Converting a FCP sequence to Windows Media File - please help!

Hi fellow mac users, please help if you can would mean the world to me! I'm trying to export an edited sequence (32mins in length) from FCP 5 using Quicktime conversion to a Windows Media File. Although I'm able to launch the process successfully, it just seems to convert the very first minute or two and not the entire thing! I'm not well versed in these technical issues, so have no clue how to figure this out. I've even tried in vain to compress the sequence first, import into FCP and then try to export as WM but no luck. My boss is away and client is pushing and I'm stressing!
So if you can help, that would be fantastic!
many thanks in advance.

Cleaner and Sorenson are huge and complex transcoders. You just need time and a credit card to download and then lots of time to experiment and figure out the quirks of each application. You do not have this time. Telestream offers a competitor called Episode. it's cool.
Get the full version of telestream's flip4Mac (if it was installed properly you can do this with a click on the system prerf panel for flip4mac). You will need a credit card. Be prepared for a very long transcode to WMP, even on a big Macintosh. I don't think you have the time for any of this nonsense.

  • Problems with Ipod and Windows Media Player PLEASE HELP

Ok i am not sure if this is the correct forum or not but i am having a problem. I have a Windows computer (Yes a windows computer please dont everyone yell at me) and i have a new ipod 30 gig video. Ok well when i put itunes on it changes all my music on my computer gets changed to AAC format and i cannot play music in windows media player. Ok well that is not my big issue. I make videos for church using windows movie maker and i cannot import music because nothing windows can recognize Itunes format which is AAC. well is there anyway so i can use itunes and still use WIndows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker... Any info will be greatly appreciated. THANKS ALL

I believe Quicktime Pro (which is available for Windoze) is capable of opening any WMP files and then you just export it as iPod format. That is how I get video onto the iPod. The Music and Videos all can be placed onto your iPod through iTunes.
So, if you are creating videos in your program, and want them on your iPod, then that is how you can do it.
Videos on your iPod have nothing to do with the formatting of your music. But, as the earlier post stated, change your prefs in iTunes to import as MP3. But, your videos HAVE to be in MP4 or M4V format to work on the iPod.
    Good luck... and I'm a j3susfreak too

  • I have converted most of my windows media files to itunes. However I had to close it down about 3 quarters of the way through. It then processed the album art. How can I convert the files that it didn't finish doing the first time? thanks

    Hi there,
hope you can help me. I helped my sister convert her window media files to itunes and set up an account for her. Unfortunately her computer is really slow and it was really late and we had to turn it off. It processed some of the album art for the files that it had converted. However, some songs were not converted and because there was quite a few left, I don't really know which ones did not get converted as I selected  all of the folders. How do I find out which ones I have left to convert and put the rest of the songs onto itunes for her please? Or are they on the itunes still as they showed up initially on itunes in the list to be converted.
    Thank you!

You could convert them all again and then dedupe, or use a Windows search to reveal all the WMA files and then try to work out which still need to be converted. If you're lucky iTunes would have processed the imports in alphabetical path order so it would just be a matter of working out where it had got up to...

  • Can I convert a DRM Windows Media file to a mp3 file?

Our library offers a site that you can download DRM windows media files. I can't use them on an ipod, so I want to convert them to mp3 files so I can.

Probably not legally. You might want to check with your library to see what you can do with them, for example, can you burn them to an audio CD? The whole purpose of the DRM is to prevent you from converting or copying the files in ways the rights holder hasn't authorized. Discussions about how to circumvent DRM are not allowed according to the terms of use of these forums. Sorry.

If it is protected by Microsoft's DRM, then I'm afraid even a video conversion program won't do you much good.

  • Windows Media File error 2048

Anyone know how to convert a Windows Media file to run on Quicktime? I get a message that say's Error 2048 and that it's not a movie file.... Thanks.

Be aware that even if you get Apple's MPEG2 QuickTime Component, that if the file uses AC3 audio QuickTime Player will not be able to play the audio from that. Apple use the feeble excuse that this is because QuickTime does not support muxed video files (where the audio and video are mixed together). Normally QuickTime files keep the audio and video as separate streams in a single file.
I regard this as a feeble excuse because a) it should have been fixed years ago, after all other software does not have this problem even WMP copes with this, and b) even when using QuickTime and Apple's MPEG2 component the free third-party tool MPEGStreamClip (for Windows or Mac) can play AC3 audio in these files. I repeat this tool uses the same QuickTime and Apple's MPEG2 component and yet it can play AC3 audio when Apple's own QuickTime Player cannot.

  • How do I export into a windows media file ?

I've been working on a project that requires both a quicktime and a windows media ( and /or real player) file to be made, so as to post on a website. I've got the quicktime file made, but what do I choose for a windows media file? - what options should I choose in export to make this happen?
    I'm on FCP 5.1
    and am using quicktime 7
    thanks!

You need Flip4mac (the studio version ~$49US) to export windows media.
    It does a great job.

  • Quicktime.mov file to Windows media file?

Question what is the best settings to convert a Quicktime.mov file (40mb) done in HD 1080i wide formate to a windows media file so I can send in an email for review. I use FCE 3.5.1 apple G5 computer, I'm not sure of the settings in FCE for output to compres the file, I know it won't look very good it is just for a review of content
    Regards
    Merlote

The settings will depend in part on how small you need to get the file. And exactly what format you want to use. Are you talking Windows Media literally (wmv) or just something that will open on a windows machine (such as mp4)

  • Exporting to a Windows Media File- best quality????

I imported a 15 -slide powerpoint (converted to jpeg) and added music, and Premiere transitions
The Premiere movie is about 3 minutes long.
I then needed to save (and burn to disks) as a Windows Media File.  A program that all of my 35 business offices would have easy access to and could play the Business movie that I have created.
When I playback, the first "slide" looks great, the music sounds great... but when it makes it first trnasition to slide 2, the face on the picutre is fuzzy for about 2-3 seconds then becomes real clear..... going to slide 3, same thing.... slide 4.... same thing.
so I went to the Advanced settings.  I have no clue what setting to change to make this fuzzy to clear part not happen.
CAN ANYONE give me a suggestion???????
    I have Premiere Elements 4.
    My settings show:
    Preset- Cable Modem DSL
    Codec WM video 9
    Encoding Passes "two"
    Bitrate:0 Variable Unconstrained
    1282x960
    Frame Rate : 60
    Pixel Aspect Square 1.0
    Decode Complexity  auto
    Keyframe Internal   5 seconds
    Buffer default
    Avg Bitrate  255

If you're intending to stream that WMV over the internet to your other offices,  that 1280x960 frame size is pretty unrealistic.
WMVs are optimized for internet streaming at 320x240 pixels. At 16 times that size, your file would likely not flow smoothly even if you could successfully create a file that size.
If you use the Cable preset at its default setting, you'll do much better.
Other factors determining the quality of your output are:
What project settings you're using for your Premiere Elements project
What resolution your photos are in the slideshow (You want them to be as close to the actual size they'll be in the slideshow as possible -- with an ideal size of about 1000x750 pixels)
Finally, JPEG outputs from PowerPoint don't make the best source files for Premiere Elements slideshows.
