Converting a document so I can edit it

I scanned a document and I am trying to export it into open office but I am only getting numeric fonts and not the document that I want to edit

To get useful results for editing in OFFICE, you have to first OCR the document. That may have been done at the time you scanned the document, maybe not. The format of the OCR that you use and the manner in which you "export" the data to OO also may make a difference. So, you have left a lot of information out of your 1 sentence for use to help you effectively. So things that are needed: AA version (and sub version is useful), the method of OCR (if done), the export process, and any other relevant info. We are not sitting at your computer watching your keystrokes, so you have to tell us what would see. That way we might have been there too, or might try to replicate your process.

This sounds more like Word than Indesign. I've never been able to resize
a column in Word without messing up the column next to it. There's
probably a way to make Word columns behave properly; I just don't know
    Word that well.
In Indesign, to make table columns act the way you're describing, you
must be either dragging the column wider from the left side; or (2)
holding down the shift key while you drag. Otherwise, making a column
wider just makes the table wider.
Try dragging from the right side without the shift key. You can also
select part or all of the column, go into the Table palette, and set the
column width exactly, by numbers (which is what I usually do, because I
like to make sure that my table adds up to exactly or less than the
    width of the text column).
Sometimes I need to make my tables wider than the page, temporarily,
just so I can see everything in them and decide where I can lose enough
space to fit the whole thing on the page. Remember that you can reduce
    cell insets, as well.

  • I want to use adobe to convert aPDF file into a word document that I can edit. How??

I select a PDF file and then use adobe to open it .It then asks me do I want to "save" the file.I save it and when I open it there is nothing there? There is no option to immediately open it in word!
    How does this thing work?

    Good day,
After you've saved the converted file to your hard drive, you'll want to navigate to where it's been saved and then open it in Word.
Alternatively, you could convert your files using ExportPDF's web interface.  To do this, simply visit http://exportpdf.acrobat.com and click 'Sign in' at the top right corner.  Enter your Adobe ID (email address) credentials to log into the service. After you're logged in, you should see the ExportPDF interface, with a button saying 'Select PDF file..' to get the process started.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
    Kind regards,
    David

  • How do I convert a document so others can read it

Hi I have sent a couple of documents to others one of which has pictures and text and the other just text, and they have said they can't open it and can i send it in a jpeg format but will that work. Please Advise as to the best way to send out so all can read.
    Regards
    Beric

It would be helpful if you mentioned what kind of documents, what software you created them with, what the recipients are trying to open them with and on which platform. JPG files should be readable on any OS but if you're dealing with more than one page, getting the documents to work would be better.

  • Convert DVD to something i can edit in iMovie

I'm very new to this, so please bear with me. I am trying to import video footage of myself from a public access cable TV show into iMovie. It appears that the footage is in a .DAT file, because that's the only file of any real size on the disk. It says it is HPIP video. (There are other files in .USR, .BUP, .IFO and .VOB, but they are all under 64k.)
First, what types of formats does iMovie support? Second, how do I convert? Do i need to buy extra software? If so, what is it, where do i find it and how much should it cost?
    Thanks!

First, what types of formats does iMovie support?
I have successfully used DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, and H.264 files with appropriately compatible audio compression formats.
    Second, how do I convert?
This would depend on the source file compression format. The presence of the .BUO, .IFO, .VOB files make is sound like a standard DVD ("muxed" MPEG-2 video with either PCM or AC3 audio) but the presence of the .DAT file (which you indicate appears to contain the actual data) makes it sound more like a VCD or possibly an SVCD based media. Having no experience with such, I might try to open it in VLC and see it it would play, load, or offer any additional info. It may be that all is needed is to change the .DAT extension to .MPEG (i.e., on a copy of the original file) to open it in an application like iSquint (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), or MPEG Streamclip (free but requires $30 MPEG-2 Playback component), or similar application -- assuming the .DAT file is not too large for the application you are attempting to use. These are only guesses and would be things I might try if I were confronted with this problem.
Do i need to buy extra software?
Possibly, but I would not spend any money until I knew more about the files in question.
If so, what is it, where do i find it and how much should it cost?
Hate to be so "less than helpful" here, but until you know what you need to convert the files it would be impossible to say what it would cost. And, in most cases, there may be more than one solution and each with its own price tag.

I need to convert PDF file to Word Document, so it can be edited. But the recognizing text options do not have the language that I need. How I can convert the file in the desired of me language?

The application Acrobat provides no language translation capability.
If you localize the language for OS, MS Office applications, Acrobat, etc to the desired language try again.
Alternative: transfer a copy of content into a web based translation service (Bing or Google provides a free service).
Transfer the output into a word processing program that is localized to the appropriate language.
    Do cleanup.
    Be well...

Odonnells52 you will still need to install Adobe Acrobat Professional prior to being able to make edits to PDF or utilize Acrobat.   By default the installation files have been saved to your download folder.
If you continue to face difficulties with the Adobe Download Assistant then please see Troubleshoot Adobe Download Assistant.
You can also download the installation files directly from Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X if you are unable to locate the downloaded installation files.

When I convert a PDF to a Word doc, it "converts" as a picture and I cannot edit the document. What can I do to get the PDF to convert properly?

    Hi conversionnewbie,
Are you able to select the text in Word by triple-clicking inside the text box? (Sometimes text selections can be tricky in converted files.) If you can't select the text, then I'm guessing that the PDF was created from a scanned file (so the text becomes images). Make sure that OCR is enabled when you convert the file to Word. OCR is enabled by default in the ExportPDF web interface, but can be disabled in Adobe Reader. If you're converting to Word from within Adobe Reader, make sure that OCR is enabled and that the correct language is selected:
Please let us know that works for you!
    Best,

WHY WHEN I EXPORT A DOCUMENT TO WORD CAN´T EDIT?

    Hi Tami,
I'm so sorry for your frustration! I'd like to assist.
Is there a chance your PDF was originally a scanned file? As these can be tough because the converter doesn't have anything solid to grip onto.
Let me know and we can try and troubleshoot together!
    Kind regards, Stacy
