Converting a German dictionary to English: USA dictionary

A German-based office sent me an InDesign file (CS3) and the Spell check is showing words as misspelled even through they are not. It is using a German dictionary, German: 1996 Reform, and that is what is creating the conflict.
How do I convert the German dictionary or get rid of that dictionary and make it use my preference of the Enlish: USA dictionary which I've defined in my InDesign Preferences. It appears that even though I tell it to use the US dictionary, it won't let go of the German dictionary.

The dictionary preference has nothing to do withthe language assigned to the text. That's a character-level attribute. The preference item allows you to pick which dictionary vendor to use in those cases where more than one dictionary is installed.
To change th language you must selet all the text, then choose the correct language from the language drop-down in the Character Panel or Control Panel. You might want to leave any German words set to German...

No way with just the free Reader; and an almost impossible task in Acrobat. The only reasonable way to do what you want is to work on the original file (the one from which the PDF file was produced)..

English USA Dictionary problems

The word fulfillment is in the USA dictionary twice. Once as fulfillment and again as fulfilment.
Pretty odd if you ask me. It came up because both spellings of fulfillment were in one document and a proofreader wondered why fulfilment didn't come up in a spellcheck.
I added fulfilment to the Remove Words list and that took care of it.
Any way that Adobe can fix this, or give a reason why it's in the English USA dictionary with two different spellings?

I just found it odd, and I'm sure there are other words like fulfillment/fulfilment. Everything I looked up regarding fulfilment said that the single l version was UK spelling so I found it odd that it would be in the USA English.

I did activate the German keyboard, and I entered in the application "notes",in which I typed a german word with the german keyboard... But I can't get "define". It only appears to me when I select a word from an ebook, but when I ask for the definition of a German word there, it simply says "no definition found", as if the German dictionary didn't exist. I know that it exists... When I tried for the first time to get a definition for a German word, it appeared a writing which asked me if I wanted to download the German dictionary. I selected "yes", but I was connected to a 3g connection at the moment, so the ipad didn't download the dictionary, but another writing told me that the download would have continued when I was connected to a wi-fi. It didn't. And now I don't know how to continue the download. I've installed the French dictionary and the English one, but for the German one that's what happened. The application runs queries to fetch data from database in SQL server 2008, and for that I am using a Microsoft SQL Native Client 2008 R2 64 bit ( this is the only version that installs on either PC, even the one on which I developed my LV Application).

There is usually a link on such websites choose a language or go to an international version that allows to chose the language.

code does not need to be translated.
Data elment descriptions, documentation, text elements, etc. can be translated in the transaction se63.
Also you can translate almost each single object in the editor in the menue goto-translation.

We have an Icloud account each and my emails come through in English and My Wife's come throug in German.
Have looked in all the settings that I can think of ICloud Language, Macbookpro language settings. All set to english.

How to set German Indesign to English short cut set?

At work, I have the German version of the Creative Suite CS6, but on my private computer I am using the English version und I am used to the English keyboard short cuts, so I would like to set the short cut set of my German CS6 to English. How can I do this?
In the English version there is an option for German short cuts, but in the German version I can only find short cut sets for Pagemaker and Quarkexpress - no English.
Is it possible to get the English short cut set into my German version? Do I have to install any additional file? I'd like to do this for InDesign, and Photoshop as well.
(I don't want to change the language in general, I know that this is not possible)

In case you created a custom shortcut list and saved it, you can simply copy that file from the English installation and install to the German installation. Else save the current set to a custom one.
The file will then be in "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<your_version>\en_US\InDesign Shortcut Sets".
Then you can select.

I am looking for a "default Patterns.pat" file from a German version of CS4.
The file can be found in Photoshop CS4 installation directory under the folder "Required" to.
According to my information might be used to override the English version to turn Photoshop into German.

As John said, if it were that easy, everyone would do it. It can't be done. Just changing around a few files does not affect the core program. There's language specific code in other components, too. At worst you would only create a state where nothing matches up anymore and you get bombarded with warnings or PS doesn't start at all...
