say the equivalent of phooey. However, enough people on this forum have had their problems disappear when they have removed one of the two programs that I feel comfortable giving that advice. Yes some people have no problems running both until one of the programs or a system component gets updated and then things stop working. My advice is not to have both on the same computer. When two programs share system calls and can fight over who gets to handle the call it makes sense that it can cause a problem. It doesn't make a difference if it is Reader and Acrobat or any two other programs you run. If you are not having a problem with running both GREAT. However, if you are running both and have a problem, it is a simple step to eliminate one and see if the problem disappears.

    Hi again Raja!
I did as you recommended and installed HTTPWatch and below is the outcome of that program. It is the exact string with the only exception of obfuscated servernames and portnumbers. The last part that begins with "sap_ep_baseurl=" makes me suspicious, is that part really correct? It looks like it's lacking things.

  • How can I Append the same (altered) web page to the same Acrobat 9 Pro PDF file more than once

The Acrobat 9 Pro utility in IE 8 of the Windows 7 Pro OS has a selection to "Append to Existing PDF," however it only allows appending the same web page one time only.  if the majoriety of the page data content is changed by selecting list item at the top of the page, I need to (re-)add the page with new content to the same (selected) PDF file, however the utilitiy does not allow this due to its maintaining a special index of each page base on the page URL or name.  Can the this index or the page itself be changed whenever the page is altered to make Acrobat think it is a new page?

I don't use IE, but I would suspect you can clear the cache or such to reset this option. You could also just open the web site directly in Acrobat and play the game there.

  • Troubles saving a booklet from indesign 5.5 to a pdf file format

Don't know what im doing wrong here but i can not
seem to get my book to save to a PDF FILE can anybody help fast. this needs to be sent to the print shop asap
so i can make my deadline for my collage paper !

You can also use File>Export and export to a PDF from InDesign but as Claudio mentioned, you would want to find out what settings the printer wants. Typically the Print preset in InDesign is god enough.
Or you could use the Package feature in InDesign to package all of the needed files up and send all of that to the printer (assuming they have InDesign.)

  • How can i see, on which page my client commented in a shared PDF file via CC?

    Hello,
i want to use the share function of CC to share a multipage PDF document with my client. Everytime he comments this PDF, the comments are not shown on the single pages, they are shown in a summary for the whole file. It is really hard to find the specific page for a single comment. Is there another way?
    Thanks in advance,
    Daniel

I don't know if you solved this issue yet. But we have the same issue in the pass, and clean the log files under "\Synchronizer\resources\" folder seems to be a solution. Here is the thread talking about it.

    Hi Pat.
Yes, both of them lead to the very same error.
I have a workaround, kind of, where I preview the document and select all the pages that are correct (read showing on the pages preview) as included in the 1st screenshot.
As you can see in the first screenshot, the 5th page seems to be non-existandt, however as I try to preview it from the 3rdP software, it comes up just fine and from there I can print it individually... just annoying when you have 50 pages and 6 of then are randomly not showing up.
If I try to print the whole document, it simply gives me the 2nd, 3rd and 4th screenshots.
As for the 3rdP software, as stated in prior posts, it has been working flawlesly for the last 5 years, and has not been updated in any way, shape of form... As you said, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to look into that, however I don't believe the contract for the software maintenance is still in effect...
    Thanks.

  • Is there a setting to automatically close the "please wait while we generate your document" page that pops up when downloading a pdf file?

I am constantly downloading pdf's and excel files from our company software which uses a web browser to access it. When I download a file, firefox generates a full screen pop up window that states "please wait while we generate your document." My problem with it is the fact that pop up window does not close after the download. I have to manually close the window. Is there a way to set that pop up window to close automatically after the file has finished downloading and is open in foxit reader or excel or word or whatever?
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Hi,
You could try is to '''Disable''' the Foxit, Adobe and Office '''Plugins''' in '''Tools '''('''Alt '''+ '''T''') > '''Add-ons''' and use the normal Firefox Open with (when you click on a link) to browse/open it in the required application.

  • Convert PS to PDF file in Adobe Distiller using javascript

    Hi scripters,
I have created some PS files from Indesign using javascript. Files are d:\test\1.ps,2.ps
Now I want to convert this ps files into pdf files uisng javascript?(I am not comfort to use export as PDF option for this job)
    how I can do this?
    Thanks in advance
    regards
    a r u l

    Hi arul
Firstable, you may not need to create PS files as Indesign is able to produce PDF files natively. I was told that it was more reliable to do so using a certification profile such as PDFX.
You will find a lot of PDF export script everywhere.
However, if you want to go that way (PS to PDF). I did that once.
First you determine into distiller a hotfolder where you ps files wille be generated. Then in the hotfolder options, you precise the profile you want to use. Otherwise, distiller may be using low quality PDF as default and your PDF may not be as good as you want.
var distiller = File("c:/xxx/yyy/zzz/distiller.exe"); //the path to your distiller app.
    distiller.execute();
    Here you are !

  • Pages 5.0, hyperlinks, PDF file, links don't work

I upgraded to pages 5.0. My documents have many hyperlinks. When I convert them to PDF files the hyperlinks don't work in the pdf files. In pages: file > export > pdf > best image quality then to desktop. The links work on page 1 of the pdf file but not on the remainder of the pages. With the previous version of pages all the hyperlinks worked in the pdf files I created. Something I need to be doing with the new pages 5.0? Help. The links are a key component of my documents.
    Thanks in advance.

    Found a fix!
    1. In the new version of Pages, export your document to a Word doc. Save.
    2. Right-click on that Word doc in the Finder, Choose Open With > Pages (4.1) [Or just open Pages 4.1 yourself, then use File > Open and choose that new Word doc]
    3. The old version of Pages opens your doc. Choose File > Export... Choose PDF. File will save where you choose, links active and working just like old times.
This is my first discussions post and hope it's useful!
Why would you want to export to Word .doc?
Just use Pages '09 4.3 in the first place and avoid the problem.
